I’m super excited for James Gunn’s plans. Btw quick note, Gunn said Swamp Thing is “tonally” outside of the DCU. So it’s more horror tone compared to the rest of the projects.
I hope they practically BEG Gal Gadot and give her whatever she wants to continue to be Wonderwoman. She was one of the few good DC movies with excellent casting.
Never to be excited. This mixed reboot is a gigantic disappointment and won't sell anywhere near what they are expecting. I'm assuming Comcast will acquire WB in 2024 as scheduled
I'll be honest I think Gunn has killed DC for the next 4-5 years or however long it is until he gets fired... So, 1 through line, yet the new universe starts with a Batman and Superman film in the same year that are from entirely separate universes... 1 actor per character except 3 Bruce Waynes and at least 2 Jokers, probably 3 of them too. A reboot but keeping a bunch of stuff from the old DCEU and continuity. So just a change in direction like Aquaman and Josstice League were, and then like Black Adam was... Gunn, it appears doesn't have the balls to do what needed to be done. I have 0 faith that this will be anything other than another short-term term mess like the previous direction changes...
Wait until the movie comes out - not even cast yet, and lots of hard feelings over Cavill unceremonious departure while leaving in Creep no 1 Ezra Miller.
@@SuperOmnicronsj44 cavill was done after JL until the actor who plays the rock wanted to salvage black adam. He used cavil for his own gains by giving everyone false hopes. Also they are not confirming the ezra situation with the flash movie coming out. If they confirm that ezra is not coming back while the movie is still not out yet then there is no point in watching that film. Another blow to their pocket.
What James Gunn has done for comic books in the last week is insane I’ve seen so many people just starting reading them because of him. I hope he keeps up with the recommendations
I know, right! I’m six issues into Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow because of his movie announcement. If the movie is half as awesome as the comic series it will be my favorite comic book movie of the year.
@@danielwright3929 I’m two issues in right now but am also reading all star superman, I didn’t realise newer comics were so good and used to just read all the old ones until recently
@@Sheen04 All Star Superman came out in 2005. It’s not exactly new ( 20 plus years ago) DC comic had a great series about Superman and his son ( Supersons) they cancelled it and the writers aged Superboy up to 18 so they could have him date other boys. Superboy then berated his dad for not solving global warming until that series got cancelled. Comic books took a giant dip in quality around 2010 and by 2014/16 they become super woke/preachy/boring. There hasn’t been anything as good as All Star Superman.
@@brianmurphy250 em okay? Not sure what you’re getting at, I never claimed all star superman was new I just said I’m reading it. I also recently rewatched Superman (1978) that’s not me saying that movie is new just that I recently rewatched it. Do you wanna give me a history lesson on how that’s the best superman movie now?
If Nightwing appears in brave and the bold, Im going to lose my shit. This is going to be awesome I think the biggest thing he has said is that he is valuing, writing, creativity, character, you know all the things that make good damn movies, above everything else.
*You juss said it.. so no matter if it’s another garbage movie.. you’ll most likely love it cause ya boy in it.. that’s all it takes to get y’all goin smh*
I don’t think so because the Superman movie comes out first and I don’t see how they are the villains in that and then after that get their own movie as superhero’s
@@troybracy2915 To be fair, The Authority don’t really fit into the mold of traditional superhero’s. Their methods are brutal and they’ll do what is necessary to achieve their goals. They can be the villains of a Superman film while also getting their own film. The Punisher for example, was pretty much an antagonist for a bit of Daredevil s2. A brutal killer who believed Daredevils methods were flawed. Although, they sort of reach an understanding at the end of the season. Punisher still remains a brutal killer in his own series. The way I see it, The Authority will the antagonists of Superman: Legacy, and by the end of the film, they’ll either be defeated by Superman or they’ll team up with him against a greater threat. By the end of the film, they never truly change their brutal methods and go into their own movie still maintaining their status quo. I think their presence in a superman film is to challenge Superman’s world view and attempt to make him a murder just like The Elite tried to do. They’ll of course fail, and move into their own film where we’ll see the true brutality of their methods. Gunn has made a film about morally questionable characters before so it can work.
@@WarpingFist I definitely could see Superman and The Authority meeting and eventually colliding but I don’t think In the very first Superman movie because the problem that the authority would cause for Superman would have to be resolved by the end of the movie or else Superman would have to be in the authority movie for it all to make sense and I can’t see James Gunn putting Superman in the Authority movie because he could overshadow these new unknown characters. In a comic book or a cartoon I definitely can see the authority being the villains for Superman but in movies it’s still more of a business but either way I’m excited to see what these Authority characters are all about.
I really hope we get to see Jason Todd/Red Hood, not only does Red Hood definitely fit Gunn’s style, but I’m always interested to see a different creators take on his death and resurrection but also I’ll take my batfam crumbs where I can get them
I never liked the idea of having two on-screen Batmans, it just makes it complicated for kids and new viewers, but after hearing that the DCU Batman will be an older more established version, I realize that this may be the best decision for the character, because one version takes place in the past and follows him in his early years, while the other takes place in the future and follows him through his later years. It’s genius because even though they’re not in the same universe, we can always pretend they are which makes the character easier to follow.
*Crazy how we couldn’t get more T’Challa yet we still n always will get more, more n more of spiderman, batman n supes.. yet many complained as if we wouldn’t*
It's admirable how creators like James Gunn won't give up in telling great stores and entertainment. They won't let bad money and political arrogance discourage them.
We'll see... So far Gunn is doing Guardian for the 3rd time with Creature commandoes, following The SS and of Course Guardians. He recycled alien invasion Hive mind stories 3 times: Slither.. The SS and Peacemaker.
@@flyingmonke The last movie that got released when people were still high on DC was BvS , 90% of the DC movies after were trash and you actually don't see any DC fan outside of social media anymore which is sad , but Warner ruined this franchise, nobody else
I was initially hesitant but I honestly think this is a pretty sick slate! I think we should be willing to give Gunn a chance because he goes out of his way to give massive credit to the comics that inspired his stories, something not many creatives do. The way he and Safran describe Superman as "kindness in a world that thinks that kindness is old-fashioned" (THR) is so refreshing to hear. I just started reading Tom King’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” and man it gets me hyped for the movie! Supergirl is such an interesting character with a lot of depth, darkly humorous dialogue, optimism, and weight on her shoulders. "Booster Gold" is tailor-made for James Gunn, I think that'll be a fantastic fit! “Lanterns" is so exciting to hear because we've been sorely lacking in GL content, and Paradise Lost seems like something lots of people will get into as well. “The Brave and the Bold" can lead to SO many fun possibilities because it means that we're finally getting a DCU with THE BAT-FAMILY, something I've always wanted to see in live-action. We've had a few great "Swamp Thing" adaptations but I bet this'll be great too, and possibly lead to JL: Dark with Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman and co. down the line. Creature Commandos and The Authority are teams I know nothing about, but I didn't know anything about the Guardians of the Galaxy either and I think those are some of the best comic books movies ever made (part 2 especially), so I'm open to it. It's the "Waller" show that confuses me the most, because it's the thing that's the most overtly connected to the old "DCEU", making me question it canonicity in the new continuity. Overall though, this is a great slate (assuming they stick to it) and I can't wait to see these characters come to life!
It was initially, meh - but Gunn is attempting to introduce a few more titles as the trinity has been inconsistent in its portrayal. Lets see how it plays out. He has a lot of pressure on him as Marvel as already established its blockbuster level films years ago while DC struggled.
The way he and Safran describe Superman as "kindness in a world that thinks that kindness is old-fashioned" (THR) is so refreshing to hear. Isn't this what we just got with Man of Steel and the real world's even worse now. Didn't Clark argue about standing up for the little guy to Perry who shot him down cause that stuff doesn't sell Newspapers? All Gunn is doing is repackaging shit that was already in the works or done in other movies. But will people didn't care then so why would they care now? You just want the brand new thing.
@@Fenris30 except man of steel was not only poorly written and that bit was one small part of the story but also was disregarded later on as superman’s character was ruined while Gunn is using that type of thinking for his whole character as that is who super man is not just one part of him he represents kindness
I’m beyond excited to see what Gunn does with the DCU. In terms of comic book films he hasn’t got a single miss as of yet, actually some of the best CBMs we have seen in the last decade. With Marvel’s recent record & Gunn working at the DCU now, I think this is the time the DCU not only competes with Marvels MCU but overtakes them
I was really mixed on Gunn’s new slate. But I think it was the idea that all these movies and shows will truly be connected by one thematic and storytelling idea that sold me on it, rather than just a series of events leading into each other like the MCU.
I needed a video like this, thanks FilmSpeak. Tons of people are criticizing James Gunn's new DCU plan when nothing has even been released yet. We're obviously not going to be given all the answers right away, so now is a great time to speculate and create fan theories as to what's gonna happen.
I 100% agree with your view on how thematic messages should in addition to defining the DCEU stories themselves connecting up them up in a way that creates not just a box office smash, but a true passion project. James Gunn standing with that definitely shows he has potential to continue the theme of verisimilitude that defines the Superhero genre. Welcome to the Universe…
Super hero movies should be, at its core, a passion project. Because not only for entertainment, it also carries a sense of nostalgia, longing, and motivation. IMO, that is what separate a good super hero movies from the bad ones. The studio and sponsors might be doing it purely for business and profits, but when the director and people involved in the making are doing it for passion, it will shows through.
I really appreciate the positive take free of political and ideological biases. Maybe things will work, maybe they won't, but it feels nice to have this sort of "look at the bright side" breakdowns, so difficult to find something like this on YT nowadays
I'm optimistic but trying not to get too hyped. WB Discovery tends to scrap stuff without a proper end. But I'm most excited for Superman: Legacy even though I will miss Cavill.
the introduction of damien alone opens up the possibility of talia, ra’s, the league, a comic accurate lazarus pit, and even red hood. gunn is a genius
You are the first one who actually may have changed my mind. I just wanted to see the ending of the Snyder verse. I was tired of having reboots or talk about reboots. I wanted to see James Gunn in Zack Snyder’s world and see his spin on it. You’re the first RUclipsr to actually made me excited for whatever Gunn is coming out with. Thank you. I still hope they finish Zack Snyders verse in Elseworlds. But still excited about what’s coming out and I cannot come out any faster. Thank you again.
I've loved all the James Gunn Superhero movie that he worked on, especially The Suicide Squad being my most favorite Superhero movie next to Spiderman No Way Home. Whatever James Gunn does, I have a powerful feeling that it's gonna bang
Creature commandos was such a surprise to me. They aren’t Justice league but I loved them because of how creepy and awesome they are. So seeing them get the tv show they deserve made me smile.
Love the take on what "Legacy" could mean not just for superman but the villain as well - and how it could serve as a plot device to help Clark come to terms with that repressed loss. I had a feeling he would encounter a smaller threat, but I kinda want it to be Brainiac now.
So many possibilities are now open under James Gunn. The number of stories they can tell are numerous with this reset. A Darkseid level threat will not be rushed and characters will be explored.
Darkseid is a morally outdated and stereotypical villain who is of no interest to anyone and after Thanos is generally secondary. And I hope that DC will get rid of the "dark and violent version of Marvel" stereotype imposed on them by the trashy animated films of 2013-2020 and the failed New 52 reboot comics. PS: Henry Cavill is a wooden actor, Gal Gadot is an ugly anorexic, and Margot Robbie should star in porn.
Yeah, Gunn's the Darkseid level threat to the true to character understanding DC fans. Casual fans need rehashing over and over again just criticizing Snyder for something that should've been done a long time ago.
@@Largentina. I was thinking the exact same thing! And like the idea of it being set in World War Two so they are free to do whatever they want because it’s probably not going to tie in because it was so long ago.
Small correction, but there was never an actual confirmation that Aquaman 3 is happening yet. It's just that Jason Mamoa said that he always envisioned the Aquaman movies as a trilogy.
I am so excited for James Gunn and the DCU. Finally! A focus on stories, characterisation, heroism, and love of comics. This already looks better than anything Snyder spat out. Plus, the fact that Superman will finally get a proper adaptation is a wonderful thing 🤩
Booster gold has the potential to be absolutely hilarious, both as a character and a show, whilst striking a cunning contrast of complex emotional maturity. A lot like with Peacemaker, which turned out to be an absolute blast which significantly surprised everybody with the level of depth of writing that explored Peacemaker and his teammates. Booster could also pose as the deadpool of the DCU, going forward, to distract the audience from the main overarching narrative. Aahghhgh i just can't wait to see this all come together I'm so pumped
@@ryanr9299 Chris Pratt will not be in batman. And Gunn said it many times, there is gonna be many genre. It depends on the character. Swamp Thing will be horror, Supergirl will be violent SF, Paradise Lost will be a politic/game of thrones like TV show, Booster Gold will be comedy, Waller a dark show, Creatures Commandos more like the suicide Squad style... Many different styles and clearly not a humor dictatorship.
I think some people who criticize the slate have this closed idea about how things should work when it comes to superheroes, so everyone expected this MCU-like thing that would end up in a Justice League movie after several solo films of main superheroes, but here the plan seems to be even larger and more creative, which I can only compare to New Frontier or Kingdom Come.
"finding ways to assemble a story that paints a larger message and that deals in a thematic through line..." Sounds like EXACLT what Snyder was trying to do and I wish we were able to see that entire vision. But either way im excited for what's to come, just bummed that we are starting from scratch.
Look don’t get me wrong I WISH so badly we could’ve gotten a full Snyderverse developed, but I think given the circumstances, this is the next best thing. I’m just excited for the future of DC!
It's EXACTLY what he wanted to do. But I guess when Snyder does it, it's awful, and he'll come to your house and kick your dog... It's just favoritism in my mind. Just favoritism.
They already publish Snyder plan Justice league 2: lex create a team with dr poison, captain cold, ocean master and black manta. Each of them try to take down Justice league member. Meanwhile Lex and the Riddle try to cract anti-life equation. Dr poison success kill wonder woman. And captain cold hurt cyborg so bad. Meanwhile Bruce develop feeling for lois Lane, but lois choose Clark. Darkseid arrive on earth and steal anti-life equation from Lex. Darkseid kill lois to make Superman hopeless, and Bruce who don't want to save lois realized he fucked up (remember the flash message "lois is the key" , "am i too soon?") Darkseid inject anti life into Superman, and make him his servant. Justice league 2 end.
Exactly, the guy went over budget on all his movies and they looked like shit with lousy action and story and dialogue. Wow! He made one half decent movie with his Justice League cut, all 4+ hours of it.
I love the weird stuff thrown in with the bigger well known superhero stuff. It reminds me of all the crazy spinoffs going on alongside the main character books during the whole "Countdown To Infinite Crisis" storyline. While the actual "Infinite Crisis" was just okay, the build-up had some of my favorite stories. Day Of Vengeance, Secret Six, The OMAC Project, Rann/Thanagar War. So many c-listers and d-listers get their moments to shine. It was a great time to be a DC fan
One of my favorite parts of these announcements is that they seem to be all different and vary in genres. They are sounding all varied so it might be able to over come the super hero burnout
While I am hopeful about James Gunn’s DC Universe I am keeping all of my expectations low and not allowing myself to be “excited.” I learned a hard lesson with the release of Cyberpunk 2077. That release really taught me about managing my expectations and just waiting for the final project. He’s going to have to do something really special with the Superman film bc Hollywood as a whole is struggling. If it turns out good I won’t stop talking about it, but if it turns out bad…well I’ll just move on with my life.
I completely agree that Bruce trying to be a good father and mentor is one of the richest, most interesting parts to the Batman mythos that has yet to be explored. In fact, I think it's one of the lesser-explored parts of superhero films that we have yet to see. We've seen plenty of superhero dads/moms that just want to protect their children, but what if your children (adopted or otherwise), are your proteges? Kids that have also been through incredibly horrific traumas and all, in their own ways, mirror some facet of their parental figure? The Batfamily has so, so much potential to be explored in a heartfelt, emotional way that not only sheds some light on a Batman we haven't really yet seen on the big screen, but also spotlights all of the incredible characters that are paramount to the Batfamily and Bruce Wayne's development as a character. I really hope they bring as many Batkids on as possible and do each of them justice. My personal hope is that Cass gets her due after her questionable depiction in Birds of Prey. Bruce trying to teach Damian to not be a little shit and being a loving mentor who tries his best to help Cass unlearn all of the militaristic behavior she was raised to follow would be so heartwarming to watch.
@@Nishanth_mementomori To me, this comment meant too many movies focus on adding the wokeness and super power part of the movie, but don't add enough grittiness and big enough problems for the superhero to overcome
The first Batman and Superman team up in the new DCU by James Gunn BETTER be named ‘The World’s Finest’ as that’s one of the most iconic phrases ever.. like ever
This is my pitch take for DCU: 1. David Corenswet - Superman 2. Jake Gyllenhaal - Batman 3. Adria Arjona - Wonder Woman 4. Lucas Till - The Flash 5. Trevante Rhodes - Green Lantern 6. Ben Dahlhaus - Aquaman 7. Jamie Foxx - Martian Manhunter 8. Kyle Gallner - Green Arrow 9. Glen Powell - Booster Gold 10. Natalie Alyn Lind - Supergirl
Keep up the great work, been watching your videos since the wandavision video, and continue to enjoy hearing your opinions because of how you back them up. I'm always thinking what you'll have to say after an MCU movie, keep it up man!
@@FilmSpeak np. I also think it's so cool how you always see and respond to people's comments despite having so many. I just noticed you're approaching 100k subs so the fact you still read all the comments is really dope
I think it makes sense for Swamp Thing to be separate for a while if he's just an obscure creature in a small community far away from Metropolis or any other place you'd usually find superheroes. It'll just physically be separated via distance
Gunn never said ST would be separate or Elseworld. He specifically said it was a different tone. Never once was it stated that Swamp Thing would be it's own continuity. I swear, people just hear what they want to hear lol.
Briosafreak here, I got the sentence "you guys should really talk more about Scott Campbell, he was that important": one at NMA, another on the comments of my old blog, and one time one of my anonymous Interplay sources from the Mirc days. Never forgot about that, glad to watch this.
This didn't age well with the talk of how amazing The Flash should be. Talk about one of the biggest bombs in DC history. 😂 The fact that Gunn called it the best superhero movie ever made before it came out should actuslly make people fear his judgement running the DCEU.
Imagine this, you were just hired to be the manager of a burger restauraunt that has previously horrible food, now a new customer asks you, "is the food good here?" What do you answer? I think it's a loade question, doesn't matter what you say.
Gunn’s plan would have worked only if the let Snyder finish his story first, then having it end with a flashpoint like reset to the entire universe. It would have given closure to the DCEU and Snyder fans while also setting up a new universe with no one hating it from the start like many are now
Honestly, i have high hopes and a lot of faith in Gunns vision. Especially since it seems like DC is seemingly so desperate for any success that they're gonna stay out of Gunns way.
The future Superman films should be filled with hope AAANNNDDD optimism... just like the Christopher Reeve Superman films. For example.....Reeve's Superman choked his evil twin to death in Superman 3. He killed Nuclear Man in Superman 4. He took Zod 's powers away, made him human, broke every bone in his hand, then threw him against the walls of the Fortress of Solitude as he sank to his icy grave in Superman 2's theatrical version. Critics didn't complain about Superman killing back then. We need more hope like when Reeve's Superman gave up being a hero in his second film, took away his own powers so he could sleep with Lois. I especially loved when he went to the diner at the end of Superman 2, and beat up a human truck driver when he got his powers back. He broke a pinball machine with that trucker's head. I loved when Reeve's Superman peeked through Lois' blouse and said "it's pink" in reference to her underwear. Not awkward at all if you brought your child to see the film or watch it with them on TV. Nothing fills me with more hope & optimism than watching Superman smile at the camera as John Williams theme plays even though 7 minutes prior to that we watched Lois sinking into the Earth while being crushed within her car as her mouth filled with dirt during her horrific death scene.
I can already see Gunn in a few years saying: "I am stepping down as co-Chairman and co-CEO of DC because of some shit reason that is definitely not related to the mismanagement, decisions and directions of those sitting on the high table of WB who doesn't know shit about comic books."
I don't understand the notion that Marvel wouldn't take risks with lesser known characters or that they connect characters for funsies and not to drive story. The MCU is built on less popular and lesser known characters. A trend that continues til today with Moon Knight, the Werewolf By Night cast, The Eternals and the list goes on. And if they don't connect the characters throughout the saga then there's no story to pull together at the end. Their coming together is contrived if they've existed in isolation all along.
I would imagine Paradise Lost will have the origin of the Bana Mighdall Amazons (Red-haired Artemis’ tribe) and how they broke away from Themyscira via internal conflict over subservience to gods and other priorities. I’d love to see Wonder Woman’s clay origin perhaps at the end of the show too!
The main concern for me and many other fans is the fact that we are seemingly getting an older Batman in his early 40s (41, 42, 43) and a Superman said to be in his mid 20s (24, 25, 26). The age difference in this situation is not very appealing when the two are supposed to be peers even though Batman has always seemed older. So, I propose a Batman timeline so that we can get the experienced Batman that has gone through Robins to have his son as a 3rd or a 4th (Depending on Tim's inclusion), and is young enough to be a part of a 10 year plan as a man in his prime. Specifically, early to mid 30s (31 - 36). Here is my proposed timeline; Bruce Wayne is 8 years old when Thomas and Martha Wayne are killed. Ex - British Soldier/Spy Alfred Pennyworth becomes Bruce's legal guardian. This is when Bruce's training begins in truth. Training Arc I: Alfred begins Bruce's training in order to give the boy an outlet and the means to protect himself while he continues his school education. Training Year One - Bruce is 8/9 Training Year Two - Bruce is 9/10 Training Year Three - Bruce is 10/11 Training Year Four - Bruce is 11/12 Training Year Five - Bruce is 12/13 Training Arc II: Alfred and Bruce travel the world in order to take a brake from Gotham. Bruce continues his education and training while gaining additional Mentors when Alfred has to leave for Gotham periodically to tend to the Wayne Manor and Wayne Enterprises. Training Year Six - Bruce is 13/14 Training Year Seven - Bruce is 14/15 Training Year Eight - Bruce is 15/16 Training Year Nine - Bruce is 16/17 Training Year Ten - Bruce is 17/18 Training Arc III: Bruce becomes an adult and parts from Alfred, the latter returning to Gotham. He gets a Collage degree, gains more mentors, and runs into Ra's, Talia, and The League of Shadows/Assassins. Training Year Eleven - Bruce is 18/19 Training Year Twelve - Bruce is 19/20 Training Year Thirteen - Bruce is 20/21 (He takes a gap year. This is when he runs into Talia specifically and begins his affair with her, siring Damian). Training Year Fourteen - Bruce is 21/22 Training Year Fifteen - Bruce is 22/23 End of the Training Arcs. Bruce returns to Gotham. He trains for 15 YEARS and has been gone from Gotham for 10 YEARS. Batman Year One - Bruce is 23/24 Batman Year Two - Bruce is 24/25. Dick Grayson becomes the 1st Robin at 13/14. Batman Year Seven - Bruce is 29/30. Dick is fired and becomes Nightwing at 18/19. Jason Todd is taken in to become the 2nd Robin at 13/14. Batman Year Nine - Bruce is 31/32. Jason is killed by the Joker at 15/16. Tim Drake is taken in to become the 3rd Robin at 13/14. Batman Year Eleven - Bruce is 33/34. Tim is 15/16. Talia brings Damian to meet his father at 13/14. Batman Year Eleven is where the Brave and the Bold should take place. We have a Batman who has trained for 15 YEARS, 10 of it which he spends away from Gotham, and has an 11 YEARS worth of experience as Batman under his belt. He sires Damian during his solo travels as a 20 something year old. All of the Robins take on the mantle at 13/14 which I think is the most reasonable minimum age for a live action Robin. Dick would have been Robin for the longest out of everyone (Which it is how it should be) and has been Nightwing for sometime at this point. You can Include Barbara as Batgirl and her transition to Oracle in anyway you like using this template. Jason was killed at 15/16 and is resurrected a couple months later at the same age range which puts him at 17/18 during Brave and the Bold. This gives him enough time to grow and come back as the Red Hood down the line. Also, I think that Superman should be in his late 20s (27, 28, 29) as well. And before people think that this is too old for the planned Superman, I urge them to remember the fact that their beloved Henry Cavill portrayed the Man of Steel in an origin movie where he hadn't even began his career in the Daily Planet at the age of 28. So the ages 27, 28, or 29 for a Superman who isn't having an origin and has been a reporter for a little while and is considered young would be no issue at all. A Superman who is 28/29 to a Batman who is 33/34 is absolutely perfect. And to those who think these ages might not work, remember that Chris Evans was 29 when he played Captain America for the first time and RDJ was 42 when he played Iron Man for the first time. They played their characters throughout a 10 year plan as well and I think nobody is complaining about the results. Anyway, if you have come this far, thanks I guess 😂😅
I can't wait for the DCU! Such a great video! I think Gunn said Creature Commandos will take place in present day. It will feature Viola as Amanda Waller and will also have Rick Flag Sr. on the team. Rick Flag Sr. will also be making an appearance in the Waller series!
I already see a hole in Gunn's new DCU. Superman is gonna be younger while batman is older and already has a kid. I always thought Clark and Bruce as well as Damian and Jonathan were around the same ages
that's been ironed out. James said that his Superman will be only a few years younger, and if you read comics you'd know that Jon ages faster. He literally looks like an adult now in DC comics while Damian still looks 15
I am hoping for Brave and the Bold we see Tim as the current Robin, Maybe not have Dick be in the film that much just a cameo and a post credit scene maybe, and have Barbara as Oracle (Oh and Jason in a casket)
@@abhishekkrishna8542 ik but before Damian became Robin it was Tim. They won't start the movie with Damian already as Robin so hopefully Tim currently is because we haven't gotten to see that rivalry outside of the comics
@@jxlennn same but Tim needs some more love and Nightwing could be a post credit scene set up a Titans or Nightwing movie cause while Tim could maybe carry a movie as Red Robin he would be better with Young Justice and I don't think we'll get that anytime soon
Despite growing up with the MCU, I always preferred DC, which is something I rediscovered when I watched the DCAU in full for the first time as an adult. This looks like DC is not only going be different from the MCU, but better than it in some ways.
Finally a director who earned this job through his merit and love of the source material. Not some gurl who wants big named credits so she can get funding for her rom-com.. Eh-Hem! (She-Hulk)
I like how James Gunn’s DCU drops us into an already established universe instead of restarting from scratch with a bunch of boring origin stories. People need to stop acting like the MCU way is the only way. It’s just the only way that worked so far. Plus, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America were virtually unknown to non comic book reading public, while everybody knows who Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Flash is, etc.
I know right I'm glad we're getting a swamp thing movie led by James Gunn and possibly directed by James Mangold this is gonna be awesome but also I'm always gonna be extremely bitter that the amazing Swamp Thing tv show got cancelled and I'm always gonna hold a grudge against WB for cancelling it , I'm trying not to be bitter about it but it's hard not to 😂😅😭
@Editxxxx I don't understand why he had to kick of the shared universe with an insanely convoluted fight between Batman vs Superman if he was building up to Superman taking the anti-life and fighting Batman again. What a shit plan!
@Editxxxx Why does it matter if he's mind controlled? It's still Batman vs Superman again. The fact he is mind controlled lowers the stakes even more. It's not even a personal conflict, It's Transformers 5. People want great story telling. If it was simply about them fighting BvS would have easily made a billion. I'd argue it's Darksied people really want to see. Not a BvS rematch, especially given how bad the first fight was executed.
@Editxxxx BVS would have made a billion if BvS was received better. General audiences are not that hard to please. Garbage like Aquaman made a billion after JL bombed.
I really really hope they'll be FULL, LONG, series instead of short ones like, idk, Moon Knight that only has 6 episodes. We need episodes to build things up, know the characters, and to breathe, not just plot point after another.
James Gunn seems to actually appreciate these comics and what their characters are instead of binding them down to some sad and grey reality as Zack did, his outlook on the superhero genre simply didn't work for DC's characters.
Marvel took risks. One of those risks was James Gunn and GotG. So enough with the “marvel is afraid to take risks.” Even the whole connected universe was one
I hope Gal Gadot moves on. She could pull off the nicer side of Diana’s personality but she’s not a good actress. Not to mention Patty didn’t write the Wonder Woman world like the actual Wonder Woman mythos.
I think the throughline of the Brave and the Bold as a series will be putting a spotlight on individual members of the Batfamily, paired up with Batman for a story
What do YOU think about James Gunn's plans for the DCU? 💥 Are you excited? Comment below! 💥
@@Nagore6305 Honestly loved Gal but Wonder Woman can be better in my opinion and better to just recast

I don’t think so because the Superman movie comes out first and I don’t see how they are the villains in that and then after that get their own movie as superhero’s
EXACTLY my thoughts, which if that’s the case uhhh FUCK YES!
I feel like that too, if so. That’s gonna be amazing!!

I’m beyond excited to see what Gunn does with the DCU. In terms of comic book films he hasn’t got a single miss as of yet, actually some of the best CBMs we have seen in the last decade. With Marvel’s recent record & Gunn working at the DCU now, I think this is the time the DCU not only competes with Marvels MCU but overtakes them
Whats their recent record
MCU is on the decline, the main avengers are gone and people don't care about the new characters

Zachary isn't anti vaxx, he only said that Pfizer doesn't have a great track record which he is objectively correct about
So many possibilities are now open under James Gunn.

I almost shed a tear listening the story about James Gunn walking into his father reading a comic book

Never underestimate Warner Bros ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Hopefully the animated shows are Arcane levels of visual quality

I had to quickly check the release of this video because the flash was not all that.
In regards to Swamp Thing, they could use it as a way of introducing Animal Man, the way Scott Snyder did in his run, which was great.
Even better it could be used to to bring in John Constantine the Hellblazer (since Alan Moore first introduced Constantine in his Swamp Thing run).
So, I propose a Batman timeline so that we can get the experienced Batman that has gone through Robins to have his son as a 3rd or a 4th (Depending on Tim's inclusion), and is young enough to be a part of a 10 year plan as a man in his prime. Specifically, early to mid 30s (31 - 36). Here is my proposed timeline;
Bruce Wayne is 8 years old when Thomas and Martha Wayne are killed.
Ex - British Soldier/Spy Alfred Pennyworth becomes Bruce's legal guardian. This is when Bruce's training begins in truth.
Training Arc I: Alfred begins Bruce's training in order to give the boy an outlet and the means to protect himself while he continues his school education.
Training Year One - Bruce is 8/9
Training Year Two - Bruce is 9/10
Training Year Three - Bruce is 10/11
Training Year Four - Bruce is 11/12
Training Year Five - Bruce is 12/13
Training Arc II: Alfred and Bruce travel the world in order to take a brake from Gotham. Bruce continues his education and training while gaining additional Mentors when Alfred has to leave for Gotham periodically to tend to the Wayne Manor and Wayne Enterprises.
Training Year Six - Bruce is 13/14
Training Year Seven - Bruce is 14/15
Training Year Eight - Bruce is 15/16
Training Year Nine - Bruce is 16/17
Training Year Ten - Bruce is 17/18
Training Arc III: Bruce becomes an adult and parts from Alfred, the latter returning to Gotham. He gets a Collage degree, gains more mentors, and runs into Ra's, Talia, and The League of Shadows/Assassins.
Training Year Eleven - Bruce is 18/19
Training Year Twelve - Bruce is 19/20
Training Year Thirteen - Bruce is 20/21 (He takes a gap year. This is when he runs into Talia specifically and begins his affair with her, siring Damian).
Training Year Fourteen - Bruce is 21/22
Training Year Fifteen - Bruce is 22/23
End of the Training Arcs. Bruce returns to Gotham. He trains for 15 YEARS and has been gone from Gotham for 10 YEARS.
Batman Year One - Bruce is 23/24
Batman Year Two - Bruce is 24/25.
Even if they cast a Bruce That's in his mid to late 30's-40's they can always blame it on the Lazarus pit. Not like the precedent isn't there.
@@maggot216 We'll see what they will do
What’s the animation that was used during the creature commandos part from? It looks so cool I need to watch that
I can't wait for the DCU! Such a great video! I think Gunn said Creature Commandos will take place in present day. It will feature Viola as Amanda Waller and will also have Rick Flag Sr. on the team. Rick Flag Sr. will also be making an appearance in the Waller series!
I would LOVE a Question movie...he was one of my favorite characters back in my late 80s comic Fandom days.
@@jxlennn oh I see… thank you for that. Gunn is sure pitching a good idea here. Let’s just hope and pray he writes a good story
@@kirkjaney1992 I hope so too
Excellent video and breakdown from one impassioned DC native to another.
I just want a Martian Manhunter movie :(
I feel like another great pick for booster gold would be Nathan Fillion, channelling some of that good old Cayde-6
If it's as good as the animated series, I'm on board
Couldn’t agree more! Gunns slate shows he actually cares about what the fans want to see.
I am hoping for Brave and the Bold we see Tim as the current Robin, Maybe not have Dick be in the film that much just a cameo and a post credit scene maybe, and have Barbara as Oracle (Oh and Jason in a casket)
He literally said it's damian wayne as robin
But he also mentioned that most the batfamily will be in or introduced in the film
I agree, but I would like Nightwing to be a supporting character in the film
I see a Cadmus Arc written all over this for some reason! Gunn said JLU Animated Series is a inspiration too.
possible superboy setup, could lead to a titans film
Same I see CADMUS being “everywhere”
Exactly. For example, we don't need to wait 15 whole years for Dick Grayson to become Nightwing,
I know right I'm glad we're getting a swamp thing movie led by James Gunn and possibly directed by James Mangold this is gonna be awesome but also I'm always gonna be extremely bitter that the amazing Swamp Thing tv show got cancelled and I'm always gonna hold a grudge against WB for cancelling it , I'm trying not to be bitter about it but it's hard not to 😂😅😭
Love this excellent job perfect directions James Gunn
In Gunn we trust (but also an animated series that finishes Zack Snyder's vision is NEEDED)
@edittzz4175 liar. Zack Snyder's vision was and WILL BE BETTER than anything James Gunn the suspected pedophile put out.
@Editxxxx I don't understand why he had to kick of the shared universe with an insanely convoluted fight between Batman vs Superman if he was building up to Superman taking the anti-life and fighting Batman again. What a shit plan!
@Editxxxx That doesn't make a difference. Why center BvS around them fighting when he was going to do it again a few films later with JL.
That Paradise Lost series is giving me Xena: Warrior Princess vibes. I'm all for it let's go 90's Greek gods series!
Marvel took risks. One of those risks was James Gunn and GotG. So enough with the “marvel is afraid to take risks.” Even the whole connected universe was one
With the success of the penguin series I am going to watch anything Matt Reeves put out 😊
Really looking forward to see what James and Peter do.
Christal Henry was a Supervising Producer and wrote one episode of Watchmen. She was not the creator. Lindelof was the Creator. Anyway, awesome video!
Zack Snyder did the god trying to be like humans with man of steel
Gunn calling The Flash one of the best superhero movies ever made really kills a lot of my hope for this newest attempt at a DC universe
He doesn't mean it in the way you're thinking he meant it like the flash was a great to movie to reset the dceu into dcu so yea
last time a CEO roasted their own product, it ended up in them getting fired and the company almost going bankrupt
I hope Gal Gadot moves on. She could pull off the nicer side of Diana’s personality but she’s not a good actress. Not to mention Patty didn’t write the Wonder Woman world like the actual Wonder Woman mythos.
Im subbing because you know what you’re talking about especially with that brave and the bold segment!
Nvm you think chris would make a good booster (hes a college aged guy not some 50 yo)
32:19 that didnt age well.
we are really satisfying superman movie
I think the throughline of the Brave and the Bold as a series will be putting a spotlight on individual members of the Batfamily, paired up with Batman for a story
I'll wait and see what JG will do with this before I put any faith in him.
