Can't wait to try this!! I've been fighting this issue for months where pants look great standing, but get tight across thigh as soon as I take a step.
Before you try this... try letting out the side and inseams a little bit. If your pants feel tight across the leg vs. lengthwise from hip to knee... it may be an ease issue not a length issue. Keep me posted!
please please please make a book to draft a pant, and literally different scenario and how to address them. Extending back, etc or even a gusset. I WOULD totally buy it! Your explanation is so amazing. God Bless!
Glad it helped! ...It may also be that the front crotch curve is too low. Here's a tutorial for that: ruclips.net/video/MLcVycwlcvA/видео.html Thanks for fitting along with me
wow. i would never have made the connection between swayback and tight front thigh. I know i'm super new to all this but thank god for videos like yours taking the mystery out because that just absolutely defies logic to me. Mad! Thank you!
You have helped me so much in fitting pants. Well actually shorts as I live in south Texas and there’s no need for pants right now! But I will be starting my fall/winter pants before long and I’m looking forward to using some of these techniques. My goal this year was to perfect a pants pattern and you’ve helped me so much toward this goal. Thank you!
I am so happy to hear this!! Keep me posted if you have specific questions when you start fitting your full length pants... Thanks for fitting along with me

I think this is the solution to my problem! I watched you're video demonstrating how to remove excess fabric under the butt, but even though that worked fantastic, I'm finding that the thigh area now pulls when I sit. Thanks so much!
So happy to hear that you're getting there! Maybe the front crotch is a little too low, creating tightness ... Check this tutorial to see if this will fix it. ruclips.net/video/MLcVycwlcvA/видео.html Thank you for fitting along with me!

If you're making this adjustment to your back leg and you're doing a full tummy adjustment on the front leg, these two adjustments are independent of each other so it doesn't matter which one you do first. Thank you for fitting along with me!
Another tip if you did not mention it already. A shorter crotch allows more movement in the leg. This improved the tightness in the thigh for me. It seems counter-intuitive but the example I read pointed out that a dolman sleeve is more restrictive to movement than a set-in sleeve.
Basically, yes! The vertical line may be a little angled toward the side seam edge because it needs to be a few inches long. If you draw it exactly parallel, it might be too short (running into the inseam to close to the crotch point). Try to make it 5 or 6 inches long to create a gradual curve from tip of crotch point back to the original inseam. Let me know if this makes sense! Thanks
Hiey so I'm really close to finally getting my pants pattern perfect which I've been trying for soo so long I'm almost ready to cut up my fancy fabric :) I think I'm one adjustment away and it's this one but i am a little confused on this reply.. I think where my commercial pattern has the lengthen line is the horizontal slash line, but the vertical I'm not sure where I should have it like exactly and I wanna make sure I get this perfect because I'm hoping this will finally be the one 🙌 I have work in a bit hopefully you see this before I goo🙌🙌😇😇💕
So, if this is the problem of pants you’ve already bought, you have to add to the length of the back crotch- through the curve to all the way to the point?
If your front crotch curve is not too low (another cause of tightness in the front leg)... You can add a gusset to your ready-to-wear pants. Here's a tutorial for that. ruclips.net/video/XmGpr9Ufp2g/видео.html If you think the front crotch curve is too low, causing the front leg to be tight, that's easy to fix in ready-to-wear pants. Check out this tutorial ruclips.net/video/MLcVycwlcvA/видео.html Hope these help!
Try picking up the front crotch curve... if it's too low, the "hinge" created by the base of the crotch is too far away from your body and it restricts movement! Thanks for fitting along with me
Draw your slash line across the full hip right above the back crotch curve. The vertical slash line should start somewhere in the flat part of the base of the crotch curve and end in the inseam as far down as you can get it. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching
It depends on a few things. The size you're working with and the style of the pants you are making. At a minimum for size 14 ish (That's my size), I generally have about 2"- 3" inches of ease right crotch level. Then the ease is dictated by the style of the leg, snug, fitted, loose etc. Hope this helps!
:) The exact position isn't so important... Just above the back crotch curve for the horizontal slash line... and just after the curve of the back crotch for the vertical slash line. ... Try to keep the vertical line at least 4" long so the shape of the inseam doesn't significantly change. Hope this helps!
I have a problem and I don't know how to fix it. My crotch curve and length are correct. However, I have too much fullness on the inseam of the pants and I don't have thin thighs. I'm using a tapered pant pattern because have saddle bags and the outside of the leg fits well. Please tell me if you know how I can fix this problem. TIA
If everything fits right through the crotch.. and the side seam, I would take in the inseam to remove the ease. You can start taking it in directly below the crotch seam ... blending out the what you need to remove then blend back to the original seam at the knee. Hope this helps!
@@JSternDesigns Thank you for replying. I did this yesterday and it made a large enough difference I was able to see the next alteration that needed to be made. You have become my go to instructor as I struggle to make a pair of pants that fit.

Thank you for sharing this valuable information is it possible to give me quarter scale measurements
:) I just shrink pattern pieces so that they fit on an 8" x 11 1/2" piece of paper so I can easily show adjustments
Thanks! I need to do this and a full tummy adjustment. Would you recommend doing this adjustment before the full tummy or the full tummy first?
If you're making this adjustment to your back leg and you're doing a full tummy adjustment on the front leg, these two adjustments are independent of each other so it doesn't matter which one you do first. Thank you for fitting along with me!

Hello I have a situation where my pants are tight in the thigh area and I can lift my leg up with out restrictions
Try picking up the front crotch curve... if it's too low, the "hinge" created by the base of the crotch is too far away from your body and it restricts movement! Thanks for fitting along with me
I'm having trouble figuring out where to place the cut lines on the front pattern

When you measure your thigh, what ease do you suggest on your fitted pattern for woven material
Thank you so much, it's for straight leg
How did you plot the placement of the pink lines?
:) The exact position isn't so important... Just above the back crotch curve for the horizontal slash line... and just after the curve of the back crotch for the vertical slash line. ... Try to keep the vertical line at least 4" long so the shape of the inseam doesn't significantly change. Hope this helps!
❤❤
Will this adjustment keep the inseam of shorts from creeping up toward crotch?
Yes, if the inseam is creeping up on shorts, the cause may be the same thing as pants pulling at the knee
