Halo has been under 343's control longer than Bungie's, and what the fuck do we have to show for it? One poor remaster of an original game, one mediocre game, one bastardisation of the originals that took half a decade to fix, one terrible game, a decent RTS, and one mid game who's only redeeming quality is being more faithful to the originals than the previous entries, and an absolute dogshit TV show? @@jakespacepiratee3740 Yes exactly, Halo is niche, those who care/understand the flaws with infinite are also niche. As he states in the video, the cultural perception of halo is that of indifference. For as many players who like infinite, there are just as many who like 5. The game has lost its identity. In the age of modern gaming most people's attention is on other games. Halo has lost the core of what made it special. And while infinite is a now playable and content full game (only because forge made community maps and game modes.) it still lacks the foundation of what makes a genuinely timeless game. He argues that infinite should not or ever be the building blocks for the franchise. While yes a large portion of the community rips on 343i constantly, they don't fundamentally address the issues at hand, and in turn many halo fans have given up and accept halo for what it now is. Thus, an overall indifference, instead of a resounding accord. I look forward to his next video.

There's no progression so there's no reason to play the game anymore aside from the barebones "icon change" which is just as bad as "number go up". The fact that you can't earn ANYTHING unless you get to Max level is insulting, as was the fact that they gave 0 retrospective XP when they finally managed to release the career rank system. Seeing all the hard work that the art team puts in just get shoveled into the store and charged for outrageous prices makes me sad for the future of Halo. So many people buy from the store that nothing is ever going to change. The next game will be exactly the same, so idk if I'll even stick around

Just to add clarification to your statement. Every time 343i has used the "engine too poop, cant do co-op" argument. It has been a fact-proven lie. They said it for cross-core and now all of a sudden cross-core is in the game. They said it for collision and there are multiple builds with it working fine. They said it for co-op/split screen and a week later people modded it back into the game. And a week after that 343i permanently patched that mod capability out. And the worst one of all is they said it for the FREAKING GAME MODES at launch. They are the ones to blame for Halo's failures. Plain and simple. Microsoft and management had a play in it tanking due to their failure to manage the quality and content roadmap.

One of the biggest issues that killed this game for me is the lack of middle ground. You either play the same 5 maps in ranked and sweat hard or you play maps designed to be casual in game types that are incredibly unbalanced. The part that made halo halo to me is the ability to play how you want and still have fun. This game tried to be everything to everyone and fell flat. I’m an onyx player and I miss the old halo feel where you could queue with friends of varying skill and have fun. Those days are over. We have a game marketed to both casuals and sweats and neither majority is having much fun anymore.

    • @anonymous7564
      @anonymous7564 7 месяцев назад +1

Almost like there needs to be more than one ranked playlist, where you still have roughly the same settings as Ranked Arena, but it's slightly geared down (only slightly) to provide a unique fun experience that is still moderately competitive, but is just slightly lower stakes than the current Ranked Arena, but with still a rank on the line.
"We have a game marketed to both casuals and sweats and neither majority is having much fun anymore."
This is a problem; Not that it's marketed to both, but that we assume it is. If 85% of the game, or 18 total playlists, are geared toward a "Casual" audience , with only 1 permanent ranked playlist ('the sweaty playlist') and one rotational playlist (the also sweaty playlist but on horrible maps with unbalanced weapons applied), they aren't really gearing toward "sweats" for marketing or gameplay.
I'd argue there's almost no other place for a general FPS player to play Halo outside of Ranked Arena, and then a potentially "community map montage" of the rotational ranked playlist.
Although I say this as I still question why on Earth did the Social team decide to keep sprint and clamber in the Halo 3 playlist when optional variations of appropriately scaled Halo 3 maps exist in Halo Infinite. It's beyond me why they truly invest so much time into a "community" that doesn't even exist inside of the game they tailor it to.

Its actively harmful to the community when you push back against criticism for the sole reason of you not wanting your sacred cow criticized. You aren't actually defending any feature you value and want to see preserved, you just want to defend the status quo because you don’t want to believe that there's anything wrong with the thing you enjoy.

I agree, as bittersweet as it may be. I do think there’s a temptation when it comes to fans of long-standing franchises like Halo to want to somehow reproduce the experiences of our most formative years, which is always a doomed endeavour. Simply because we are different people who experience the world completely different than how we did when we were 8 or 12 years old. We can never go back to that.
There is of course much valid criticism to be made, but I get the in that this is the reason there’s a lot of bitterness than tends orbit the fandoms old franchises. People expecting to relive the most precious moments of their youth, and being disappointed when that impossible standard fails to be met.
That’s not why I’m saying what I’m saying tho. I genuinely just think the Chief of Halo 1 - 3 was cooler. I’m matured enough now to recognize that liking something for simply being “cool” is a good enough reason to like it, even if it isn’t particularly deep or complex.

I feel like the big problem 343 has and it’s literally so apparent, is that they don’t know what Halo should be. Look at 4 it built off Halo reach in the ways you could pick your load out before you spawned. Halo 5 just said fuck all that and put everything on your spartan at all times. Then Halo Infinite is like lets sort of try to mix Halo 5 and Halo 3 together. While i do personally think equipment is the best option for a fourth pillar to the gameplay loop , we should’ve started there first. Because that would’ve made the most sense for a sequel to Halo 3. I also think you make a great point about people that just like everything and would enjoy the classic formula as well, because lets be real most of these kids don’t have any backbone and would rather go with the crowd anyways. So if everyone is having fun they’re going to jump in as well. I think the biggest thing Halo has to offer though is the amount of content it could have day one with all the modes and features we’ve come to know and love over the years with the classic titles. But 343 has consistently failed to capitalize on its potential. Then the post launch content is just getting what we were looking forward to at launch but had to wait for post launch. It’s really hard to look forward to the future of Halo with any sort of positive outlook because this should’ve never happened with how much feedback you and the rest of the community gave them back in the Halo 5 days. They had every answer they have ever needed to get this right day one and still felt like they could go another way with it, and get away with it. But we’re the meddling kids getting in their way lol. Idk it’s just weird to me how a developer can literally ignore its core fanbase that made the franchise so popular in the first place, to try and appeal to a broader audience, when they already had that to begin with because they were taking over something that already had a pre existing fanbase.

Yeah, I remember being in that honeymoon period during Infinite's launch, but these days I rarely ever touch the game. If I'm playing Halo, it's usually MCC customs or mods. The annoying thing about Infinite is that it does do a lot of things that I like, and I'm worried that they're gonna backtrack on too many things for the next game. Like people love fusion coil throwing, but I can see it being cut just like assassinations and dual-wielding were. I want to hope that the new leadership know what they're doing, but I'm worried that they take the wrong lessons from Infinite's failure. Looking forward to that trilogy of videos. The reason 343 won’t remove sprint is because philosophically it represents *their* version of Halo. To remove Sprint would be like admitting at the end of it all, after a decade of confidence & denial that the old halo fans were right. So they would rather dilute the ability to pretty much irrelevance than to just flat-out remove it.
Ironically, I feel like if they did officially announce removing sprint - it would have the same effect as bringing back the og artstyle. *Thunderous applause*
THAT’s how you get the general audience back on your side (those who checked out for years) it would symbolize an end to the previous dark age and a new era returning to classic formulas and new reason to be interested.

Well sprint was the cause of bigger map design. An example is Midship from Halo 2 compared to Halo 5 which completely changed the gameplay. However, Infinite maps are not affected by sprint since its speed is minor. However, to say a small speed boost is useless is subjective. Many players in Counterstike switch to their knife for a small speed boost in competitive. Being able to get into position faster or avoiding bullets can change the outcome of a gunfight.

I think the best way to describe my dream new Halo game would be a spiritual successor to Halo 3. I feel like 343 were using Halo Reach as the baseline for their projects since Halo 4, that was a huge mistake. Halo Reach to many people was an experimental spinoff, whilst the original trilogy remained the flagship of the franchise, being the most “Halo” Halo games. If 343 had used Halo 3 as their template from the very start, I believe we would of had much different, much better sequels than what we have now.

They used Halo 3 though. Look at the alpha builds. The issue is that 343 followed trends with each installment. The games still use the ttk from H3 where two melee hits is a kill, and similar ttk for a perfect. Halo gameplay is stale and CE and 2 hold up far better.

    • @Nethseaar
      @Nethseaar 5 месяцев назад +1

It sounds like they're going to remake the original trilogy to train up their studio on Unreal Engine.
I say: Fair enough. It's potentially less risky than trying to make Halo 7 as their first project in Unreal.
It's also a chance to right the wrong of CE: Anniversary and make something better than the Gearbox port. If they do a good job, having a more stable, aesthetically true version of the OT could be nice.
I can even get behind adding new Halo sandbox elements to CE- the energy sword, fuel rod cannon, hijacking, drivable wraiths, etc.
I would enjoy it if they added some levels from Thel's perspective in CE. That's riskier, given their track record of awful storytelling that ignores canon and relies heavily on non-game material.
And some things probably ought to be changed to match Bungie's original plans: If they continued on to Halo 3, I wouldn't say no to a remake of Cortana that actually looks like High Charity and includes the Flood Arbiters.
Playing as the Arbiter for The Covenant would also be welcome, seeing as Bungie overcorrected by sidelining the Arbiter after backlash. Arby deserves to be the main character when you defeat Truth.
There are some potentially exciting possibilities in this project, and I don't begrudge 343 the necessity of practicing with Unreal before continuing the main story of Halo.
But it sounds like instead they're going to fundamentally change the gameplay so it's basically not CE at all. Now is the time to speak out against that! We have to head it off, or Halo is doomed to forever be Not!Halo.

To be fair, Halo 5 launched on the Xbox One, it was never going to be all that popular, even if it had all content at launch
Infinite had a much better chance would it have launched with forge, working customs, a ranking system, infection, etc
It still would have its problems for sure, but we’d probably see a significantly larger amount of players sticking around
New players who wanted to try out infinite, they see al these cool maps and modes being made and played, they actually have fun and stick around
Customs and forge gives people so much more to fall in love with
The game was so basic and bare bones at launch (partially due to maps, partially kind of bland gameplay)
I agree with you mostly, I just think it isn’t entirely the case that Infinite would’ve flopped even with the content
It wouldn’t have been a return to form, because it is missing a lot of the magic, but it would’ve been in a better position in terms of current population

There is even less than halo 5s launch and forge comes out later more than a year later. They regressed even from halo 5. That just launch wise. Remember how h5 it was only helmet and body you could change? That was so bad. So in infinite they give us more customization but everything isn’t even in the paid battle pass. Its in the shop. The customization is just as bad a h5. I don't like Halo Infinite. It still doesn't feel like Halo, people said Halo Infinite is a "good foundation". No it isn't. Slipspace Engine is a pile of rubbish. The movement and mechanics of Halo Infinite don't feel like that of the Bungie games.
Part of the reason for that is the game is too fast. 343i are still chasing trends with having sliding and wanting to be "esports competitve" so they don't make Halo with the mindset that Bungie had when making the Halo games which was "fun".
I can't remember which Bungie employee said this but they wanted to make Halo's Multiplayer like it was a "party game" and one that "Nintendo would make". 343i have not approuched Halo with this mindset EVER.
Which is why Halo will never be good again until 343i stops working on it. They're company culture doesn't fit with what is required to make a Halo game. It’s insane that 343 will include something that breaks Halo’s fundamentals by changing how the game is played drastically and people will eat it up.
Why people convince themselves that classic Halo mechanics wouldn’t work in a modern setting is ridiculous. MCC proves this by being the more popular title. It might be unfair that it’s several games in once, but the mechanics and physics of each Halo in MCC differ only slightly with 4 being the most drastically different.
Halo needs to return to the identity that made it popular to begin with and stick to it. Not meaning no change is good change, but that solid fundamentals shouldn’t be broken.

15:05 sprint is a primer for sliding. Sliding is a useful mechanic. On the map Elevation there is a lower level and the easiest way to get there is to slide off a ledge in order to propel yourself at just the right trajectory to land on the platform. Simply walking off the ledge or jumping down makes it so you have to catch the ledge with a clamber.
Going from a sprint to a slide feels intuitive. Probably a lot more intuitive (to the general gaming audience) than having a dedicated slide button and no sprint. Though I admit maybe it could work in a Halo game made with a confident strong vision.
