Despite Killmonger only being in one scene, Michael B. Jordan delivered the heck out of his monologue, reminding us why Killmonger was such a chilling villain in the original film.
Killmonger is awesome
chilling villain?....
I was completely blown away by that! Wasn’t expecting him to be in it at all! 🙂
Killmonger and Magneto I always find myself agreeing with..
@@Setosama02 agreed, i thought she was going to see her mother, i was genuinely shocked when i saw Michael B Jordan there!
Rest In Peace Chadwick.
It’s been 2 years and your still in our hearts.
hear hear
He truly was a great actor with an awesome voice, Wakanda Forever!
I agree, Chadwick was SO amazing! 😢
Having lost both of my parents and one of my best friends within just the last couple of years, I really, REALLY connected with this movie. The themes of grief and Shuri's journey were extremely well done. It felt so good to see genuine growth and character development in a Marvel movie again after the last several movies have dropped the ball in that regard. I also loved everything about Namor. The changed they made to his backstory were brilliant and went a long way towards enhancing the character. I was left thinking "I don't like what or agree with what you're doing but you're really not wrong."
Stay strong my friend, you shared your grief with us, I have lost family in these last few years as well. Love to you and yours ❤
Sorry for your loss, that must have been hard losing that many loved ones a few years apart.
I enjoy learning about the original plan for the story and recognizing how they adapted it. For instance, I thought it odd that Shuri would just meet T'Challa's 6yo son for the first time just before the credits role. It seemed like she should have already been aware of him. But learning that this would have been the first time T'Challa met his son after having been blipped, that his son would have been born when he wasn't around, that made everything click.
The first opening scene where Shuri is trying to heal her brother in his final moments only to hear he passed on… DAMN! Really hit the emotional impact that most felt when they first heard the news of Chadwick’s passing 2 years ago .
I actually feel like it’s very poor taste to kill him off just because the actor died after one STANDALONE movie in a similar manner to his real life actor because it hits too close to home. They should’ve recasted T’Challa for at least two more standalone movies before getting rid of him. Hell, they should resurrect the character!
I remember the disbelief when my sister woke me up and told me he died, so half asleep I pulled up Twitter and saw it was true. And I was in pure horror.
@@Depth217 We were all in disbelief when we first heard the news of Chadwick’s passing.
@@hunterolaughlin But that doesn’t excuse getting rid of the character. Especially in a similar manner to his real life actor.
I think the queens death was in the original concept for the sequel when Chadwick was still alive. It makes more sense in that aspect. They said they had the whole film written when he died. So I just think they kept it to show shuri learned the same lesson tchalla did in civil war. Which is important for a leader to learn.
I thought the same way. Before Chadwick died, Queen Mother Ramonda was always written to be killed off when Namor invades Wakanda. That way, the fight between Black Panther and Namor would be more personal. They still kept her death after Chadwick died, but transferred the fight over to Shuri.
I nearly burst into tears during the absolutely silent montage when Shuri was remembering her brother. The only thing that stopped my from crying was the hilarious commentary of the Nigerian couple sitting next to me
Now I want to know what they said lol
@@09bonita09 basically the guy was trying to understand why everyone was so upset about his death and why we kept seeing so many montages of him
The woman told him that Chadwick died and the guy said “yes, in the movie”
The women then told him Chadwick died in real life, he made the African “sho!” (Not racist but if you’ve ever been around an African or are African you know what noise I’m talking about) and she then scolded him for not listening to her
I snickered the entire time
Rest in peace, Chadwick Boseman. I have huge respect for him, given that he filmed his biggest roles while battling colon cancer. I liked that they didn't recast him, and paid homage to his legacy. ❣️
Chadwick Boseman’s impact meant the world to me. I was completely devastated when he died.
This film has my heart for so many reasons.
"As you can see... I AM NOT DEAD!"
I would pay every penny I own, just to hear that again...
"DISNEYCEMBER 2022 Blog day 18 travels to Wakanda with "black panther 2 wakanda forever" in honor of Chadwick Boseman's passing I told everybody to go see this to honor Chadwick cause it's been 2 years since his passing & how much he means to all of us just this year on nov 19 I just loss someone really close to me in the TV department J.D.F one of the Legendary power rangers sadly pass away due to Suicide & to quote the watcher (this one it breaks my heart) & the film opens with Shuri trying to heal her brother in his final moments only to hear he passed on...CRAP! really hit the emotional impact that most huh folks... & to hurt more have Michael b. Jordan returned as Killmonger so inclosing if you a Chadwick fan or one of my J.D.F honor them & carry on their legacy WAKANDA FOREVER!"
At the ending, Shuri is ready to be Black Panther, but she knows she isn’t ready to be Queen. So she sent M’Baku to the waterfalls so he could make his claim as King. She will be Wakanda’s protector and eventually it’s leader when the time is right.
She sent M'Baku to fight in her stead. So he is still fighting for her as her champion.
Really enjoyed this movie. It was very emotional and the tribute to Chadwick was amazing. I loved what they did with Namor, steeping him in Mayan culture is so cool
Outside all the extra characters like iron heart who kinda was unnecessary(not bad just not needed) and especially Val (no like seriously why is she here?) the main cast were all very well done, Shuri’s journey to becoming Black Panther and going through all the grief of losing her family was so great, and the film just feels bigger than life which I honestly love, could not be happier with how the film turned out.
Riri Williams is literally the entire reason Shuri and Namor are fighting. If you pulled her out the story, you would have to invent another reason for them to fight (alternatively if you remove Peter Parker from Civil War, the same plot happens. That is the definition of an unnecessary character). If you remove Valentina, then the conflict between Shuri/Namor is just weakened because the threat of international community plundering Talokan an Wakanda is the reason they are fighting. Valentina reminds the audience of that bigger threat
@@TheJadedJames Meeeh, any other reason for Namor and Shuri to fight would've been better if rooted in their nation's relationships towards the world at large and not just The United Estates, how come Wakanda has no allies in other African countries following T'Challa's actions at the end of Black Panther 1 and the whole Blip scenario?
It feels reductive and overtly silly just to shoehorn current and future MCU characters over actually building the world.
How was Riri not needed? It was because of her that Wakanda & Talokan fought each other.
Namor wanted to kill her for creating the device that led the people looking for vibranium to his territory & Shuri didn’t want that to happen.
@@Phanthief95 It's reductive...
People = The United Estates
Why not an African Nation, in fact, keep Riri but couldn't you give her an interesting backstory by being from a nation sorrounding Wakanda like Uganda or the Congo?
Turn her into the Anti-Killmonger as someone who suffered the same as him, but chooses another path!
As it stands, Riri is just another american Iron Man joining War Machine and Rescue, that's just lame and really boring.
@@michaelriverside1139 That’s literally Riri from the comics. What you want for Riri would strip away her core aspects from the comics, which is the one thing you keep from a character in any adaptation or else they’re an entirely different character.
She’s a legacy hero like Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, & Miles Morales: a hero who was inspired by another hero & follows their example, even going so far to take up their mantle.
Fun Fact: Before being cast as Ironheart, Dominique Thorne initially auditioned to play Shuri back in Black Panther (2018)
She would've been closer to Shuri's age of 16. She's 24 now.
RIP to the OG Black Panther, gone but not forgotten ;)
Indeed, we'll never forget Chadwick and his legacy.
The catharsis when M’Baku said “THE BLACK PANTHER LIIIIIIIIVES” and everybody in Wakanda were singing and chanting in joy was phenomenal. I didn’t realize how much I needed it.
Best scene in the film for me. Loved it
I just gotta say, this is the first Marvel movie, where during the Marvel intro, nothing but stone cold silence in the audience, with a few people crying and sniffling. Like it was otherworldly...
You can tell everyone brought their A game while making it...The story the characters the visuals THE SOUNDTRACK GOES NUTS ITS SO GOOD... rip Chadwick this one was for you 🙏
Rest in Peace Chadwick Boseman he'll always be the Best Black Panther
The way they introduce us to Namor and his people honestly gave me goosebumps. It was genuinely creepy and giving off mild horror movie vibes
Such an emotional ride for me. This was really when I finally felt like I did heal much more from Chadwick’s passing.
And congratulations to Angela Bassett for her Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress nomination for Wakanda Forever.
As a native from South Carolina, I'm very happy with the memorial send off they give and how much dedication going to a farewell feature, Rest In Peace.
Chadwick Boseman 🙏
The Siren Song/ Scene was straight chilling! Straight goosebumps as the music started to swell up and started to realize what it meant Jesus!
It was obvious Shuri was going to be the new Panther, but I just wished we didn't have to wait so long for it to happen. And I can't be the only one to think Namor got off way too easy. I know his death wouldn't end the war, but he should've faced some kind of punishment.
Three things.
First, I'm surprised people were unsure who the new Black Panther was going to be. Despite never reading any comics, I knew with 99.99% certainty that Shuri would be it. It felt right to me. Although Okeye as it would be pretty awesome.
Second, I definitely felt the length of this movie.
Third, my biggest and only major issue is that they rushed Riri's entrance. I love that we're bringing her in, but she got no time to breathe or be interesting.
When that's my biggest issue with a movie, it's gotta be pretty good.
Farewell T'Challa. Know that your sister fought hard in this sequel.
This was truly the send-off that Chadwick deserved. Hopefully he's proud of it, wherever he is.
Yeah killing off the character he loved real proud
He's not
Ditto, I read that Chadwick never got to see the script, but I hope that he's proud all the same.
@@oldmandeadpool1064 That’s sarcasm, right?
Not really. They just figuratively tossed his character into the garbage. Not really a good way to send someone off.
This was my favourite MCU project this year. It was really emotional, I loved Letitia Wright as Shuri again like I always do and I loved seeing Shuri become the new Black Panther. I also loved the tributes to Boseman when I know behind the scenes, this must have been really hard to do given the circumstances. I just loved this movie and thought the end credit scene was especially emotional.
All credit to Disney for not trying to recast Chadwick. All credit to the producers for doing honor to his role and the legacy he left.
Rip to Chadwick. Wakanda forever
Nope. It’s just the studio being a bunch of cowards who basically tossed the character into the garbage like Tobey Maguire putting the Spidey suit in the trash!
No. That was a mistake, and it set the whole film off on a bad note from the start. They've recast other characters, including a main-character hero (Bruce Banner,) a black character (Colonel Rhodes,) and a character whose actor died (Thunderbolt Ross.) There's no good reason why they shouldn't have recast T'Challa, and to give him such an ignominious offscreen death was a flat-out insult to the memory of one of the coolest characters in the MCU.
On the 18th day of disneycember the critic gave for me:
18 hidden cultures
17 Imperial fighters
16 T-rex eggs
15 Keyblade swords
14 cartoon actors
13 killable gods
12 hunting gadgets
11 time jump ins
10 broken walls
9 extinct species
8 lightsaber customs
7 CG horseshits
6 untasty burgers
FIVE MULTIVERSES
4 red pandas
3 talking frogs
2 ice craking nuts
and an amazing superhero game for me
Truly the best Marvel sequel I've ever seen. The acting and emotional state of the actors were amazing especially Angela Bassett
I didn't think they could top Captain America: The Winter Soldier (which I thought was the best Marvel sequel), but they did it.
yess!!! Thank you.
This film definitely does on our Chadwick Boseman's legacy and it was a pretty good follow-up ❤️
I saw this opening weekend and really enjoyed this film. It's not my favorite for phase 4 that goes to either Shang Chi or Multiverse Of Madness but it's in my favorites list for MCU films. It was gonna be an insanely tough task to make Wakanda Forever better than the 1st Black Panther without T'challa but in the end I would say this is a worthy sequel. Namor was honestly my favorite part if the film and the performance was amazing
I think this was a very good tribute to both T'Challa and Chadwick Boseman and Letitia Wright was amazing as Shuri. You can see her character going trough the different stages of grief throughout the movie, as well her struggle between the scientist within her and the spiritual side of her culture. The scene between her and Killmonger was especailly good.
The day this film came to theaters Kevin Conroy passed away from the same thing Chadwick Boseman did. After a long battle with cancer only close friend and family knew about.
DO people seriously want people to stay quiet about their illnesses?
@@suzygirl1843 Unfortunately yes
In the case of actors, it might even be a business move. I mean if you sign a contract (as most if not all actors do) usually they tend to be lengthy. Trying to ensure an actor’s time is used without any other conflicts hampering future production.
So an actor might not want to divulge any serious issues they may face, as it may actually impact what offers they receive in the future. Not saying that’s the case with Chadwick or Conroy as both had long standing deals already in place. Just suggesting that that may be a factor in the industry overall.
@@someonerandom8552 No, like these people are PRAISING these guys for suffering alone. BOTH Robin Williams & Jason David Frank committed suicide. They were BELOVED to their fans. If they had said something, perhaps we could've expressed some concern and DONE something to help them. Suffering alone for men is a sure way to die as they are afraid to look "weak".
@3:32-@3:53 I feel the same way. I think it's because unlike Namor, Killmonger more directly suffered the effects of colonization (he grew up in a racially segregated bad neighborhood, the Wakandan king orphaned and abandoned him to hide from future colonizers). Meanwhile Namor just watched people suffering from afar and hates the surface mainly because of what his mom told him.
Probably the best Marvel movie this year. I especially liked how they paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman.
Buster: "CHANNEL AWESOME FOREVER."
Lloyd: "How dare you! Namor promised us fish if we follow him."
This movie was amazing and I will stand by that always, Ramonda's death was also super necessary for Shuri's charachter. For her the worst possible thing that could've happend is that she lost her only remaining family member, you needed to believe She's really been pushed to the breaking point by the time she fights Namor as Black Panther. And frankly I think it was actually pretty ballsy to do it in the same movie as the one dealing with Chadwick's passing. I also really loved that the consequences of letting Killmonger take the throne carried over into this movie and also that Ramonda straight up calls everyone responsible out for it.
Yep about Ramonda being mad at Okoye for siding with Killmonger. That is why it wouldn't have made sense for Okoye to become the Black Panther. There is no way Ramonda would have allowed her to be given the herb.
Right next to Spider-Man: No Way Home, this is one of the two best movies in Phase Four. I'm glad it ended the phase on a good note. Let's hope Phase Five is better, especially with Marvel Studios trying to improve.
Haha that's hilarious. Shows how terrible phase 4 is. Marvel is on life support.
I think for how much was behind the scenes and Chadwick passing, this could have gone down another route and could have been bad under a different director. This was one of my favorite films this year and I'm excited to see what the next one will be. Also won't lie but I was reminded of my grandfather's passing and how that affected me just like Shuri's emotions with T'Challa's passing.
Hope he covers Loki, Ms Marvel, Moon knight, What If? and Hawkeye
I completely agree with Doug's opinion on this.
Honestly I feel like a lot of people just feel compelled to LOVE this movie and decide not to see any flaw in it, just like they feel compelled to HATE Thor 4 and decide not to see any good in it. I'm not saying you have to like Thor and dislike Black Panther, I'm just saying an opinion like Doug's (on both movies) feels more honest than a lot of opinions I hear around where people are just going with the flow.
In any case, if anybody's interested I made a playlist of all the DisneyCember reviews in chronological order by movie release which is a pretty fun way to hear Doug talk about the whole history of Disney and its annexed properties.
It goes without saying that this is the most recent movie he reviewed so far, having come out on November 11, 2022 and therefore goes at the end of the playlist after the Pinocchio remake (which came out in September)
"Can these character die or not?" Pretty much comics in a nutshell.
Fun fact I actually met Letitia Wright while I was in Jamaica when she was with her grandmother and we went on an excursion together going around the one island we were on and she took a photo of my family and the funniest part was that we weren’t sure if it was her or not but by the end of it once we got back to the resort we looked her up and sure enough it was her she was super nice and super cool her grandmother was nice too

the Marvel studios Montage was one of the most quiet I've ever been in a theater...and I saw BP: WF twice...in packed theaters.
She isn’t ruling at the end. M’Baku becomes King and T’Challa’s son will probably take up the mantle when he grows up.
All the characters in this were great. And Namor is definitely one of the most interesting MCU villains I've seen. Kudos to the entire cast for a great job all around.

I think M'baku is now ruling Wakanda Doug! Winston Duke confirmed that on Esquire, I believe!
On the eighteenth day of Disneycember, Doug Walker gave to me: A heartfelt tribute, a Clone Wars follow-up, the best Ice Age movie, a confusing game series, Roger Rabbit 2, Thor’s creative bankruptcy, bad-ass history, Pixar’s biggest bomb, Marvel’s craziest ending, Blue Sky’s first sequel, Order Glitchy Glitch, a Zemeckis remake, the best Fox family, a Marvel horror movie, Domee Shi’s debut, one of my favorite Disney shows, Blue Sky’s first movie, and the best Spider-Man game ever!
to explain the ending, M'baku is just holding the place of king until Shuri or tchala jr is ready, the mantle of king/queen and black panther aren't completely intertwined because in civil war their father tchaka was still king and tchala had the mantle of BP
Aquaman's orange and green costume was impossible to take seriously but the movie still made an effort, obviously that made Marvel feel obligated to do the same with Namor's wings.
Rest in peace, Chadwick Boseman!!🙏🙏🙏💐💐💐
Man this must have been a hard movie to make and I'm very impressed how well it worked. I don't think it's the greatest marvel movie or anything but it is really good. Shuri was never really my favourite character but I actually really liked her in this movie
There needs to be a fanscription video on what if T'Challa was alive in Black Panther 2! I know they're working on their Batman trilogy but I want to know how they would have mixed Ryan Coogler's version of Black Panther 2 pre and post Chadwick Boseman's death.
My favorite film of the year.
I have one hope. That there’s an alternate reality where Kilmonger is not dead, and he gets a redemption arc.
I appreciate that these videos are a shorter format and I really respect what Doug says about how maybe the film wasn't targeted at him. I feel like the review is missing a conversation about the representation that made the first film so important to many people and the bold decision to change Namor's origins to a mesoamerican influence. Those things made the film so meaningful to others. I remember an older Nostalgia Critic review that handed the reigns to Malcolm to discuss his feelings about a film as a Black man. That was a very powerful decision and it would have been great to see something similar in this video. With that said, I do respect the critic for presenting his honest opinion and being honest about the fact that he didn't connect to this film as much as others have. For me, and others like me, the presentation of colonization in this film (and in the first one) made it so important for me to share with my kids. The themes of colonization, generational trauma, developed vs developing countries, and the geopolitics of the film make it an excellent take on the usual Marvel fare.
I love Channel Awesome. Keep up the great work, y'all!
I cried so many times watching this, I was so damn dehydrated when I walked out
Somehow Wakanda Forever made Namor work. Freaking Namor, green speedos, winged feet Vulcan ears and everything- all that's missing was his ongoing Susan Storm fetish.
I’m not saying I don’t miss Tchalla,
But seeing how the comics have killed him towards its own cool story,
This movie seems like a fair time to do it
I just love soundtrack in this movie Ludwig Goransson is genius.
I actually really loved this film. Flawless? No. But it just vibes with me. (Spoiler)
I guess was at the right age when the first movie came out to connect with Shuri so I was down for her to take the mantle
I legit shed a tear when the purple marvel studios logo played
When me and my folks saw the film I almost shed a tear cause this was as beautiful as it could be. The first film is always a top tier for me but Wakanda Forever definitely takes to the next level. I believe the strongest aspect is the story itself which asks: how do we handle lost loved ones and how to pass the torch?
Going into this obviously Chadwick's passing was the main thing on my mind. We've seen how the characters in the MCU deal with loss even with T'Challa and Wakanda as a whole. But in the first film we don't really know how it feels, however with Wakanda Forever we do. Some time has passed, Chadwick/T'Challa is no longer with us and Wakanda and all of us feel the same impact. We lost a true leader and king but he'll always be with us and I really think the team handled this so beautifully and he would be proud.
I know many of us had our doubts about Shuri and (without spoiling) I had mine too, but as time went on I slowly thought maybe it's possible for her to step up if Marvel plan it from the start and thankfully it worked out cause Shuri has a big role to play but she needs to do it for her brother, her family and for Wakanda.
So personally I connected with Wakanda Forever more deeply. It was fun but it definitely was an emotional journey and I think Marvel did it well.
I think Queen Romanda should've been the Black Panther for the first half and pass it to Shuri during the second half when she dies but her death is in combat against Namor not drowning.
Rest In Power Chadwick.
Wakanda Forever 🖤
3:03 Chester would be like: "I HAD WINGS ON MY FEET ONCE! But then I took them off"
I enjoyed this film. The only part that stung a bit for me however was learning in the beginning how Wakanda became isolated which I understand yet clashes with what T'Challa's first film vows, responsibility, and lessons stated.
I was hoping it was a response not to just protect their resource (which in the first film thier own past was revealed to begin with wars/conquests over this metal from the tribes) but out of grieving and turning to what they knew vs what the king vowed to change and be open.
The protection of thier resources was talked about in the first film yet the king and what happened to influence him in the first film had him make a choice to be apart of the world vs turn a blind eye.
Another slight sting was how during the big chase scene and others the main characters are killing others around them without giving much consideration (in the Christmas special at least Mantis calls out Drax if taking it too far and risking beyond non-fatal injuries).
That world separations of the 2nd that vs the 1st messages was something I was hoping to be addressed but in the end if feels like a great divide remained. It just makes me watch the first film and how T'Challa's calling out past Black Panthers for turning thier backs on the world now have little meaning and power.
On the eighteenth day of disneycember, the critic gave to me
A tribute to Mr. Boseman
Rouge one before Rouge one
Ice age with some Dinos
Mickey Mouse in Anime
A “comeback”, not a reboot

Another damn prequel
Pissed off Tim Allen
The worst MCU show
A...kinda better sequel
Some really glitchy gameplay
Another wooden remake
Cheaply made hamburgers
3 multiverses
A huge talking panda

I wept when Chadwick died, literally wept. So the beginning of the film made Me cry again as I knew it would. I appreciate Doug admitting he likes the film but is also aware that it impacts others differently. I’m Haitian so seeing just the few scenes that were set in Haiti, in O-kap, seeing that 1804 as the address on the door, seeing Toussaint. My 80 year old immigrant grandmother held my hand and cried with me. Moments like that mean more then I can properly describe

Wakanda Forever!
Hey! I know this is odd to put under disneycember, but I have a recommendation for Dark Toons. It’s called over the Garden Wall, and it’s my personal favorite cartoon ever made. The total runtime of the series is about 100 mins, and I recommend going in as blind as possible!!!!
Given the situation, it would be fair to say this was the best outcome to make another Black Panther film. A nice tribute to Chadwick while seemingly pushing the story forward. Not the absolute best execution by all means, but given circumstances, it was a better choice than to just cut the character (and maybe the nation out for that matter since Black Panther and Wakanda are basically 1:1).
Rest In Peace, Good Sir. You left a behind a wonder legacy and will not be forgotten anytime soon.
Rest in Peace, Chadwick Boseman.
Wakanda Forever! ✊
On the 18th day of Disneycember the nostalgia critic gave to me
18 fictional countries
17 rebels rebelling
16 dinosaurs dawning
15 interconnected stories
14 ugly sonics
13 bad Thor movies
12 predators hunting
11 terrible plot twists
10 hulks at law
9 ice ages melting
8 glitchy soulsborns
7 soulless puppets
6 ok burgers
5 mad multiverses
4 generational traumas
3 frogs adventuring
2 ice ages starting
And Spider-Man swinging on a pear tree
The tribute to Boseman combined to the plot of dealing with the grief of loss were extremely well done and carried most of this movie. It was really touching, but it's also a Marvel action film done right on top of it. They had a lot of pressure with this and IMO they nailed it. I didn't much like the first Black Panther, it just felt pretty formulaic, like filling a checklist and the action was mostly boring. This one meanwhile is easily one of the best MCU films in my eyes.
If only they had just taken their time and maybe waited another year for the film's release just to give everyone else a break and to recover from whatever injuries they are suffering from and a few reshoots. And give us a better introduction of RiRi Williams' character in the movie. Then maybe, we could have gotten a much stronger yet heartfelt but touching follow up to the first Black Panther movie.
On the seventeenth day of Christmas

The new queen of Wakanda
17 Rebels
A secret Dinosaur-world
15 Disney-Worlds
Five Rescue Rangers
Two Gods of Thunder
12 predators
11 Space-Rangers
Two superhero-lawyers
A mammoth raised by possums
8 Jedi-Knights
A talking marionette
6 Burger-restaurants
Three Multiverses
A family of red pandas
A girl in a strange frog-world

Why is this the only Disneycember 2022 video with a random screenshot as the thumbnail?
I have no idea
I'm still having shivers thinking about Chadwick Boseman (I like to call him Chad, because if feels like the term was coined after him).
This man was fighting cancer this whole time and decided to make movies when he shouldn't have. I can't speak for him, but I have the feeling he did it for us. He watned to give us joy and felt committed to the process even after getting diagnosed (it was after civil war). And those weren't run-of-the-mill performances either: he did high octane action scenes. He must have suffered so much during shooting, but he pressed so can share his passion and enjoy his work.
So here's to an amazing actor and person we couldn't appreciate enough when he was alive. He may no longer be with us, but I don't think the living will be done with him anytime soon.
My only complaint about the movie was that it felt cumbersome. I think it would have been really cool to show the origins of Talokan without words spliced alongside the opening funeral. That idea of weaving together of a birth and a death.
Then later on, Namor would put everything into context for us without having to drop a ton of exposition. Since we've already seen the events play out.
Me: I can do this, a Marvel movie isn't going to make me cry
Movie: plays the Ancestral Plane theme during the funeral as he's being lifted up by the hovercraft
Me: *intense sobbing*
Will Doug do a review for the Netflix Pinocchio?
Shuri had to be Black Panther because only someone with royal blood can survive the heart shaped herb
Let me say this, as a black man, I too don't look at the Black Panther films as, "cultural movements", since there where multiple black heroes before hand. But nonetheless, I do enjoy them. I just wish they were more comic accurate with Namor.
Ironheart’s character annoyed the hell out of me. Even down to her machine for her metallurgy class. Like you had intentions to build a machine that on some level you know would eff up a nation you held in high regard. Angela’s character dying saving hers pissed me off. That girl’s naivety was crap, she wanted recognition for her brilliance.
The Black Panther is not necessarily the ruler of Wakanda. They are two different roles. Remember that T'Challa was already the Black Panther before he became Wakanda's ruler.
I haven't seen the movie, but how do they explain Black Panther's death in the movie? Just curious, no concern with spoilers.
Spoiler
Let's not gloss over how Namor mass murders a bunch of people trying to find Vibranium that they didn't know was already claimed... under the Ocean... by Sea Mutants.
Then he goes on a tirade about Westerners killing over Resources, and being overprotective over their borders while enslaving others.... after he kidnaps an American girl.
Namor isn't just a villain, he's a villain that lacks self-awareness; his people literally colonized the Ocean, and complain about Colonization.
I dont know I like the wing feet. The way he jumps through the air looks cool
The flower is called the heart shaped herb Doug!
It’s important to remember these details
I saw this movie on thanksgiving, seriously feels like they released it too early in November
Definitely liked what they did with Namor making him Latino-centric and recontextualizing him; he’s part of a hidden nation much like Wakanda but having to deal with colonizers like the Spanish Conquistadors actually enslaving locals
His background is influenced mostly by Mesoamerican culture speaking a lot of Mayan dialect
This didn't need to be 2 hours and 41 min long; the first 40 min is kinda sluggish and it takes forever for Shuri to actually put on the suit
She rejects religion and tradition and has to learn how to not let vengeance consume you much like it did T’Challa
She is the most self-destructive out of the bunch not being able to grieve
Everett Ross barely has anything to do but try to convince the CIA that Wakanda shouldn’t be disbanded and easily labeled the enemy
But this shows how a nation responds to hostility when constantly begging for resources and weaponry and when negotiation fails
Any nation can still have allies but war is the last resort when vengeance consumes given every horrific tragedy that's happened in human history whether it’s slavery, genocide or being wiped out by disease
The first movie was way more fun and this kinda strains from having too many characters in here messing with the flow
But Wakanda remains a character in itself much like its inhabitants
There’s themes of dealing with loss and mourning
It's not a nation in a poor country that's the enemy maybe it's everyone else
There’s also the mother-daughter relationship being maintained here much like the father-son dynamic in the original film
Angela Bassett gives one surefire of a performance of a mother lingering among who’s already been lost and running out of options
We have a lot of pain and danger and rage after suffering through something like covid similar to these Wakandans going through what Thanos did
Acts more of a geo political thriller and with a nation coming from the bleakness of loss to a stable place from which a new generation can move forward
This movie is a darker and more emotional approach than most MCU films but acts as a respectable book end to a late actor
The biggest thing that bugged me about this movie is that the subtitles never used commas before addressing people.
Both were good but I prefer the first one mostly because I actually liked the action there better.
From my understanding, Shuri relinquished the throne to M'Baku to rule Wakanda while she would still protect it as Black Panther. I assume it's similar to Civil Was with how T'Chaka was still king but T'Challa had already become BP before his death.
The grand finale to phase 4 of the mcu .
When I saw Killmonger in the sequel, my jaw dropped! I felt more of an impact and goosebumps from his one scene vs. the entire performance of the main villain.
Same. Namor didn't work for me. I'm not sure why.
Shuri being Black Panther and her mother being the leader in this movie makes no sense as with how they decided that in the first movie the way the ruiler/Black Panther is decided.
