Also they actually believe the emperor is a god hence they differ from the space marines (except black templars) if anything they should buff the sisters of battle slightly, maybe getting some a assistance from a terra high lords for political reasons due to them not trusting the space marines fully.
The fact that the Imperial Guard are pretty human is what makes them a great faction and these men and women have accomplished so much. Sisters of Battle need better lore. make em fall to chaos, slaughter an entire loyalist SM chapter and wear them as paint. fr tho, SM covers everything from zealots, renegades all the way to insane heretics. now, what do the sisters have? 1 heretic, and less than 10 known militant orders.
and don't forget that the only reason the imperium survived was that the custodies had to show their leader the big E.

There are literally only two positions women don't have access to in 40k:
Astartes and Custodes.
Guess what. There are two positions men don't have access to in 40k too:
Sororitas and Sisters of Silence.
Seems pretty even to me. Considering each of those positions are mirrors to each other.

Truly, the most epic conclusion and totally lore accurate ending because you can't trust any existing lore so it must have happened.

You may laugh but that’s almost paraphrasing Malcador when he quotes the Emperor in a Horus Heresy book.

Except they're not, women go into literally every other branch, some that dont include men; the adeptus sorroritas, sisters of silence, ordo hereticus, ordo xenos, officio assassinorum, Astra militarum, Death Korps of Krieg, cadian regiments, Attalan rough riders, armageddon steel legion, catachan jungle fighters, tempestus scions, high lords of terra, adeptus mechanicus, adeptus titanicus, the inquisition, the ordo malleus, ship hands, ship captains, generals, lords and castellans.
They're included literally everywhere except this one hyper specific and very clearly reasoned section. This has nothing to do with women and everything to do with you feeling like you know whats best for an entire franchise.
And that's not even getting into how the Emperor himself tried his absolute damndest TO get women in, but the Gene Seed just doesn't take. With time, he could've figured it out, but the Crusade NEEDED to get a move on.
Also there are no lack on aspirants for astartes training. Most die as well so why risk resources on a physically weaker gender when most men can’t take it.
GW could make it happen though and it is not like they've made the Adepta Sororitas anyway relevant as a faction in the grand scheme of things, they are barely there. Just add women as the face of the franschise if you're not gonna make women be part of the bigger picture.
It's pretty funny that these brainless people are so obsessed over such silly things as this. It makes me wonder if they really care about "women" if they keep insisting in both the real world and fiction that women must be sent to their deaths. Or do they think war is cool and awesome? Or is it just that marines are "The strongest" so they MUST have women as well or else? It's a fruitless endeavor and waste of time to think on really. The drones should be laughed at and ridiculed. I thought they all had to be male because the the primarcs from which they were made were male. The emperor only made sons so the process only had male compatible geneseeds to work with.

I think that "the space marines are warrior monks and the sisters of battle are warrior nuns" is a fairly reasonable.. reason. The imperium has one org that's men only, the one that's women only, and the rest are pretty thoroughly integrated
@@coolsenjoyer monastic orders, rather. Monastic in the sense of ritual, tradition, and lifestyle. if you take how the average space marine lives day to day, comparing them to monks is quite apt.
call them knightly orders, if you must. Either way, we have a group of warrior men, a group of warrior women, and a bunch of warriors of fairly integrated mix.
i reckon we should get more representation/stories of the warrior nuns, particularly a book where celestine and greyfax kiss. But space marines? eh. they can be boys only, sure. not much the reason im into 40k anyways
What's hilarious is that, for so many, something so simple to accept and understand has become so difficult to accept and understand. It's only controversial because some real-world narratives tremble at it.
The Catachan Jungle Fighters are one of the toughest and most skilled factions of the Astra Militarum and they are made up of men and women. This was a real shortcoming on the otherwise reputable Templin Institute.
The thing with this though is that Sisters of Battle are NOT a space marine equivalent, they are, roughly phrased, religious shock troops analogous to Schola Progenium stormtroopers, albeit less spec-ops and more line units.
Space Marines are super soldiers so far above anything achievable by baseline humans that it's genuinely hard to actually imagine it even with the lore describing them as such. More importantly, though, and this is the most pertinent point of the whole thing, they are also already so genetically engineered that any appeal to women being naturally smaller and weaker or w/e is completely moot, because they could just engineer that away.
"The science doesn't work on women" simply doesn't hold up to the fact that the science to create space marines in the first place is already exponentially more impressive than overcoming a chromosome deficit or w/e reason could be given.

I don't think the Imperium of Man can be really accused of misogyny. PDFs, Guard regiments, and the Imperial Navy are open recruitment for any branch.
Also, it's important to remember that the Astartes don't really answer to anyone. The chapters that choose to associate overly close with a branch of the Imperial government are generally looked down upon by fellow Astartes. So, if a chapter could do it, I think they would have by now. So far as we know, no chapter ever has.
Indeed. Aside from few chamber militants chapter, space marines are essentially autonomous.
Here are few chamber militants, so to speak, chapter.
*Grey knights- ordo malleus
*Exorcists- ordo malleus/ ordo hereticus
*Deathwatch- ordo xenos
*Minotaurs- high lords of terra
*Red hunters- inquisition in general
And that's true at all sorts of levels. The Space Marine Legions were devolved into collections of chapters after the Horus Heresy, in an attempt to contain any new heresies... and yet the Space Wolves Legion is still active, more or less daring the Ultramarines and their primarch to do something about how little they care about his _Codex Astartes._
The thing about the Imperium of Mankind is that it’s not a monoculture. It’s a vast realm of somewhere around a million worlds that spans most of the galaxy. These worlds each have their own governments, cultures, languages, histories, and even religion. The exact sect of the Imperial Cult practiced and the competing ideologies that fall under that umbrella term are all more or less accepted by Terra. Really all those worlds have in common is that they’re all humans, they all follow the same major religion with regional variations, and they all owe fealty to Holy Terra, the God-Emperor of Mankind, and the High Lords of Terra in His stead.
Except the Mechanicus they’re technically a separate empire all their own that is independent from yet semi-subservient to the Imperium.
Point is, whether or not the Imperium’s policies are misogynistic is an irrelevant question. It comes down to individual sub-sectors, worlds, or even individual continents on a particular world.

originally yes but remember that WH40k is born in 1987. Due to various authors and time it's lore changed a lot to become what we love now. A lot of retcons and other stuff happened and will happen. The best way if you want to explain so much change of the lore is to see the authors as storytellers with bias and to remember the size of the galaxy and the imperium.

Some things are just gendered. It's part of what makes it what it is. It's like having a "brother of battle" in your sororitas. That would be stupid and kind of robs sororitas of their identity. Or eldar/darkelves. I honestly think it's cool and makes sense that they would be comprised of men and women. There is less sexual dimorphism in their species and there are less of them than other factions. Space marines are always shouting "BROTHER!"in all the books/games. Orks are always "boyz". Some things are just gendered and sometimes that's inherently part of its identity.
also it goes against Imperial Decree to have 'men under arms' within the Ecclisiarchy.

How does canon of all things supposedly not matter to what is supposed to be a _lore_ channel? Canon is what makes analyzing alternate worlds possible because those worlds have established continuities and events within along with arbitrary sets of rules by which each of those worlds operates, hence the fun and purpose in analyzing them. I'm a tourist in the world of Warhammer and I've only gotten into it recently, but based on what I've heard of this exact topic, it's not a popular one. So I ask you this, what is the point of getting into a fandom and dedicating time and money if everything that got you into it can just be changed and retconed at the drop of a hat?
Marvel, Star Wars, DC, Lord of the Rings, DnD, and other fandoms have been fundamentally changed from what gave them their identity in the first place. Disney one day decided that ALL prewritten novels in Star Wars were suddenly non canonical. A lot of these changes weren't even for the better, just excuses to throw identity politics into fandoms so that everything reflects "The message" and "The world we live in".
Why bother with a fandom if canon means nothing?

WH40k Tabletop has rules.
Its lore is a different story as GW retcons several things like the Guardsman who stood between Horus and the Emperor being changed from a regular human to a perpetual or the Squats being brought back even though they were ignored for the longest. Or the fact that the Emperor had children called Sensei out in the galaxy but that also got retconned.
40k is one of the most consistent verses that have been written. That’s the exact reason why it’s so popular

If canon doesn’t matters then stuff like the sequels, rings of power, the Halo series, Netflix’s Resident Evil and Netflix’s The Witcher should be considered masterpieces. But they aren’t. Why? Because they ignored canon. The sequels were anti-prequel trilogy and Rian Johnson wanted to do a Viking funeral to Star Wars as a whole. In a universe as horrible as 40ks you'd never have a human group willingly throw fertile women into a relentless meat grinder when you could have them making more and more soldiers. 1 man surrounded by 10 women can make 10 babies in one pregnancy timeframe - 1 woman with 10 men can make 1 baby in the same amount of time. It doesn't even matter whether a woman could in theory fight similarly to the men. Soldiers can be disposable, mothers cannot.

Realistically, women are called to arms only if there are not enough willing and able bodied men to fight. And that is not the Imperium's situation. I don't think anybody except the most pedantic assholes argue that you can't do what you want in your own fanfics, but even if we take the stance "Canon doesn't exist", it begs not only the question of what the point of your channel is, but also what the point of the entire setting is. If anything can be 40k, why can't Mortarion be a stinky Melancholic housewife, or better, Brothers of Battle.
Ultimately, you can make the argument Canon is versatile and is prone to retcons, but it certainly exists as something important to keeping the entire foundation of the series together and making it something more then just a corporate controlled SCP wiki.
Its better to view Canon as a rock the series and fan works are latched too rather then Dogmatic scripture that needs to be followed, but if you start straying from the rock of Canon, you fundamentally stop being 40k

The point of this channel and the point of the 40k setting is entertainment, to what degree you adhere to canon doesn't do anything to change that.
Fundamentally though I don't really buy the idea that Space Marines being exclusively male is something foundational to the setting. It's very peripheral. A foundation-shaking change to the setting would be more along the lines of, say, trying to twist the Imperium of Man from a literal parody of fascism to a faction that's in any way justified in their actions.

Also Brothers of Battle is lame. Just let male individuals join the Sisters, that's a way more interesting route. By the same token I think if women can join the Space Marines it would be way more interesting if they're also battle brothers.
@@elowin1691 I'm gonna edit a comment I made above but basically this is why I think it is foundational to the setting (sort of).
Space marines in 40k at least have that whole dogmatic warrior monk vibe thing going on. They brotherhood and father son bonds are a constant theme in SM stories. They're paragons of idealised male coded virtues, honour, strength, sacrifice (and ofc I think women are capable of displaying those but I'm talking thematically here).
Why is that important? Because we can only interpret fiction through the lense of reality. 40k is highly referential and it pulls from real world events and history extensively. Lore is what bridges the gap between reality and fiction, however what can make even a wildly different fantasy world feel 'real' are those areas where we can appreciate the shared experiences as ultimately we interpet them through the lens of our own world.
Ergo, the ultimate warriors in 40k are men because the ultimate warriors in our world and all our history have been men. That's part of what makes jt feel gritty.
You could change that, but in doing so you would change the tone of the setting.
I'm willing to concede that they've been changing the tone a lot already since 8th... Which imo is sort of why we're where we are.
In my mind there's 3 core groups of 40k fans. The Rogue Trader ppl, the 3rd - 7th ppl and the 8th and beyond ppl. So, someone in the first category is probably big on the whole imperium = fascism parody you mention. Probably enjoys the goofier side and likes the old punk aesthetic.
Whereas a fan from thr 3rd Ed era loves the hyper gritty grim dark of 40k. So tonally they're gonna prefer that the most. Thus as I laid out above enjoy marines being what they are atm. (I got into the hobby at the tail end of 3rd so consider myself part of this group).
Then you have the newer arrivals, who see the less grimdark tone of late. And thus thr 40k they want is different to the 2nd group. As relative new comers they're also less invested in the old and what more of the new perhaps.
I'm generalising a bit here and ofc there will be exceptions but generally imo this is the crux of the issue in the community.

It may be loose, but it is there, so cannon is important to storytelling, it's what separates actual work of fiction from a random space fantasy I had when I was taking a shower.

Yeah, I always thought there was a good balance between the Astartes and Sisters (lorewise).
The Space Marines are (mostly) atheistic and rely on logical and scientific augmentation to make war on a superhuman level.
The Sisters as mere mortal women can at times be on par or exceed superhuman levels of combat or withstand pure destruction based on their faith and will in the God-Emperor.
I prefer this complementary balance between what the Emperor's vision (or nightmare) is to be for the men and women of humanity in an extremely hostile universe.
Much like real world militaries, the guard and imperial navy is crewed by mostly men. Not to mention the sisters of battle fit the role of ‘badass lady warriors in power armor’. Not every faction needs to be co-ed. It is belittling to women to tell them that they can only be cool if the boys let them on their team.
The only reason women are allowed into modern militaries is to broaden the pool of applicants, thus allowing the organization to raise the standards for entry. If a woman wants to join the military, she’s either gonna put in a crap load of work or she isn’t gonna make it. If she still needs a watchamacallit to get in, then at least the military knows that they have someone who is willing to work her ass off more reliably than her peers.

There are perfectly logical reason to why why males are chosen to be Space Marines. The emperor created a race of transhuman soldiers, he didn't want those transhuman to supplant all of humanity, so he decided to have them to be of singular sex. Personally, it's a coin toss that finally decided males are exclusively Space Marines. To add, even Malcador himself, from time to time, grumbled why the emperor didn't make them females, when he had to deal with the petty sibling rivalries of his Primarch nephews.

Except the Grey Knights 8th Edition Codex mentions how over the millennia the Grey Knights commonly had to cull Orders that fell to Chaos from among the Sisters.

I dont get why people want all their fiction to 100% represent the real world? then i could just watch the news all day. Putting something controversial in fiction and overcoming it, is what makes a good story. 40k is grimdark, i dont understand why these people want rainbows and kittens everywhere in this universe, that would rob it of it's intrigue. Most stories have good and evil, that can make a great story, what intrigues me to warhammer 40k is that mostly everyone is evil, and the one shining beacon of hope can bring some change sometimes or die gloriously. 40k having an unreliable narrator doesn't mean "nothing that is written down is true and you should make up whatever you feel like". It simply means that you shouldn't take absolutely EVERYTHING at face value. Characters can lie or just outright be misinformed.
There are certain things we know to be true because they get continually referenced over and over in multiple different sources.
Example: we know for a fact that Cadia exploded and the Cicatrix Maledictum split the galaxy in half. This is not up for "debate", this is just a truth about the modern lore we've all accepted. I have seen nobody come forward and claim "ACKCHUALLY it is left up to interpretation and I prefer to think Cadia didn't explode".
Same thing with Astartes only being a male thing. This has been brought up again and again and again and again in codexes, novels and short stories, but you still have a small subset of the fanbase that goes "don't care imma ignore all that."
If you want to use your own models to make fem astartes, only the neckiest of beards would have a problem with it. However if you are talking lore, you need to actually bring up a tangible example of an Astartes being a woman, otherwise you are just making things up.
