This is my favorite video series on all of youtube, I do not have a CanLander deck but the format itches something just right in my brain
If you have tabletop simulator and a willing friend, there's expansions in the steam workshop for MtG so you can just import a decklist and play! I think at least Wheeler has public lists in moxfield.
I have built Canlander mostly because of this series (though I am proxying Moxen).

Of the ~25 of these I've watched, only once has Wheeler not pubstomped his opponent.
Three racehorses were in the stable waiting for the big race. Trying to psych each other out, they began bragging.
First horse, 'I've been in 38 races and have only lost twice.'
Second horse, 'Well, I've been in 47 races and have never lost.'
Third horse, 'Huh, I've never lost either and I even beat Secretariat twice.'
Just then, they heard a chuckle by the stable door, and there was a greyhound dog walking up to them.
The greyhound said, 'That's nothing. I've been in over 200 races and have won every one by at least 3 lengths.'
First horse, 'That's amazing - it's a talking dog!'
The version my family tells is only 2 horses, and it's at least 5 minutes long, and has the same punchline.

Glad to see Ben Ulmer remembers that nuts highlander game in Chicago as well as I do! I think that still stands as the hardest I've ever been bodied in a game of magic.
N100 showdown is hands down my favorite mtg content, thank you Wheeler and Nelson for the games, thank you Ben for the funny edits, they’re always very well crafted.

Auxiliary comment: I only have one friend who likes Canadian Highlander as much as I do, so this show is rapidly becoming inspiration and reflection of the two of us playing, except neither of us is as good as the people on this show

I might just be boomer, but not seeing Lingering Souls *or* Bitterblossom in a Mardu tokens list hurts me deep inside.
Lingering was a very recent cut but I think it's still fine. Blossom just is a bit too slow these days.

I had to look up what Tarmogoyf did, but that's ok, you guys are still awesome. In my defence I haven't really played since Ice Age.
Hi everyone, I'm back with more stats! Nelson has lost a die roll, bringing his North 100 Showdown die roll % down to 11%. Statistically, losing a die roll this often is even more unusual than the amount Wheeler wins them. Wheeler has once again won both the die roll and the match, bringing his overall win% and die roll % both up to 70 and his win% on the play to 77. Nelson has lost the match on the draw bringing his draw win% to 25, his overall win% to 22. In other news for excel nerds, I have finally moved my match-by-match breakdown out from underneath the stats readout, which is allowing me to apply my countif statements that I use to detect players to whole columns. The effect of this is that I can now add the players and outcome of each new game to my spreadsheet without updating any formulas.

Ok this is a question I’ve been thinking about for a while. Why don’t these lists run sweepers/board wipes? So frequently the winning deck comes about from a wide range of creatures. Yes, there’s very often artifacts and enchantments posing a threat but everything except combo would be hit hard. I think?
Both of the decks in this matchup really want to have board presence. It's rough running a card that hurts your own strategy so badly. Running a card that's bad against combo, bad when you're winning, bad when you're even, and also bad when you're just a little behind feels like the wrong choice
@@Sheer_Falacy to be fair, some gruul monsters lists run fiery confluence, but that's about as deep as they'll go beyond fury/pyro

I've watched several these North 100 videos. I'm thinking about getting into the format in paper and I have a friend who is interested as well. Does anyone know if there's been any top-level discussion about the future of Universes Beyond cards in Canadian Highlander? Neither of us mind playing against a handful of LOTR cards but we're both nervous about the release of the Marvel set and future non-fantasy IPs.

I've been playing A Lot of Gruul monsters lately and one card that has been Excellent™️ that I'm surprised isn't in the list is Headliner Scarlett. It's one of the few 4-drops that I play (QB, Hazoret, Undermountain/CoC Adventurers, Minsc & Boo being the others). Although my list is focused on almost everything having haste and is lower to the ground. Still, Headliner Scarlett is a HOUSE

As an Australian, hearing a Qantas Club reference really fucked with me for a second
I'll admit I have played only a single set of games of magic and didn't like playing it - likely more an issue with my chronic poor luck drawing cards - so I personally don't know what Tarmagoyf does, though I have heard the card name numerous times on the show. That being said, it doesn't take more than a moment for my external brain (aka Google) to show me if you don't, and I'm undoubtedly in the minority here, so no worries!
EDSC is like one of three good commander shows. But I agree, there isn't enough good two-player MTG gameplay.
