I deleted an earlier comment asking about sting rays when you were in the water before Cayo Costa, lol! They’re very cool animals, but that barb is quite painful-helpful tip: if you ever get tagged, put the offended area in HOT water, the kind that you think you initially can’t stand, for 20 minutes to a half an hour, changing the water to keep it hot as necessary. I got tagged a couple of years ago, and paid for the doc-in-a-box to literally put my foot in a bucket of hot water. Monitor for infection, but otherwise, you should be good. Cheers, and thanks for the beach break each week!

That makes a lot of sense. I got stung by an urchin in Jamaica and holy cow that was painful. Keeping my foot in the hot tub definitely helped!

Steve Irwin was stung in the chest. Death from a stingray is rare, but you can develop a serious infection, so get medical attention if you are stung.
@SWF Beach Life Thank you for warning us about the stingray shuffle. IMHO, hotels on the beach, aren’t very good about warning guests about stingrays.

This is a beautiful video. I like seeing the underwater filming. I was stung by a stingray. The barbed stinger punctured though my leather tennis shoe and into the inner middle of my foot. I was in Mexico. It was extremely painful. I was treated at the local Red Cross. They injected me for the pain and a antibiotic. They bled it out a bit to clean it. A few days later back in the States I had a full blown infection that required cutting and drawing out some of the infection I was also given antibiotics. 🐌🐚🌻🐶🐕🥰

Wow, what a beautiful day at the beach and in and on the water!
Captain Jenni really did her best to give you and us a wonderful experience!
I really love manatees. They are such gentle giants. It's so sad to see that they can get horrible wounds due to boat propellers. I wish that people would be more careful. Not only for the manatees, but all the wildlife.
I'm sorry I didn't comment on the last two videos. Unfortunately, my health problems got worse. I now have cardiac issues as well. So, I was admitted to the hospital for it.

Our local hospital gets a lot of stingwray injurys every year. Everyone tells how extremely painful it is! The effects of the barb injury last a long time. It is one creature I am afraid of. Before descending the ladder on our boat, to get into the water, I always carry a handful of small shells that I toss out in the water, under the ladder area, to scare any wrays away, before I get in. Of course we also do the stingwray shuffle 😊

Hello Beach Angel and all you beach lovers out there!
Have you ever seen a green-eyed Indian, Angel? Mine are Kelly green because I want to hitch a ride, too!
We used to have a seaworthy craft when I was a kid, but Daddy sold it after the Great Boat Disaster. I'll share that some other time.
We used to hang out at Crystal River in the winter and there were so many manatees there! They still come up the spring run and into the spring's boil at Manatee Spring State Park, not too far from you. Of course, the park's personnel make everyone get out of the water when manatees are visiting.
You know, I'm sure, that you can look through a swim mask held just under the surface of the water to make the underwater world more visible.
So wonderful to be out on a boat on this beautiful early summer day! What a blessing it is to be able to catch a ride in return for free advertising!
That's so amazing to see the turtle tracks! Hope nobody bother the nest.
I only wish Steve Irwin had respected a stingray's boundaries. So sad that the world lost his enthusiasm and knowledge of the natural world! Very glad you're more cautious that than, dear Angel!
Life is good when you're shelling on a sunny day. I'm enjoying the sound of your voice, of course, but the sound of the waves lapping at the sand is lovely, too. So relaxing.
I love to see your fingertips, all raisined by the water.
Ah, Beach Time! My blood pressure just dropped fifteen points!
I'm glad you remembered about the doves! They make finding a broken sand dollar worthwhile.
We used to have pet gophers when I was a kid! The town of St. Andrews, now part of Panama City, used to have gopher races on the Marina when I was young. They'd have a Biggest Gopher Contest, too, which was a lot of fun.
Gophers dig big holes with lots of side rooms, most of which provide shelter for rats, possums, smaller gophers and rattlesnakes. These holes provide vital bolt holes in a wildfire, saving lots of little lives.
My Grandpa, ever the wild Indian, enjoyed a good pot of gopher stew when he could catch one.
    Wow, those sponges are amazing!
This is so wonderful, seeing you explore by snorkel! It takes me back to living on the Island as a girl, spending more of my days in the water than out! I'm so happy for you to have this amazing experience! Only a teeny weeny bit green-eyed! Thank you for taking us along!
What a wonderful way to spend an evening!
Much love from Tennessee! I'll have to post a video of hunting for salamanders in a mountain stream.
    Have a great week, everybody!

I had so much fun snorkeling! I am always cold (thanks for helping out with that! ❤️) so for me unless it's boiling hot out I am not comfortable but I had a GREAT time and it was a bit easier snorkeling in the bay where the pull of the tides isn't pushing me around. I didn't grow up on boats or anything, but I did grow up near a lake so I can swim, and ice skate with the best of them. There are these buckets with a clear bottom you can use to "peek" under the water and see what is in the surf, but I am not too keen on carrying a bucket around. I like my shoulder shell bag just fine!
Sounds like gophers "help" their buddies like the gopher tortoises do. There are a lot of symbiotic relationships that these creatures get into!

Anyway, sharks also love to eat rays. As you have rays close to the shoreline, the sharks will follow them in. Be careful in that water!

Came back with my parents in a truck with a canopy on it. I collected 4 big Rubbermaid containers of shells and rocks. I never knew what most of the shells were until I found you on U Tube. 1. I have a question that isn't exactly about this video, but...is there somewhere to see a listing of all your videos in date order? When I look on RUclips, they're not in order at all.
    2. I don't get notified in any way when you've posted a new one...am I missing something?
    3. I recently came home from beachcombing on several beaches in Normandy, France. Had to buy another suitcase for the 27 pounds of shells I brought home!!

      1. Go to my channel and look for Playlists. There is one called "Shelling" that has all my videos in order. If you go to "View full playlist" you see all of them, starting from 3 years ago. The older ones are TERRIBLE, but I leave them up anyway. I've learned a lot since I started!
      2. Bummer on the notifications! If you are on my main channel page (ruclips.net/user/swfbeachlife) and hit the subscribe button, look for the little bell symbol - that is the notifications and if you turn them all on, you should be notified when I upload.
      3. I am so jealous! Collecting seashells in France? AMAZING! I would have gone for the second suitcase too!

#3. Not all of the shells are pristine by any means, but there were so MANY!! Lots of prickly cockles, lots of large scallop shells 4.5-5" (flats, not as many of the curved ones), lots of moon snails, calico scallops and calico clams. Lots of smaller things, but my most exciting finds were A. the shell of a heart urchin (1.5"). I'd never ever even heard of them before. It was such a fun time!! (I've read that heart urchins are on Florida beaches...have you ever found one?) And B. a teeny (under 1/2") brittle star. I' never heard of or seen one of those either. And they both made it home!!
