The S9 is so great. With the record limits gone it's a no brainer if you want a smaller camera with some killer features. I find myself using it more than my S5IIx lately for certain kinds of shoots.
I just received my S9 10 hours ago. I haven’t been able to put it down all day. This thing ROCKS! I can see myself using this over my S5IIX on a daily basis!
Loving these conversations! Upgraded my S5 to the S9 before the update as well for a B-cam, and the EDC style camera. IBIS is insane, portable form factor, and now unlimited recording (that wasn't a huge thing for me anyway). Haven't had any complaints on the S9 so far.
That Special Handle to route the HDMI cable is fire 🔥. My S9 is now in full Event rotation with my multiple S5 II (s). Super happy with LUMIX listening to Users.
I'm a Sony shooter, I'd love to try the S9 just for the stabilisation. I now shoot 100% vertical for social media (no YT work). My Tamron 20-40mm is never off my A7R5, so if Panasonic had a 20-40 even at F4, I'd definitely buy one to try out, the new zoom lens Panasonic has just released is just to slow, for my work. Also I shoot at 50 and 100fps in 1080, but this isn't available in open gate.
Love me the S9 and love that it can record with no limit but it has overheated every single time I have left it recording for more than 15 minutes on full 6K. I use it on professional shoots but I definitely do not use it as a stagnant cam cause of that issue.
this video is such a good timing for me. i was so confused to pick s5ii or S9. My brain told me to choose the s5ii because of the specs and all of that. but My heart choose the s9 ! because its such a casual camera yet it can be professional. + lightweight . Can you help me to answer this , i very concern about the lack of weather sealing and the overheating because there is no fan. should i be worry if i choose the s9. for context im kinda a 50% casual 50%professional videographer. not doing much outdoor. but i think having a weather sealed seems like a long term camera ( but i will sacrifice the weight if i choose the s5 ) and based on your experience how long does it takes for the s9 to overheat ? thanks ! love your content.
For sure! Honestly, if you are doing professional work, and weather sealing is any remote concern. The s5ii will be the way to go. The S9 is more fun to shoot with (in my experience) but if I had only to pick one the S5ii easy. I have a whole video actually on my channel of the S5ii vs S9 btw
It really is sad how understimated and overlooked Lumix cameras are. They really offer amazing quality/features to price ratio but everyone just talk Sony and Canon.
I just need to know one thing before I buy this camera. Can you shoot in Vlog for max dynamic range and then apply a rec709 lut and then another stylized lut baked in? Essentially removing the need for post processing with a computer.
Okay well yes you can shoot in vlog with custom profile and then add two luts. However you are not getting the max dynamic range because then at that point you are shooting in a rec709 with a baked lut into the footage. Shooting in vlog and editing in pay is how you get the max dynamic range. Now another quirky work flow on the S5iiX is if you shoot in real time lut but you turn off the lut. Then you record proxy videos and you have the real time lut turn on. So your high quality 4K footage is in vlog for post editing. But a 1080 proxy video will have baked in color. Downside you can only shoot in 4@ 24, 30, & 60fps for this. So yes technically with either of the cameras that work flow with two luts work. However you do not get the max dynamic range as if you edited in post.

If you think Lumix is overlooked, try being a Fuji shooter lol

What camera did you use to film yourself?

@ thank you for the in depth response I definitely be hitting that subscribe. Appreciate it brother.
Will the Lumix S9 heat up if I record video in 1080p for 4 hours of events?
4 straight hours? If so most likely yes. That is a lot of stress on any camera
