  • Shawn Lichaa gives a brief talk about the religious standing of Karaite Jewish women from the middle ages through today. Shawn dedicated this talk in honor of the life and achievement of Sheila Cohen.
Per Shawn Lichaa: "In reviewing the video, I note that I stumbled on some words when speaking about the Egyptian Karaite Marriage crisis. For clarification, the 'dowry' is what the bride's father would contribute to the new marriage. The 'bride price' is what was paid by grooms/husbands in ancient Israel. (E.g., Exodus 22:16-17.)"
Bibliography: The talk discusses three works that focus on Karaite Judaism, which are listed here for your reference.
The Stains of Culture: An Ethno-Reading of Karaite Jewish Women by Ruth Tsoffar
Karaite Marriage Documents from the Cairo Geniza: Legal Tradition and Community Life in Mediaeval Egypt and Palestine by Judith Olszowy-Schlanger
Male Greed, Female Influence and the Future of the Egyptian Karaites: Social change in al-Kalīm, 1945-1951 (A dissertation submitted to the University of Manchester for the
degree of Master of Arts in the Faculty of Humanities 2013) by Katharine Halls

Shalom, I have this huge doubt about Daniel's book and why it isn't considered as part of the prophets. I know that the talmud says in fact, that he isn't a prophet and the other true prophets that were with him didn't recieve it... but I mean, I don't know the karaite explanantion, is it the same? Please PLEASE HELP Thank you

The karaite view is that after the all books are part of the miqra without distinctions (created by the rabbis)

Fact of the matter is that the Kippah is *post*-Halakhic, which makes it post-Talmudic.
Where exactly does the word "Judaism" show up in the Talmud, "I M"? Enlighten me please.

You're creating confusion. For better and for worse, nearly all descendents of the ancient Israelite tribes, whether originally from the Northern or Southern Kingdom, have come to refer to themselves as "Jews".
No theology that holds Mt. Gerizim as the holiest site and rejects the sanctity of Jslm., the Temple Mt., plus the Prophets and Writings sections of the Jewish Bible can be a form of Judaism -- neither logically nor by Judaism's yardsticks. The Samaritans themselves categorically deny that their religion is a form of Judaism, population regestries by secular authorities notwithstanding.

No Offense but it just seems like the classic bait and switch. Who are the Karaites kidding. All the speakers are men. And the ones who want to get women more involved of course are for the next generation. Not them. Which suggests to me that they just they are afraid of competition from younger men. Rabbinic Judaism is similar in that the Rabbis are all for feminism with one exception and that is in their own profession as they don't want to lose their job to a woman. The fact that so called Orthodox Judaism has a male shortage clearly suggest the Rabbis are all for feminism and it is good diversion tactic when in their own profession they don't have to compete with women.
Similarly if Karaites are all for women in another generation but not their own as I had one Karaite tells me this and again what is righteous about this. It seems to suggest that Karaites are afraid of questions from a younger generation of men.

Don't anybody take seriously the toxic nonsense spouted by the auto-antisemitic "mitzvah golem". It goes without saying that Qaraites are not Noachides.
The Israeli government, Knesset and even many Orthodox Jews everywhere DO recognize the Qaraites as the Jews that they are.
The auto-antisemites that infest social media sites with anti-Qaraite hatred are a wild outgrowth of the opinion expressed by a single Rabbinic decisor, who argued centuries ago that the Qaraites are not Jews. All other Rabbinic decisors determined that they are Jewish, though heretical (in their viewpoint). Accordingly, the Israeli Rabbanite does recognize them as Jews.
I don't care what drivel Rambam (Maimonedes) argued; there is no proof whatsoever that the Qaraite Jews are literal descendents of Sadducees.
