Hello from Russia! Every time I watch your videos, I admire the unquenchable enthusiasm. I would like to be the same as you in old age. Thanks for the video and many years in good health!
Gil Hebard lived next door to my grandparents, i knew he used to shoot all the time but never knew the extent of how mich he pioneered in the bullseye world. He passed by the time i was really into guns. Turns out he had a range in his basement

When I turned 21 years ago I bought a Model 28 Highway Patrolman with a 5” barrel (budget Model 27) for my first hand gun. Someone stole it out of my apartment two years later. I eventually ended up buying a 686 to replace it.
The Model 27 with a 5” barrel was the first gun I ever bought, waaay back in the day. That was Skeeter Skelton’s gun and I had to have one. Still have it!
" I'm gonna hit that pin in the center".........How many people can say that and do just that? I love Jerry's way of positivity, and heck yeah, he knows just where it will hit........
I loved this, in part because my most valued revolver is an early 1970’s M27 (N Frame - of course - five-inch barrel, pinned and recessed, and 3T’s). It’s a superb example of the art, quality, and craftsmanship of Springfield artisans.
Jerry is just an amazing guy. I laughed when talked about shooting that pin out near the edge to "spin it". Most of us would be happy just hitting a bowling pin at the distance he was shooting. A S&W Model 19 4" barrel I bought in 1972 was the first handgun I owned---and I still have it. I have several other handguns but my Model 19 is still my favorite to shoot.
In January of 1976 I bought my wife a model 10 blued 4 inch 38 special! It was 119$ and some change fine gun very accurate had the Guy who worked on Jackson police officers guns do a trigger job on it!
I absolutely love your videos especially the ones like this where you talk about the past. I would've really enjoyed being able to watch you compete back then. So thankful you shoot these videos and let us watch. God bless you all
Beautiful old Smiths. I bought my first revolver 1985 which was a S&W mod. 29 10 5/8" barrel. This started an avalanche of S&W revolver purchases in our house.
I bought a model 28 6" in 1981. It was about $100 less than a mod 27, which was a lot of difference back then, and I was buying it as a shooter/carry gun, so the beautiful bluing wasn't going to be blue long anyway. I love the counterbored cylinders, wish they still made them that way. No where near 200,000 rounds through it, and magnum ammo back then sure seemed hotter that it is today, so it should last about a century longer bebore the barrel needs to be set back.😉
There sure was a lot of innovative ammo for shooting bowling pins back in the day, besides his model 27 some used the 29 44 mag, every kind of bullet design you can imagine but the real secret was hitting the pins in just the right spot so they left the table and didn't just spin around on top. Your time didn't stop until the last pin hit the ground so some guys went with brute force and heavy loads and some with medium loads that you could shoot faster, those were the days as the saying goes.
The first time I’ve heard of that load for 38 Special in a magnum gun. Look forward to more wheel gun vids. I recently went back to 38spc 148gr WC to target practice ...during trying ammo times
I just bought a model 29 silhouette about 2 months ago. Saw it in a LGS with the presentation box for 900$ and had to have it. It's probably 95% condition... lots of fun, my second 44 mag. Love it.
I wish I had one of his revolvers just to say to all my buddy's I own a true piece of history. Hopefully his guns will make it to the Smithsonian and museums around the world for all to enjoy and drool over after this great legend crosses over.
A friend used to load hollow-base wadcutters he cast from wheel weight (harder than the typical HBWC) backwards at +P velocities for pin shoots. They sharp edge bit in and didn't glance off on edge hits like most other bullet designs. This was before the Kaswer Pin-Grabbers were available. Recoil was mild, and accuracy was excellent.
My first handgun was a 4" model 28. I later got a 6" version and used that to compete in what was then known as AZ Combat Pistol League. I later switched to a 1911 because no revolver category and they would set up a 7 shot stage almost every time. Later stopped competing entirely due to the gamesmanship and high dollar guns necessary to be competitive. I competed with my duty weapon and belt in the last 5 years I was there.
I like Wheel Gun Wednesday. Would be fun to see you chronograph the old, factory .357 Magnum ammo. Maybe hotter than what we purchase today. Not too surprising the soda can didn't like the .357 load.

Back in the day, I shot in a compilation and the 9mm FMJ would not knock them over, but for a few exceptions. I was shooting a Sig 220 (45 ACP) made in West Germany and it would knock everyone over regardless of impact area.
I just picked up a Lyman 158gr 4 cavity mold I’m very new to casting and reloading. It would definitely be cool if you could expand on that load you use back in the day.
Mr. Jerry, I would be interested to know what drills a pro shooter would recommend using a shoulder holster. My EDC is a Beretta PX4 Storm full size 17rd magazine and my goal is to become more proficient should a need arise.
@@richardvoss77 only if you want to but not necessary. We don’t use typically use them for pistol. Only when practicing shotgun or revolver reloads mainly.
The original 357 was designed for 8 3/8 barrels, back in the 30s, and even in the 60s and 70s back when you could get a ammo catalog from Remington and Winchester, federal, etc...they gave the ballistics and bbl length...357 was always 8 3/8.

Only Jerry can laugh and grin as he shoots a priceless gun with priceless ammo!!!
And get away with it.... as that's just Jerry being Jerry 😂😂
He’s earned it.
Old Smith’s never die thanks Jerry
Nor do they just fade away ;)

I used to get Gil's catalog and I had (and read) The Pistol Shooters Treasury. Thanks for the memories.
Me too. I still have the book somewhere. Jerry's copy looked in great shape

@po18guy yep, that's about what I paid for my very first handgun when I was 18, a mod. 28, 6 inch in '71. And I still have it to this day too.
This man is a wealth of knowledge. I always enjoy watching him and learning things. I also share his love for revolvers. Great video thanks
The Model 27 with a 5” barrel was the first gun I ever bought, waaay back in the day. That was Skeeter Skelton’s gun and I had to have one. Still have it!
I loved reading Skeeter’s articles ,I think in Shooting Times, as a young boy.

200.000 rounds trough one gun of many..... testament to the level of training jerry has endure and the durability of those smiths. awesome.
Takes me back. Pin shooting has disappeared for decades in Washington state. It was the most fun of any of the games
In January of 1976 I bought my wife a model 10 blued 4 inch 38 special! It was 119$ and some change fine gun very accurate had the Guy who worked on Jackson police officers guns do a trigger job on it!
Fun to watch someone that really enjoys shooting.

Jerry is the Dean of revolver shooting the best in the world for this lost art of shooting.

I won a glock 17 shootin bowling pins with a mod 25 smith. Was a proud boy.
Thankful to have been able to observe and learn from the best over the years. TY Jerry.
I have full respect for this guy. +He even manages to get more subs than most youngsters nowadays.
Its cause he is real.
Thanks for renewing some old memories! Still occasionally carry a wheel gun!
I still love a revolver. My Dad had a .357 Ruger GP100 and that's how I learned to shoot. No guns now, we lost them decades ago in the UK 😔
I've seen those old "Pin Grabber" ammo before and those bullets looked wicked

Mr. Jerry you makes remember great times and made me feel at the same time old. Right on bro!
👉👍👈🖖
I forget sometimes that Jerry is also a machinist. No problems working on his guns.
The property he lives on besides having that huge range is also the home of Clark Custom Guns so he has access to everything he needs right next door.
@@CCW1911 I did not know that. Thanks for the information.
I clicked faster than jerry can say”get some”
but, not faster than he can pull the trigger.

I'll never let my 5" barreled 27 go that I purchased on 7/7/77,lucky day,a favorite revolver.

Great video Jerry. Thanks for the history lesson. You always have some interesting information

The knowledge and experience this man has!!!!!
Nice to see revolvers still out playing. My old 686-2 is one of my favorites to shoot

interesting history on using these old S&W's in competition
Wow, I was going to go looking to see if Jerry did a revolver video. Jerry is the man! He stay on point!
Back in the 80s, I started shooting IHMSA with a .357. I learned quickly that 158 grain bullets didn’t do well against the 200 meter ram.
Actually very informational video.
I would have never thought of getting the PIN to spend to pick up speed getting off the table
You and Hickok 45 hold it down with those guns 👍
So many components...so many...... jealous.
My first pistol was a little revolver 5 years old still have it. And then my dad bought me my Smith & Wesson 357 Magnum favorite gun.
I might not like revolvers much, but when I see a Miculek, I watch.
I like it better when Jerry says "get some" at the end !
He always says to get some, but he never says HOW to get some. I don't know the location of my nearest some retailer.
Love the T shirt 👍

Marry his daughter.....hehe, good luck with that!
It would be cool as hell though!
Jerry's shirt should read "got me some".
For $275.00 you couldn't pay for the three boxes of ammo today.

That ammo in the background is making me very jealous

Watch his tv show. Its crazy lol
Thanks Jerry
I miss pin shooting. I haven't been able to find a pin match in my area for years.

Hi Jerry. I met you at Second Chance in 1997 or 1998. I forget which. 1998 was the last year. Have you been back since it started up again?
I want a 357 to shoot should I get a Ruger GP 100 or a S&W 586 ?
