      Jokes aside, Kalvin, 51Machines, and Garage Yoshida I would trust with metal fabrication work.
      The R33 GTR 51Machines is restoring is rough as Kalvins.
      There is also a handful of guys in Australia doing full off rotisserie restorations on Nissan Skyline GTRs.

    Hey Kalvin,
    Nissan USA never handled the R32 to R34, it's not something they're familiar with and Nissan corporate in the US doesn't really operate with any sort of consideration for the modding or import community.
    If you want to talk to Nissan Japan, I can speak Japanese and my wife is Japanese, and actually my wife's cousin is an engineer with Mitsubishi. He probably can get us in contact with someone who would be more receptive.

    Am I the only one who tears up watching these?
    Got me hiding my face from the wife LoL 😆.
    Nah but for real, watching a warrior charge through obstacles and opponents that you thought would defeat him, is nothing short of art in motion. The few who have been in similar situations will know exactly what I'm talking about. To see Kalvin going from feeling completely defeated to see him in the final lap of this rust issue... Words don't do it justice.
    And I mean that. 💯
    Also, Nissan may not do that, but Amayama sure has a affiliate program. They also stock a heckload of JDM OEM parts. If that info helps.

    4:47 you brought up a good point about effort and paint work in Japan. Years ago my buddy imported a 95 RHD Toyota Supra, it was a hardtop twin turbo 6spd and it had this duffy fiberglass bodykit and the bodywork was horrible. So much waves on the quarters, doors and the fenders. I remember pulling the kit off and stripping the paint with a DA. I had to prime the whole car and block it with 180 then 320 and finish it with 600 wet.
    I painted it and then blocked all the clear flat with 1000,1500,2000,3000.
    The car came out really nice, he then sold it around 2014 and I can guarantee you he is probably hating himself because of the surge in value. 😂
    The more we have access to RUclips, the more I notice a lot of the "tuners" in Japan back in the day were probably just winging it. Maybe at the time they had much less knowledge because of the lack of information outlets like RUclips. I am not talking about the professional in Japan who's a fulltime worker doing automotive collision, I am just talking about the average 90s tuner. Things for sure probably haved changed with the times, so it is no suprise with your car or even my buddies old Supra I painted; though my buddies car was not rotted to hell.
    I respect you to take on that project, I showed my buddy your channel who does heavy Collision bodywork at Lexus and he was very impressed.
    I wish there is a way to post a picture to show you the car.
    Good luck on the build, you inspire me to get back into autobody and do only full restoration work

    • @idokwatcher2062
      @idokwatcher2062 Год назад

      Yeah they all do some shady stuff. Smokey Nagata is especially sus, like a random interview on Japanese show where a customer 240z was in the shop for 3 years. Or some rich turk wanted to buy a gold top secret R35, matched his exorbitant asking price without haggling, and then Nagata ghosted him...

    • @Speakingdatruth
      @Speakingdatruth Год назад

      @idokwatcher2062 lol. I don't know about any of that stuff with Smokey, but, I can confirm you have to be extremely careful buying a used 90s tuner car in Japan.
      There is a video floating around of a gentleman who bought a special edition R33 GTR and was told the car is in great shape. When he got it, it had blown turbos, cracked block, bad pistons and interior pieces where superglue and painted over to cover the damage repaired.
      The shop was Japan-Partner.
      I think it would be a great video for Kalvin to watch so he doesn't feel he was the only one who got dooped.
      I later saw in an older thread on the GTR forums that a guy in the US bought a R32 GTR from them too and they told him they were going to do "light" tune up before shipping the car to make sure it arrives perfect.
      Well, it was like 2-3 months sitting at the shop and no word, so he ended up flying to personally check out the car unexpectedly. I will tell you how the story ended, there was no motor or transmission in the car, in fact, they had a junk yard motor sitting next to it that they salvaged and were trying to Frankenstein it together for the client.
      The guy was so upset for them lying, he told them I am not paying you what you asked for the car and either you give me half my money back or this is not going to end well (physical fight). He told him we Americans don't play that shit.
      All these guys will tell you Japan cars are taken much more care than the US cars and that's unfortunately not true.
      They keep throwing that "Shaken" test every 2 years but it is no different than a glorified SMOG test here in the US. 😂
      I am not making this post to be negative or discourage people, just be aware, work with a reputable company if you plan to buy a car at an auction. Pay the extra for those inspection photos and don't rely so much on the grading system. Different auction houses have different grading criterias. What may be a grade 4 in Osaka house might be a grade 3 in the Okinawa house.
      As long as you work with a good licensed auction brokerage company and you are patient, you can end up finding something.
      These stories happening come from a "local" selling cars or a "tuner shop" selling you a vehicle.
