I have been walking, my usual after work, hour and quarter and I can't stop listening to this concert, it's a 'DOUBLE PHOAR' - Listen to that!!!!!!!!!! It's absolutely wonderful, if you are not a Rory Gallagher fan, after listening to this, I don't know what's wrong with you. The man is absolute magic, triple magic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! R.I.P Rory, you wonderful man, this is fantastic!
Nice comment Susan!!
Who said I wasn't a RORY GALLAGHER fan!?? 🎶👀😁🤔😂
I was there. I had no idea how important this gig was as I had barely heard of Rory at the time, however so pleased to say I was there and witnessed this epic set. RIP Rory.
There was only one Rory Gallagher , His showmanship , congeniality , and masterful guitar prowess will never be matched ! R.I.P. Rory !!!
I agree, he was the whole package bursting at the seams.
Rory G live an experience you'll never forget. The guy was a genius, legend and very humble gentleman. No frills with Rory, what you see is what you got. And what you got was the best of the best, end of.nuff said, mesmerising ☘
Unfortunately I was never able to see him live but thankfully he left a great catalog of live shows behind. Sadly and grossly underrated and overlooked. Peter Frampton said Rorys live playing was only matched by Hendrix, mic drop....
Rory GOAT I love this concert Rory at his brilliant best his band always gave it 100% as well
He was a hubble "Beast" of a Musician. I get Goosebumps listening to his playing.. Great live show.. I also, LOVE the 74 Irish Tour Album.. Electrifying to me.
This is beautiful. I was there, my first Reading, down the front, I never thought I would hear this set again.
Me too Andy, good to hear from someone else who was there.
I was there too .... Great stuff !
@@kevinhodgson8508 Its 43 years ago, can you believe it?... we "were" young !!...
@@wilfredbramble009 ... Absolutely .... Timeless memories ...
Yes i was there, and thought i would never here the set again,,The song Hellcat from this set was on a various artists album, cant remember the album and lost it many years ago,i was 17 at this show, jeez 43 yrs ago.
A blistering jawdropping set, driven by 60 000 fans in awe... may Rory's heritage live on forever!
My 1st festival....
@@LazloWoodbine WOW!
@@LazloWoodbine Ditto. Did Donnington the following year.
The great artists never die. 🎶🎶✨
Reading 80 was my favourite ever festival and Rory supplied one of my happiest memories. I was pitched up the the middle of the crowd and I might be wrong but I recall Rory played the left hand stage. The crowd in that area had lit up a sizeable bonfire and when Rory played OOTWP, I was transported to another time and a different continent. Everyone round that fire felt the same. An amazing experience inspired by a fantastic musician. I will take that memory to my grave......Thank you Rory boy.
Shadow Play at 1:12:00. Breathtaking for me. You pick your words.
OMG thank you Rory, what a performer, now I'm shedding tears, why did he have to leave us, Rest in Peace Rory ☘️🎶❤️🎶☘️💚
I remember like it was yesterday! What a Fecking weekend that was!
Thanks for posting! Just when you think it can’t get any better...! A complete monster live- a true virtuoso - no song the same live! A master...! Always something extra to change up a song!
His own songs are superb too- sometimes this gets missed because of his majestic playing.
Thanks again- just forwarded this to 4 buddies with the message “ I love you tube” - all because people like you take time to upload superb , life- enhancing stuff like this.
Buíochas!!
Thanks for the tickets to the festival RGR. The sound was great, Rory was incendiary...wish I'd remembered to bring the heat shield! It was scorching! The stage was burnt when the band finished playing. I'm sure those in front were sent to the local burn units! I read that the damage to the site was so irreparable that the festival was forced to relocate ;-) hahahehehoho...watasho.
Great stuff. My all-time favorite. The REAL deal. RIP Rory.
I was there and remember being blown away by the experience. I looked forward to the Review in Sounds, and was disgusted to see they allocated two lines, explaining they had decided to go home half way through. I'm certain that attitudes like that contributed to Rory's sad early death at the age of 47.
God they missed out on such a great performance
I was the 3 3 day Rock Festival. He was superb. I remember his check shirt and faded jeans and blew almost all the 50,000+ headbangers away.
seen Rory many, many times. miss him and love him. RORY FOREVER!
You're so lucky!
Repeat viewer, again! Would Like again if I could! Lynn and Susan are correct...can listen to this one everyday and have on continuous play! But then, every performance I've heard by Rory and his dynamic band of friends is spectacularly eligible for the same treatment! I have over 30 of Rory's great shows loaded into my player at home and in the car; they get daily use, as I cycle through and repeat. His shows get better (more enjoyable) with repeated listening.
rip rory you was the best guitar player
RIP Ted Mckenna (Drums) as well. Rory had several drummers over the years but in my humble opinion Ted was the best. Sadly passed away three years ago whilst undergoing a fairly routine hernia operation.
Super quality
I don't know guys, this performance got to me, especially those raw screams coming off the end of Shadow Play. You can tell those 2 screams may have come from Rory, but you also must feel that they really started with the audience spontaneously singing along. Let me put it this way, I've seen Metallica, AC/DC and Iron Maiden live, and the singers for these great bands know how to get and squeeze participation out of an audience, they'll rile you up again and again, Bruce Dickinson especially will grab an audience, shake them and rile the place to bits with his 'scream for me (place of where they're playing)', and he'll keep that up for ages and it's great craic, but Rory never seems to look for much participation, I've never heard him look for more than a footstomp or a simple cheer when he's introducing his band, and I've only heard him once double-back on a song to get a crowd on board, so when an audience gets behind him it's nearly always magical. Genuine, deserved, and so instead of expecting it and going through the motions it spurs Rory to give it 110%. This entire gig is outstanding and I've heard Shadow Play dozens of times, but this version here stands out somehow. What a way to finish a gig and god help whoever tried to come after him and the boys!
Yes shadow play reminds me of the one from montreux 79 similar energy love one with a reprise but yea the screams are so energetic make you start headbanging
Thanks for your insightful post. To have been in that audience down front would have been awesome
☘🎸
@@waywardchild4678 He was the headline that night, so no one followed him. I wasn't at the front, but even further back it was mind blowing! I think this was the third time I saw him, and he ALWAYS delivered . No bullshit, no messages, no politics, just the best footstomping music ever played!
@@pobsdad he DID politics, though, by being the first high caliber musician to play in BOTH IRELANDS
GOOD LORD!! thank you!!!! OMG
You're welcome =)
I have been there
Fabuleux son decouvert en 73 avec Tatoo ..... a vie !
This Is One Great Show Listen To This Everyday !
Fabulous. Thanks so much for sharing. This was the last time I saw Rory live - bringing back great memories!
You're very welcome, hope it reminds you of attending it!!
awesome quality and awesome Rory, of course...
This remastering is impressive! Thank You so much for the upload!
You're very welcome!
What a brilliant performance 💎
3 on stage !!!
Woah.
Thank you so much for the upload. Rory our Rainbow Rory RIP
Untouchable
I was there for this, great show & we had Gillan before hand as well.
Yep, I was there on the Friday 1980, many thanks for an excellent upload.
Awesome artist
I have never seen Springsteen live but I can hardly imagine that, at least the old aged one, could have been more incredible to witness than RORY.
The difference was that Springsteen became an arena act & while the shows were good there is nothing like the concentrated energy, power & passion that you got from Rory in the clubs/smaller venues.
I saw them at the same venue once - Winterland in SF - different shows & Springsteen was the headliner while Rory was support. Suffice to say Rory tore up his 45 minute slot.
Master Gallagher was Still Rocking Hard!
Wish they had the video, damn he was on!!!!!
I only hope that Rory’s set was the last of that day......if not I pity the poor fucker who had to follow that!
This is great & I'm late to this share, but it does come from my discs, THX!!! I originally received this from a BBC employee so it's nice quality! There's also an almost complete "AUD" source that includes the first two tracks (Shinkicker, & Last Of The Independants), & the last track (Bullfrog Blues), FYI. I always wanted to make a complete show merging all, but one of many projects I just never got to. Thanks again RGR for sharing !!!
Wow, great that you got such a perfect recording, this is such a great show, especially with him as a headliner with iron maiden!! Yes the aud is decent glad that got around too, just like the Lisdoonvarna 83 one! Thanks for getting this original tape!!
GOAT
I was at this Festival .... Tremendous !
I was there.
...the best!
was there at front was awesome speed made it even better lol
just commenting the time stamp for shadow play because i love it and want to come back to it - 1:12:50

Monster set.
Rory Rory ....... Incrível Incrível.....
Wow. I was there and what a gig. RIP Rory.
At 1:18, the scream of all yells.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Sometimes i Wonder, what if Rory gallagher had joined the Stones, hm, im glad that he dont do it, and become the man of the People"Moonchild". RIP🎸📀
He was not meant (by God) to play with the Stones. He was too great for them!
⚡️🔥💥💎🌠😉😎
A wonderful collection! I'm trying to find a live version of Sleep On A Clothesline. As far as I know he did it at Reading 73. Maybe somewhere else. Share it please if you have.
I can upload the reading version if you want, there's no other ones as far as I remember.
@@RoryGallagherRarities Sure I want! Thanks in advance. By the way maybe you have in your vaults any live version of There's A Light?
@@user-jn5jc8jo6s no worries, no sorry there's none of that song unfortunately, it's a pity that the first two albums were not played live for too long.
@@user-jn5jc8jo6s ruclips.net/video/SsZ46bI7dL0/видео.html Here you go! Quality is quite poor, but still the only recording!
Was there a version from Cowtown in 1974.
Cheers mate so good to hear this.
Have you ever come across a recording of Rory at the Belfry,Sutton Coldfield that was broafcast on local Birmingham radio at the time
Nick
I might do, any idea what year, I have a few audience from the area anyway.
I'd guess 72 or 73,I 1st saw him at B'ham town hall in 72 and i think it was after that but due to been at school at the time and the Belfry been out in the country we couldn't get there.
@@nicklloyd1714 right, well I think I have Sutton from late 72 and the town hall from February 73 must check later I'll put them up if I do 👍
@@nicklloyd1714 neither are BBC unfortunately
Thanks for your trouble,it looks like the Belfry was Dec 11th.
