I think this happens with lots of brands. Once they gain the trust of the consumer they start cutting corners to benefit their bottom line. Bebe is a great example of this, when they were on their way out the quality of their clothes wasn’t much better than Forever 21 or Zara.

The reason I don’t go to Forever 21 is because the store in the mall I go to is literally a mess. Clothes are just randomly hanged on rack and is completely disorganized. I am not about to spend hours in there trying to find clothes that are my size.
I had a similar experience when I recently went to one, it was very messy & chaotic. In fairness, I hadn't been in one for over a decade, but if we both had a similar experience at 2 different locations, maybe it wasn't just those particular stores.
I worked at f21as a stockroom and merchandising manager and the disorganization is something they do on purpose. We had something called “door to floor in 24” where we had to put around sometimes 100 boxes of product onto the sales floor within 24 hours of receiving it. There’s no time to organize or make sure the store doesn’t look like crap. They only care about getting the newest product out the fastest. Also they believe when the store is a mess, people will spend more time looking for things
To be fair with them the customers that shop there tend to be young and disrespectful girls. I've seen plenty of girls drop alot of stuff on the floor and not pick it up. That just shows their true character tbh 😐
Hajar Tamsamani just because they filed for bankruptcy doesn’t mean they won’t come back, all they have to do is close their stores that are not doing well, invest, rebrand, and market in a new direction. There has to be new trends they can bite. I love forever 21 and I shop there constantly. It’s very affordable and convenient.
@@niyah___ they closed in Europe and Asia as well, but America (besides Canada) is still up. in Brazil, for example, it's really popular and I don't see when they would close those.
I agree. Many of the clothes seem childish which then attracts kids in middle school and elementary. So it makes me (a 23 year old) not want to shop there hahaha. So honestly if they rebrand themselves and stop making their clothes looking childish they will do fine
I'm only watching this now... Forever 21 has been teaching people that they "don't have to to" spend any more than $5 on an item while being trendy. Now they are losing at their own game. And they spoiled the market for other brands which offer better quality but still in a mass market / affordable price range.
I think this sums up fast fashion and the idea that 10 5 dollar T-shirts of questionable quality cost less than a 40 dollar shirt - only because the former is spent in portions. Fast fashion takes advantage of a cognitive trap we fall in.
What Forever 21 do u shop at??!!!! Where I live the average price for a decent shirt at Forever 21 is like 19-30 bucks! Hardly anything at Forever 21 these days is less than 30$. Sometimes they have sales where things are way cheaper but not usually.
Stop selling crop tops. And how many times are we gonna like a blouse only to turn it around and has a damn taco in the back?? We are adults, not 13! Lawwwd
Forever 21 is directed at teens and YOUNG adults. It’s not supposed to be heavily mature clothing. And also, how can anyone take you seriously as an adult when you’re username is “MissPuglife” 💀😂
Miranda Raine Thomas lol why would I use my real name on social media? You gotta be dumb to do that.. and I oop Miranda. Lol nothing online should be taken seriously. Go back to bed you 12 year old child. 🙃
MissPuglife Sounds like someone’s paranoid. Way to completely ignore the point of my comment which was that forever 21 is directed at teens and YOUNG adults. And by the way, if you’re calling me a 12 year old because of my profile picture. That was literally taken YEARS ago...
Miranda Raine Thomas it doesn’t matter if they are geared towards teens or young adults. Ppl aren’t buying it bc of the lack of quality and out of date styles. Parents aren’t going to give their teens money to buy a damn Cheeto crop top. Social media has a heavy influence on online shopping like fashion nova and missguided. More brick and motar businesses are failing like f21. Now go to bed!! Yeeessh 😂
residentevil4life - their clothes got so ugly. It seemed like they fired all their adult designers and hired a bunch of ten year olds to do their clothes.
Their return policy is fair, you have 30 days to decide if you wanna keep the “hideous” items you purchased and you’ll get your money back how your purchased it. If you don’t have a receipt then you get store credit 🤷🏼♀️ it shouldn’t take more than 30 days to figure out if you want to keep something or not.
Stefany Herrera - that 30 days return policy is relatively new. Since I can remember and for the longest time, they used to only do exchanges and only for 21 days. And if you bought something reduced in price you couldn’t even exchange it later. They were horrible in their policies. Now they just have the ugliest clothes ever and terrible customer service from very unprofessional employees. That’s still pretty sucky.
Dude yeah like, that’s one reason why I’m iffy about buying stuff online, cuz you can’t try it on until you actually buy it and get it...in a store, you can try on the clothes right away to see if they suit you before buying it
Exactly !! I have a very disproportional body (long and lanky, with a surprisingly short torso) and because I’m so tall, it’s hard to find clothes that fit without looking weird. I need to try stuff on
Ariel Diaz Brenes seriously and the sad part is that they really take the jobs no one wants and then once they “kick them out” and there’s no one to do them their like 🤭
I was excited when they opened in India but was quickly disappointed with the cheap quality and relative high price. Plus the designs are too repetitive and dare i say childish! I prefer zara, h&m and mango!
Im not into fast fashion anymore. Among the many reasons why I am a minimalist, is the fact that fast fashion harms the environment in a huge way and the factories where these clothes are produce exploit their workers.
bbygrlpt2 and it’s so annoying to buy a shirt and after a few washes it stretches out, pills, loses its shape, etc. I mainly buy secondhand or invest in nicer pieces because I rather have things that last longer and stay in style versus having to buy new crappy clothes all the time.
ERV ?? Not wasting buckets of money on crappy low quality and usually unfashionable clothes and preferring quality over quantity makes you a VSCO girl now?
They used to be so good then they started overcharging for poor quality. They’re too expensive for the quality of the clothes I rather shop Gap H&M Express etc...
I'd say Express eat least for men's has better fitting options. It's one of the rfew places my hubby can buy inexpensive by nice looking suits and they fit off the rack rather than having them tailored which is almost impossible for men's fashion. However, the actually quality isn't better. Don't get me wrong I've found some cute pieces but they're all manufactured the same way in the same countries, many of them in the same buildings. They're just better at marketing. I.e. Pottery Barn/Kirklands are no better than other big box stores in terms of quality & materials, they've just mastered knowing what's trendy and marketing to make ppl think they're buying higher end. I worked at a store called At Home. We get some of the same products but we buy directly from the factories, cutting out the middle man which make the items cheaper. They're the same products you find at Kirklands, Pier 1, Pottery Barn etc. It's easy to research model numbers & factory codes. At home store do have a few higher end items which are done through fair trade agreements with artisans from other countries (Crate & Barrel & even overstock does the same). They also have artist agreements through indie artists in the art department so either use their prints for contract them to create corporate retail art. Forever 21 should focus on online, get out of malls & use more social media marketing. As for the lawsuits, I don't care. Those expensive brands aren't for Forever 21 customers. 1 unless it's exactly the same including materials, it's not infringement 2. They're not selling as if they're real Adidas for example. 3. You can't copyright a print. 4. They're making items that ppl who can't afford those brands can buy. It's not like rich ppl are buying Forever 21 stuff instead. It's not like if they don't sell it, lower income earners are going to suddenly shop at Balenciaga.
If they read the comments it could literally save their buisness, who knows how many millions they spend trying to innovate designs and sales tactics 😂😂😂
PATTY NEXTDOOR But if you think about it who nowadays even uses something for more than 1 year? people buy something that they end up using for only 1 year or two... only to get rid of it afterwards. It’s become like fast food.
No returns is a big reason why they’re struggling in the age of e commerce. I would love to order cheap stuff online, but not if it means I’m stuck with it if it doesn’t fit or looks weird on me (which is probably what would happen given they use so many different manufacturers)
Jpakhilka yeah I totally agree that’s why I stopped buying stuff from forever21. I remember ordering a dress for my graduation shipping was like $7. Shipping took over a week and the dress ended up looking nothing like the picture and the quality was so horrible and L was too small even though I’m a size 6 ...then they tried charging me $5 dollars for the return ... I felt completely ripped off.
Frmsjw2 LogCabin it’s really not especially not in 2019 but I agree that women’s fashion used to have horrible sizing. It’s gotten a lot better tho like a lot of brands carry sizes 00-26 now. Where F21(excluding F21+) just has S,M,L and then you gotta hope that it fits bc often the Small fits more like XL or the Large fits more like Small. Their sizing was super inconsistent.
Yes! The clothing was 0% durable but cheap enough for me to buy it! I got a winter coat that actually kept me warm in the snow there for $15 with a coupon! Now I've moved on to thrifting. You can find unique stuff thats pretty trendy considering that the 80s and 90s are back in style
@@dreamwishergirl yeah I guess it depends where you are. Im in a big city and the boom in thrifting is actually quite good because a lot more thrift stores and consignment shops are popping up and I think people are more interested in donating
I remember when F21 was too expensive for my mom to buy me I’d never ask for a $25 + shirt & preferred thrift stores... but honestly F21 back in 2015 was amazing I still have some clothes I’ve taken care of but now the quality of the clothes is so bad. if they focused on making unique clothes even if they’re more expensive I’d totally buy. I’m 22 and I don’t want Hot Cheetos crop tops- I have a job and I want to look my age. I’m not a typical millennial I don’t shop online at all- I hope they stay open I don’t want retail to die :(
Same ! Their contemporary section, love 21 had good quality blouses and dresses that I bought circa 2013-2015 . 2019-I still have them and their amazing. BUTin the last few years their quality in certain garment have gone down, and their inventory of slogan hashtag items went up. It's almost like it became a store of just meme clothing. Before it had a good mix but maybe another company will buy it out , revitalize it and bring some missguided-boohoo old scohol f21 vibes. charlotte russe went thru the same ordeal and a huge Canadian retailer has taken over and its going thru a major under-haul.
I’m really hoping fast fashion die a quick death. It’s time for people to steer away from trends and actually develop personal style. We used to get a sense of who a person was by how they dress, now people are dressing for a look. I think I’ll do a “bohemian look” or a “gothic look.”
Yep. All these people buying at F21 probably don't use plastic straws, yet they have no idea what environmental havoc these stores cause (or they don't care.)
Got greedy for expansion therefore losing touch of reality of what the young consumers really want it's sad but bouncing back to billions is pretty much possible for them they did it once so they can do it again if they want too.
Right? The other day I walked into one out of curiosity (I've never shopped there before) and it looked like a tornado had gone through. Piles of shoes and clothes everywhere, lots of it just shoved haphazardly up against the walls, stuff hanging off hangers or just on the floor, etc. I was in there for all of fifteen seconds before I turned around and walked right back out
Because people that go into the store are ignorant throwing clothes down or just putting bags of stuff wherever. If that's how they treat a store then that's how they are at home. It only takes less then 2-3 seconds to hang or a few minutes just to put an item back. Y'all blaming staff but can't blame customers...
@@igscxo.slimahhbih3215 Those people go into plenty of stores and do the same thing, and yet Forever 21 seems to be one of the only ones that *remains* chaotic. You're right, it only takes 2-3 seconds to hang something back up and refold merchandise... Which the employees are being paid to do... So why aren't they doing it?
@@Ziaberry I can't speak for every forever21 store only the one I always go to, which they do their job. They assist customers, clean, fold all of that. But some stores are understaffed and need to hire more people.

Really, bankruptcy? A store you pass by is suddenly going bankrupt. Weren't they like almost everywhere at one time? There was a Forever 21 at some mall or downtown area. Is this like what happened to Aeroposatle?
What does anything you've just pointed out has to do with filing a bankruptcy or not? Those are absolutely different matters and in the bast case scenario for those assumptions they have a very minor, indirect and non-causality relation if any at all. You can literally have a store with people popping out of the windows and it can still be a mainly loss business model
@Mike G Aeropostale and American Eagle are cheap, very cheap in fact. I'm assuming you think that jeans are supposed to cost $5? Seriously, Aeropostale is the cheapest out of all of them.

LMFAO honestly tho💀
The reason I don’t go to Forever 21 is because the store in the mall I go to is literally a mess. Clothes are just randomly hanged on rack and is completely disorganized. I am not about to spend hours in there trying to find clothes that are my size.
And the lines are always so long!! Honestly I just put stuff back because a $5 shirt isn’t worth my time waiting 20 minutes in line.
Same! I hate their floor display layout. Every other shirt on the rack is a different one. If I wanted that, I'd go shop at a boutique.
To be fair with them the customers that shop there tend to be young and disrespectful girls. I've seen plenty of girls drop alot of stuff on the floor and not pick it up. That just shows their true character tbh 😐
They need to really just stop doing the cute “print” on every single thing. It’s honestly annoying. It makes it seem like their just childish.
laurensimonee they wont be doing any new collection theyre bankrup theyre closing all their stores in Canada idk abt the rest
Hajar Tamsamani just because they filed for bankruptcy doesn’t mean they won’t come back, all they have to do is close their stores that are not doing well, invest, rebrand, and market in a new direction. There has to be new trends they can bite. I love forever 21 and I shop there constantly. It’s very affordable and convenient.
lol they're true to their name at least.
Fast fashion takes advantage of a cognitive trap we fall in.
ooooo! good to see you!
What Forever 21 do u shop at??!!!! Where I live the average price for a decent shirt at Forever 21 is like 19-30 bucks! Hardly anything at Forever 21 these days is less than 30$. Sometimes they have sales where things are way cheaper but not usually.

Social media has a heavy influence on online shopping like fashion nova and missguided. the clothes has gotten more and more hideous and it doesn't help they have a godawful return policy
residentevil4life i work there 🙄we have one of the most fair return policies
residentevil4life - their clothes got so ugly. It seemed like they fired all their adult designers and hired a bunch of ten year olds to do their clothes.
Florecita more like it’s so corny they hired adults to think they’re cool and fired the young ones

I mainly buy secondhand or invest in nicer pieces because I rather have things that last longer and stay in style versus having to buy new crappy clothes all the time.

presto9000 honestly don’t come for h and m it’s way better than F21. They actually have cute clothes, and their sales are going up.
I love F21, H&M and Old navy
They used to be so good then they started overcharging for poor quality. They’re too expensive for the quality of the clothes I rather shop Gap H&M Express etc...
F! H&M.

THIS. the sizing was never right. everything i ever bought from forever 21 was never worn. it fit like shit
Just show online. I get most of their stuff for $5 and free shipping through their app.
