Another stat that will probably blow anyone's mind. According to Whoscored, starting from the 2009/10 season (That's the oldest recorded season in the database), Messi for club and country has played 559 games (47,387 mins) and has gotten the Man of the Match award in 299 of them. That is approximately 54% of matches played.
His 91 goals in a calendar year stat gets all the glory - wich is understandable because it is an insane acomplishment - but for me another record is at least equally as impressive: he scored at least 1 goal in 21 consecutive games during the 12/13 season. That is the definition of consistency.
Regardless of what happens from now on, we have been blessed to be alive during the Messi and Ronaldo era. Nothing like this will ever happen again in our lives
i think it's impossible to consider him washed... he has just won a major international trophy, kept PSG alive in Champions, creates many opportunities for teammates in Ligue 1. he is not the Messi of old but keep in mind his stats are somewhat misleading: Champions league he offered his penalties to Mbappe, etc
Okay In my opinion this is a really good video idea: Is Alexis Sanchez a Arsenal legend? (make sure to mention Chilean National team). Anyways I love your videos keep the grind goin 👍
So far, it's been looking like the beginning of the end. On the other hand, one should expect that day by day he will adapt etc. In general, all we have to say at the moment is that, for Messi, it's still early days at PSG. Once he plays a number of consecutive starts (and that without injury troubles) we will be able to tell HOW MUCH he has declined -not IF because at the end of the day nobody beats time.. Messi isn't as quick and tireless as he used to be at his 20s, but then again, he is more mature now and he has learned more tricks. Anyway, I say that we will be able to tell if this is the beginning of the end or the beginning of a new adventure a bit later... In January for example. Same thing happened last season: He sky rocketed his form once 2021 came, with Copa America being the cherry on the top. I forgot to mention that Messi prolonged his vacation after his Copa America win, and with his contract negotiations going on, he had no pre-season with Barcelona and went straight to PSG. You HAVE TO give him time at least for him to get to the desired fitness levels, before starting to make arguments about his "struggles" for God's sake. I mean it's true that he struggles a bit but perhaps it's worth to take a moment and ask yourself what's the nature of these struggles. (I am addressing the people who criticize too early)
Exactly, after everything that happened with Copa he wasn't physically and mentally in the mindset for awhile. I'll admit his start at Paris wasn't the best but like you said it's early days. He has 2 years in Paris, only time will tell. Also, PSG basically bought a whole new team so it's not just Messi, this whole team needs to get use to one another. People are only calling him finish because they're comparing his start with Ronaldo's. Man United has more chemistry than PSG despite the many big names.

He's coming back from an injury he's been carrying since Copa America, even Argentina's coach said "he wasn't able to even play the final, he just wanted to do it". Then he received a kick in the injured leg, back in September (first game of the season vs Venezuela). (Also he's returning to scoring and played a full match today so yeah... not the first time this happens to him, these are just moments).
I'm always astounded at the insensitivity, lack of empathy, and just plain cruelty of some pple vis a vis Messi. He's the greatest of all time, he has the strength of character to continue playing even when in pain, he is selfless and gives to others. What is it about the haters that they should behave like this with him? And even if he were in terminal decline, which is not at all true (you have to watch him play. Anyway, he gets the highest ratings often, 8s), it's cruel to beat him up like this when he's aging and can't help it.
@@elizabethcsicsery-ronay1633 There are two types of football fans. There are hose who only go by the numbers, and only count goals, or goals and assists at best. These people are not really football fans. For them it's just about winning. And when a top player doesn't score and win the game, and provide them their instant gratification, they turn on him and destroy him. They forget football players are human. They're not machines. And then, there are those who understand and enjoy the intricacies of the game, the art, the magic, the skill, the passing, the dribbling, the tactical intelligence. Messi haters are cynical winning addicts. They don't really care about football or even the players. They're like spoiled children who demand that all their whims be granted them at whatever cost.
You made a common mistake with the goalscoring record. Dixie Dean had the record of 85 goals in a calendar year and he and Muller shared it until Messi broke it and considering that Dixie Dean only played for England a dozen or so times over 15 years makes the record all the more impressive. Also in the 27/28 season he scored 60 goals in 39 appearances for Everton.

Decline is inevitable with age, not necessarily with ability, but for sure with physicality, you slow down, injuries are harder to overcome etc. nothing to be upset about.
You mean the recent winner of the world cup and world cup player of the tournament and still by far the best player in the world and the best player ever?? 🐐
Ok now I KNOW you're South African, with that "shame man" at 10:44 haha awesome. Keep up the good work brother! Another thumb's up! (even if the knock on the door gave me the fright of my life with my headphones on and all alone in my flat!)
He is the only footbal!er who brings tears to my eyes whenever I watch his dribbling, passing and scoring, especially during his first decade at Barca. Team management, coaching, physical and mental well-being all have an impact on a player's performance. He still loves footbal!, obviously, or he would not be playing. I wish him courage and luck for the day when he finally has to retire. It's going to be incredibly hard to step away. Thanks for loving Messi!
Clearly he aint finished. But he has absolutely nothing to do or should I say prove anymore now that he's won everything there is to win while being the most impactful player on every team he's ever played on.
He might not score as many goals as he would in his prime but as a playmaker, he still plays a major role at psg. But ofc if he was at Barca, he’d be much better
Messi thrives with the ball and intricate link up play. PSG don't do that. So, it's going to take him a while to adapt and start running rampant in Ligue 1. Yesterday in teh 2nd half he was playing more centrally and was clicking with Mbappe and Hakimi and he did great and created so many chances.
I haven't followed Messi since he left Barca, but as great a player as he is? nobody beats the ageing process forever. I'm just pleased to have been around during his peak.
I didn't dislike imediatelly after seeing the title of the video only because i respect you too much and wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and see your reasoning. You put things in their place from the first minute of the video. Never disappoints
I don't fall into the category of fans who say that he couldn't do it in the PL but I guess it doesn't help that argument that he's gone to a league with a significantly lower standard than the PL, with an extremely dominant team and struggled. I completely get that he's struggled with injuries but in 18 league games where he has played 90 minutes in 14 of them, his return of 2 goals is poor for him.
Such a breath of fresh air in the football discourse this channel is. So much of the conversation is simplified for the sake of disingenuous arguments that bring disservice to great footballers and teams. I am more of a CR7 fan, that is because I grew up with Manchester United so there is a bias factor, but I can't deny that Messi is just on a whole new level, not because Ronaldo is lesser, but there it is some internal, dark magic at work to Messi.

(Also he's returning to scoring and played a full match today so yeah... not the first time this happens to him, these are just moments).
That's a strengh of character because he knew he wants to acheive big.
Love your narration 👌🏾😂
You made a common mistake with the goalscoring record. Dixie Dean had the record of 85 goals in a calendar year and he and Muller shared it until Messi broke it and considering that Dixie Dean only played for England a dozen or so times over 15 years makes the record all the more impressive. Also in the 27/28 season he scored 60 goals in 39 appearances for Everton.
the last statement confused me in so many ways
27/28 🤨wow my man u can see the future seasons of football to
@@biscuitrescue9787 1927/28
Messi or ronaldo would never score 60 goals in just domestic season the great Dixie dean
@@mrrubikguy4424 You should say so then.
There was a time where even saying messi would send shivers down any defenders and goalkeepers spine but it hasn’t been like that in a while i hope he makes a comeback
Speaking of Messi he has just scored his first goal in the ligue 1
3 assists yesterday.
🤣🤣🤣 3 months later he scored only a second goal in Ligue 1. Your boy is finished! Pionel Pessi is done, now let's see how creative your Fangirls get in defending him. Pessi Fangirls are the most creative for excuses.

@@hischransen8069 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@hischransen8069 crazy that this was just 9 months ago. What an idiot 😂
So the thumbnail should be change for someone I guess
every time we ask if Messi or Ronaldo's time is over its as if they can hear us
It's mad. They must read their Twitter replies or something lol
@@FootballIconic That's probably the case😎
Ronaldo still live and kicking

"Did you think I was gonna slander Messi?!"
Honestly even if you did, I'd probably still like the video, I mean just look at this little guy 2:42 🥺
It has been a privilege to be a football fan during the Ronaldo and Messi era. When the time comes for them to retire,do not cry because they left, cry for all the magical moments they have created
RUclips suddenly decided to suggest me this vid again literal minutes after he won his 8th Ballon d'Or, they really had this against you FI 😭
who is here after "finished messi" won the world cup, world cup player of the tournament...being compared and even called better than mbappe(who is in his prime) while messi is at 35 years of age...ooof
Me
This didn't age well
2022 and messi is still the goat
The door knock got me yelling open in my room for a sec
Decline is inevitable with age, not necessarily with ability, but for sure with physicality, you slow down, injuries are harder to overcome etc. nothing to be upset about.
Recently found this channel, and have been going through the videos. Great content! I guess the answer now if an even more resounding NO! 😂
And as this video was posted.... Messi scores a banger🤣 can't write this stuff
Even if Messi did 99% of the goal, the 1% from the assitance oooofff a cheff kiss hahaha your vids are amazing
Great great video bro!!
NEVER!!!!!!!MESSI IS FOREVER THE GOAT 🐐💕⭐️⚽️
Wtf is this comment? Why do you write like a child? Goats and hearts?
No seriously, how old are you?
In your dreams Messi is the goat.
@@isa.h.2141 its IRL
@@grilledcheeze101 he isnt the goat because if he was then would want to face a challenge instead of going to a farmers league
@@isa.h.2141 that's right the reality is the GOAT
Really love your videos man, well organized as it is enjoyable
I love both messi and xavi, but against getafe xavis pass was no more than normal, wtf, ur usually so gr8 in ur commentary!
gotta say your narration in every video is immaculate bro, love your work.
Clearly he aint finished.
But he has absolutely nothing to do or should I say prove anymore now that he's won everything there is to win while being the most impactful player on every team he's ever played on.
Love the humor of the script. You have a knack for it.
even if he end his career today , he still be GOAT FOR THE NEXT 5 DECADES , I BET IT
Your content is delightful
you have to imagine he was the centre point of a team for his whole career, moving from that is hard i imagine
Lmao bro went on to win the World Cup and soon 8th ballon d’or
you know those two (Ronnie and Messi) have spoilt us when scoring 30 goals a season is bad for someone deemed a legend
Loved this video. Love this channel and your great sense of humor. Thank you for making these excellent videos.
Messi all the way, all the time!
This will age well.
Who here after Messi Won his 7th Ballon d'Or in 2021, thinking this video aged well.
He is the GOAT, after all.
@@FootballIconic Yes!
GOAAALLLLL MESSI TWO GOALLLL!!!!! MESSI THE REAL G.O.A.T. PSG VS NANTES 3-1 MESSI TWO GOAALLLLLL!!!!!
Keep up the great work my guy👌🏽 you have an awesome football channel
*The return of the king*
This comment is unrelated to Messi it's about the cup pup
😂
Great Video, as always.
Cmon man he just scored for PSG against Nantes :)
Its crazy that Messi is about to win his 8th ballondor
I didn't dislike imediatelly after seeing the title of the video only because i respect you too much and wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and see your reasoning. You put things in their place from the first minute of the video.
Never disappoints
And messi take this clip personally and scored against nantes
Jordan-esque
I don't fall into the category of fans who say that he couldn't do it in the PL but I guess it doesn't help that argument that he's gone to a league with a significantly lower standard than the PL, with an extremely dominant team and struggled. I completely get that he's struggled with injuries but in 18 league games where he has played 90 minutes in 14 of them, his return of 2 goals is poor for him.
I love your channel but I love Messi as well and HE JUST SCORED!!!
3 Assists in a game go BRRRRRR!
Almost as if people don't watch French League and Argentina 🤣🤣🤣🤣
