  • In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Shuri's evolution shows us the power of grief. Grief is one of the most powerful catalysts for change - with the ability to immobilize, destroy or deepen a person - it can be transmuted for better or for worse. And in the case of Shuri, we aren’t sure if she’ll experience the former or the latter throughout Wakanda Forever. As Shuri’s losses compound, one on top of another, she’s forced to make a choice between what will feel good and what will be good.

Namor in many ways is the ideal all powerful leader. Sheri realizing that Namor isn’t as noble and T Challa but is also not as insane as killmonger means that Shuri can actually reason with Namor as a true leader. Namor has also been in power for centuries - he knows how to play the game and unlike many other characters in the MCU, patient. Who really won the final battle? Both in a way.

    • @CortexNewsService

I couldn't help but think that an extended war between Wakanda and Talocan would make the Endgame battle look like a schoolyard fight. The only way Talocan could win would be if they eliminated Wakanda right off. Wakanda was unprepared in the first battle, but once they have the chance to adapt? Neither would be able to completely overwhelm the other. M'Baku was right, it would be eternal war.

I think Wakanda Forever is a phenomenal movie because it leans into Shuri's and Namor's grief. The conflict, the character development, and the story progression are all about coping with grief and how it shapes us.
After watching Wakanda Forever, I realized how Love and Thunder botched its opportunity to explore grief. Thor, Jane, and Gorr are both experiencing and reacting to immense grief. But their grief never really gets a chance to play out. The movie could have been so much better if it leaned into grief just a little bit at least.

This was a brilliant analysis of Shuri's evolution during her grief.
Until this video, I didn't realize how Namor and KIllmonger pose the same thought to Shuri: "How is less important than 'Why?'"
    * Namor says this to explain why his Mayan ancestors has to become water breathers to escape oppression and death by Spanish conquistadors.
    * Killmonger uses the line to force Shuri to admit that, like himself, her desire to be Black Panther was motivated by vengeance. Unlike Killmonger, Shuri ultimately rejects going down the same path as Killmonger thanks to support from friends and family, especially her mother.

I was really happy to see that the Movie has not been torn apart by male Marvel fans. At least not that I’m involuntarily aware of like with She-Hulk or Captain Marvel, where you can’t watch any video without coming across loads of hate comments. Now Wakanda Forever really is full of women with very few male characters. I used to think that Wonder Woman has been spared because Gal Gadot is still your traditional comic book fan kind of eye candy. Captain Marvel and She-Hulk are obviously not. Not that they’re not attractive, but they simply aren’t presented for the male gaze. I still cringe at the way Black Widow has been introduced in an Iron Man Movie. It’s really cool to see that Wakanda Forever doesn’t get hate. It might be because it’s more than respectful towards Chadwick Boseman‘s legacy. Also it’s not political about sex. While it’s Shuri against Namor it’s never female against male. No gender is celebrated nor critisized. It’s all about it’s characters. The movie features strong female characters and it works for everyone. Great to see that a female lead superhero movie works without putting the heroine in revealing clothes or have her flirt with someone.

    Spoilers:
One thing that was weird was Shuri automatically knowing how to fight once she became the Black Panther. The magic herbs enhance her strength, speed and healing, but not hand-to-hand skills. And as someone who went against her traditions, there's no indication she would have learned alongside her brother growing up. So, with 0 training, this tech nerd bests Namor, a king and actual seasoned warrior. It's another example of Disney/Marvel still doing that thing where some characters really don't have to put in the work to win. What makes it pronounced this time, is that the Wakandan culture literally has trial by combat to establish rulers, even for bloodline heirs- something the script never even has Shuri worry about.
Other than this writing frustration, I thought Letitia Wright did a great job stepping into the lead role.

    • @CaptainPikeachu
      @CaptainPikeachu Год назад +13

Shuri didn’t automatically just know how to fight after getting powers, she clearly is and has been trained in combat, shown by her participating in the fight in Black Panther and the fight in Endgame. You think Wakanda would have had their Princess on the field of battle if she wasn’t able to fight and take care of herself? And let’s also remember that Shuri did nearly lose and got speared in the fight with Namor. She is only able to take him down by being clever and aiming for his weak points, Shuri doesn’t fight to merely overpower someone physically, she fights smartly and tactically.

I've watched the movie twice. Once in theatres, and once with a version that has most of the whiny "T'Challa is dead, waaah" bullshit removed from the film.
Not only does it make a much tighter, more interesting movie, it's a much shorter film. So much better than the theatrical.
And before someone starts with "Boseman's dead, you monster, don't you care?!"
Nope. Not really. RIP Boseman, and that's about as much as I care.
They should have done with the Black Panther what Hollywood has always done when a beloved character's actor dies, and recast.
But the media machine has people believing Boseman was the second coming of Christ, the first black led superhero. Of course, Wesley Snipes existed, so.
