This series is one of the great hidden gems of RUclips for classic cars and architecture. It would be difficult for me to overstate how much I enjoy every episode.
I wish Indiana got in more discussion on their simultaneous invention of the automobile with Europe. Not only did they have one of the first automobiles, but they had some of the best designed and most advancement in motoring.
Who is going to fill the shoes of Jay Leno and Donald Osborne twenty-five years from now? Thanks, to life, I won't have to be here to ask that question.
It is a wonderful series and idea ,mixing beautiful buildings with beautiful cars is a smashing idea , and the hosts are so non- american in their approche and great storytellers , just swim over to europe and make the serie from here would be nice , especially seeing the houses based on european architecture but done better. Great series and thx to youtube. Groetjes uit Holland.
Jay, you forget the Mazda Miata as a manual transmission. You are right, you are so much more involved driving a manual shift car. You shows are great, keep up the good work.
When you think of how much Netflix and the like pay for crappy shows it’s pretty amazing that we get this series for free. Jay’s great and so is Donald. Together they are awesome. Really great stuff…
As always, it's great to see a proper programme about cars (Yes, two 'm's and an 'e' at the end - I'm British!). I can only admire you guys for the sheer entertainment value of your conversations, but always underpinned by solid understanding of the subjects. So many commercial productions give no detail, no understanding of the car. When I hear our local boy racers with their multispeed DSG gearbox Audis etc. zooming down the road with the instant snap gear changes I cringe. Yes, I know they can accelerate faster and yes, they are an interesting development, but it can't be as involving as a manual box. By the way, the reason some of us older guys won't buy some cars is because they are automatics (Are you listening in Stuttgart?)
As always I thoroughly enjoyed the cars. As for the dwindling manual transmission Hondas Civic STi comes only with a manual transmission. 6 speed I believe. But I think Donald is correct in that the manual trans will make a comeback. Btw... my everyday driver is a 5speed S10. It only becomes annoying when I'm in traffic. So I try to take the less traveled roads as much as possible. Which also makes driving in general more fun. Another great video guys.
ok jay....i heard that trade in story the other day when you had the 2 mercedes on....the 1 were the race car was a original magniesium body car...and the other 1 was a street car of the same year....1952 1953 was the years of them...great story
I miss the lightness of 70-90 automobiles. Even a $4000 Mazda GLC with a 5 speed was a absolute ball to take out on a twisty road. A Skyline is a perfect example of that formula with the added joy of the twin turbo I6.
Those Skyline seats look like a dream to sit in. If Nissan truly brings back the Skyline in electric, it better be a new iteration of THE CAR, but in high performance electric.... Something to compete directly with Tesla's Plaid... Audi is about to come crashing into the party with their car, in the same class. They built a custom version just for Ken Block to drive in the Elektrikhana video. RS E-Tron GT dubbed "Hoonitron".
Dang, the one state on the continent I haven't been to. That's right, even Alaska, but have somehow missed Rhode Island. See my avatar, it and 3 other bikes I've had came from a dealer less than 35 miles from Rhode Island and still have not been there! Boston drivers are that scary...
Guys don't feel bad about the view numbers. Unfortunately there are not a lot of quality guys and girls in the car culture today. What you are doing is memorializing a lot of car history for the future. Trust me it will have it's day.
Actually, the 25 year exemption no longer applies in Rhode Island, Maine, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey. Their DOTs have been revoking registrations of privately imported vintage foreign cars on the grounds of being right hand drive and not meeting Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (even though the federal government does not require 25+ year old cars to do so and has never required left hand drive for any vehicle).
Mr. Osborne made me laugh when he mentioned the swapped levers. Reminds me of getting to an intersection and accidentally selecting the wipers instead of indicators to which the vehicle opposite was like "is this guy with it today?..." Driving over the yellow thinking your on the left side lasts until you get frantically flashed by a perplexed motorist. I think rhd's are the best cars usually but the gearshifter location is actually irrelevant. Leno is right, it enhances the experience. It's also a useful skill.
Jay mentioned that same Foreign motors Boston story in yesterday's video with the Gullwings. Same $5500 and re-sold for $7500. This time it was a Ferrari obviously filmed last summer. Oh Jay, please stop getting old. We need you around for many years.
Sayings among Stutz and Mercer owners were supposed to be: You gotta be nuts to drive a Stutz. And: There's Nothing Worser Than a Mercer. I think a Stutz owner told me that. 😅
Subaru says 85% of WRX buyers select a manual transmission. Miata and the 86 twins that i see are usually manual and the new Z is gonna be available with a manual. It's not over yet.
Hee, on the R32, I think the closest American equivalent is maybe like a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe wished it could be, more or less, or some other attempt to compete with like BMWs of the time. (Or maybe stretching things a bit, like a Buick Grand National, hot and more 'high tech' versions of personal comfy coupes. ) As for the market for manuals, I really think marketing has self-strangled the market for those a lot. The harder they are to get, the fewer people even learn to drive or appreciate them, ...and making them only available on the most imprctical performance editions of things further limits the market. Especially if paddle-shifters are ostensibly better the more silly the hosrsepower gets. I really miss the practical little hatchback just made for perky handling and some engagement to squeeze some driving fun into a routine day. It's very easy to get more acceleration and capability than you need, much harder to get that nice and relatively pure experience, so automatics have been self-fulfilling market projections that way. Makes me think of how womens' jeans got impractical for decades, so if you didn't want the obligatory bare-midriff look for decades you'd end up taking old favorites out of the work clothes bin instead of buying something new, cause they didn't *make* em... Then when some marketers see a certain subset of us walking around in old black jeans, they decide to make some more ...but pre-'distressed' and worse-made. (No, the idea wasn't an 'old jeans' look, or there being holes by choice, it was just the only jeans we had left. See?)
Production Manager, I have noticed this for a while,,, please have your Camera Crew and everyone in that vehicle with an open tailgate tested for carbon Monoxide levels.
Nissan stole the platform of the Porsche, 959 and built the Nissan GTR . That is how this platform was conceived 😊😊 The dodge stealth was the first American all-wheel-drive car I can think of or maybe a Subaru brat off the top of my head 😅
the 330/365 GTC were next to the Daytona the most sexy Ferrari of all times to my opinion.Extremely sad you were not driving it, instead of that japanese thing, that really doesnt go neither with the Audrain series, neither the house that is shown.
I like how Osborne paused the conversation in anticipation of Leno grinding the gears.
The beauty of non synchromesh trans.
Been waiting for this one, I hope there will be another season of Mansions and Motorcars.
Hope so Too. 😎
I love the "odd couple" dynamic, but Mr. Osborne has a pretty good grasp of automotive history as well as Jay. Bravo.

I don’t understand how this channel only has 22k subscribers. I’ve seen every episode. They are all great.
Excellent....🚗👀Thanks my friend...👍
I could drive the 1910 the shifter is on the right. Very interesting show deserves more views.
It gives Jay a chance to stay at the Mansion and escape the LA summer, good show old chap.
He bought his own house here years ago, check out the Seafair episode!
Great cars, and another property preserved by Dodo Hamilton. She was one in a million.
Just looked her up...thanks for mentioning her.
Indeed, a rather Post-Modern Show, reflecting the Modernity of its two featured Authors
.
This could be the only show ever in which I’ll watch the intro. Every. Time.
Watching Leno drive and be impressed by a mint stock R32 GT-R is such a treat
Brilliant. Please, another year
Beautiful Newport.
Great Show Great People Even greater Car's 🚗👌❤️ Migwech 🔥

There is that same feeling of FASTNESS as you said in MG, on a road bicycle.
Merry Christmas to Jay and Donald !
Jay, you forget the Mazda Miata as a manual transmission. You are right, you are so much more involved driving a manual shift car. You shows are great, keep up the good work.
Definitely liked this one..........great episode..........
Another Lesson from the professors. Thanks for another wonderful season, see you next time!!!

I'm very surprised to see an r32 here. Surprised, but also excited. Jdm cars are where most of my knowledge resides. Great episode.
Jay a true motorhead with a stained t-shirt
What a wonderful series....the two most passionate car guys on earth. Waiting for the next season!
Nissan skyline. Gran Turismo. My favorite. If it was Jay's car he would put the pedal to the metal. Lol.👍🤑🍷🤠👍
So enjoyed this episode and this season. Truly hope there is a Season 3!
Always entertaining 😁👍
Can't wait for the next one 🤠✌💙
Very nice conversation! Great show!
JLG should have a link with this channel to improve traffic, both ways!

Loved the episode. Thanks for making them!
Ford Mustangs still have a manual.
Great house and great cars! A very well done video gentlemen. Thank you!
Another very informative , relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable show from the dynamic duo . Thankyou Donald and Thankyou Jay. Seasons Greetings .
I love timeless anything! 😊

Wow that mansion looks fantastic, talk about a beautiful location

2:31 I think De Dion Bouton used the transaxle configuration before Stutz did on this American Underslung model.
I have seen them drive by me a few times while chilling at Brenton Point.
The JAY D M episode.
Another great episode! I’m learning so much in these episodes! I aspire to make this quality content on my channel.
Dang, the one state on the continent I haven't been to. That's right, even Alaska, but have somehow missed Rhode Island.

Slow relaxed informative...a proper car show with no hollywood ADHD and jumping around.
Jay learned a new word. Modernity.
Leno-Osborne..??...um..Osborne-Leno coefficient of modernity scale from 1 to 100 ? More info please. lol. Enjoyed the video.
Nice to see Al Fresco back.😂
Our favorite!
those wooden wheels are a bit risky , my 02, almost never hear of a metal wheel failing, but these.
Love this segment gentlemen...do you think there were any paved roads in Newport in 1910?
Whenever I see Jay driving a car like this I can only think how he makes it to not screw up with the gears or accelerating instead of braking
Jay, don't grind the trans gears. Double clutch!

Other than a motometer, who invented the cooling system thermostat? When please? Thanks from Thailand Paul

THE NEW FORD FULL SIZE BRONCO HAS A MANUAL... SUBARU WRX/WRXSTI IS MANUAL...
The Skyline was that good in the Australian touring car championship they changed the rules so it couldn't race
My daughter drives a 2022 6 speed Honda.
I’m surprised that Jay didn’t mention anything about cigarette lighters or ashtrays in the Ferrari lol.
or the MP1 ...
@@donc-m4900 or even in the GT-R.

Jay told the same "bought for $5500 and sold it $7000+" story about a 300sl Gullwing on his channel. Strange.
A 370z makes 350hp and isnt big
