Could watch Leno & Osborne for hours... The automotive hobby in Spades. .. Thanx. Tour walked the Porsche AG Zuffenhausen grounds during the initial MB 500E assembly. .. Shown was the production area where boxed MB parts from the SL model were supplanted to a modified W124 chassis. .. BINGO a MB W124 500E / E500 was born. .. Porsche AG was the ideal assembler of MB components. .. IIRC, the Audi RS2 Kombi (315PS) production was also in full swing... Finally Porsche was having much needed good luck $. .. The contracting work keep the Zuffenhausen plant lights on. .. Fond memories. .. P.S., Within a few years I'd take delivery of our '98 Carrera S (993) at the plant. ... Fast forward year 2024 and the 993 is parked in the garage.
These shows and these two men's efforts are terrific ! Gratitude . Fond memories! 308 gts 1983 Magnum version , 18 yo drove one from WTC down Broadway to Avenue of America's and over the GW to NJ ended up in Staten Island! ❤🇮🇹🇺🇸
My only complaint is the exact same complaint about Jay leno garage, although the latter has improved over the years, the complaint is with the audio peaking out every time Leno or Osborne raise their voices loudly or laugh loudly, it is BRUTAL on the eardrums especially with headphones on, but its even deafening with soundbar or speakers. There is a way of rectifying it b4 or during editing as I've seen a Twitch streamer fix his own issues with his audio levels. Lows are to low & the highs are to high. Cheers
I love this series...great architecture and history with great automobiles and history. The drone shots, nothing is is left out! Plus just two passionate car owners chatting....I just ask for one thing...bring us more!!
Thank you Donald, thank you Jay for an amusingly entertaining look at these interesting vehicles plus the views and history of Beacon Rock. I (like most people probably) have only seen it from water level in a boat. Cheers
Dr Donald it’s was your video with J that informed me about this car, the wolf in sheep’s clothing 4 years ago, the Mercedes 500E. I have owned many cars, and worked in the motor business for 25 years. The 500E is a hobby car, and now I consider myself a connoisseur so much so I am refurbishing the car and building a 6 Litres high performance engine. It’s worth noting there are only around 50 in the UK. Thanks very much Dr Donald and Jay.
Gentlemen…this is bar far, the absolute best show, on you tube, and for that matter, on any venue. The joining of automotive and architectural beauty. Is a one of a kind. I cannot get enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
absolutely LOVE this Series. one of the most enjoyable duos to watch on RUclips. Ferrari did name their cars after the displacement to beyond the 90’s. the last one i believe was the 458 being a 4.5 litre V8 430 4.3 360 3.6 355 3.5 348 3.4 328 3.2 etc etc
What a sharp dresser Donald is! Makes Jay look even more like a bum, but we love him anyway : ) I remember Donald showing Jay a Lancia Fulvia some years ago, that was great too. He also is much closer to the correct way to say Vignale than Jay is. Great cars, great house, great show, thank you.
In 1992 I got a Mercedes 300E twinturbo from 1985. It was much lighter as the 500E but I had to install the 500E frontbrakes. Almost 300 HP, 5.6 seconds to 100km/h. Great fun, I miss the car.
I was just thinking how nice it would be if Donald gave me a shout out near the end of the next episode. Just kidding. Love this episode and the three cars presented.
........the remainder of my functioning heart after 2 heart-attacks almost stopped when I saw the Ferrari GT4. 😢😢 Came close to buying one 10yrs ago, but sacrificed my life, health & happiness fighting for others...hope to tell the rest of the story maybe some day to Mr. Osborne
Amazing film. Watched it twice already and will watch again. Donald, you forgot to mention Ferrari 250 GT Coupe 1962 by Bertone built for Nuccio Bertone himself. It was a one off but still a Ferrari by Bertone.
I own a 1988 W124 Coupe. My car wasn't built with Porsche affiliation, but probably has some of the components of this 500E. I love the looks of these W124, but beware. Mercedes doesn't support their cars very well. Looking for a cruise control module? You may have to send your''s out to be repaired. If the electronic security system goes haywire, you will be hard pressed to find repair parts. Electronic components are not well supported, which makes maintenance difficult. just the same, this is a very cool episode. Love the pool table, too.
I just bought a rare 1987 300td wagon w124 turbo diesel and i know what you mean. Some important parts are impossible to find. Like the overvolt protection ovp relay. Mercedes does not even carry them. Had to import it from slshop. Only place in the world selling the part.
I own a W210 E55, the exact one Jay has. For some reason he’s not into it lol. I’ve been begging for years for him to feature it on his channel. It’s the perfect modern classic and mine has 201k miles.
my father was a Mercedes master mechanic for 35 years and he NEVER referred to a model by using the chassis code lol. I don't know where that comes from? bmw M scene?
Agreed a perfect home for docking your sail … the reference to the Ferrari mellifluous sound must have evoked Donald to break into song - which unfortunately was cut out in editing 🤣
I owned an '87 300D W124 body (6 cyl turbodiesel). Also great car- great torque, and mean growl on acceleration, super solid handling/suspension. Also 35 mpg when diesel fuel was 30% cheaper than regular didn't hurt! Wish I had kept it-a true smooth quiet diesel when driven normally, but very quick when pushed. A solid classic for the diesel enthusiast and such an improvement over the long serving 5 cyl diesel that preceded it for many years.
The "porsche connection" on the 500E is overblown. It's a Mercedes that a subcontractor assembled. The engine is a bone stock unit borrowed from the R129. The front suspension is the same as any other W124. The transmission, too. The 400E/E420 is just about the same car, minus the fender flares and the porsche stamp in the rear sheet metal. Also, Jay, doubt you'll see this, but your decades older W109 6.3 will probably out-drag this larger, heavier W124...
Porsche was not only supported by Mercedes but also by Audi. Porsche did prepare the Audi RS2 Wagon with 320 hp. The Car had a wider Track than the normal S2 Cars and Porsche Cup Wheels plus Porsche Ceramic Brakes.
They had the 968 and still had the 928 in production back then, not just the 911. I think the lotus Carlton, the Vauxhall developed by lotus was a faster sedan, it had 377 bhp, I don’t think America imported that car though.
The 92 500E is by far more attractive than the later model. btw those are definitely not factory wheels, those are amg . I wish Jay and Osborne had spoken about how the car was wider and lower than a stock 300E, they discussed it being to wide for the factory but gave no context.
What your seeing is the trunk gap and it’s not an inconsistent gap, just the angel the camera is place. You can tell it’s the trunk because of the antenna on the side
"This is a fascinating car", "This is an extraordinary car"... they say as they actually drive the car, showing it to be a completely uneventful experience. Might as well be a Chevy Cavalier

The design of the w124 is timeless. Masterpiece of design and engineering!
We agree!

I love this show. The format, the hosts, the cars, the locations…everything is phenomenal.

Yes deserves way more views this is ridiculous.
As a common man I can listen to these two talk all day. What a wonderful series
Okay here we go definitely 40 minutes and 26 seconds of viewing pleasure.
I love this series...great architecture and history with great automobiles and history. The drone shots, nothing is is left out! Plus just two passionate car owners chatting....I just ask for one thing...bring us more!!
Love New Port RI. great cars in a great place. looking forward to drive my R129 SL600 to the Audrain Museum this year.
I live on the island and ride my Harley around the drive all the time. I hope I get to see Osborn and leno riding around on day.
It was a pleasure watching these two gentlemen. Thank you 🙏🏽
Thank you Donald, thank you Jay for an amusingly entertaining look at these interesting vehicles plus the views and history of Beacon Rock. I (like most people probably) have only seen it from water level in a boat. Cheers
Love these cars. I remember reading about the Mercedes in Road & Track when it came out. Thought it was amazing. Such a sleeper
This is one of the best car series I've seen in a long time, if ever. These two men together really keep the whole show balanced and informative.
Cool and 40 minutes!! ....Sweet.
This show is better than anything on network or cable TV.
I really like the theme music , its very catchy.

What great 40 minutes spent, thank you 😊
So classy!! Wonderful wonderful stuff! Greetings from the Uk

Love the series, it's the best car history lesson possible! Thank you !!!
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks for watching!
3 great cars + 2 great enthusiasts + 1 great "Cottage" = WINNING!
Gentlemen…this is bar far, the absolute best show, on you tube, and for that matter, on any venue. The joining of automotive and architectural beauty. Is a one of a kind. I cannot get enough. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Some might even say, "BY far"
absolutely LOVE this Series. one of the most enjoyable duos to watch on RUclips.
Ferrari did name their cars after the displacement to beyond the 90’s. the last one i believe was the 458 being a 4.5 litre V8
430 4.3
360 3.6
355 3.5
348 3.4
328 3.2
etc etc
Mansions & Motorcars, what a great series! Thanks so much!
What and intro, the comedy, the music. = Lovely
That 92 Mercedes is one of my favorite body styles. I think it's because I grew up in the 80s but I really like the boxy style sedan.
Can’t waittttttt
Love this show!
As a recent 308 GT4 owner (but life long enthusiast), I couldn't agree more with everything that was said about the car.
Great stuff, as usual! When the 500E came out, I wound up with two neighbors who each had one in podunk Yakima, Washington.
This is a real treat! Thank you!
The best content I have ever watched on RUclips! period! Keep it up jay and Donald!

This is such a cool show. It deserves much better numbers!
Super super conversation! Enjoyed it very much! 👍🏻
Wonderful video series.
Such a great series of videos!! Thanks
I was just thinking how nice it would be if Donald gave me a shout out near the end of the next episode. Just kidding. Love this episode and the three cars presented.
Fantastic car.

Donald and Jay, the automotive Dynamic Duo.
A realistic dream car for me, as a novice Mercedes enthusiast!
The best!
My dream automobile 🚘.
I think at the restaurant Jay made the better choice. LOL!
great video!
Amazing film. Watched it twice already and will watch again. Donald, you forgot to mention Ferrari 250 GT Coupe 1962 by Bertone built for Nuccio Bertone himself. It was a one off but still a Ferrari by Bertone.
Not a film. It was episode.
On the 500E i did notice one thing missing instantly. Outer antenna seal. PN: 124-827-08-98

500e def in the top 50 for my hot wheels premium case!
Great job guys!
The Dino's character fits its story. Sometimes less is more.

First car was a ‘88 260E always liked the “hammer” version
my father was a Mercedes master mechanic for 35 years and he NEVER referred to a model by using the chassis code lol. I don't know where that comes from? bmw M scene?
@@nathanrichmondhoag1021 - there are two E55s that are different. It’s easier to say W210.
@@nathanrichmondhoag1021 The W210 and the W211 E55's are completely different cars so quoting the chassis code eliminates all ambiguity.
Now I’m hungry for Greek pizza 🍕 …
Same.
15:44 that house is incredible. If i was worth 700 million, i would be buying it.
Great and informative. Too bad RUclips's MANY ads destroy the enjoyment
I own a 1994 500E with 49,000 miles, same color of Silver.
Agreed a perfect home for docking your sail … the reference to the Ferrari mellifluous sound must have evoked Donald to break into song - which unfortunately was cut out in editing 🤣
I was just watching "To Catch A Thief," with Cary Grant's 1947 maroon Delahaye.
Anybody know what sailboat that is tied to the dock at 15:45? Looks like a TP 52, but in Newport it could be anything.
My favorite Ferrari, along with the other Bertone Ferrari, vs the 1962 250 GT Berlinetta
i owned a w124 300e coupe great car

Why is the Vignale bodied Ferrari right hand drive? Was it sold in England? I've noticed a few early road going Ferrari's with right hand drive.
The "porsche connection" on the 500E is overblown. It's a Mercedes that a subcontractor assembled. The engine is a bone stock unit borrowed from the R129. the Dinos, were allways called Dino by Ferrari in England years ago.
That pizza looked good.
Beacon Rock property just sold!
911s, 944, and 928s The 928 started during the 70s so the E500 has 928 tech not the other way around.
Porsche was not only supported by Mercedes but also by Audi. Porsche did prepare the Audi RS2 Wagon with 320 hp. The Car had a wider Track than the normal S2 Cars and Porsche Cup Wheels plus Porsche Ceramic Brakes.
I was born in 86 and raised in cars like these, but I own a 59, 65 & 72.. I think the cars from my actual era have become too expensive 😭
Leno and Osborne are like the odd couple
They had the 968 and still had the 928 in production back then, not just the 911. I think the lotus Carlton, the Vauxhall developed by lotus was a faster sedan, it had 377 bhp, I don’t think America imported that car though.
Torque is where it's at.
The Mercedes-Benz was the star of this show. :-)
Osborne looks kind of like a villain with those glasses on lol. Great video nonetheless
Still cant believe Jay doesn't have a euro spec 6.9!
308gt4!
The 92 500E is by far more attractive than the later model. btw those are definitely not factory wheels, those are amg . I wish Jay and Osborne had spoken about how the car was wider and lower than a stock 300E, they discussed it being to wide for the factory but gave no context.
Wrong, those are standard 500E wheels. I own one
I love Mercedes!
The guy at 1:15, wondering if that was really Jay Leno.
Nice intro 😂😂😂😂
I wanted them to drive the 1951 Ferrari V12 but I'll take any classic Ferrari. Jay isn't a Ferrari guy. Lol🤣😂👍😖
Does anyone know the road where they are driving?
It's the Ocean Drive area in Newport, Rhode Island.
Why did the Italians only do gated manuals and no American manufacturers use a gated manual ?
Ive got a Michelotti ..a Herald….
So basically it's just Mercedes helping everybody lol
My only complaint is the exact same complaint about Jay leno garage, although the latter has improved over the years, the complaint is with the audio peaking out every time Leno or Osborne raise their voices loudly or laugh loudly, it is BRUTAL on the eardrums especially with headphones on, but its even deafening with soundbar or speakers. Jay doesn't seem super impressed with the Dino - certainly he would never be an 'acolyte' for Ferrari.
16:17 squirrel spot
I am assuming their pronunciation of Bertone is an American thing.
Can J just stay in the lines? I have watched and LOVED his knowledge of the cars, why can’t he drive them inside the lines. Just saying
that pizza look liked it was coal fired and actually pretty decent for being in California
Not in California. We are here in Newport, Rhode Island!
AMG aren't importing any cars to US in 2022
Came here (lol) for the porn music stayed for the cars!!!
I’m surprised Jay didn’t go hunting for cigarette lighters and say something about Italians and smoking here lol.
The porsche designed v8 Mercedes V8 E500
Nowadays Toyota helping Subaru and Mazda is similar to Mercedes helping other German companies.
That home has no garage 🤔
Am I seeing excessive panel gap on the hood? Wish the Germans didn't build cars that self-destruct. That's a real beauty!
What your seeing is the trunk gap and it’s not an inconsistent gap, just the angel the camera is place. You can tell it’s the trunk because of the antenna on the side
