    I can’t believe how well your boards turned out. I had an Alaskan mill and I wasn’t do much better than what you do freehand. Very impressive, you’re definitely one talented individual, an artist with a chainsaw.

    • @skoteoutdoors
      @skoteoutdoors  Год назад +17

      Thanks Rich... it takes a little practice but it's easier than it looks. Real trick is to cut mainly with the tip of the saw and try to maintain an even swing always moving the saw back and forth

You showed us all how its possible, the amount of saving our time if ever wanna do this ourselves one day is atleast 70 %. Somebody in the comments wrote this vid is the best ever, I fully agree. Loved watching this video! I was glad to see that this was actually a large livable cabin, most videos are just a little shelter or maybe a vacation/hunting cabin.
    I would havee been interested in seeing if the loft upstair could have been turned into a useful space, even if just for the bed and some storage.
    Likewise, it would be cool if there was a way to mount a flat metal surface on top of the wood burning stove, if even only to have a pot of boiling water, or heat some things up without having to use any other power or gas. Boiling snow for a steady supply of water in the winter also wouldnt hurt, depending on what facilities and such you have already

    Hmmmm Poles as building blocks is interesting. Composite materials are something id be interested in using in order to build a house to alleviate demand on wood supply. if a pole is capable of being wound as a carbon fiber part it could be ordered in specific lengths and filled with foam for insulation. The Carbon/Fiberglass part would look just like a wooden log as you are using here. Fiberglass and carbon as sheets or lumber to build in the same style is a traditional stick and frame house doesnt work with issues regarding to screwing or nailing and the use of adhesives. A likin log approach would solve a majority of these issues. Poles would be easy to ship and a house/shelter could be assembled in as little as a week with interior to follow.

    The only time I built a log cabin. I used Lincoln logs. It was epic. Why did you remove the bark from the trees? Almost every log cabin I have seen, the bark was left on. You have mad skills!

    • @skoteoutdoors
      @skoteoutdoors  Год назад +4

      It's alot simpler to build than many people might think. The reason I take the bark off is to help preserve the logs. Here if you leave the bark on the log and then let the log dry out, over time it will begin to rot. Much much faster than if the bark is removed. Also if the bark is left on, once it begins to dry out the bark will slowly flake off and fall inside the cabin creating a constant mess. Just by removing the bark a bare log like this will last many years, there are more primitive techniques that can be done to these logs to preserve even further also.
