Hi Mr & Miss Hubnut, thank you for showing my humble Escort TD some love! It’s a new addition to my little fleet, and this show was its first day out! You’re welcome to review it for the channel. Many thanks 👍
Awesome video of the show, you both did a fantastic job on creating a lasting memory of a fantastic day, even capturing my Vanden Plas 1500 entering the show. Thanks for coming along.👍
What a great car show, with a truly wonderful range of classics on show. A real treat, thank you for this Ian & Carly. Loved hearing the different engines running and seeing the cars driving.
Ian, There is fascinating book about Frank Costin "Flying on Four Wheels" - it contains a section about this car - described as the Ultimate Low Drag Vehicle. Lovely to see it in life!
Nice eclectic mix especially the Costain. Motorsports definitely ran in the Costain blood as it was Frank Costain’s brother Mike who teamed up with Keith Duckworth to form the legendary engine builders Cosworth.
Penscynor was a favorite of mine as a kid, my nan lived a few miles away in Skewen, many a happy memories of going down the toboggan. I will now be sourcing some stickers for my Classic Saab 900 and my Mini project
Thank you both flra great video! The Costin was fascinating & I had no idea this was the inspiration for Friends homebuild...like you I saw his vehicle when a youngster...it regularly got a mention in kit car magazine show reports.
Great show and great report. This show is one of the best of the year in South West Wales, well worth travelling for with so much to see and such a friendly atmosphere. Once you're done with the cars, there's a car boot and auto jumble to look around a buy stuff you'll get in trouble for later!
Wow what a great turnout and wow a Costin too. Frank Costin was a pioneer in the art of using plywood as a structural material to build cars such as the early Marcos cars and the Costin Nathan GT. Just wow. Also hats off to the restorer he's done an amazing job on an unbelievably rare car. Id have equally been as geek ridden as you were Ian as those cars are just not seen. its like the time I saw a Lancia 037 or a Matra Murena, rare as hens teeth in the UK. such a great video thanks for great content as always from you both and thanks for sharing
Some of the rather vintage engines do sound very smooth and sweet, but then they were build with much heavier materials so there's a lot of well-balanced mass to keep them smooth... :)
That's a good show, and I'll comment on a few. The early VW Kombis, when I was growing up in the 60's, were oft referred to as Hitler's revenge, as they were rather terrible in the first place, and became more so as they wore out. That's pretty funny considering what they are worth now! On the TR4A, one good thing about them is that their popularity makes Vanguard ownership a whole lot more viable, as many parts being remanufactured for TR2/3/4 are perfectly compatible with Vanguards. You picked the 49 Ford in the end. This is the full sized American Ford - their first truly postwar design and their first to have independent front suspension. On Armstrong Siddeleys being named after aircraft, there are exceptions, these being the 2 models of ute they produced based on the Hurricane. They were the Station Coupe and the Utility Coupe, the Station Coupe being a twin cab. They were made in the UK, with most but not all going to Australia. I'm afraid that I always thought the Hurricane's styling a bit unfortunate. Cheers.
And while we are on the subject of Armstrong Siddeleys we should not forget the post war Sapphire range (346 and Star both large and elegant, while the 234 and 236 were much smaller and blessed with less elegant coachwork but both had excellent performance and handling for their era) which were named after the Sapphire jet engines, also made by Armstrong Siddeley.
Please pass on to Miss HubNut that I too went to the now-defunct Penscynor Wild Life Park! A few times, in fact. First time was when I was about five year old on a school trip. Then a few visits later on where I was old enough to ride the bobsled. They also had a few motorised ride-on vehicles, also for children. And an attraction where you could control radio controlled cars. I know there were animals there too, but nearly every memory of that park is of it's vehicle-based attractions! lol
Ian, that premiere of the show was, to quote your good self, “Lurvely.” So many beautiful cars. I think that should be a new piece of merchandise… you surveying a field of classics with the caption “Lurvely.” 🙂
Good seeing that Mk6 Escort I dad had one in pepper red 5 door S plate not sure what spec but had a badge on the back doors with Halewood in old Ford writing
A great show report, a great variety of cars on display, have to agree with Miss Hubnut the Mark 6 Escort LX Turbodiesel really appealed. I wonder why 🤔 still miss mine.
I think I read that Costin made only three of those! I remember reading the review in Car Magazine in the 1970s when it was launched. I think it is even more astonishing now!
In Australia the Ford Custom 49 was referred to as a 'Single Spinner' and it replacement was a 'Twin Spinner'. My Dad had a 53 Ford Customline V8 (anniversary model)which had been a police car ans was good for 100mph in an era when few id.
The 69 capri was purchased tax free in Germany because i was in the RAF. Picked it up from the port with 7 miles on the clock. When i left Germany i had to register in UK, thats why its got a K plate
I read about Friend Wood’s car the Tyrane ii when I was a young ‘un too. As I recall it has some 2cv running gear including the motor, tops 100mph and returns well over 100mpg. You should do a film on it. It’s even more interesting than the Costin in my opinion!
i read about it when i was slightly older than you. the Tryane was i think Dyane based. to me it has something of the Lotus 11 with Marcos and Lotus Elite
Although the Gilbern Invader was a very low production car exhausts were easy... a friend had one & you simply put two cheap as chips 1600 Ford Escort mk2 systems onto it... one for each side of the 3L v6.
Love the variety and all the information provided. 20:45 "2CV engine but is four wheeled" does it means it's 4 wheel drive in some sort? I'm very confused but love it anyway Love the Costin Auto Project 5. Reminds me a little of the Alfa Zagato Disco Volante and VW Sagitta.
Had a mk6 escort 1.6 finesse myself ran and drove spot on but the usual ford rust killed it as needed 2 sills and 2 rear arches was only on 57k at the time aswell
DVLA prohibit the use of a number plate with year identifier being used to make a vehicle appear to be younger. ( You can however use a plate which makes your car seem older legally). That one owner Capri will be a 1971 model and not a 1969 model as advertised. Just checked both DVLA website and GOV.UK websites to confirm this.
That's the rule now, it wasn't the rule back in the 1970s. The identifier would simply be the year it was first registered, whether delayed for some reason or if the car was imported.
Ian, wonder if you can help? In the late 80’s I lived in Pembrokeshire and was once passed near Cardigan by a 3 wheeler that looked like a Citroen Dyane, but with a single rear wheel in the middle. It definitely wasn’t a lomax or similar, as the whole body was too standard looking apart from the tapered in rear. Any ideas, as I’ve always been puzzled by it?
Thanks for that! Just searched Citroen Tryane and found a picture of a red Dyane looking front. I do remember, when I saw it, it was being driven very quickly which may explain the crash picture from a later date.
Do the Panthers have DeLorean wheels or just look that way. (I may edit and add to this comment, haven't finished watching yet but I'll forget to ask if I leave it 😂) That Supra is the spitting image of my first car ever in Gran Turismo 😁
The Costin DKW would make a great EV, Light and aerodynamic. The Deek Engine was great choiceas it was known as the 3=6 ,six cylinder power from 3 2 stroke cylinders.
That Austin 7 van would that be the smallest van ever made and that Vauxhaul lsuzu in Australia the Holden Gemini but many wonderful classic cars and naturally a great turn out
@22:02. Do you know the registration number Ian ? I’ve been trying to find my Dad’s old Austin 12 ascot ‘1935’ He sold it in 1986 along with a Jowett javelin and Ford Prefect. I have seen it in another video about 8 years since’ and havent been able to find her 🥺. If anyone knows it’s whereabouts? I’d love to know how it’s doing. Reg number is AWU 404. . Thanks for reading 👍
@@HubNut Oh well’ I’ll keep looking 👀. Appreciate you taking the time to reply Ian ‘ thank you. We have been looking around a few years now’ it’s a sentimental thing for us as a family’ unfortunately I don’t think we’ll see her again. But ‘ honestly many thanks 🙏 👍

A stroll around a car show. Few do it better than Hubnut.

Thanks for saying hello!
What a great car show, with a truly wonderful range of classics on show. A real treat, thank you for this Ian & Carly. Loved hearing the different engines running and seeing the cars driving.
Costins were built in Cwm y Glo, near Caernarfon. A common scene in the area years ago. Note the Caernarfon number plate
Ian, There is fascinating book about Frank Costin "Flying on Four Wheels" - it contains a section about this car - described as the Ultimate Low Drag Vehicle. Lovely to see it in life!

Beautiful Dino probably most valuable car there 😍
Hubnut at his absolute best. Love these videos. Such great variety.
That beach buggy with the massive rims must feel every pothole going!
Triumph Stags had a great weekend, there were loads of them at Coventry MotoFest.
Penscynor was a favorite of mine as a kid, my nan lived a few miles away in Skewen, many a happy memories of going down the toboggan. I will now be sourcing some stickers for my Classic Saab 900 and my Mini project
Ian these are the best type of HubbyNut vids 👍 plus it’s a long timed 🎉😃🏁🏁🏁
Fabulous presentation and narration as always. Your coverage of car shows is probably the "Carlsberg" of the classics.
Awesome show, thanks for sharing. Miss Hubnut is looking really lovely too.😊👍
Lovely video
Got to say the maestro was for me a totally underrated car, I owned one for a while and was sad to see it go
Thank you both flra great video! The Costin was fascinating & I had no idea this was the inspiration for Friends homebuild...like you I saw his vehicle when a youngster...it regularly got a mention in kit car magazine show reports.

Great show report, some real rare cars there. Best wishes.
Absolutely brilliant video Ian miss hubnut ❤👍absolutely spectacular classic cars brilliant
A nice car show. I had never heard of this Costin before, as you can see, always a surprise.
A purple Marina and a brown Allegro coming in at the same time. Be still, my beating heart!
I remember an uncle of mine buying a purple Marina: WVE 282L.
That Rover 75 Coupé is just gorgeous, and still looks like a contemporary car. I would have one in a heartbeat if they had been on general sale.
It really is a thing of beauty, isn't it?
Wow what a great turnout and wow a Costin too. Frank Costin was a pioneer in the art of using plywood as a structural material to build cars such as the early Marcos cars and the Costin Nathan GT. Perfect registration plate on that Boxster that passed you at the museum entrance!
Just found you on RUclips. You and your wife are a pleasure to watch. So funny. You brighten my day.
Nice show Ian. I wish they have classic cars like these in South Korea.
Nice to see so many local registrations.
Some of the rather vintage engines do sound very smooth and sweet, but then they were build with much heavier materials so there's a lot of well-balanced mass to keep them smooth... :)
Thanks Ian & Carly for taking us to another amazing car show! So nice to see all these different brands togheter! 🫶👍🏻👍🏻🆙
Great video, Ian. Loved all the cars.
I Friend Wood and his Tryane 2 back in the 90s, I think it was at a 2CV World Meeting. Great to see him again.
Sensory overload! Thank you, splendid episode.
some lovely motors there HubNuts and good to see the Triumph Snag owners out in force again.
Thanks Ian & Carly another great video. Some lovely cars on view, Gilberns, Karman Ghias. Lovely
A really really excellent video great variety of vehicles on show well done 👍👍👍

wow someone else who knows about Friend Wood and the Tryane.....awesome
Great content, as always. Always something I've never seen before.
Loved that Cortina Crusader. Someone should remanufacture those rear window flashes. You get get them for everything at the time!
another great video has always Ian and Carly miss/mrs hubnut and hublets and hubmutt 👍
Thanks both for your hard work with this one. Love the knowledge you’re sharing. Some cracking cars there. 😊

Hi Ian, only just found this video. BRILLIANT especially as you managed to get my Lomax in 😀
Some lovely Oily Rags 😥
Excellent thank you.... fantastic show 👍
Quite simply superb 👌🏻
I think I read that Costin made only three of those! I remember reading the review in Car Magazine in the 1970s when it was launched. I think it is even more astonishing now!
He only built one of these I think.
Beautiful MkII Zephyr at the beginning - the most rock 'n' roll classic imaginable (at least in the UK.)
In Australia the Ford Custom 49 was referred to as a 'Single Spinner' and it replacement was a 'Twin Spinner'. My Dad had a 53 Ford Customline V8 (anniversary model)which had been a police car ans was good for 100mph in an era when few id.
at around @15:00 i got a little concerned as i pictured a HubNut special as he wanders off down the motorway filming all the cars
Nice 😊
The 69 capri was purchased tax free in Germany because i was in the RAF. Picked it up from the port with 7 miles on the clock. When i left Germany i had to register in UK, thats why its got a K plate

That car is clearly Bluebird K7 😉
A superb video and a great show
Loved it great vid!
Can't remember the last time I saw a Mitsubishi FTO on the road - or Indeed a Penscynor sticker!
AY UP MR HUBNUT
1600GT badges were factory spec. on Mexico's with the factory stripe pack, cars with coachlines had México badges.
I assume the Costin is one of the very few cars that could fail MOT due to excessive woodworm.
Although the Gilbern Invader was a very low production car exhausts were easy... a friend had one & you simply put two cheap as chips 1600 Ford Escort mk2 systems onto it... one for each side of the 3L v6.

Love the Costin Auto Project 5. Reminds me a little of the Alfa Zagato Disco Volante and VW Sagitta.
I didn't make that very clear. Most Lomax kits were three wheelers. Wrenching Wench has one on here.
@@HubNut Thank You for explaining, i was googling it. 👍👍
@@gafrers for 4x4 2cv google Louis Barbour the go to person for them
2:38 that must be a quite rare car nowadays.
4:12 it's a 21 window Samba... quite expensive

I own that car its a 1969 capri 1600xl. purchased in Germany but when i returned to UK registered in 1971 Made in UK
The car of the show for me is the Costin.

Almost certainly Friend who owns the Blue Costin here. That Dyane was rebuilt into Tryane II I guess.
Thanks for that! Just searched Citroen Tryane and found a picture of a red Dyane looking front. I do remember, when I saw it, it was being driven very quickly which may explain the crash picture from a later date.

Will you guys be at the Shrewsbury Steam Rally in August?
That weekend is looking pretty hectic. Good show that.
I went to Penscynor! 🤣
I wonder how many of the Ford diesels ended up in boats? My friend's 24ft boat has one..
That Ford Custom might be Aussie built, would explain the RHD
Hey Ian, was that 1949 Ford Custom R Hand drive an Australian model? Seems to me they were a rarity
I never managed to catch the owner sadly.
Looking at the 240Z, did they copy the rear lights from the Capri Mk1 facelift or the other way around?
Nissan got there first.
Oh, metallic green all the way.
Very nice! My favourite of this show: the cute white and red french car at the end of the video…
♥️🚗💨🇫🇷♥️
Regarding the Stag V8, wasn't the Dolomite slant 4 derived from the V8? Otherwise, what would be the reason to have the slant 4?
Slant 4 offers a lower bonnet line, which is why Saab also used it. The V8 was developed from the four I believe.
@@HubNut Oh, of course, it was co-developed with Saab before the Stag was produced.
