  • When you're considering what irons to use it's important to think about the "miss" you get with different types of irons. A bladed iron and a hollow body iron will both perform fantastic when hit out of the middle but they will have very different "misses."

I'm playing off a 4.5 handicap right now and I recently (October 2023) bought the Takomo 101T irons and they have completely changed my iron game!
The only negative thing I can say right now is that sometimes I catch one really hot and it flies like 10 yards further than my average carry.

I got my 101Ts around early April and I am majorly impressed with them. I've been a Mizuno blade player for the past 9 years (MP5) and decided to go to the 101Ts over the 301MBs in order to have more forgiveness when it came to carry, and accepted there may be some more horizontal dispersion with a bit more offset.
However, I've found that they far outperformed what I was expecting. Exactly as you demonstrate in this video, if you swing well then your dispersions left to right will still be pretty tight, and with the 101Ts the front to back dispersion is extremely tight even with mishits.
I could not be happier with these irons and will be gaming them for a long time to come!

One major thing to consider when deciding between the two is your fairways in Regulation percentage. If you are always in the fairway, then the forgiving club is your best friend.
But… if you frequently miss fairways you are going to be saved a lot by having the workable club (in/under/around trouble.

    • @ToddPlaysGolf
      @ToddPlaysGolf 3 месяца назад

I feel like it should be the opposite to what you are saying: If you are always hitting fairways, you have the skill level to start manipulating the ball with a more workable iron. If you are missing fairways, you should be getting a more forgiving iron to minimize the damage of your contact.

Perfect timing on this video. I am a 3.0 hcp and have been playing the 101T’s since they came out and have just decided to order a set of 301CB’s. I am very interested to see my results.

Will do and I’ve also played the 201’s, and 101’s. I have built somewhere around 16-18 sets for customers and can say the quality of these clubs are as good and many cases better than the major brands. Specs out of the box have been impressive for sure.

Enjoyed the video, good job on the comparisons! Could you perform the same test (using the 7 irons), but to a 185yd par 3, closest to the pin? Then you'd be taking into consideration your right to left shot shape (starting it right, then letting if fall left, etc). Then maybe do another comparison, but force yourself to play a left to right shot into the green. Thanks for the videos!

I've been considering getting some takomo irons for quite a while now as haven't changed them in a long time. I currently play an old set of titleist CB irons and was looking at either the 301 CB or the 201s which might be a bit more forgiving when I don't quite strike it. I think that are a fraction stronger too so might give me some extra distance.

I’m an 8 and have been playing clubs like hogan apex plus, hogan ptx and titleist t100’s but just ordered the 101t’s as I’m done trying to get better. Lol. I have been using a set of old callaway x tours from 2006 and they are just so more forgiving so I figured the 101t’s will be similar and maybe even easier. Just want to enjoy the game again.

So I am having trouble deciding between 301 cb, 201, or 101t, I am about a 8-12 handicap I do not know for sure, I hit the ball really high, which I would like to lower, and I want something that goes a little farther, but also has that forgiveness and consistency. What would you recommend for my club head, and the shaft?

Do you think the feel alone of the forged 201’s is worth it over the 101T’s? I have the 101T and absolutely love them but I’m an equipment junky and want to get another set. I know I have no business gaming the 301’s as a 14.1 handicap but they are beautiful. I know the 201’s would be a lot more forgiving but curious if it’s even worth it if I have the 101T’s.

Go try a forged cavity back from a golf shop/fitter and see how you like it. I know it won't be 100% identical to the 201's but the feel should be close I would imagine.

I get the appeal from a looks perspective and when you hit a good ones, blades feel amazing, but man, I don't understand why so many higher HCP play blades. I guess if you're out there having fun and drinking and the golf means less it makes sense? but those misshits, damn, they are ugly. I've only played 3 years and currently off 8,0. I adopted the hybrids and woods fairly quickly. I don't see myself using irons below 6 tbh.

    Takomo,
Go back two months, your video on comparing the, 101, 101t's, and the 102's, I believe, I shot you a comment.
Lets let a non perfect golfer, or a not so average golfer try these out, and check his dispersion, distance, and consistency.
Call Liam from golfmates, not a scratch golfer, or random viewer with a higher handicap try these out.
The last thing I want to see, is watching a great golfer getting paid to try and sell me something that might not work.
    What say you Takomo?
