I don't shoot, I actually never held a firearm... but I like watching any kind of people that are passionate about their profession showing their skill and sharing knowledge. I love Jerry's videos and I miss them when he takes a break. Please, keep them coming!
This is really great, educational content! I've always had the idea that moon clips were just a little piece of sheet metal that held cartridges together. I never knew there was so much knowhow to them. Admittedly I've never been a huge revolver guy, but I always enjoy learning new things. Thanks, Jerry. We love you!
We "Get Some", every time you release a video brother. Thank you for honoring us with your representation in the public sphere. You are a great ambassador for 2A Liberty.
It is nice we have people like Jerry willing to past his knowledge to who wants it. He had help me out for the videos I watch of him. Looking forward for more .
I have had one or another 45 ACP Smith revolver since 1981, and you do not need a tool to load and unload the clips, technique is enough. I rarely use half moons anymore. I love the 2 shot clips in snake country for shot loads. My main use of guns is as an outdoorsman, and I love the clips as they make it very hard to lose brass.
The ruger lcr moon clips are spring steel but made in such as way that the rounds are well retained but also easily installed and removed from the clip. They are patented and IMO a game changer in moon clip design.
Moon clips come from the 1917 revolvers when General Pershing wanted to arm as many soldiers as possible with .45s but there weren't enough 1911s to go around. First they were half moon clips for 3 rounds, then GI ingenuity started welding two clips to load 6 rounds at once.
Moon clips weren't invented to be speedloaders. They were created to serve as an artificial rim for rimless cartridges. That's why actual speedloaders are more durable and failsafe than moon clips.
Pretty neat. I had a 625 a while back and the clip loader i had was cracked. I mailed it back to the manufacturer and never got it back. Have since sold the gun and had forgotten about that loader until just now. Ha
I picked up a 1925 Webley that was rechambered for 45 ACP, but didn't shoot it much because I am afraid of bending the clips. Thanks for showing me how to get that gun back into action Jerry.
I use TK Custom stainless steel moon clips exclusively. My 460V X-frame five inch muzzle brake equipped barrel 5-shot revolver. To hold and shoot 45 ACP but 460 Rowland, 45 Super and 45 Winchester magnum ammunition using Starline brass. And I can still use 460 S&W magnum, 454 Casull, all 45 Colt and even 45 Schofield if you can find it.
Look at all that ammo behind him! For some reason I have acquired quadruple the amount of 45 ACP ammo over the years compared to all the other calibers I own. Now I’m gonna buy a 45 ACP AR-15 because it’s cheaper to buy a gun then to buy 5.56 or 9mm for my other AR rifle platforms. Wife’s gonna love me when I come home with that.
Take her with you and let her pick out a gun for herself. Problem solved! My wife never complains about me buying a gun. She does occasionally ask me to take a 2 week break from the gun shop but, only after I have gone a little bit overboard. Keep your wife happy and she'll be okay with you getting your 45 AR
I have a friend who is friends with Jerry! (I think that makes me almost cool). I was out shooting with my friend, and it was the first time i'd seen moon clips. this guy is by far the fasted wheel gun shooter in my area and he used them exclusively. he had a few sitting near his ammo bag, and i picked one up curious how it worked. i picked up an empty case and started to touch the brass to the clip when my friend BOOMS at me "DON'T TOUCH THAT!" Lol i almost peed myself. he explained that even playing with a moon clip on its own can warp it, making it unusable and trying to load a metal one by hand is impossible and will always lead to ruining the clip. he explained that once the clip is bent AT ALL he throws them out because they never return to perfectly flat no matter what you do (heat, dead blow hammer, ball peen, etc). mishandling a loaded moon clip makes it even easier to bend them too because you get extra leverage lol. it left an impression. but dang, this guy was lightning with the clip. literally faster than i could reload any type of firearm. he eventually went to stock semi auto pistol (a big para .45) because he had no competition in wheel gun and easily got first place in every match.
Hey Jerry those polymer moon clips are still around. My friend Scott Beckham designed and makes them for many S&W platforms like 625, 25, 610, 686 etc. Years ago we met you at Shot Show and introduced them to you. They are called RIMZ MOONCLIPS. I’m not sure Scott is maintaining his website Beckham Designs these days as his health has declined. Many of the distributors carry his products however. As you mentioned they load very easy by hand and are almost impossible to wear out.
Hi Jerry, awesome video and channel! I'm looking to get a S&W 627, would you recommend to get cylinder chamber chamfered for moon clips? If yes 20 degree or 45 degree, what depth? Thank you in advance, stay safe and healthy, cheers from Canada!
I run with 2, model 64s that I had gunsmith-ed to accept moon clips and use your grips on these, plus many others. I also changed to serrated triggers. I also have one model 627. I like the two 64s due to the sights, and that is why I did them. I use a pre-made tube to unload them. I can only run Remington brass which limits me. That is the only gripe. Do you find that some brass works better then others? I am saving this video for future reference, you gave me an idea or two I might try down the road. Thank you, lots of information here, some I knew and some I didn't!!!
The problem with the polymer clips is that they don't like heat. I've found that the acp rounds load better than 38 or other rimmed cartridges. For straightening my moon clips I just used flat concrete and a ball peen hammer. Thanks for the dollar store golf club pointer. I need to make me one of those.
Hey Jerry (Great Video ~ Thanks), who makes that "Black" Moon Clip Loading Tool, with your name on it (?) ... been trying to find one (Black), just like that one; TK Custom makes similar ones in blue. I scanned all the comments, hoping someone had already asked this question, but not. I proudly own & love a S&W 686-7 in .38 Super, originally designed for moon clips (2003).
I wish they would of standardized the groove on the case. One manufacturer will be tight as hell and another the cartridge will fall out of the moon clip.
There's single action, double action, and Jerry action! 🎯 🇺🇲
But what about the full semi automatic?
@@bmstylee jerry on slow.
@@bmstylee seriously bro? Do even you know what semi automatic means?

Jerry has more ammo in that room than every gun store combined in the state of Illinois
Ha! True for Wyoming as well.
Somehow I bet there is plenty of ammo in Chicago. When I start to hear about drive by arrow shootings....then there’s a serious shortage.
And thats just one wall. Imagine the other three.
@@richmondbailey We don't talk about the fourth wall.
Yeah and if you find any it’s way overpriced
Always good to get tips from the master. Thanks Jerry! Have a great day! 👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸
Learned more about moon clips in that video than the rest of my life .. Jerry is the best. Simple.
You're a good man, Jerry. Thank you for teaching us.

I like the use of the POV camera. It eliminates blind spots for the viewer.
I just love my 625 JM, there's something fun about loading and unloading moon clips. Great video!
Cool stuff. I'm not a revolver shooter and had no idea that stuff existed til this vid.
Gotta love that walking encyclopedia, Jerry.
Thank you Jerry. I’ve never seen moon clips explained in this detail!
Jerry, never change . This information is great .
Judging by the sheer amount of ammo behind this guy id say hes got his priorities straight. Good on ya ole man. Good on ya.

I would like to know who built those shelves. Perfectly straight with some substantial weight. Well done!
My favorite tool for the moon clips in my 625 is the BMT Mooner. Makes them a breeze to load and unload.
God bless you Jerry. I've used your tips to great success on the range, and self defense.
From an old Rook player, Shot the Moon Mr. Jerry, Shot the Moon!! So informative, thanks again to the knowledge sharing.
Thank you for the information I never owned a revolver that had moon clips but been looking at on recently.
Moon clips come from the 1917 revolvers when General Pershing wanted to arm as many soldiers as possible with .45s but there weren't enough 1911s to go around. First they were half moon clips for 3 rounds, then GI ingenuity started welding two clips to load 6 rounds at once.
This is a great video, Very interesting. I had no idea! Thank you.
Also, a bent moon clip acts like a spring to absorb the hammer blow and can cause misfires. I had this happen with a 9mm revolver.
Moonclips are meant to be disposable. I mean cmon! They’re literally just a flat piece of material with some cuts in them to load and eject rounds.
True they are only designed for 4-5 uses per Smith and Wesson armorers
@@mkendall8393 Wow, didn't know that one. The more ya know, I guess.
They could make them out of titanium-but that would be very expensive.
Bench time with Jerry thanks Jerry 💯
Wow! Thank you for sharing! Been thinking about getting a moon clip capable revolver for a while to make reloads quicker. Thank you for the knowledge!
Moon clips weren't invented to be speedloaders. They were created to serve as an artificial rim for rimless cartridges.
That's why actual speedloaders are more durable and failsafe than moon clips.
I have those polymer ones for my 310 and love them
I run the BMT mooner/demooner tool and it works great, quick to load, quick to unload, and no chance of bending the clip.
Great tips! I recently got a 327 and this has some vital info!
I'm not really too interested in moon clips, or revolvers in general... But when Jerry talks I listen!
Enjoy your videos sir!
God bless all here.
Thank you. I had no idea there were such tools.

Very useful demystifying of the moon clip use methods by the man who makes the most out of using them.

Can you video on Black and Smokeless Powder storage for short and long term?

I have a ruger 9mm the shells load and remove from the moon clips by hand. Very easy.

Hi,... Thank you for video. Question please. Is the Charter Arms pitbull only revolver in 9mm designed to be used ...Without moon clips??... Thanks.

Sorry....what was he saying? I was drooling at the ammo behind him.
where can I get one of those shirts Jerry? Respect dude ;)
Could you lightly sand the edges so the cases would stay in snug but easily load and unload?
It's fun to say "clip" and actually be correct!
Jerry what's up !
Hey nice seeing you here!
Great tips but all that hassle is the reason I don't have any guns that use moon clips and I have a lot of revolvers.
does anybody know where i could get my hands on that white plastic moon clip loader?
It looked great
The tube tool you made would be good for speed loading tube fed rifles like the Henrys
Look up Spee-D Lodrs for loading tube fed rifles.
I've had 2 since 2009 when I finally got a Nylon 66
Help please! Some clips are too loose, even though labeled for my 929. Have to try different companies. They jam the cylinder.
I saw something years ago, but not recently... do you know of of anyone who makes a speed loader for the Smith and Wesson Performance Center 986?
Jerry is the national treasure
I check LIVE cylinder I never knew about false cylinders.
