OMG, Eternal Champions is a major blast from the past! I remember me and my old man playing this game back when I was a kid. Out of nowhere, my dad triggered an overkill out of nowhere at the Atlantis(?) stage and saw my character (Xiaver, IIRC) getting eaten alive by piranhas. The looks on our faces that day was priceless! I even remember resetting the game to see each character destroy the sega logo.
I found the game to be too difficult, mostly because the computer blatantly cheats. They can use their specials as much as they want, even if their special meter is empty. There's also how getting defeated sends you back a fight or two instead of having a continue system. The training modes are cool, but it's weird how you can set the difficulty in the training mode but not chose a difficulty for the main game.
Eternal Champions had a cool concept of characters from different eras of history including different parts of the future, it didn’t have the polish of SFII or Mortal Kombat but was still a pretty good time.
Even at the time I felt like Sega over-hyped it. Yeah, it was pretty good, but it wasn't mind-blowing. Although it did have, if not the best, some of the MOST Genesis graphics ever on the Genesis.

Legitimately can't wait for when you guys cover Final Fantasy VI's release. I remember Jared's longform video on the game and how much it means to him, which is a sentiment I wholeheartedly share. It's one of the greatest games made for the SNES and one of the most important JRPGs of all time.

@@8bpianoplayer Dude, just get the whole Genesis rom set and try it out if you are curious. That is the best thing with all these retrogames, so much good games easily available to play. You do know that you can just download them all and that all of these games can be played on emulators, right? @@cajampa I was referring to when they were originally released. I could get the Cowabunga collection and play it now, once I clear my backlog of games.
Probably for the commercials they would sometimes show, but knowing RUclips they were probably vague and cryptic about what actually caused the problem
do hope that your able to continue the series as it makes my fridays all the more better, some big titles coming out for 94 and getting ever closer to when the 32/64 era changes how the landscape of the games for quite a while til we get the want for our 16 bit games once again

Hopefully you guys can keep the channel going. Appreciate all of the amazing content you've put out. Stay Happy and Healthy. Have a Merry Christmas
Man for the 20 mins of watching this video I been smiling ear to ear listening about Eternal Champions. It wasn't Mortal Kombat, but it brought so many new mechanics to the table... Overkills that in so many ways beat the first two Mortal Kombat Stage Fatailities. Some of the roster like with Xavier is still one of my favorite originals of any fighting video game. and then the overall mechanics still feel good to play at 30 years at almost 40 years old now. Good Work ProJared
So excited for the next year of this show. While I got my SNES in 1992 & I bought my Genesis in 1993, it was 1994 the year I truly started getting into games in the same way that I am now. Thanks for making this, it's both inspired myself for future creations & helps me end each week on a high note.
Sucks about the monetization, I hope it gets resolved quickly. I've become a big fan of this channel and I try to spread the word about it as much as I can. For 1994 releases, the first one to come to mind is Shadowrun for the Genesis
Nice '94 montage! I saw Snatcher in there! My all-time favorite game! The fact that this game has been all but lost to time is an absolute crime against humanity.
The memories I have of playing Eternal Champions as a kid are mainly of my twin brother and I figuring out a fair system to divvy up the one third-party six-button controller and one first-party three-button controller we had when playing two-player mode. Playing Eternal Champions with only three buttons was...not fun. Meanwhile, it was a blast playing TMNT Tournament Fighters in the Blockbuster tournament in 1994. Neither of us got far in that tournament, but it was still fun nonetheless.
I thought I would see Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge for this week, so I'm hoping it'll be covered in a later episode. It is the single best reason to own the Super Scope. It's a sequel to Battleclash that adds new mechanics, a second playable mech, multiple endings, and a versus mode where someone can play as the on screen robots that's unbelievably fun. It is easily the most underappreciated Nintendo game of all time.
Thank you for enlightening our Fridays. Thank you for buttering my 90s video game knowledge further. And thank you for adding my name in the "Oh, what the heck..." section. :) 1994 is looking bright with some major historical pillars of video games. Speaking of which... 334 days until Donkey Kong Country... and Happy Holidays.
A good week for fighting games back in the day. I am really looking forward to the '94 games you'll be covering next year, especially Sonic 3 & Knuckles. 😁
Yeah. I hate when RUclips doesn’t specify what the “Reused content” is. If they did, it would’ve been fixed by now, but nope, RUclips has to make it complicated. 🤦♀️
Just that short montage reminded me just how many classic games I remember from 1994! So many there even if some were not my type of game. Yes I was an SNES kid so some are obvious. Oh man this next year is going to be nostalgic 😊
My favourite thing about Eternal Champions is how it has various fighting locations from throughout history and one of them is literally just a McDonald's parking lot. I mean, they changed the logo but you still can easily tell it's a McDonald's just from the architecture, back before they started turning McDonald's restaurants into bland boxes roughly a decade and a half later. My biggest gaming memory of 1994 was passing by an arcade in Montreal somewhere on Rue Ste-Catherine near Complexe Desjardins and Place des Arts sometime in the later part of the spring or early summer and seeing a little bit of a crowd. They had a brand new Daytona USA machine with a large screen facing out towards the street and, at the time, it was like seeing a game from the future. Ironically, I don't think I ever actually got around to playing Daytona USA, I didn't have a lot of change with which to be able to play arcade games in 1994 and I think Daytona USA was a full "Loonie" (Canadian dollar coin) to play, I never got a Sega Saturn, and, once we had a Dreamcast, there were more sophisticated racing games like Metropolis Street Racer, Ferrari F355 Challenge, and Test Drive: Le Mans. My top Sega Genesis game of 1994 was mentioned in this episode, but it wasn't really shown in the sequence of 1994 games at the end but rather it was mentioned in passing earlier in the video: Dune II: The Battle for Arrakis. I also like Shining Force II.
I'm not gonna lie, I thought Editor Dylan's speech was building up to a jokey fake-out, but it being completely sincere was a surprisingly lovely moment. Having the benefit of commenting from the future, I'm so glad the demonization thing was cleared up. Jared, Dylan, and everyone else involved with this show deserve it, as it's become one of my favorites.
94 was def an awesome year for games Looking forward to hearing how you all explain Metroid 3, MKII, Spider-Man Venom maximum carnage, Doom II, wish you guys would bring up arcade games like x-men children of the atom, super street fighter 2 turbo, aliens vs predator, crusin’ USA, Daytona USA, tekken since that gave gamers a preview of the next gen consoles 95 was a game changing year switching to 32 bit consoles
Hopefully the monetization issue gets worked out. I'm really looking forward to you guys going into 94 it was kind of a big year for me. I grew up with my Dad in the airforce and we lived on an airbase in Germany from 1990 to 1994 (I was four to eight years old) everything we had from TV to video games and movies could be hard to come by and lagged behind the US releases anywhere from a few months to a few years behind the US. My family got back into the states in 94 and it was like a completely different world I had just got Sonic 2 but Sonic 3 was a thing, Mega Man had become Mega Man X, and Power Rangers and the X-Men where eveywhere. So 94 was when my memory of games became current and I was experiencing things as they where new and I'm looking forward to reliving some of that.
Happy Holidays Jared, Dylan and David. I hope the demonetization situation works out soon. I guess maybe you'll have to figure out a good way to disguise your commercial clips. Maybe it won't pick it up if you rotate it like 4 degrees and have an animated background around the edges of the video or something.
That activator commercial was so 90s I instantaneously grew an AC Slater curl mullet. Actually using that POS for more than 30 seconds would be unprecedented, much less 2 player head to head
Tony Meola's Sidekicks unlocked a hidden memory. I used to have that game as a kid, but I didn't play much of it. But my dad did. He's a huge football fan, and there were times I wanted to play Mario World, but he was playing Tony's Meola's Sidekicks, but I wouldn't complain, I'd just watch him play and react as if it were a real football game. Fun times. Sad to see it relegated to a Dylan autopilot montage, but nice to see it mentioned at all, unlocking that small nostalgic memory.
Merry Christmas to yourself, and everyone in the Now In The 90's team. Sucks about the demonetisation, but you've got yourself a loyal viewership now that'll hopefully grow next year.
Since the start, I have loved this series/channel. What is "reused" about a channel that cover old video games? This is literally a history-based channel! Come on RUclips, get your act together for a change.
A part of me saw 1993 as the golden year for the 16-bit era. But now, with a year's long retrospective of this channel (and a good long while of me being in the retro gaming hobby), I've gotta say I'm more stoked for 1994's coverage. Mega Man 6 (and X1 ig but I prefer X2+3), Castlevania Bloodlines, Donkey Kong Country, Samurai Shodown 2, King of Fighters '94, Super SF II Turbo, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, etc. These have come to define this era for me, and I can't wait for their episodes in the coming future. Cheers and happy holidays, PrJerd and Dylan!
Good stuff. Happy Holidays gang! Thanks for the fun and well made content. Shoutout to Eternal Champions. I really loved that game for a spell back in the day during sleepovers because I didn’t have a Sega CD lol

Happy winter break and or any holidays you guys observe. I'm greatful for the really awesome videos you guys put out and Im glad you're taking some time off for yourselves. Also, I had Eternal Champions. Larson was my favorite character too. Remember the weird fiah guy? Oh man, that game had some weird content and I loved it. Also, I was never very good at it. :p
I don't know how common knowledge this was, or if there's any documentation on it, but as a kid, I was invited to the Sega STI headquarters in Foster City to focus test something new. I was hoping it was a new video game... Color me disappointed when I'm led into a meeting room with other kids, and they have an "Eternal Champions" comic book on the table. They brough out this device that would frame itself around the page of the comic, and it would read the comic for you, with a narrator and voice acted dialogue. Seeing Eternal Champions reminded me of this, and I don't know if any other people really know about this since it was never released.
Got to love the 90's commercials more interested in being edgy than in showing what the heck are they actually selling. That Eternal Champion's one could barely force itself to show like 10 seconds of the game. Hope you all have a happy holidays. EDIT: 13:33 Not being a fighting game connoisseur, I was kinda amused (yet not surprised) when seeing that Mai Shiranui has an aerial attack in which she dives boobs first into the enemy's face.

Don't you just hate it when your channel is doing so well and all of a sudden, RUclips is like, "Now, hold on one second there, son! Are you reusing content? That's a paddlin'."
Thank you to everyone at Nit90s for another stellar year, and here's hoping RUclips gets its head out of its own a...lgorithm long enough to make sure it doesn't lose one of its best new channels!
I love what you guys are doing. I get to see games I never heard of, or forgot about. I hope YT fixes this, and for the channel to gain tremendous momentum. Happy New Year.
Fingers crossed for the return of monetization. This channel is hands down my favorite thing. I absolutely love reliving when games came out. Have a wonderful holiday off and I will hope to see a community post update for monetization soon!
Thank God I was afraid the show would be cancelled I just hate that I'm so broke and cant donate to your Patreon but I'll support you guys to the finish
Trust me, just watching supports them more than you know.
@@Halloweenowl True
A very Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to Jared, Dylan and all the Now In The 90s fans. Looking forward to new videos and know the monetization issue will be resolved in no time.
Legitimately can't wait for when you guys cover Final Fantasy VI's release. I remember Jared's longform video on the game and how much it means to him, which is a sentiment I wholeheartedly share. It's one of the greatest games made for the SNES and one of the most important JRPGs of all time.
It's so nice to see so many people feel the same way I have since that game came out. Same with Illusion of Gaia. SNES was a great gen for RPGs
Final Fantasy VI is Overrated
@@kingslayer2999 Such incredible insight! My God... I need to re-evaluate my entire life as a gamer based on that. Thank you, random Internet person! If I could impose upon you for a bit more wisdom, though? Could you do me the favor of performing a Google search to see if we can figure out who asked?
@@kingslayer2999 That's it, you're getting Vanish-Doomed!
@@kingslayer2999overrated, in my mind, means a game got credit for something it did not do.
For instance FF7 is overrated because many people are of the mistaken idea that it’s “the fist videogame where a main character died”.
FF6 is in no way overrated.
The SNES version of TMNT Tournament fighters was always a favourite of mine. A fun little fact about it is the game actually still has a bit of a competitive scene to this day, as there's sometimes side tournaments of it at fighting game events such as EVO or Combo Breaker.
I believe my uncle still has his copy
To ProJared and Editor Dylan, even if the channel is going to rough times, i still love it and i'm pretty sure and i'm not the only one, so hang in there guys, we all know (or at least think) that you guys will come on top at the end of the day, nevertheless, i wish you both a very Merry Christmas full of blessings and a very successful and Happy New Year 2024, see you around next year but NOW IN THE 90s, happy holidays guys.
Merry Christmas to all, I love this channel, I hope it can continue, I look forward for a new episode every Friday. I started watching on my birthday March 11th and cought on 1993 quickly then I would watch the 93 episode on Friday and the 92 episode on Thursday on Saturday.
Sucks about the demonetisation but thanks a lot for Now in the 90's, one of my favourite shows to see on friday. AND unfortunately mario's time machine is 20 minutes im never getting back
Happy Holidays!
Really hope your monitization gets sorted, this show is honestly a highlight of my weeks!
Thank you for another year of awesome fun, and I hope we’ll see you next year as well!
Hoping the channel will continue in 2024!
Merry christmas and a Happy New Year for all of you, Jared, Dylan and David!
This is by far my favorite youtube show/channel EVER.
Let's be honest... Dylan, is the saving Grace of this channel. Jared, you're great, but... Dylan is the most crucial and powerful part of this channel. Amazing. Thank you... love you both. 🙏❤️
I wish you all a happy new year and to keep doing your amazing work!
I'm really looking forward to seeing you guys cover Sonic 3&K, Mega Man X, and Final Fantasy VI! Have a happy holidays!
Same here
TMNT Tournament Fighters for SNES is really good. The graphics and music were fantastic, the gameplay was amazing. One of the best fighting games for the SNES
No it isn't ChatGPT
I really enjoyed TMNT Tournament Fighters on the SNES. Never got to play the Genesis version.
@@8bpianoplayer Dude, just get the whole Genesis rom set and try it out if you are curious. That is the best thing with all these retrogames, so much good games easily available to play.
You do know that you can just download them all and that all of these games can be played on emulators, right?
Just to be clear I wrote this, because you said "got to play" and that made it sound like you maybe did not know how easy it is to play these games now.
@@cajampa I was referring to when they were originally released. I could get the Cowabunga collection and play it now, once I clear my backlog of games.
Is the monetization thing due to sports games?
If that's the case, I say we just forget they ever happened!
Thank you guys for keeping this going!
Probably for the commercials they would sometimes show, but knowing RUclips they were probably vague and cryptic about what actually caused the problem
@@emi_later And to think that RUclips's only this vague because they don't want creatives to know where the edge is...
Probably due to Jared being a kiddie diddler...
do hope that your able to continue the series as it makes my fridays all the more better, some big titles coming out for 94 and getting ever closer to when the 32/64 era changes how the landscape of the games for quite a while til we get the want for our 16 bit games once again
I really hope the monetization issue gets sorted out, this channel has been fantastic 💙
this is the best thing on youtube right now. no click baits, no BEGGING for money, straight to the point TOTTALY NOSTALGIC for us 90's gamers, projared is the best gaming youtuber personality right now and you can see how he loves the games he talks about as much as we do, thank you for your service and NEXT YEAR i hope to see everyone here in the comments going NUTS everytime a personal favorite game is featured in now in the 90's. i hope everyone have an AWESOME christmas and happy new year full of video games and peace of mind. i love you guys, thanks for everything
Does Dylan write his sections or do Jared and David write it? Those sections have been killer.
Stars above I love this show. I look forward to it every Friday. Happy holidays, boys. Have a helluva good time.
Calling it now, the Super Metroid video is going to be the most viewed episode you'll probably ever do.
Eternal Champions was my farvorite fighting game when I was a kid. Must have been one of yours as well. I've seen it on your shelf for almost every video you have.
Really hopin YT realizes it screwed up and the channel continues, cuz this channel ROCKS! Thanks for all the videos!
Keep it up, guys! This channel is a real labor of love and it shows in every single video. Don't give up!
So excited for the next year of this show. While I got my SNES in 1992 & I bought my Genesis in 1993, it was 1994 the year I truly started getting into games in the same way that I am now.
Thanks for making this, it's both inspired myself for future creations & helps me end each week on a high note.
Super fun way to end the 1993 year of now in the 90s! Thanks for all your hard work.
Sucks about the monetization, I hope it gets resolved quickly. I've become a big fan of this channel and I try to spread the word about it as much as I can. For 1994 releases, the first one to come to mind is Shadowrun for the Genesis
RUclips better re-monitize y'all you're the best part of fridays
Thank you Jared, Dylan and staff. I love the show, happy holidays and '94 BABY LET'S GOOOOO
Eternal Champions, also sampled by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
I love Bone Thugs-N-Harmony.
1994 is looking bright with some major historical pillars of video games. Speaking of which...
334 days until Donkey Kong Country... and Happy Holidays.
Thanks for Everything guys! This channel gives me so much joy. Hope your appeal is successful. Merry Christmas
Great outro, see you guys next year!
A good week for fighting games back in the day.
I am really looking forward to the '94 games you'll be covering next year, especially Sonic 3 & Knuckles. 😁
“Reused content?” I wish they had to tell you exactly what they mean by that. The commercials? The gameplay?
I dunno if they’ll ever see this, but I thought that goodbye 93 -> hello 94 transition was super clever
Thank you guys for an amazing year! Hope you both have wonderful and fantastic holiday!
94 was def an awesome year for games
Looking forward to hearing how you all explain Metroid 3, MKII, Spider-Man Venom maximum carnage, Doom II, wish you guys would bring up arcade games like x-men children of the atom, super street fighter 2 turbo, aliens vs predator, crusin’ USA, Daytona USA, tekken since that gave gamers a preview of the next gen consoles
95 was a game changing year switching to 32 bit consoles
This episode breaks my heart. Thank you for all your hard work guize. Merry Christmas to you and our community of retro getting-old people.
Happy holidays, Jared and Dylan.
Thank you for a great year of excellent episodes!
Merry Christmas, Jared and Dylan.
I hope you guys get things sorted with RUclips this is a great channel. Thanks for your videos!
Props for saying yin yang, and not YING yang like EVERYONE else.
Since the start, I have loved this series/channel. What is "reused" about a channel that cover old video games? This is literally a history-based channel! Come on RUclips, get your act together for a change.
I just love editor Dylan. Dude is so fkin funny man
I had no idea there was an Eternal Champions sequel.
Shame for Eternal Champions. Really love it's concept and cast, and it missed out on potentially being another ruined remnant of the 3D era.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all the Now In The 90s staff!

Did Eternal Champions eat "Granny Fighter" in that Commercial? LOL it sure looks like it!
12:22 Collection, not Edition.
Also, I never thought you'd forsake the fact that Mega Man X came out on December 29, 1993.
These videos bring a wonderful effort and quality to the platform. Thank you for the work you do.
The Editor is the best!
Mai Shiranui truly is something special.
Must have awakened...many things in kids back then.
Eternal Champions is one of the hardest fighting games I've ever played. Doing simple combos is a nightmare. Special moves even more so.
8:41 That's actually a really dope commercial, ngl.
I hope things get sorted out of you can work something else out with either sponsors or Patreon to keep the show going, because this is always one of the highlights of my week!
They already do those anyway.
Best part of my Fridays!
Same.
hahah editor dylan segments are so great
Ninja Turtles on the SNES was a good time. My cousin had it, and we played it at the family get-together one Thanksgiving or Christmas.
I love these videos. I could binge watch your channel all day. Sadly I am caught up. Can't wait for the new year, and new old games!
