The engine issues on Type 45 have been largely addressed. Because you're such a good reviewer, I think it's great that you look at other combat systems. 8000 tonnes. I love the way the MOD and the USN have found a way to avoid government budget "triggers" by calling what is clearly (to a Navy guy) a missile cruiser a "Destroyer"
The classic was in the 1970s when HMS Invincible was "officially" classified as a Through Deck Cruiser. Blind Freddy could see it was an aircraft carrier.
7 лет назад
French navy labels all their destroyers as frigates And even large destroyers , like the Suffren Class (Equivalent to the T-82 Bristol) were called "frigates"
Great video. Very interesting. Mandatory thank :D I know a ton of people imply you to cover a ton of equipment and I bet you already have a loooong list. But I would love you to speak a little about the German Saxony Class Frigate (that is actually more of a small destroyer). Of course right now it isn't as impressive anymore as it was when it appeared on the oceans for the first time but it is still a top tier ship. And since I live in Dresden, Saxony and the flagship of the Saxony Class is called Dresden... well I might be biased about it :P
As Lewis Page pointed out in his book a little while ago now: for the price of a couple of these jobs you could have a decent-sized aircraft carrier replete with fighter jets and airborne radar. He goes on to suggest that not only could this more likely, better-protect the fleet from air attack than a type 45 but that it might also prove able to do some other stuff too. Now obviously, it would be great to have both and perhaps some day we will but in the meantime, sensibly, we have not bankrupted our naval budget reinventing the wheel but have developed some cutting-edge technology which we may well be able to trade at a future date for some actual, proven, capability should the need ever arise. eg- The Americans will probably lend-lease us a Nimitz or two if we have to back them but are, as always, laughably short of muscle and they'll be glad of a type 45 or two when the kamikazes come back.....etc,....etc😂
I think that the major reason why the Navy (of both the US and the UK) play such a large role in humanitarian aid mission is because they can get to the trouble spot the quickest with the most supplies. Sure, the Air Force (USAF and RAF) could get there faster but they wouldn't be able to carry as much supplies or personnel, but a ship will get there a bit later but will be carrying a lot more supplies and personnel with them. With larger ships like carriers and even USN amphibs you have the added benefit of acting as a floating hospital since they have full medical and dental suites onboard.
I like all the inside behind the scenes footage you can sometimes forget that people are on these weapon systems and just focus on numbers.and a warship is a huge weapon system

ARRESTEDPAIN it’s because Canada’s armed forces its systems and higher command are a joke. I’m trying to join them and I’m slowly losing faith and hope in doing so.
Don't lose faith man. The military procurement in Canada has always been broken. That includes the ridiculous wait times for new recruits. I've met a lot of people who said it was worth the wait though. The training and attention make up for the shoddy equipment and lack of iq in the higher branches of the military.
That's rough man. Have you been pestering your recruiter? I know that some people get their applications 'lost.' TBH the whole system needs to be revamped or staffed. 4 years without an answer is a disgrace.
The Daring class of destroyers existed during the 1950's to 70's. They were a great looking ship to with 2 twin 4.5 guns on the bow and a singleton 4.5 on the stern. The Type 45 are known as the Derring class and apart from its engine problem is the best Destroyer in the west. The UK Minister when questioned about Deering being tide up advised that it didn't have to leave port to be able to attack all of Europe and Russia and its defence system was able to defend the UK.
Wayne, the Type 45 is known as the Daring class not the Deering class. Just as the Type 31's are (at the present moment in time) going to be the new Leander class frigates. The RN recycles names and classes of ship. I.E. the Queen Elizabeth class battleship of 1915. Now we have the Queen Elizabeth class of aircraft carriers. In 1915 the RN had the Invincible class off battle cruiser, then we had the Invincible class of aircraft carrier.
Question: Why this destroyer doesn't carry anti-ship and anti-surface Missiles ? Without these Missiles, this ship is vulnerable against surface or ship attacks
@@AdityaChaseFan She have 2xQuad Harpoon launchers. The tubes are kinda concealed to improve the stealth of the ship. Ever saw that before but i forgot. Maybe slightly behind those VLS silo ? Frankly speaking, anti air ship is the most luxurious jewel at any navy. Dont take US Navy as a standard tho lul. China only have a handful of them and only a few among those is truly long range. For the ship presence at the ocean is truly an anti air umbrella not just a self defence system. MANPADS is a no. USN and JSDF using Standard missile for long range anti air, anti ballistic, also anti ship weapon system. Im impressed with the versatility of this missile. Indonesia only has Sigma class capable to shoot VLS Mica, they carry too few and the missile itself is too, short ranged. Although we have a lot of anti ship corvette and frigates.
Personally I think the Horizon class that this vessel stole a lot of technology from is better looking similarly armed, cheaper and infinitely more reliable than the Type 45. If the Royal Navy had stuck with Italy and France with the Horizon project they could have had their full complement of 12 ships. Moreover if the UK had maintained that cooperation that Italy and France have the FREEM frigates (which are basically mini destroyers) would have given the UK a viable alternative for the Type 23 Frigates.
I read an article a couple of years ago concerning the United Kingdoms ability to defend the Falkland Isles against another potential invasion from Argentina. And the crux was a single Type 45 could do the job of five Type 42s. The ability to track every combat aircraft in the whole of South America let alone Argentina. Couple that with the other assets on the islands, think there'd be OK.
The size of the ships crew on Naval ships compared to civilian Merchant Navy vessels is huge. For example, the Type 42 DDG had over 300 people on board, whereas a similar length and width cargo ship would have 10-20.
Hey it's your channel do what you want. I was just letting you know so the "It's a gaming channel not a review channel" guys know it ain't that simple. I just skip over the gaming stuff and watch the reviews. They should skip the reviews and watch the gaming stuff.
Could they still build a couple more Type-45s? Six seems a small number given two plus frigates would escort each carrier. Other duties and maintenance would mean a lot of stress on six hulls and their crews.
Your appreciation regarding the WR21 Gas Turbine, it's recuperator and intercooler, the power turbine and generally the whole propulsion system is poor. This ship has an Integrated All Electric Propulsion system. The WR21s and two Wartsila Diesel Generators provide power for this system.
Man, i miss when we had a huge battleship with big guns, nowadays warships are tiny Destroyers, Frigates, and Corvettes (with exception Aircraft Carrier)
CORRECTION REQUIRED - All six type 45s were assembled and launched at BAe Govan then fitted out at BAe Scotstoun. Govan is on the south bank of the river Clyde while Scotstoun is on the north bank. The two yards are only about a mile or so apart.
The Type 45 is a very modern and impressive ship, but I think the armament is still a bit thin. They should really have, 1) A solid tested replacement for Harpoon in the next 5 years, possibly up the gun size from 4.5" to 5", upgrade the VLS so they can carry cruise missiles like Tomahawks and LRASM, and if they really want to they could look into deck torpedo's like what the Type 23's have. If the Type 45 is going to be the UK's largest surface warship and escort the fleet carriers, for the next 30 years then they need to have cruiser like armaments, like the US and Russia have for example.
The Type 45 is a very good Destroyer, but it badly needs other weapons for other roles apart from AAW. Yes, some have the Harpoon anti-ship missiles............but this is so old now it would very unlikely get past any defences of today's top warships! Having been onboard a Type 45 there is certainly lots of space to add weapons!
It sounds like a ship that the UK can be proud of. A real technical marvel. It sounds like a floating arial denial system that makes the Russian systems look like play ground equipment. It would be nice if it had detection equipment other than advanced radar.
I wonder why no navy has ever worked on or even investigated "Metal Storm" weapons technology for use as a CIWS against anti-ship missiles. It is a matrix/array of dozens or greater electrically-fired gun tubes that can fire from pistol-caliber to rifle-caliber and higher bullets. This technology debuted from a small R&D firm over a decade ago. I thought it didn't have much practical use for land forces, but I always thought it would be ideal for defending from and defeating inbound missiles at close-range. Whereas a CIWS such as the Phalanx tracks a missile with radar, aims, and fires a stream of 7.62 mm or similar caliber bullets at incoming missiles, the "Metal Storm" devices nearly-instantly shoot a "wall" of bullets outward all at once after being electrically triggered. Think of it as like a massive shotgun that can send a square or rectangular sheet of bullets toward one or multiple incoming missiles or munitions. I think blue-water navies around the world would benefit from researching and developing this technology as a last-line of defense for when there are too many incoming missiles for the CIWS guns to defeat. Modern naval adversaries will usually try to overwhelm a ship's CIWS system by launching dozens, if not more ASM missiles from multiple vectors at high speed. The "Metal Storm" array could be tied to the CIWS radar network and triggered if any projectile crosses within a set distance, it seems like it would be a great solution to enemy saturation attacks with missiles. Anyone else heard of that technology before? Care to comment? :)

The classic was in the 1970s when HMS Invincible was "officially" classified as a Through Deck Cruiser. Blind Freddy could see it was an aircraft carrier.
French navy labels all their destroyers as frigates
And even large destroyers , like the Suffren Class (Equivalent to the T-82 Bristol) were called "frigates"
Great video. Very interesting.
Mandatory thank :D
I know a ton of people imply you to cover a ton of equipment and I bet you already have a loooong list.
Now obviously, it would be great to have both and perhaps some day we will but in the meantime, sensibly, we have not bankrupted our naval budget reinventing the wheel but have developed some cutting-edge technology which we may well be able to trade at a future date for some actual, proven, capability should the need ever arise. eg-
The Americans will probably lend-lease us a Nimitz or two if we have to back them but are, as always, laughably short of muscle and they'll be glad of a type 45 or two when the kamikazes come back.....etc,....etc😂
10:59 Awe come on +Matsimus Gaming ... He delivered that line perfectly dead pan.
You've got to give him credit for that. :D
A very handsome ship. Let's hope the hype holds up under the realities of conflict.
Good Video, the Type 45 is a truly awesome Ship!
Try to do a missile special.
Barack vs Aster vs Rim.
American vs Russian.
Don't forget the sudafrican Denel with the Umkoto series.
That’s so cool! I think that’s interesting; how they construct the ship in modules...
I like all the inside behind the scenes footage you can sometimes forget that people are on these weapon systems and just focus on numbers.and a warship is a huge weapon system
yay i wasn't the only one who thought that guy was a thwat for making that comment about the missile lol and thanks for the video dude really enjoyed it, hope to see you make some more on other ships too :D
Ah, I love arriving home to another matsimus video
Thats a great thing to hear. Glad you like them :-)
got to go on hms diamond a few years back, great ship
I wish canada would add some destroyers to our fleet. These seem very advanced and well suited to northern patrols (no warm water there).
ARRESTEDPAIN I just don’t have that mojo like I did. Waiting 4 years to serve due to some people’s other incompetence is bitter pill to swallow
That's rough man. Have you been pestering your recruiter? I know that some people get their applications 'lost.' TBH the whole system needs to be revamped or staffed. 4 years without an answer is a disgrace.
ARRESTEDPAIN it’s a very long story. All out of my control but yeah it’s disgraceful
Nice video mate. Ever think about doing a vid on the boxer ifv?
Thank you for a very good review.
Question: Why this destroyer doesn't carry anti-ship and anti-surface Missiles ? Without these Missiles, this ship is vulnerable against surface or ship attacks
because the type 45 is focused on protecting the fleet. Leave sinking to aircraft, subs and frigates while making sure they don't sink.
It has anti ship missiles!
@@theancientsancients1769 where?
This is an old clip! Check new deployments of HMS Dragon
Keep the videos coming!! your great at them and you clearly have a gift 😎forget those game vids 👌👍
I saw the original Daring class. A friend served aboard HMS DUCHESS...big changes in the UK
Good Video, your reviews are great
Would love to see your opinions on the upcoming Type 26 Frigate for our RN. Once again though, Amazing video Matsimus 👌🏻🇬🇧
Hi Matsimus, I really love yout intros!
Julius Juliussen thanks :-) glad you do!!
Ahhh that is so cool. They build the ship in parts like legos :).
HMS Daring had their mid deployment break in JBPHH a few years back. I was the one guiding their Lynx Helicopter to landing pad in MCBH. XD
Love your video's. Impressive stuff
thanks :-)
look it has a cute party hat :D
xXE4GLEyEXx it’s a party hat with a radar, at the end of the day the Type 45 mixes style with detection
Indeed. Visari did nothing wrong.
Couple that with the other assets on the islands, think there'd be OK.
fantastic; but for gods sake we want and should have more, more!!!!
The size of the ships crew on Naval ships compared to civilian Merchant Navy vessels is huge.
For example, the Type 42 DDG had over 300 people on board, whereas a similar length and width cargo ship would have 10-20.
I served on a Type 42 HMS Newcastle, would’ve loved to serve on a Type 45
Sadly we now down to 19 surface ships bloody ridiculous
Just so you know, there are at least some of us that are members of your channel for the reviews like this one rather than the gaming stuff.
I know, I am trying my best to please both.....not too easy. sorry
Hey it's your channel do what you want. I was just letting you know so the "It's a gaming channel not a review channel" guys know it ain't that simple. I just skip over the gaming stuff and watch the reviews. They should skip the reviews and watch the gaming stuff.
can it run crysis tho?
Haha!!
I would love to see a review on the 7 provinciën klasse (class) of the Royal Netherlands Navy.
More navy please ?
Awesome video
Could they still build a couple more Type-45s? Six seems a small number given two plus frigates would escort each carrier. Other duties and maintenance would mean a lot of stress on six hulls and their crews.
Type 45 is a good class of ship. The US Navy should have bought a few.
Great video and info.
Good ship. That's because is based on our Fincantieri project :)
Awesome, I'll take two of them 😀
Your appreciation regarding the WR21 Gas Turbine, it's recuperator and intercooler, the power turbine and generally the whole propulsion system is poor.
More Naval stuff please! :D
Feck excellent vid bud !
any thoughts about the Type 23 class?
When I went on HMS Daring with sea cadets it was undergoing a radar refit.
Where did you serve ? I find your videos geeking ! I'm a ex commando 10 years and am now serving with the RTR. Ajax please 🙏 I love what you are doing ! x
Good video all round.
This ship, at 8000 tons , is actually a powerful light cruiser.
Looking forward to when you start on the Kirov-class battlecruisers
The original engines also ran on avgas, rather than marine diesel, which made them more expensive to refuel and meant they couldn't take from the main tank of an RFA.
Great Video! Please do Indian Navy Kolkata-class destroyer next. Thank you!
