20 or 30 years ago a replica was just for someone who couldn't afford the real thing. Now the real things are worth so much money most who can afford them will never drive them anyway. I am just glad there are a few replica manufacturers who produce well made cars and kits for those of us with more modest incomes.
@@hagestad gotta disagree, Ferdinands first super light weight coupe the type 64 he entered in racing was beautiful, really shows where the style, and where Porsche ethos and functions originated. To this day the 911 is still the only rear engine axle layout car being manufactured… chris Harris did a wonderful high short video on it, it’s a must see, you well not be disappointed.
I was actually happy to see this was a Beck which makes it much more relatable than if it were an original 904. I stopped by the Special Editions shop in Bremen (in the middle of Nowhere Indiana by the way) a few years ago and they had a few 904s in the shop but none to actually sit in as they were at different stages of completion. Chuck Beck's son was working on a GTS up on a lift at the time. Got the grand tour and they were very accommodating.
Ahh beck is in Baldwin park calif..his bodies come from bajia calf...friends often see them cross early mornings...and 904 there's enough parts out there to build a original from different clubs
Thanks Magnus ,for just a great detail view of this 904 .There is also Barry in the UK who has been making these 904 replicas for as long as Beck Has, The company is called Martin & Walker, and they are at Thurston race track in England , he only builds one car at a time , his cars are as good as the real 904 , he use the 3.0 litre Porsche engine, worth checking out,
Absolutely gorgeous machine. What has me distracted is David's voice. He reminds me of Stephen Russell, the voice actor for a lot of Bethesda characters (particularly Mercer Frey from Skyrim or Nick Valentine from Fallout 4). I can't help but hear one of those two characters standing here talking about a Porsche. 😆
I was just at the Petersen Museum in January, and they had a Magnus display in the basement. It was cool to get up close with his cars. On the way out, who comes walking in but Magnus, excitedly leading a young kid and his family while telling some (non-Porsche) car tidbit. It was cool to see his enthusiasm. Lucky kid! I would have had a million questions for Magnus but it was the kid's day that day.
The 904 is as beautiful a body style as Porsche has ever built, in my opinion. I remember pulling up to a traffic light in my van right next to one in 1972 in my hometown of Fort Lauderdale. From my elevated perch the 904 seemed to be part of the road itself. One of the most beautiful car designs ever.
904 is my favorite of all time! I like the Beck and would like to own one, if not the real thing. One thing about replica/homage cars, they are never driven by fakers but rather true enthusiasts! Great video
I love this replica. I doubt that there are many 904’s that have been hot rod like this Beck. I bet back in the day the 904 transmission wasn’t a pleasure to shift.
That motor sounds amazing! This would be such a great run-about car, I would not spare the miles, especially in California. Although I think it's snowing around CA today...a real beauty that one is.
What a great design. Being a Ford fan in the '60s I looked at the Porsche entries as field fillers but they always won their class and finished pretty high up overall. They also had the Targa Florio which they were pretty good at too. People always critisize Ford for the amount of money they spent to win LeMans, but considering how long Porsche raced before their first LeMans win, their cost had to make Ford's effort look like a drop in a bucket.
The 904 has always been one of my favorites. A lot of people will say they wish they were wealthy enough to afford one. I say, I wish for a time before things changed so much and these were just cheap old race cars that nobody except real hard core car guys wanted.
A customer of the shop I worked for in Canoga Park, CA from 2017 to 2021 had one of these with a 964 engine. I changed all the hemispherical joints in the suspension on that car in 2018 I believe. It has a true lightweight race suspension, you DO NOT want to engage with potholes for the life of you. A Wevo transmission rear cover can help a lot with shifting when converting the tranny to mid engine car.
Nice video of 904. Can see what attempt was. As a purist though, its silly to mess with the original. Was well sorted already as stock. Interesting 🤔 conversion. But I'd take the totally stock version as it rolled off factory floor.
A Broadley Lola T73b would be an interesting comparison once you have driven one of these as the 904/6 is a road racer. Scared the shit out of me just how fast they are
My father was offered a 904 hill climb car in 69 or 70. It was already switched out from the original 4 cam engine. The owner hit his head in a freak accident and was killed. Of course, my dad didn't buy it and sold all his Porsche stuff. He wanted to go to college and buy a house, blah blah. Damn it!
Sh!t, I’d be overjoyed to just ride shotgun with Mr Keens! What an awesome car. Even if Ihad the money I’d always prefer a well done replica over an original. Sports cars are for driving not hording.

The 904 has such a timeless look
Porsche is good at timeless looks.
@@Holmesson that's Lola mk6 looks not porsche. Porsche made more ugly cars than good looking in its entire history before VW merger.

The stance, wheels and tires look absolutely ace. Just perfect.

Those HRBB steel wheels look amazing. Time to get a set for my 944!
David Keens has a garage only dreams are made of! Good lord does this thing just sound sooooo epic!

my grandpa used to race this car in rallys during the late 60's here in Ecuador. Very cool
Cheers Magnus. The 904 is a cool car, made especially so with excellent videography. Kudos to the production team.

Reminds me a bit of my old Lotus Europa Twincam, delicate, vague shifter feel, weak transaxle. But when everything is working, it's all nice.
Fantastic car..And it's cool to see how in the US you guys love to improve always something on a Porsche..that's pretty outlawish ;)
Very nice 👌🏻

Of all the Porsche models, my first pick would be this and then a 914, of course with a 6.
👀🔥MIND GOD!
Stunningly beautiful. But why is the ignition lock on the right side? Were 904s like that?
bravo!!!
