A+E, I really like your videos. They’re very informative and great learning tools, especially for new boaters like myself. This particular one on docking is my favorite because you taught me how to bring the stern of the boat to the dock by turning the engine toward it, and bumping it into reverse!!!! Brilliant!!! I don’t believe I would ever have thought of that myself. Thank you both!! Please keep making great videos like this!!

I took a hands on boating class thru US Power Squadron shortly after I got my little boat. The first couple of times out, before the class, were very challenging. It made a huge difference in my docking expertise. I don't scare my wife anymore! LOL. Every time I watch one of your videos I learn something new. An experienced charter boat captain told me about using reverse while pointing the motor toward the dock to bring the stern in. It was one of the best tips, I do it all the time. Never heard "Steer before you gear!" A great tip. Thanks for all your videos, Y'all are the best!

I'm in Cork Ireland, the second largest natural harbour in the world after Sydney Australia. I have always had my boat on a mooring which is fairly easy to tie up to, get in the dingy and row to the quay. Where I live there are plenty of marinas in the harbour and my heart is always in my mouth when attempting to dock. I've viewed your videos many times, fantastic and very helpful, hopefully I will be an expert this summer. phew!

Switched from a bow rider to a pontoon boat. Previous was an inboard that was fairly wind proof. To an outboard that acts like a sail in comparison. Pull into a slip that’s 10 foot wide and the toon is about 9. Docking Last year was ok but not something you want to screw up with friends and or family on board. I can use some of these tips. Steer before you gear is a great reminder.

Docking for me means, bringing the boat "near" the dock not hitting or touching the bow against the dock to bring the boat to a stop , as I have seen people do. Bring the bow close to the dock and use reverse to stop if necessary, then reverse the stern in...all done super slow. Practice makes perfect. If I just kiss the dock that's OK too. Kind of what makes boating interesting and a challenge.

Great video, technique, and instructions. Two pieces of advice I would give is:
1: if alone use your mid cleat to tie rope off.
    2. Make sure you stop in neutral for a second before going from F to R. You guys did it perfect but I've seen so many people throw it directly into R from F.

Hey Emily and Amanda, your videos are really great, lots of good practical information in real life situation! I’ve been having boats for over 30 something years. I always seem to pick up some great information from your RUclips!!
What I would really like to see is your docking video but my boat is kept in a slip with a dock on each side and I have a hoist to raise it up. It’s always kind of tight with a strong current and they win especially when they are both going opposite directions. Could you please make one of your RUclips‘s demonstrating on how y’all dock a boat into a slip with docks on each side or boats on each side? Will I get some kind of notification telling me that you have answer this so then I can go to that video or go to your explanation?

  • @johnx9318
    @johnx9318 Год назад

    Excellent information, thanks.
I don't know if you realised, but you did something naturally and perfectly on the video, but didn't explain it?
You aligned your boat to the dock with the pivot-point on your boat.
Looking at your drone footage, the pivot-point on your boat is just behind where you stand at the helm, about a quarter of the way forward from your stern.
That is the distance that you naturally or instinctively aimed at when driving toward the dock.
When you turned, the boat pivoted and the rear 1/4 rotated into the shorter gap, the forward 3/4 of your boat rotated into the longer gap.
Some videos will have you aim at the centre of the gap and have to make fore-and-aft steering corrections to get alongside.
Having said that, you nailed it.
Thanks for the videos - lots of great information - even for an old-bloke!
