UK's most powerful warship Type 45 destroyer gets more weapon power upgrade

The Royal Navy’s Type 45, or Daring class, destroyers will receive additional surface-to-air missiles as part of a weapons refit, marking a major increase in firepower for the warships. Once the new Sea Ceptor weapons are fitted, the six Type 45s, which provide area defense for the U.K.’s Carrier Strike Group, among other duties, will increase their air defense missile payloads by 50 percent.

This is a surprise. Coming from UK MOD, I'd have expected them to remove whatever weapons it already have. Rather than give them some new ones.

Nice , but still no surface to surface or ballistic missile defences

Sea Ceptor has a surface to surface role. Closer in you have the 30mm DS30s and 20mm Phalanx. Not to mention the Wildcat helicopter equipped with Martlet and Sea Venom missiles.
It was also confirmed that the Aster missiles will be upgraded, it is very likely that this means they will get a ballistic missile defence capability.

In November 2022, it was announced that the Royal Navy will receive the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) to replace Harpoon, which will be fitted to Type 45 destroyers.

Remember, these missiles are not chasing the jets or the antiship missiles, they are intercepting them as the come in.

what we need is common sense thinking. is to keep up with Russia and china make an all round missile that can travel 1000 miles.. and put them on all our fleet make one million stock. all these different missiles make fare more common sense to just have one sort

Sea ceptor ( CAMM) is a short range air defense, so it obviously inferior to the Barak 8 but both systems are not comparable one is for short range interceptions while the other is for long range
