    To be perfectly honest I don't have any skin in this game. i wasn't planning on buying this figure either way. My support for Hasbro has been trending downward for years now, and any character that isn't an absolute must for me is not even considered. Between the constant proportion issues, the lack of good accessories, and the pricing, I just do not have it in me to invest heavily into them anymore. I'm happy for anyone who still gets enjoyment from this upcoming figure, and any others for that matter even if I have no intentions of getting it.

    Well said.
    I had lots of comments coming at me saying I was hating on this figure and hoping it would fail. That was all really weird because I was clear from day one that I liked the figure, I thought the price was fair and that I backed it.
    At the same time I didn’t attack people with opposing views that thought it was a trash offering and that it shouldn’t fund.
    Even with the EoV, we gave our opinions on the offering but also said "if you like it and want it, then go buy it.” People were so mad that we "hated" on it, and then accused us of trashing people that backed it, which we never did.
    These Has-tard white knights are so weird man. I just don't get their mentality.
    Since this funded the "influencers" that worked overtime to get this funded for Hasbro have been going off on socials attacking people who didn't want it or didn't want it to fund. These same people claim to be all about positivity. Ironic.

I saw a lot of people say things like they weren’t backing it because they weren’t interested, or because they didn’t have room for it, or they thought the price was too high. Every time we buy a 6" figure for $25, we are giving Hasbro money.
    Do they cost $25 to make? No. Are they making a profit on those? Absolutely!
    Are they worth $25 to you? That's for us to decide.
    I don't get how we're supposed to send them a message by not backing haslabs, but still buy the regular figures on the line. If it's that serious, why not quit the line altogether and buy something else?
    We are living during the golden age of action figures, there are more options now than ever before. Rather than routinely complain about a line, doesn't it make sense to just walk away? It worked for me and Star Wars Black Series and I'm much happier for it.
    Anyway, just my 2 cents. Keep the videos coming, they're great!

      @AnthonysCustoms yes, but that's also subjective. The free market always makes a correction, and if enough people don't like the products, they will either adapt to improve or cancel the line.
      Clearly the community is not all on the same page and rather than have so much discourse, we should be more understanding that we don't all like the same things and appreciate the fact that we are still a community of adults that like toys.
      p.s. thanks for the reply, I'm a fan of your work, even if I don't always agree with your pov.

  • @juleswinnfield616
    @juleswinnfield616 9 месяцев назад +9

    The free market has spoken. The EoV didn't fund, without anyone needing to be influenced on that decision and GM funded, in spite of all the negativity.
    People's opinions on things like value and price, will always differ and in the end, the free market will decide if there is a future for Haslabs or if they will eventually go away.
    Don't want more Haslab projects? Don't buy them. It's that simple.

  • @duckhead431

    I think you could look at the HasLabs based on the performance relative to the intended goal. That car had an end goal of 12,000 and they got 5,000, so the price was too high. The G.I. Joe helicopter end goal was 19,000 and they got 25,000, so that was perceived as a good value, actually technically Hasbro probably should have charged more based on that support level. For Giant Man, the end goal was 14,000 and they got almost exactly 14,000, so it seems that the price point was almost exactly correct relative to the amount of support they expected. These "crowd-funded" projects show the exact amount of support right on the front page, so we get a very good idea about what people perceive as a fair value.

    • @AnthonysCustoms
      @AnthonysCustoms  9 месяцев назад +6

      Yeah. That's the problem. People believe this is a good value even though it's really the worst (of the backed haslabs). It could have been fine. 200 for a good 2ft figure isn't the problem. 200 for a lazy, barely painted, no accessory having blown up Marvel Legends base body is the problem.

    • @DesignIncase
      @DesignIncase 9 месяцев назад +2

      You can't really read it like that. You shouldn't assume that the people who backed Galactus have the same level of interest in Giantman or other characters. Want to do a Galactus variant or supporting characters(Like the Heralds), sure it works. Giant Man is a different product line.
      When it comes to manufacturing, you also may not even want that higher amount depending on the level of production needed. More products to make means more time in production at the factory to make all those orders which can push things back.
      All the backer around of the Galactus Haslab tells us is how many customers a Haslab has reached. Cross that with other Haslabs and I'd be curious how many unique buys there are(as multiples each count as a back). But the Marvel Brand is too diverse to say you have the same target users.

There are some figures that I purchased that you said weren't very good but I love them, and that's awesome, this means that we need to pay attention to what we buy so that companies don't sell us absolute trash. And they will, since it will give them more money and that's what they are after anyway.

      To me, I don't think people misinterpret him. At least in my country, every time he did review some figures, it actually affect the market price of those figure that he reviewed. Usually, the one that are garbage (well, exaggerating obviously, but for the price they kinda are) and mostly marvel legends, it's actually going downhill (either back to retail or a little below retail price, sometimes even way below retail) 😂. He is still hated by a lot of collectors in my country, but the fact that somehow his review affect the market price, says otherwise

      Are you from SE Asia? Because there are a lot of resellers of Marvel Legends there, and of course they'll be unhappy if the ML market crashes. But blaming Anthony for that is totally ridiculous, they should blame Hasbro lol.
      If their GI Joe Classified and Transformers lines give better bang for the buck than Marvel Legends, then maybe Hasbro should take a long hard look on their design/sales strategy for ML.

That may appear to be a harsh opening statement but conversation and critical thinking aren’t rewarded in this new world of clickbait and knee-jerk, emotionally evoked, responses based on cherry picked parts of points brokered by someone who is functionally competent. I would be more forgiving if I hadn’t spent the last 2-3 years observing this new trend with a sense of disbelief that I can only describe as reality shattering. This goes for everything nowadays from action figures all the way through to politics and ideological debate. Keep speaking your mind, I find you to be clear, fair and unbiased and that’s what I’m personally here to support. What you do in and for this community is both rare and critical, in my opinion.

    Hello Anthony,
    Good vid, one remark:
    The buyer does NOT set the price for luxury items, the selling brand does.
    The buyer accepts the premium price on luxury because buying premium fulfills self-esteem and social recognition needs beyond just enjoying the product.
    Maybe thats why some people get really touchy about all this.
    You are absolutely right about Hasbro implementing good ideas to only test the waters with the same idea giving less or charging more until it utterly fails. Cf Magic the Gathering - 30 years of those cycles… going through roughest crisis atm after the 30th anniversary party which was a disaster.
    I did not back it. Should have been a hasbro exclusive and maybe I would have been a little tempted after seeing good reviews.

      yes buyer makes the ultimate purchase decision. Agreed.
      So, buyer should have the upper-hand but good marketing and branding makes the buyer resistance weaker. I worked in Luxury hotels and we set the prices (yearly raises!), clients had to go with it. They of course allowed it as you say but we set the prices and they accept it or not.
      My role was to figure out how to maximize room inventory revenue.
      Hasbro could sell more copies at a lower price or less copies at a higher price. Its their job to figure that out and aim for the best target. Thats what marketing is.
      They tried selling us a luxury car with top, middle, bottom.
      Imagine if I had told my clients: “yes sir, your room has a floor a ceiling and walls”
      Lmao. “Oh btw, sir, the room has no electricity… yes, competition has a similar product for cheaper and more features.” Lol again. Of course, disaster.
      They took a safe bet with giant man - said it themselves (in awkward ways).
      You definitely have a better idea than me about the cost side of action figures and how much of a good deal is the 200$ giant man for hasbro.
      Cost aside, Would they have sold twice or more the quantity if priced at 120$? I dont think so but could be wrong.

In other words, Hasbro could’ve done the same thing with Giant Man, so it’s not even the same usual Hasbro BS, because they have proven that they can make these Haslabs regular releases and not have to scam people out of money to “be able to make it” when they are a multi billion dollar company and could’ve already made it/funded it themselves from the start.
