Only held back by decades on non woke Warhammer 40k lore so i don't think there would be much of a need for Amazon to place pressure on Games Workshop to get their female custodes but... on the other hand GW stock IS down...

Something that flew under-the-radar a while back was the first Artemis Fowl movie.
The book tells the opening tale of super villain Artemis Fowl and his bodyguard Butler who seek to steal from the fairies. Through his manipulations, and his own plans, he manages to win. The fairies give over a large amount of gold to him, they heal his sick mother, and he manages to over come the mind wipe.
The movie does none of that, and makes it a generic action boy movie with a sword.
Disney bought the rights and got the author's approval for this movie.
I wouldn't put it past a big company to do something this stupid with other IPs.
To be fair, healing his mother and getting out of a mindwipe were a later books(abd after the point where he had the character development to shift from villain to something relitively heroic, but yes, the movie did not do the villain protagonist aspect of the first book.

It is hinted at that he made a deal with the dwarf criminal to return to him at a later date to break the mind wipe.

He also wore specialized contact lenses the fairies didn't notice during the mindwipe meaning the fairies couldn't account for them when altering his memory. This would start him on the path of either rediscovering the fairies or regaining his memories, but that was the sequel hook. I think he made a deal with the dwarf too, but it's been years since I read the books, so I don't remember.
It flew under the radar because it was a plane on fire and on it's way to the crash. We knew it was shit the moment we saw Butler. But we also are people who are very used to scams being run by Artemis, and the fandom just collectively decided this was a scam being run on Disney.

It's not impossible, GW has been actively positioning themselves as an IP farm rather than a games company over the last decade or so. They really, really want to get bought out by someone like Disney or Hasbro, so that then they can just sit back and collect money by licensing out the IP to anyone and everyone, rather than actually doing anything with it.

Woke companies don't really go broke. The ESG bagel bucks will inflate stock prices, and indeed, the pursuit of ESG points can actually override the main business of the said company. Case in point, I work for an insurance company, and we've been told more than once that many investors don't even care about insurance; they just talk about ESG. Has it worked? Well the share price of my employer is up over 50% from the start of 2022.
At some point they have to realize that’s not sustainable. Especially considering how much they like to prattle on about sustainability.

Amazon has tried the same on the game industry, everything original they've tried to make has floped miserably and now they're just acting as publisher for every mmo that comes out, specially korean and japanese, also failing miserably and adding censoring and DEI wherever they can. I don't understand why their ESG score is so low.
Easy to explain: Just as with everything about woke ideology, ESG has nothing to do with what it says it has but everything is about manipulation and power. The score isn't reflecting how ecologic, social or quota friendly you are, it is all about how deep the direct influence of the company making the score is in the company getting the score.
Amazon doesn't want to give control over to anybody else in any capacity. All they do is to make them look progressive while keeping their core intact. They don't need the ESG money, which alone lowers their score significantly. It's all a PR Game for them, while for the ESG companies it is about power and control.
GW is very weird in that regard. On the one hand they constantly give people formerly working for the company they want good relations with (or the government). On the other they will Always go for the most exploitative, capitalistic option that gives away as little as possible to anybody outside the inner circle owning the company. It's why they are somehow super protective and don't care one spit about the IP at the same time. They explicitly prevent any option for FSM but let them write Femstides and Double down on it, because one seems important for the value of the IP, the other not.
I don't think Amazon has anything to do with this. GW did a similar retcon adding women into a male only faction just a few months ago, literally retconning in female bretonnian knights in a "there were always female knights" move.
So they did this same thing with another of their games with an IP that has nothing to do with Amazon.
With their roleplaying game over the last 3 years they have literally retconned rewrites of older material to gender swap 50% of the male NPCs into females.

The problem with this theory is that’s unlikely the relationship with the fans, and thus the value of the company, can be restored. My theory is that Cavill has contract provisions which prevented the show from violating the lore, so Amazon pressured GW to change the lore directly to force Cavill to do what they want. This would likely still be a violation of the clear intent of the contract and thus vitiate it.
Yeah, I can see that happening. "Oh well, we'll just use our leverage to make them change the lore and so the contract term doesn't matter."

I think we have to look back onto the timeline here and consider that codex's are usually written two years in advance. This is pretty much an open secret now since they have their publishing done in multiple regions for their codex material.
This was around when ESG was really heating up and Captain Slow was probably given the okay to add this into the codex hoping to capitalise on DEI when it would be released. They did not expect public sentiments to change so rapidly.
As for the lack of models, I guess its plausible deniability. GW is always slow and timid in following trends, which often has them making actions when they are years out of fashion.
no I think they just threw in this short story, they only had to alter one page of the codex. They could have made the story and thrown it in right before printing.
They write the Main Rules books 2 years in advance, a Codex can be much closer to Release, especially edits and changes right before print.
We have many examples, the Custodes are one, where the Codex is an obvious reaction to a situation in the meta, trying to give a faction a push or tone it down. 9th was much more obvious with how rules to counter problems where added that where relevant 4-8 months prior. They where written in blogs (multiple books by the same writers at the same time or Close to each other).
As someone who works for Kroger, I can tell you corporate sabotage is a real thing.

When you compare them to Mattel (over 6 billion worth), Bandai (over 12 billion worth), Hasbro (over 8 billion worth) and lastly GW which is sitting under 4 billion worth.
If you don't believe me then I'll go back to the start, I work at Kroger and for those who don't know they are trying to buy up Albertsons. The FTC is against it currently and Kroger is "showing good faith" that it's trying not to control the market by selling their stores and DCs to a smaller company.
For those who don't know when a big company sells a lot of assets to a smaller company, the smaller company can barely (most of the time) hold or maintain those assets and ether they go bankrupt, go under or the big company who sold those assets at a basic cost will get them for dirt cheap (think of it as almost house flipping).
I really can't see it... The point of buying something would be for it's customer base - driving away all the customers certainly would cheapen the price, but only because it would actually be worth less with fewer customers.
Business people assume that you as a Warhammer fan will buy anything with the Warhammer logo on it. Amazon intends to swing the IP around like a club against anybody attempting to do anything similar, regardless of how legitimate it would be. We're talking about suing people for inch based moving, for using the "nuns with guns" motif. You know, Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation (SLAPP lawsuits).

Cavill pushes for 40k series, gets Amazon on board->GW and Amazon negotiate, Amazon insists on wokestodes->GW caves without telling Cavill->Cavill finds out at the same time we do

I mean outside of Star wars, the next huge science fiction with loyal fans would be Warhammer 40k. It has huge potential. I could see how Amazon would use this to compete with Disney in that genre.
3D printing has been putting the plastic figurine companies future at risk for almost a decade now, any smart peson would be jumping ship asap with that company.

10:00 as somebody who wanted to get sculpts made, it's £10,000 to make the metal mould for a single sprue. Then the plastic is cheap, but imagine every box set at GW has 4-5 sprues. Then you can make like 5-6 guys with some options, but it will cost ~£50,000 to make the tooling for the plastic injection. That's after you paid wages to everyone for years too, each tabletop game takes ~3-5 years to develop

Warhammer 40K players do not need Games Wotkshop. They are in the same position as D&D players with WoTC. The OSR is a good exsmple of the way. WH40K players should just revert to their favorite edition, ignore the rest, and make new figures with 3D resin printers.

What I think this may have been is Henry Cavill demanding from Amazon for him to be part of a show it has to be lore accurate.
So Amazon pressured GW to change the lore so it was technically in compliance with Cavill and still getting it's DEI way.

Usually they would offer to buy out a specialty online retailers. If they rejected then Amazon would drop the prices of the related products by an insane margin and eat the losses. The small retailer can't price match and eventually goes out of business. At this point Amazon jacks the price to values above what they were before the sales

That's my question. There have been important female characters in the lore from the very beginning. Not to mention different skin colors. Imperial Navy officers, Imperial Guard commanders, fucking INQUISITORS... all have been depicted as male and female and in a wide variety of skin tones. It's pretty sus that they made that specific change out of everything they could have done.
It is not the companies. It is the people there, they have successfully infiltrated them over past decades and now or pushing their political agenda. In their own interest, not even best interest to those who pay them substantial amounts of money...
For an explanation of DEI, it's simple. It's government backed. Like Milk farms having to donate to Dairy Management Inc for a tax break, or else they get hit by government investigations with fines and potentially being shut down and their property seized and auctioned, all these companies have to do it or risk the government attacking them. And the Dairy Management Inc example is the USA, British Companies have it far worse, after all, there's no private land ownership unless you're from the old nobility.

Here in the UK a sore topic that irritates a lot of people is that any time some successful UK company, IP, institution, property or whatever exists some giant American corporation will come along like a vacuum cleaner and suck it up using their immense wealth to buy it out, then exert their control and even change it to be more Americanised. Or they do it to already existing things that have existed for a long time. And if they can't buy it out they use their economic, legal and political power to ruin it so that only their products or companies can exist. Staples of British culture even have been taken over and changed by American corporate overlords. Everywhere you look you'll find everything owned or controlled by American big businesses and everything's always being Americanised. And if anyone dares to make their own alternative to compete they're bought up or destroyed by American companies who have the political and economic power to do whatever the hell they like.
If Amazon really are buying GW it'll only be yet another in a long list or British companies . They own our shops, our banks, our media, our land, our homes, they even have sway over our politicians. Sometimes it feels like we're vassals not to the US but to US corporations. This "special relationship" our two nations have always seems so one sided. Though I suppose if it's this bad in the UK it must feel worse in the US considering even their government can be bought out by these corporations. The scif fi stories of dystopian corpocracies probably aren't that inaccurate to how the future may end up.

Nah, I'm calling BS on this one. Unless Rings of Power is also a ploy to "tank" the value of Tolkien's work so they can buy it "pennies on the dollar", this is just more identity politics. Amazon has a lot of that. They spent stupid amounts of money on a couple of chapters from the appendices of Tolkien's books. They would just buy Games Workshop outright; tanking the value of the IP they want to milk makes no sense. It would take years to get that value back.

People don't know that much about business. GW creates revenues of nearly half a billion pounds per year selling their models, nobody's goal is to end that revenue stream. Anyone who believes there's a single person on Earth who wears a tie to work who actually plans to needs, to just stop. You don't know how it works, you don't know what will and will not make money, the conspiracies about this company never pan out.
My problem whith this theory is that Amazon can just outright buy GW whith pocket money.
I'd rather have it bought up and released into the public domain so none of these douchebag companies can profit off it unless we can also profit off it. The fans will always decide what's canon to them and the ones most faithful to the lore and putting the most effort in will usually have that rewarded these days. People are starving for good content and fans are only being held back on making their own for themselves and others by things like copyright laws. Just release these things to the public and the fans will gatekeep it themselves like they always have tried to do.
For example, nobody would be lapping up that Amazon Fallout show slop right now if fans were free to make their own content set in the game worlds as well. People would be flocking to the fan made projects like they have been for ages now anyway.

If they really stood behind their belives, and really thought that females had to have representation in Custodians (they would implement it a lot earlier, but that is not the point), they would have come up with new models, either unixsex (to fit both male and female Custodians), or purely female Custodians with new armour, that would differ from their male counterparts. If they would really care, they would have come with an actual lore explanation, on why there are female Custodians, like for example after the War in the Webway, there was such a need for new Custodians they need to recruit noble daughters also, or that the Custodians are so perfect, that it doesnt matter what sex they had at the beggining, or that Emperor experimented at the beggining, found out that male body fits better, because there would be some kind of downside to female Custodians.
But no, they just made some story about female Custodian (which was so out of Custodians character, where she started laughing when the other caught her) to fit the quota to get money. Purely political and monetary reasons. If only the other side saw this, that this is not longer a company, which had passionate people in it, that wanted to expand this great setting, which Warhammer is.
While it could be true, it would be a very dumb idea if it was true. Unlike most industries where you can tank the stock and then raise it again. Warhammer is mostly about the lore and story. After the official platform puts something out there, there isn't really any taking it back.
Not unless Amazon is willing to retcon everything, possibly reboot the series entirely or something like Disney did with Star wars and the expanded universe stuff in the books/games. Even then it would make a lot of people angry as it wouldn't just remove the "woke stuff".

Saw the post about the Custodian heads. If I remember the details of the law suit against the 3rd party mini company from a few years ago, the judge ruled that it was fair game to make miniatures if there was rules for something but no models. Does that mean that it's open seasons for 3rd parties to make female Custodians? Or does the "the female ones are the ones wearing their helmet" logic loophole I've seen online from shills use to covers this. Not that there's an actual demand for them but it goes against their whole business model since the lawsuit.
