2 to 3 peeled cucumbers, slice thin. 1 sweet onion, sliced thin. Place cucumber and onion slices in glass bowl. In saucepan place 34 cup white vinegar and 1/2 cup white sugar. Heat and boil until sugar is dissolved. Only takes a couple minutes. Stir with wooden spoon. Pour over cucumbers and onions and refrigerate. I have cooked for 62 years and used this recipe.
My Mom always had a side dish of cucumbers or beets with straight up apple cider vinegar!! Always loved having that as a side dish! Gotta try adding the sugar! Thanks Leslie!

I remember growing up it was made just like you do yours, some time I gave had it with a little oil in it too. My husband's family is polish and they make it with sour cream in it. I have also had it with tomatoes too. So many ways to make it, but all so good.
My mother in law made this with her fresh cucumbers from her garden. I make a cucumber salad my mom used to make with sour cream, garlic, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper. Cucumbers have to be sliced thin and salted the night before to draw out the water.

Thank you for your recipe. I put 2 cups each of cider vinegar and water and add half cup sugar plus 1 teaspoon. Perfect every time.
