liked your approach. Martial arts isn't magical.. it's training simple and effective instincts and reactions again and again. People say 'but an MMA fighter would kick your ass'. Yes; in a ring, with a warm up and cos they train 6 hours a day as a job. Self-defence is a surprise attack, with unknown attackers, in an uncontrolled situation. We just need reactions that help us respond in confusing situations.
@uberdonkey9721 Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I couldn't agree more with you about professional fighters and self-defense. Two very different things. Hope you enjoy the channel.
Thankyou, i wanted to try and show why alot of historical stick work wouldnt have worked the way modern recreators says to do stuff. I thought it important to get an over view of Victorian street toughs and methods of attack. So thanks again for your validation, anyway i am pleased you enjoyed it, hope you enjoy the channel.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the humour as well as the instruction. Jihadhi Bob has taken his final beating lol. Hope you continue to enjoy the channel.
I reckon this was excellent, up close and awkward is never trained for and is probably the most useful to know. Looking forward to seeing the ju jitsu elements in the upcoming vid.
At last something that will work in the street my age 72yr old i have been trained in boxing and takwondo and karate but at my age i need an advantage agenst a younger attacker i especially like the stick up the sleeve i was watching a dan bong video on RUclips with the short stick now I know where to hide it best wishes from Glasgow
@alexblue6991 Thanks, it's great to hear you enjoyed the video and found it useful. I think you will enjoy some up comming Bartitsu video, which will focus more on the ju jitsu side of Barton Wright's new art of Self Defence. Also, alternative weapons for self-defense, including umbrella, small torches, etc. Nice to see another person watching from Glasgow. Hope you enjoy the channel.
Hi, yes brilliant video yes poor jhadi, however a geat self defence lesson, a great way to get fit also not boring can keep fit with some fun, plus to be able to learn the drills quite exciting, you need make some jhadi's sell them, lol thakyou for your hard work you put into your videos.
If I recall correctly, Baritsu is a non-existent martial art practiced by Sherlock Holmes. The problem with this video is that none of us walks around with a walking stick or a cane on our person.
Wrong, it was a very real civilian self-defense system created by Edward William Barton-Wright it comprised of Jujitsu, catch and schwingen wrestling, boxing , savate and la canne it has nothing to do with Sherlock Holmes. Although it lasted only 4 years, 1898 to 1902 it changed the landscape of Self defence for ever. Your point about walking canes is true, the whole point of the video is re creating the system in its original format. Thats why i keep refering to the line Self Defence for the Victorian Gent. Though, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
It is CQC for the Victorian era, but the boxing, kicking and definitely Ju Jitsu is still very relevant today, also Sherlock Holmes only used in the books pugilistic blows and throws, it does wind me up when it’s called by some The Sherlock Holmes MA, it wasn’t, cheers.

As an ex non Victorian copper I can safely say, you’re spot on with the artifice approach 👍

Would a rag head cover make these techniques somewhat ineffective? Just wondering.
@URCash Not at all, you can always target another part of the human body.
