Nicholas Begovich was a brilliant engineer, but to us in the automotive world, he was an avid collector, enthusiast, and tinker-er.
With the acquisition of the Begovich collection in 2020, Audrain is proud to present this stunning Porsche 904 Carrera GTS. The 904 was Porsche's first venture into a fiberglass bodied car, making it lightweight, fast, and aerodynamic - a perfect car for the track.
Purchased from the factory by Nicholas Begovich in 1964 and rarely driven, this never restored 904 is likely THE MOST ORIGINAL 904 on the PLANET - giving those who admire the car a look into the past to view the car as it was designed in the 60s.
And it looks as good as it drives...

I love that Donald still has that child-like excitement over cars. That's why we're all here. That's why these machines mean so much to us. They illicit that feeling.
the word, “still” doesn’t add anything.
in our current world the loss of “child-like” awe and fascination is an indicator of our societal decline. To mature past child-like fascination is seen as a developmental progress as ‘we’ assimilate cultural norms but in truth this not only a flattening of personality but also a decline of our members of society’s ability to create and invent.
The result? As we NORM-alize ‘we’ identify with the status quo and proselytizing the norms exhibits a sense of superiority.
Donald’s “child-like” awe isn’t “still” - it’s instead a visionary growth and unwillingness to settle for a decline into boring NORMalcy.
@@fishhuntadventure That is so unbelievably pretentious that it hurts.
The Donster never fails to deliver in enthusiasm and the passing on of knowledge. 🙂👍🏻
This IS actually one of the cars that made me realize I was a “car person”. Wonderful presentation Donald!
Donald Osborne is so wonderfully articulate. I could listen to him talk about cars all day. The chemistry between he and Leno is priceless.
Fabulous presentation Donald! Fantastic car, hopefully it gets to stretch its legs more often now.
The originality is so much more exciting than a micron perfect restoration. Great content.
Watching this video also puts a smile on my face. The 904 is one of my favorite cars and Mr.
Osborn clearly speaks with sincere passion. I hope one day to be able to visit the museum.
Awesome production values on this episode! Bravo!
Watching this remarkable video is second only to owning this very special car.
All the best from Canada! You’re always a great host Donald and have amazing pipes!
Today your bowtie looks like the picture of the puppy with the one ear folded down.
Thanks for all the Car Joy you bring us Donald.
Can't wait to visit you guys!
This is a perfect example of something you will never get in an electric car: The sounds and sensations you get from an internal-combustion engine!
I visited the Audrain with my fiancé during the women in cars exhibit, it’s a great museum and the people there are so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the cars. Was a little disappointed to not meet Donald there but I’m sure eventually I’ll shake his hand and talk cars with him.
One of my favorite cars, in my favorite color, Donald!!! I have an Austrian Kromag - Steyr - Puch moped painted in the exact same color, made by the same paint maker.
Donald, your Clip on Sunglasses are so Classic!
Mr. Osborne,
You and your enthusiasm and passion never fail to deliver.
Well done..!
Didn't know nothing about this car, I think it's the first time I see a 904. Thank you guys
Informative; thank you from Mogadishu.
“To live in history by driving a car” is a fantastic statement to explain those of us who prefer our daily driver to be a 20 year-old “modern classic” like a Porsche Boxster, Toyota Tacoma, or a Volvo 240 vs a new $45,000+ vehicle that comes with the burden of the payment, high insurance, and depreciation.
Beautiful car.
One of the most beautiful and fascinating cars ever made in history. It has something magic misterious in its essence.
Anytime you get to drive a Porsche 4 Cam is special. Keep on Smiling 🙂
Hello Donald. I've listened to your appraisals on many motorcars. However, l don't recall you ever talking so passionately about one car . I believe this may be the most desireable motorcar you've driven and commented on . A euphoric and seminal moment in your motoring life l think Mr. Osbourne . ? I read the letter from Dr. Porsche , fabulous ! Thankyou very much Donald .
Most excellent way to have my morning coffee.
Great work by all.
Thanks!
Wow... what a great video of an amazing car...
Great video presentation of such a rare car. Thank you and well done Mr. Osbourne! I can't wait to see it when I visit the Audrain!
Donald is awesome. So is the car.
You have discovered Hanging Rock road and fallen in love, it sadly too short, but for that short run, you've discovered what the island youth for decades have discovered, it a fun lil road.....
It may sound amusing and childlike. But by looking at the lines of this car, I can see it being the inspiration for the animators of the Mach 5.
Just an observation, lol.
This is a beautiful automobile.
A truly awesome car, Donald. It is so many firsts for Porsche and at the same time some purely Porsche that is was born and lives in much of a class by itself. Glad this 904 has come to the Audrain's stewardship! Presently, one of my most cherished "bucket" items is Chuck Beck's homage to this car- at $80 K to $150 K I might find a bank foolish enough to let me play. Thank you, and Jay for "spotting" this treasure. FR
Thank you for the vid. Wow!!!!!!!
That is so freeking cool! Thanks for sharing!
It looks wonderfully modern today
What a greatly informative video and narrative! also the music adds to the overall video rather than detract! Bravo!
Phenomenal video, and car, from start to finish!
Donald has forgotten more about cars than I'll ever know! Most excellent presentation dude! Every time I see he is on Leno's show I know it will be great. What a car tho! I been wanting one since the 80s when I read about them in Road and Track. Maybe the reason I drive a 2nd Gen MR2 now?
I was working near the airport many years ago and one of these came past on a box base, white w/ blue stripes.. pretty unreal, then a few years later the Porsche dealer close to the city had a dark green one on their floor. gotta be a little rare..
Wow!! Incredible story
Wonderful opening line from the best-dressed car enthusiast!
Thanks for sharing! A mid engined car with buttresses that predates the Dino, love the look, now its at the Audrain, its going to get driven!👍🏾
!!!!!!!!
Wonderful machine!
Beautiful ❤️
Automotive Royalty
Perfection
good one
Mr Osborne the car and yourself are a 10!!!
Guess this is were alot of Jay Lenos cars might end up great legacy 🚗💯❤️
Cool.
listening to him speak about it, I think all 60s cars are like this, my original Fiat 850 sport coupe was the same..
My 2nd favorite sports car of all time. (1rst is the Ferrari 250lm)
Butzi Porsche was a great designer. The 904 was his work.
In 1966-67, before going into the Army, I worked part-time for Al Cadrobbi (VP Engineering, Van Nuys, CA). One of the several racing Porsche's we maintained in the shop was 904-012. The car was owned at the time by Steve Berg and raced by Denny Harrison. Porsche announced the 906 (Carrera 6), and Steve put the car up for sale, for $6,000.00, intending to buy a 906. I told Steve... "If I had the money, IT BE MINE!" He replied, $5,500.00 CASH, and it's yours. I spoke to my (very rich) grandmother, and promised her my soul if she would loan me the $5,500.00. She wouldn't do it (I wasn't a favored grandson), but I came that Friggin' close to owning the car of my dreams..................
What is the beautiful violin music in the intro?
Donald: We call that smile SEG!
S**t Eating Grin! 😁😁
Donald is a national treasure
The most original is silver/black and owned by Ed Mueller.
John and Ray Paterek did a bit of work on it.
Literally
😎❤
Key is on the wrong side???
"Anyone can afford to buy the Mona Lisa."
-Donald
Could that be "If any one can buy..."
Did this predate similar looking Ferraris and other similar looking race and sports cars of the time?
Donald doesn't loves us anymore? I want to hear him saying 😤
More about the driving experience when you’re in car next time Don.
Just 3k miles? Did he actually race it?
3k Kilometers which is about 1.9 k miles. The 904 presented in Oktober ‚ 63 was used by works only in 1964 and 1965. For works use a six cylinder with 210 hp and a eight cylinders from the late Großmutter Spider was used 220 hp
I want to say the Four cylinder Clubsport Version was only Short time competitive for victory
Design by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche under the Construction Race Chief Ferdinand Piëch his Cousin what more can you get
Less than 3000km! Well I hope whoever owns it actually gets to drive and enjoy it. Otherwise a waste.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by
reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated
central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down
all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From
2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as
exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox
oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no
investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even
created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
Why buy a car like this and not drive it until the wheels fell off? Was the car more man than the owner? Did they think they could double the money invested in 5 years? Who knows? Cars like this were like a Egg, Saving it in the fridge only makes it rotten! You have to drive them to keep it fresh!
Nick Begovich had a collection of many amazing cars, but also was very busy in his work and also lived a mile away from his office. He drove each of his cars but not as much as I'm sure he wanted or intended to. For reasons we'll never know for sure he stopped driving his 'special' cars around 1980. But loved them and preserved them for us to enjoy and appreciate now!
No Porsche badge
Not all of them came with a Porsche badge!
Yes, cool antique, but that engine sounds like a very weak VW. 0-60 measured in minutes..... The excitement here is the nostalgia and the feel, not the performance.
