In Europe the figures are way more expensive. What I do now is buying four Neca figs instead of a ML wave. I have way less figs but the quality is superior.
The only cheap stuff I acquired recently is the four turtles from the latest movie. Half the price of a marvel legends but not that far in terms of quality.
Another example is the recent chun li by Jada. That fig is 37€ here. The ML Toad was 39,99€, the venom 3-pack is 111€... And unfortunately we don't have those crazy price drops you get there for black Friday or similar

On Day 43, Sentinel had 15,000 orders and Galactus had 17,000. EoV had about 5,000 and Giant Man is barely hitting 7,000. The writing is on the wall! This is my take about this project. Many collectors got disappointed when they've try to sucked it out on the engine of vengeance. now it is more of a collateral. But the worst part here is, they supposed to impressed collectors to win back the hearts to hasbro/ML but they didn't. I know they are confident enough when they release it thinking 200 dollars and the money alone is not a problem to majority of collectors but again they didn't make an effort on anything to impress the consumer. There strat here is really sucks imo.

The main problem is that Hasbro is too stupid, too lazy, and too arrogant to do basic market research and ask the fans what they want. They shit the bed with EoV and then blamed the fans, assumed "paywall" issues, and took at stab at Giant Man - another bad guess. Idiots run that company.

Based off what I see on the fandom sites it really seems a bulk of collectors wait for sales on these items, so maybe now hasbro will finally hear a message, with two failed haslabs.

This was also just a bad time to announce this haslab. Right now, we have the Marvel Knights wave, Void Wave, X-Men 97 wave, the upcoming NWH carded wave, two deluxe NWH figs, the recent D+ Wave, and that’s not even counting everything coming up with Black Series and GiJoe. They announced too much product too close to each other and now they want to throw in a $200 figure in the mix. There’s so much stuff on the market that this haslab barely has any room to breathe. I don’t think they realize there are a good number of collectors that don’t only collect Marvel Legends. Most collectors already have their Christmas preorders checked off and money is tighter this time of year. This campaign also just had terrible marketing. That wasp should’ve been revealed earlier and we could’ve gotten more pictures besides the same promo shot pics. If this fails, I think it’ll be a combination of bad timing, bad marketing, and brand fatigue. People are just tired of Hasbro. They could have offered it at $125 and it would have sold and Hasbro would have pocketed a cool $1 MILLION. And it was a waste of a Haslab. They should have made a 12" Giant Man because he's almost always shown at 12' high in the comics, rarely growing much larger. They could have done Eternity or The Watcher and added some non-essential figures and it would have funded by now.

It amazes me how Hasbro just doesn't want to innovate their products and keeps releasing stuff with the same issues as years ago.
Meanwhile smaller new companies make drastic changes, making their products better to please customers. Hell, not only small companies do so, for example Kaiyodo upgrades their engineering of Amazing Yamaguchi line. It's crazy to thing what they started with making their first figures such as Deadpool and Spiderman. Now look at their 2.0 versions, of course it took time but Hasbro prefers to just leave everything as it is, making crap, I'm still salty they made their first ML Ultron fully painted and the new one doesn't have any silver paint. What the hell?!
It seems like most of such big companies think they cannot fail and in todays economy they cannot make less profit than year before so they keep releasing inferior products or even making them even more inferior just to produce them as cheap as possible and earn even more money.

It's not like I'm not buying Hasbro products because I am... but my Marvel Legends purchases are now few and far between. I used to buy entire waves. Then it was comic only figures. Now it's select comic only figures... and now, I can count the number of Legends I buy a year on one hand and still have fingers left over. And I did back the Sentinel, I did back Galactus. I'd love to have a big Giant Man in my Avengers display... but from day one, I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on this one.
I'm buying plenty of GI Joe Classifieds. I bought the Haslab H.I.S.S. tank, I bought the Dragonfly... I think those are better products and that I'm getting my money's worth... and both of those cost more than Giant Man. I'm happy with my G.I. Joe Classifieds; and I am confident that I'll be happy with those Haslabs.
Likewise, I am happy with my Haslab Unicron, Victory Saber, and I am sure I'll be happy with my Haslab Deathsaurus (the latter two cost less than Giant Man and we've gotten a lot more).
Maybe it's the Disney tax. Maybe the Marvel Legends team needs some new blood, I don't know.

You phrased it perfectly to summarize my personal take on this Haslab and probably many many others' as well: "If it gets made, I want one, but I don't really want it."
Also, $200 may not be a lot in terms of collecting, but the economy is down and people are being more selective. Why spend $200 on this if you aren't absolutely in love with the concept/character/execution, if you can spend the same $200 on the upcoming massive sewer playset from Ramen Toy? Or even their KO version of Ghost Rider car?

  • @graefx
    @graefx 8 месяцев назад +4

I think its part value but also just a changing of the times. For me personally, getting something that big and spending $200 for a single figure just doesnt carry with it the same appeal it use to. Money is tighter, space is limited, and just my enthusiasm is waning. 5 years ago I probably wouldn't have batted an eye. It seems worth it but I dont feel the need. My collecting has sharply declined in the last 2ish years and Im a lot more picky. I think the Rancor really killed a lot of my excitement too. If I saw this for $200 at Target, maybe it would make me consider it, but having to wait to get it after spending the money isnt helping either.

This is Hasbro, the biggest action figure company on God's green Earth, and they can't even figure out a double ball peg whereas Jada Toys is in their, what, 2nd-3rd year making figures and they have no problem doing double ball joints. It's incompetence, apathy, or they're too busy chapping the asses of the shareholders looming overhead, maybe all of the above, but in any case, the consumer suffers, and it's about time we spoke out.

  • @Fuzzy_Barbarian

That neck really does look awful. I know it's a prototype, but people using that as a defence for all criticism truly do not understand how marketing works. Yes, it's a prototype... that they are using to *promote a product* that the prototype is meant to be at least somewhat representative of. If we're not meant to use the prototype to judge the Haslab, then it has literally no reason to exist.
I'm not backing this thing because of the price and awful tiers. It's too big, doesn't work with any display I have and just doesn't seem worth it for the price that I would have to pay (way more expensive for Australians). It's definitely a step in the right direction in terms of price and not locking unrelated things behind a big price tag, but the project itself just isn't that great.

Many comic fans are also Star Wars fans, and they just backed The Ghost from Rebels/Ahsoka. I also think launching right before the Holiday season is a mistake.
