Streets of Rage is practically timeless. My nephew was 5 when I got the 4th game on Steam and he watched me play at first, and was immediately infatuated with the series as a result. He played through all four of them with me later on. Streets of Rage babyyyyy!
I honestly don't mind when Editor Dylan goes over the games he likes in RFR. It's quite nice. Great episode as always, and Merry Christmas Jerd and Crew!
Man I love Sunset Riders. It's definitely one of my top five favorite arcade games of all time, my boy Cormano with his pink poncho, because ain't nobody gonna question the masculinity of a dude rocking double shotguns.
Objection! Konami's first actual game was NOT Sunset Riders, as a sliding tile puzzle game published by Micronet would beat it by 2 years. Junction, a game licensed by Konami for release on the Mega Drive/Genesis in 1990, had players sliding tiles to create pathways for a rolling ball in order to score points. While it may not directly be handled by Konami, and the reason for the licensing is unclear as it doesn't have much connection to any of their other works, Junction was released well before Sunset Riders would see the light of day.
congrats on the comeback Jared (even if you don't think of it as a comeback). This is the exact kind of show I want to see on RUclips. Short fun little factoids that don't prattle on and on about every little detail. I like how in 10-15 minutes you put 3 different segments to keep it feeling fresh. I'm glad you didn't exile yourself into the netherealm of streaming because I feel like that's the equivalent of the faded pop star doing residencies in Vegas. Glad you're still on RUclips and you've come up with an idea that seems obvious yet no one has done it, keep it up!
Fun little story, a neighbour had Sunset Riders for the Mega Drive while a friend from school got the SNES version. We were all baffled by how different the games were and so eventually assumed that the SNES version had to be a sequel that didn‘t have the 2 in the titel for some reason. This idea eventually spread to all the schools in the area, weirdly enough.
Coronado is my favorite because, aside from the shotgun, he actually gets some plot significance by taking the hat of the Mexican boss near the end of the game to honor his fallen foe.
The _Universal Soldier_ game Dylan mentions for the Game Boy was a conversion of _Turrican 2,_ with certain sprites swapped out, as was the Genesis version.
I was never a big fan of Westerns growing up like my grandfather, but I played the bejesus out of Sunset Riders on Sega Genesis, popping it in when I felt like shooting up a town full of brigands and dueling with Richard Rose. Hell, the Sound Test in the game got more play than some dud games I owned. I knew that the SNES port was more faithful to the arcade even back then, but for whatever reason I never hunted a copy down, content with my Genesis copy. This game being a test of sorts makes a lot of sense considering its differences. Man, this was a really good week in the 90s. Solid games.
videogames always make westerns better, from Gunsmoke all the way to RDR2. Because they take out a lot of the boring, dramatic early 20th century film elements and just stick to shooty gun ridey horse awesome music twangs.
@@KairuHakubi I forgot about Gunsmoke! I used to play that game a lot when I was younger as well (both in the arcades and on NES), but it didn't keep me like Sunset Riders did. Red Dead Redemption 1 was definitely the last Western game I played, and boy did I play that one too. :)
Also, why haven't we gotten a compilation of their SNES Disney games? I honestly expected a "Disney Afternoon Vol 2" release, or something along those lines, but it never happened.
LISTEN: I Know Genesis Sunsetriders isn't as cool as the SNES or Arcade version, OK? but it was a big deal over here in Argentina! a lot of kids played it like crazy, we loved every second of it! The voice samples weren't as cool, but we didn't care: we couldn't understand english (although the speech bubbles were a good workaround!). Also, THAT PINK PONCHO! I swear to god, Cormano left such an impression that many of us Argentinian millenials think of him when we think of retrogames
I played Sunset Riders as a kid with my cousin and my best friend, my cousin was usually Bob and I always wanted to be Cormano. My best friend also wanted to be Cormano. More recently I've tried playing some as Steve, his more concentrated shots are great on bosses and if a second player uses Bob or Cormano then you've got crowd control as well!
I’ll be honest; I’m absolutely gutted at the fact that Jerry Glanville’s Pigskin Footbrawl was relegated to the editor’s corner. That is a FANTASTIC game, and was a staple of my childhood.
If code giveaways are going forward as a continuing element, I would like to see each episode premiering to eliminate people just skipping to the code each episode and to have a real race for the code element.
I played Jeopardy! for SNES a lot as a kid. Since I was so little, I would just type random things instead of actually trying to answer the questions. But then one time, one of the categories was about toys and actually knowing the answers for once felt amazing. But then one of the CPUs got a daily double on one of the toy questions and I was mad I couldn't answer it.
Hope the channel transition for this series is going as expected. Must have felt like a clusterf*** at the beginning but the numbers look to be smoothing out, and once you don't have to double post anymore that'll be nice for you and your subs too. Merry Christmas Jared, Dylan, and fans!
I remember randomly finding the Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa arcade game at an amusement park in 1993. A cash-in reskin of Sunset Riders? Sure, why not?
you know it (and especially its cartoon) might not be as well-remembered as other TMNT wave-riders like Street Sharks and Biker Mice, but it's safe to say it had the best and nicest-looking videogame. Beats the hell out of Battletoads on account of being playable.
Merry Christmas Jared. I’ve enjoyed so many of your Now In The 90s videos all through out this year. Can’t wait for next year for seeing the games that released in 1993.
The irony was that the Sega Mega Drive/ Genesis had a headstart over the SNES and was popular in the West. I am sure that if in Japan, there were more mainstream JRPGs and other games that people recognised early on, The Mega Drive had great JRPGs, platformers, sports games and more; so I feel like it was a missed opportunity to strike the iron while it was hot. Edit - To the point about Streets of Rage 2. While I agree that it is superior in most ways (except the music which I think that they are equal in) that isn't saying much as the first game an amazing game that is also a must play.
Cormano is and forever will be the Best sunset rider and the first level is probably one of the most iconic and recognizable levels in arcade gaming not to mention the steller music.
Look up the fanmade remastered version coming out it closer to the actual Arcade with the 4 playable characters... a guy who shows how to make sega genesis games.. had a list of games coming out in 2022 and 2023 ..
Okay, it seems like the new stuff is exclusively is here now. I've been trying to rewatch the older videos, but over the holidays I haven't had much time. Maybe I'll watch them now after this video.
Sunset Riders!! I still give that game a lot of love as it seems it isn't as well known as some classics. Played the SNES version. Pretty sure I had no idea it was an arcade game in 1992.
It is really amazing how good all these Disney platformers turned out thanks to Capcom's help. A friend of mine recently introduced me to Mystical Quest to see what I'd think of it, since he always loved the different costumes and powers. I recognized the style and graphics as being Capcom's before I realized it actually was their game. I agree with the reviews of it being pretty good
Sunset riders was such a entertaining quarter muncher, especially with friends after school. Thanks for the memories and for the tip that the Sega version had versus mode, the more you know!
I always played the arcade version of Sunset Riders either in the actual arcade or later on, on MAME. Game is fun as hell! And don't get me started on Streets of Rage 2, one of my favorites of all time just in the soundtrack alone. That and SOR3 were the reason I got into music production!
A lot if not all the Capcom Disney games are straight fire. It's a shame they wouldn't put them on the Switch or release more of the SNES ones like the entire Mystic quest and Goof Troop games.
This “Now in the 90’s” series is amazing. Loving the weekly dose of Projared that’s so good even my non-gaming GF likes to watch along for the nostalgia.
Well, I tried to get on my PS3 to use those codes, but apparently since I haven't been on my PS3 in ages, my controller decided it didn't want to charge up anymore. Technology, amirite?
I didn't try any of the codes as I have way too many to play already, but I hope some folks got some awesome games from this episode! Please do share if you snagged one!
Magical Quest was one of those childhood rental only games of mine that I actually got to own and then beat a few years ago after I secured myself a second actual SNES and the cart. Surprisingly I wasn't that far off from beating it as a kid - I got locked on the boss of the snow level where you need to like, grappling hook dodge it as it skis around a half pipe that is the level. But after that was only Pete's castle and the very mega man-esque final boss since you're using the basically-mega-man-in-a-turban magician costume for that. Surprised myself and had a great time.
I played so much Streets of Rage when I was a kid. Only the first one though that I got on a 6-Pak Cartridge that also had Golden Axe, Sonic 1, Columns, Revenge of Shinobi, and Super Hang-on. Good times. My grandma loved Columns.
Speaking of attempts at Streets of Rage 4, there's this Chinese fighting game called Dong Dong Never Die from around 2009 or so. It's literally some dude got a bunch of friends and acquaintances together, gave them some costumes, and shot stuff on a green screen, and is surprisingly funny/fun. But the relevant part is at the end. I can't remember if it's a secret ending or not, but there's an ending in the game where the creator shills a promised but never delivered Streets of Rage 4 of their own.
That was my most favorite Editor Dylan segment ever! I give it a football-playing troll out of 10. Also, as an Oregonian, I can confirm that marionberries (in pies or otherwise) are delicious.
Ah man..the memories for Sunset Riders...Growing up I was a big fan of the Old West..still kinda am, so that game was a favorite mine. My love of the Old West comes from my mom who loved westerns growing up. I snapped that bad boy up once I saw it was on the Switch some time ago lol, reliving those arcade memories. When it comes to Streets of Rage 2 I played Skate the most often..cause I liked rollerblades myself so playing someone who fought while using them was neat..also why I dig Shadow the Hedgehog's hovershoes so much..he uses them like he's skating on rollerblades.
Ok, Jared... You got me! I´m subscribe to this channel and I hope THAT mean you are not doing only those videos. This Channel should have more content; gameplays, reviews... I´d love to watch videos from all games we enjoy in those years... Please?

Streets of Rage babyyyyy!
Don't forget about the remake if you have yet to play it... you won't be SORRy.
Sunset Riders and Streets of Rage came out at the same week, 2 of my all time favorite Sega games. This episode gave me so much nostalgia.
Yo u know there making a Fanmade Remastered version of this game on the Sega Genesis looks close too the Arcade ..
Needs it, the snes version was closer to the arcade, the genesis version should’ve been better than it was
I honestly don't mind when Editor Dylan goes over the games he likes in RFR. It's quite nice.
Great episode as always, and Merry Christmas Jerd and Crew!
Hearing him gush over the River City Sports game was so awesome.
Man I love Sunset Riders. It's definitely one of my top five favorite arcade games of all time, my boy Cormano with his pink poncho, because ain't nobody gonna question the masculinity of a dude rocking double shotguns.

This is the most polished, and well put together episode that this series has had to date. You both are really hitting your stride with this content!
congrats on the comeback Jared (even if you don't think of it as a comeback). This is the exact kind of show I want to see on RUclips. I love Editor Dylan's energy as these go on. He's getting so hyped for his bits and having a blast. Great vid Gentleman and Merry Christmas to y'all!
Be quiet.
12 games in 12 minutes. It's like a one minute review 12 times in a row. Great video!
I know. This is awesome. It blends the best of everything I love about Jared.
Fun little story, a neighbour had Sunset Riders for the Mega Drive while a friend from school got the SNES version. This idea eventually spread to all the schools in the area, weirdly enough.
Cormando was the best, he even gets a special animation when one of the bosses dies
A Marion Barry pie? I cracked a smile at that
Dylan's voice is just so nice and energetic for the show! Always cool hearin' him!
I absolutely loved Magical Quest as a kid, but I never knew there was sequels! Stuff like this is why I love this series.
Coronado is my favorite because, aside from the shotgun, he actually gets some plot significance by taking the hat of the Mexican boss near the end of the game to honor his fallen foe.
Love this series. I never really knew when games came out growing up. There were just there at the store.
The _Universal Soldier_ game Dylan mentions for the Game Boy was a conversion of _Turrican 2,_ with certain sprites swapped out, as was the Genesis version.
That makes way too much sense
Got Strider from one of the Steam codes. Thanks, Jared and Dylan! Hope you two have a happy holidays!
OMG; so much Dylan today! My holiday dreams came true! ❤
i never was much of a fan of Pro Jared, but man, this ? this just made him a must see channel.
He's a solid YTer
Sunset Riders is one of those games that would have been one of my favorites as a kid if I knew about it.

It was always surprising how the random combination of Capcom + Disney just seemed to work but they sure as hell did.
Except for TaleSpin, as I've heard. Never cared for the show personally so I never played the game.
yep
just like square + disney ehehe
Also, why haven't we gotten a compilation of their SNES Disney games? I honestly expected a "Disney Afternoon Vol 2" release, or something along those lines, but it never happened.
Capcom was all about large clean graphics which was also Disney's style so it seemed to make perfect sense to me.
Capcom and Konami were the few that cared about quality even if it was a license tie in
Sunset Riders! Streets of Rage 2! Magical Quest!
Powerhouse after powerhouse was released this week. It's almost like a...
Christmas miracle.
LISTEN: I Know Genesis Sunsetriders isn't as cool as the SNES or Arcade version, OK? but it was a big deal over here in Argentina! a lot of kids played it like crazy, we loved every second of it! That's really cool! Glad to see some reverence for good ol' Cormano.
He's right. The music was farts, the stomping on enemies was farts.
Editor Dylan? You keep doing you, bro. It works great. Love this show.
Capcom + Disney was such a winning combination in the early nineties, for the NES and both 16 but consoles.
Editor Dylan's commentary is amazing as always.
I played Sunset Riders as a kid with my cousin and my best friend, my cousin was usually Bob and I always wanted to be Cormano. My best friend also wanted to be Cormano. "And it's incredibly well balanced." 10/10 b-roll clip choice by Editor Dylan.
Someone claimed ALL of those Steam codes, by the way.

4:30 this song lives rent free in my head. All of SoR2's OST lives there as well!
I like so much this series that I just watched the original video on the main channel, and now I'm watching it again here!
This is a really great show idea. I think we are about the same age, so this is very nostalgic for me. I never miss an episode!

Streets of Rage 2 and Sunset Riders are *great* on Genesis 🥰
My cousin had that Mickey game on their Snes, which they gave to our grandmother for something for us to do while we were there.
Covering so many games so succinctly. You guys do amazing work. Happy Holidaymus

@@joezar33 sweet, thank you, I shall do that.
We don't have TROLLS in football these days. But we have Derrick Henry... Which in terms of raw strength is pretty damn close XD
2:01 FINALLY! Someone who can actually pronounce "BURY" instead of "BERRY". Fun fact: KONAMI also did it in TMNT - Turtles In Time (1991).
Regional dialects are a thing
I need to get Sunset Riders on my switch someday. Thanks for the Verdun code!
I dont understand why i wasnt subbed. Fixed it. Nice vid. Hope the market finds this gem of a channel.
Cormmano was and still is my go to, Merry Christmas Jared & Dillon!!!!
No amount of trolls can save the Broncos this season
Thanks for remembering Push-Over. That game was my childhood!
I played the Hell out of Sunset Riders, some of the lines are seared into my mind
I love Magical Quest. It's one of my favorite Disney Lisenced video games, and I still have the original cart my Grandmother gave me

Sunset Riders is such a classic! I remember first hearing about Magical Quest in Nintendo Power issue #44. One of my favorite issues.
8:13 Pushover is actually a fun puzzle game. I got the PC version with my "multimedia kit" (CD-Rom and sound card).
Cool reliving my childhood though these vids. Seriously the best series for doing just that.
Also, more Dillan please.
Streets of Rage 2 is no doubt one of the best beat-em-ups ever made, glad to see it get some love here.

Sunset Riders has a banging soundtrack too.
First. Literally in my thirty years never got a chance to do this. It's not that great.

I remember seeing sunset riders at my local arcade and a local Walmart back in the day. It was a really fun game. My parents bought the SNES version of the port and it was really fun. It was the closest thing to the arcade version.
Not mentioned in the video: Universal Soldier was actually a port of Turrican II: The Final Fight, with a few new levels and a license slapped on.
I remember playing Sunset Riders in arcades and Street of Rage was amazing at the time, and Disney's games brings back memories, so nostalgic
Man... this was a really good day 30 years ago.
Jerry Glanville Pigskin Footbrawl is the best sports game I'd never heard of until today.
I can't believe it's almost 1993!
Hey, it's Sailor Moon!
