- The Adeptus Custodes where always male, stated clear as daylight in the lore but GW is weak! They where infiltrated years and years ago and this surprisingly cowardly and hesitant mover towards female space marines was as inevitable as it was predictable. And it proves once and for all that Games Workshop will NOT protect your hobby from the woke politics they will not protect 40k and only Gatekeeping your community can keep the warhammer you love safe

Well the Great thing is that we don't need the company to enjoy the setting, not really.
We now have 3 viable strategies ahead of us in my opinion:
1)Stick with earlier 40k editions - that way you can still play the game and exclude the corporate bs. That'll be largely what I'll be doing (I'm going to try going back to 4th edition [with Chaos 3.5] and port newer units into it).
2)Abandon 40k and play Horus Heresy - that way you have a complete setting and story that'll be harder to tamper with since GW gives it less attention (more so now that the novels are over).
3)Abandon the setting entirely and go to proxies like OPR and Space King. I don't blame anyone for doing this; if I wasn't so loyal to the 40k/30k setting I might've done the same.
That's ALWAYS how it goes.
Woke bullshit has never been requested or wanted by fandoms (except with some extremely nieche titles that you'd need a deep-web excavation liscence to ever find), but the corporations did it anyways. With various colours of smokescreen put up to mask it.
And this is the single most potent argument why gatekeeping doesn't work. Because ultimately, unless you are in control of the IP's creative direction, you don't have any real control over the direction it takes.

Don't use the new Models/Rule Books, and 3D Print any replacements you need. Games Workshop has chosen to support Craptivists over the actual Players/Customers.
That's GW though, it's never catered to what it's customers actually want or the armies where people genuinely wanted female models, I remember calls for Femals Guardsmen all the way back in 2003, 2004, we thought we'd get the, with the 4/5th edition Doctrine codex, but nope... had to wait for Victorian Minitures Arcadian Guard to come along. And after 20 years of asking what did GW give us... a few head swaps on male bodies (which includes the character models) only female looking one they ever released was the catachan jungle fighter sargeant and she was modelled off an old Golden Demon entry.

Say a female is 50% less effective than a male.
After becoming a Custodes they become 1000x more powerful so that 50% becomes 0.05%
He also saw fit to include people with a gut full of reproductive organs in his sterile supersoldiers.

They added female custodies while, most likely, a 40k show with custodies is being made by Cavil.
Most likely, they discussed it while making the show and are introducing it now so it doesn't whiplash when the show comes out.

- avoid buying their products
- instead of buying a £300 box of models buy a £300 3d printer
- play your games, enjoy your games, ignore GW

3d printing is great for those willing to put in the time and effort to wrap their brain around its peculiarities . . . but for the rest of us . . . buying used, as well as recasting at home using resin casting suppliers such as Alumilite, are perfectly reasonable alternatives to GW.
Models I paid $10 for twenty years ago now cost $90. When buying a 3d printer is cheaper than buying the cheap plastic crap, you know that it's pure greed.
You also need to make your distaste clear when playing with anyone who has new models from now on…

The main issue is that literally everything before this codex was like ''Son, son, sons, sons, brothers, brother, men, men'' without the slightest possible hint of any ambiguity on the subject, and now there's suddenly not just female custodians, but named ones.
This isn't a lore reveal, or anything put into a different perspective, it is 100% a retcon for the sake of testing waters for the inevitable female space marine retcon. And yes, that too will be just as blatant and untelegraphed retcon. They will just pretend like they were always a thing and move on.

By the way, for your information the Imperium at the time of the Great Crusade may have been better than the one in 40k, but it was neither democratic nor inclusive and in fact ideologically it would be much closer to the totalitarianisms of the 20th century than the feudal theocracy of M41.

GW should never have made the Custodes a playable faction in 40k. They should have remained mythical figures, products of forgotten science.
Or at least they should have remained only in the hands of the Forge World Studio, which they seem to be (although to a lesser extent after the departure of the great Alang Bligh) the only division of GW that has taken their universes seriously in the last fifteen years.

Let's be honest, we knew this will happen. Deep down. I already see "not so bad" cope at Twitter. At this point I do not feel gatekeeping at global scale does anything. We need to do it at local scale. Find likely minded people, play games, use one page rules, lore up to certain point, create own games, support those that create their stuff, and gatekeep our spaces.
And most important of all - do not return to brands or communities that broke your trust. Star Wars can't be fixed at this point. No one is going to press rewind button. Do not buy products, do not check whats new, if anything improved. Going into direction most media went must mean death of a franchise. There need to be no back doors "we can fix it if it doesn't work". None of that shit. I know it's hard to stop buying stuff you were hyped for for years, but at this point what joy is left there? It will taste like ash, and only embolden fucks, that hate you, and destroyed your hobby.

A friend sent me a copy of the revised WHFRP rulebook for nostalgia reasons. I have the original book from the 1990s and a quick flick through the revised book gave me a glimpse of where GW was heading. All of a sudden there are illustrations of women in the careers A-Z, that were explicitly NOT there in the original and make absolutely no sense.

Horus just renounces the chaos powers and begs the emperor to kill him and then the emperor forgives Horus and stabs him before he decides he’s sleepy and just falls down to nap. (No I’m not shitting you that is the canon ending to the emperor prior to being put on the Golden throne. Horus’ body was intact, his souls rests peacefully with the emperor completely free of corruption and the emperor was not nearly as crippled as the legends and was placed on the throne still very much intact.).
It makes me genuinely sick. The old canon had the best tragic lore and GW screwed it all up. It’s just a matter of time before they come for my beloved legion. And like my fellow Dark Angels I will sit in the shadows and wait until the time is right and the tourists have left, and do my part to restore the lore with what little I preserved for the next generation. My absolute fury at my hobby being thrown in the trash can aside, I'm gonna get into why this makes no sense logic wise and in the context of 40k.
Females make fine soldiers. I'm in the army and there is some badass female soldiers. Thats a fact. But another fact is that a peak physical male is always gonna be superior to a peak physical female. People can get mad at me for saying that and I don't care. Its a fact. The standards for the 2 genders in the army is different for a reason. And the reason I bring that up is because there is what, 200+ billion people on Terra? And there is around 10,000 custodes. So you're telling me that they are going to sacrifice efficiency for the sake of inclusion in a universe where war is literally never ending? There is so little custodes, you can't logically reason why its better to have a single female over a male. Not when every single advantage is needed against the monstrous enemies mankind fights every solitary day. I have absolutely no problem with females being in the imperial guard and the such, but not with custodes or astartes.
And that is exactly why I don't like it. Aside from the previous edition outright saying only males, the peak physical human is male. If the genetic magic they are doing can bring a female to be the exact equal of a male why would they use that to bring the males that much higher?
The custodes are supposed to be the finest among the finest warriors of all time. Similar to our own special forces in real life, not a single woman has been able to pass training. It's not that women aren't allowed to become Navy Seals, it's that they literally have not physically been able to accomplish the training. So you mean to tell me a woman can't even complete regular human training but can complete all the necessary components of transhuman training?
There shouldn’t even be women in the imperial guard. They can serve the imperium far better by being mothers and producing more men to fight. Any society that allows its females to go into combat is a society doomed to failure.
GW started down the path whe they updated imperial guard with the fall of Cadia and replaced Ursaka Creed with Ursula Creed.
If they were honest they would look at the Sisters of Silence and say, ah the female half of protecting the Emperor himself.
Or the Sisters of Battle and say, ah, here is the women in power armour with badass faith powers.
Or literally all of the Imperial Guard where men AND women are tithed to the war-effort as all are equally good sacrifices on the altar of Humanity.

Anyone who's been a long-time 40K fan could tell when the Primaris came out that whoever was in charge of GW no longer cared about the game or it's lore.
I'm in the minority of people who didn't really mind the Primaris. I honestly think Primaris gear and vehicles are cool. I just can't stand blatant lore changes for the sake of wokism, like fucking female Custodes.
Primaris marines are tame considering this level of fuckery but ultimately you are right.
Always the slippery slope, that's why it's so hard to fight it - most normies are like @whitemale2230 and don't even consider first signs a possible threat, but then slip, and it's too late..
to be clear, I don't judge nor condone. There is nothing wrong with being a normie, just enjoying the hobby itself without getting into politics attached to it. The first post is right, check the minis of each space marine chapter/legion in the last codex/boxes/book covers:
-Ultra/fists/scars/raven: every unit has brown/dark/yellow and some White in the minis without helmet. Even though they are "lesser copies of their primarchs".
- salamanders: all dark, not a single yellow nor "light" mini.
- wolves/dark/blood/iron: i think i havent seen the mix in there, for the moment they are descendants of their primarchs.
It has been that way for at least 2/3 codex now.

The push for females should have been obvious when pretty much every character that isnt a space marine has been a woman. The only exception I can think of is Lord Solar Leontus. Everyone from tank commanders and squad sergeants to Inquisitors and Imperial Knight pilots. The end of Iron Within comes to mind when the female guardsman stands her ground against the Iron Warrior terminator where the man buckles and kneels, as well as being an incompetent bugger throughout. The tyranid episode of Hammer and Bolter also has the women good men incompetent problem.
Battletech weathered the woke storm because the IP has bounced around between companies. The game existed before catalyst and by the hands of the fans it woll exist after it too. Begore catalyst came along, Battletech was being kept on life support by the fans. Warhammer in general has not had that and honestly, I dont think any other compamy could carry the mantle that had been forged over the decades. Warhammer will live with games workshop and will likely die with it too.

unfortunately the common response among the people i know that play 40k is "this is complaining over petty stuff in a game so it doesn't matter who cares" and they refuse to budge on it. Maybe they will when the black templars celebrate working with the eldar but probably not.
There's a very simple reason why I've committed myself to just making my own war game - GW doesn't care for and respect both its consumers and its properties. I played Fantasy since I was a kid, but GW simply nuked it because they couldn't be bothered to fix the issues they caused. Years later, they bring it back in the form of a glorified second grave called TOW and think it's appropriate to charge me $100+ for two-decade-old models. I've had enough. I'm taking my time and money, writing my own fluff, printing out my own models, and playing with my own rules.
Razorfist makes a point in almost all of his media-focused videos that doesn't get repeated nearly as much as it should. Don't give your time or money to people who, at best, are indifferent towards you, and at worst, outright hate you.
this is how ive felt about GW for an extremely long time. I was also a Fantasy fan who ate the same issues, but I also remember how they hammered on the fan projects people worked on along with price hikes and various legal situations. I don't care if said fan projects creators hate my position, the fact is GW has done nothing but profit off the IP in spite of how much more difficult they make it for the fans to get content they enjoy.
the GW of today is much like the game companies of today, gliding on goodwill built up by people and concepts that left the building and picked up by people who can't break the habit, and no matter of people spamming GW's "you won't be missed" at the people expressing issue with things like this changes the fact the companies taking them for a ride.
@@DarkCT interestingly enough, I think GW is much closer to crashing their own market than people realize. In my opinion, I don't think your average consumer can stomach $100+ prices for basic infantry kits consisting of around 10 models. Another $10-$20s worth of price hikes puts GW in that position, and it's one we're likely to see within 5 years.
And when I say "I'm making my own game", I mean from the ground up. I'm not aiming for "legally distinct Fantasy", but rather something that's distinctly it's own. I do, however, want to learn from and implement things GW did in the past. For example, I don't want to just make rules free, I also like to borrow GW's old cutout idea and make those available for free via PDF files. That way people curious about the game, or just interested in the game side of things can play with minimal investment on their part.
@@spnked9516 Considering 3D printers are a thing I think 100's already got us to the point of no return for GW prices.
@@kalashnikovdevil 3D printing has come along way, but it's still too much of an inconvenience for your average consumer. Give them another 5-10 years and I think we'll see the last few hiccups ironed out.
for existing mind you. and we will have to do that to not only undermine them but also to steal there IP away from them.
