Serge's Game 1 Treasure Cruise drew him Murderous Rider, Thoughtseize, and Force of Will - three cards that are all capable of making him kill himself at 1 life.
That is correct, it uses the last known value before it left play which is zero. Particularly gruesome interaction against Elenda decks in commander as it gets around the normal board wipe resilience if you use toxic deluge or the like
I appreciate the use of obvious proxies on the lrr shows lately, it's nice to see them even when I know that wheeler and serge are invested players with access to the expensive stuff
I mean I agree. But I think it's not necessarily intended to show off proxies but more that Wheeler might be trying to parley some of the more expensive cards (Moxes) into home ownership
After looking through the 18 (Current) episodes of North 100 Showdown, Serge has won 5 out of 18 matches, Which is coincidentally, the same number he has gone 0-2 in. He has won 1 out of the last 10 matches. Yet he is always having a blast and you can tell just how much he loves the format and loves the game of Magic. I love the Show and I love the hosts. Here's hoping for many more episodes to come.
12:05 This will go down as one of, if not THE, best moment in all of LRRMTG history - maaaybe second to Ben ripping the Farewell off of the top of Adam's deck at the pre-release.
Soon as dark confident hit the board and they said dammit bobby I hit the like button 😂 gotta love that card, thankful for this channel I’ve learned a lot from you two 🙏🏻
Ok, so you definitely don't need 20 ninjas in a deck to call it a ninja deck, but im pretty sure there were moments in this match where even Serge forgot he was on ninjas lol. Anyways, thanks for the great content as always, one of these days Serge is going to go on a winning run.
Just finished watching the previous episode, refreshed youtube, and there's a new episode fresh out of the PRODUCTION ENTERTAINMENT CONGLOMERATE AGENCY that is LRR. Thank you for the continual content and enjoyable people.
17:12 Wheeler should not get a squirell i bleieve. The Nested Shambler says "where X is Nested Shambler’s power" but jitte gives -1/-1 to kill it, so it should be a 0/0 when it dies
15:20 yikes seeing serge using otawara in that way hurts a lot! I think there was a way to play, forcing some sacks with jitte and after that bouncing the feeder with otawara to try to nullify the value. Ps. I haven't seen how the game goes after, I always roots for u Serge!
I was thinking the same thing - use the jitte to force multiple sacs then otawara. If Wheeler doesn't take the bait then his creatures die for no value and Serge comes out on top anyway.
Tried out the new VSR thing with this video, unfortunately it seems to think that the overhead cam is supposed to be blurry and so it just doesn't try very hard to make the cards on the table readable.
Don't think it mattered a whole lot, but unless I'm wrong (which is probably the case) in game 1, Wheeler shouldn't have got a Squirrel off Nested Shambler after Jitte shrunk it to death since Shambler makes tokens equal to its power. Still, what a great game. That cut was something to behold.
I could be wrong, but I believe that for death triggers, the card looks at the version just before the state based action kills it, so it would still produce a token. But I could super be incorrect on this one, currently going off the judging for the win video on Marchesa and Black Sun's Zenith and I could be misinterpreting it.
@@chaotic_doc At the time of death for the Nested Shambler it's power is 0 so X = 0. For Marchesa the issue is with how +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters interact with a leaves-the-battlefield trigger. Before state-based actions were performed (which cancel out the plus and minus counters) the leaves-the-battlefield trigger sees that they had both +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on them so Marchesa's ability still works. For the Nested Shambler the game sees it has -1/-1 on it (making it a 0/0) before it died, so it uses the 0 power for the trigger.
I love North 100 but I feel Serge gets bullied way too much and I don't know why. Are his decks greedy? Is Wheeler that much of a better player/deckbuilder, is Serge just super unlucky (Likely considering that Blood Artist cut)
I think Serge plays about 90% good cards and 10% Serge cards which makes a difference when Ben plays almost 100% very good cards. I've noticed Serge also makes rather odd choices with what to counter, such as countering the Diabolic Intent game 3.
At this point we have seen initiative creatures for several weeks in a row. Are these creatures so good they are auto includes now or just cards you guys enjoy playing?
Not that it mattered, but I'm pretty sure the shambler in game 1 shouldn't have made a squirrel - it was -1/-1 from the Jitte, so its power was 0 when it died.
Well its confirmed that if you don’t get a single ninjutsu trigger off, you are not playing ninjas! I came here to see ninjas and all i got was a discarded yuriko 😤 the umezawa’s Jitte in honor of a ninja did work tho
Imo cards being banned or pointed also depends on what the overall card quality of decks is like. Filling your yard with fetches, Cantrips etc. is pretty easy and powerful, so being rewarded for that by getting to play Ancestral Recall is really cool and good. Admittedly I am not too familiar with Pioneer, but maybe it's meta cards cannot support Cruise well enough? Please correct me if my assumption or interpretation is wrong tho.
Formats in which fetchlands (e.g. Misty Rainforest and friends) are legal put the delve cards over the top usually. It's very easy to stuff your deck with fetchlands, fill up your graveyard with them and fuel your Treasure Cruise, Dig Through Time, Murktide Regents etc....
Minor note, Wheeler doesn't actually get a 1/1 from the nested shambler, as it had 0 power when it died. I don't think it quite mattered though, and very fun match as always :D
The fact that it wasn't just *a* blood artist, no, it was Actual Factual Foil Blood Artist. Perfection.

Wheeler bullying Serge into cutting him to his Blood Artist is the current frontrunner for N100 clip of the year.
Was Wheeler tilting off to the moon from the double fetch stifle this year? This is great, but that was better.

Technically last year. But also, that happened on FNPF
And Ben laughing off camera
@@markbrierley6367 what episode was that from?

Serge cutting Wheeler's deck to EXACTLY Blood Artist in game 1 is maybe one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
Serge really did play UB ninjas. In 3 games no ninjas were seen, truly living up to their legend.
To be fair, he did exile a ninja with force at one point.
I feel like we're getting North 100 Showdowns more often and I approve. Favorite MTG content on the entire internet.
big true
Me too, I wish I could get people at my lgs to play try
Serge's Game 1 Treasure Cruise drew him Murderous Rider, Thoughtseize, and Force of Will - three cards that are all capable of making him kill himself at 1 life.
Correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't the nested shamblers power 0 when it died so it shouldn't create the squirrel?
That is what I was thinking
That is correct, it uses the last known value before it left play which is zero.
Particularly gruesome interaction against Elenda decks in commander as it gets around the normal board wipe resilience if you use toxic deluge or the like
Saying this out loud as it happened, lol
Its close to mattering in that game too. But I think even if the squirrel wasnt made, Ben still had enough.
Yeah, it wouldn’t have mattered there but the squirrel shouldn’t have existed.
I appreciate the use of obvious proxies on the lrr shows lately, it's nice to see them even when I know that wheeler and serge are invested players with access to the expensive stuff

@@ILikePi31415926535Also even if you have the expensive cards, playing them is going to deteriorate them, even in double sleeves.
We need a Wheeler tutorial on shuffling. Every time he shuffles, I get jealous of those skills
Wheeler: My deck only plays bad cards
Also Wheeler: *turn 2 white plume adventurer*
Something that probably didn’t matter, but in the first game wheeler shouldn’t have made a squirrel off nested shambler - its power was 0 when it died
at 17:12 when nested shambler dies, wheeler shouldnt get a squirrel as the shambler had 0 power because of jitte
Only five ninjas in ninjas? There’s only one ‘hoof in ‘hoof.

Serge only included 5 ninjas in his deck because he accounted for the law of Conservation of Ninjutsu.

"you cut my deck, i didnt do anything" is why i never cut my opponents deck when i play lantern
At 17:20, because wheeler's shambler has -1/-1, he isn't supposed to get the squirrel
Excellent, as always. Thank you.
I would like to petition to get Nelson on the show, please.
I watched this when it released, and a year later, and it's still hilarious that Serge cuts him to that blood artist🤣🤣🤣
Serge.....Serge you need more than 5 ninjas. You have 5 rogues too and even 3 wizards.
That cut to the blood artist was hilariously cruel.
To serge's tribal question, I'd liken it to Pod or Vault decks, identifying the win condition and naming the deck after it is what egos are for
As a man named Frank, I need to know why Sprouting Thrinax has that nickname.
I believe the lore is that the name was awkward to say so Frank became the short hand for it.
I gotta get into this dual lands crushing market.

This and Commander at Home are the only two shows where I can actually watch people play Magic and have fun watching it.
Give Elder Dragon Social Club on here a watch too! High quality Pre-recorded commander games, lots of fun.
Ben Wheeler should not have gotten the green 1/1 token, because the creature’s power was 0 when it died.
