    Great tutorial man, if you're curious why the opacity map is smaller in res compared to the other maps it's because it's displaying a single value of colour which you don't need high resolution. It's just the program optimising the exports. (similar concept with how UE4 optimises RGB channels work with metallic)

    The cropping tool is quite simple. The canvas always has to be filled with an image, so when you crop, the cropped image gets stretched automatically. If you want to see a more traditional cropping, what you can do is deactivate the cropping device. You will still be able to access the manipulators, but you won't see the stretch.
    If you want to adjust the normal map, I would go first to the multiangle to material node, there you can adjust things like the method being used, and also you can crank up the strength.
    Finally, a nice tip, if you save the material before exporting, the name will be set automatically at export!

      Wow that actually clears up a lot, thank you! I understand how the software works for the most part but some of those smaller things have tripped me up so I appreciate it 👉😉👉

      No worries, I use it at work almost everyday to process fabric scans, and sometimes we train people, and I KNOW, that the cropping thing, is always something that puzzles people.
      You can do a lot of fancy stuff, but at my copany, since we have to do tons of fabrics, we have a pretty basic setup:
      -(Maybe adjustment)
      -Tiling
      -(Maybe clone patch)
      -Equalizer
      -Crop
      -Scale checker
      -Multiangle to material
      -Image Import
      -BaseMaterial

    The problem you are having with the crop tool i think is because you are in material output mode, change that to layer input to fix it. You can find it on the top right corner of the 2D viewport. Thank you for your video.

    what would be really cool is if it could create a procedural version of that so as to randomise each leaf. It's really the diversity in objects that differentiates renders from real life.

    • @JasonFerry
      @JasonFerry  3 года назад

      Yeah it's sometimes possible to have procedural variation like that but I think it'd have to be in-engine. Like I've seen Unreal do it though I'm not too familiar with it myself.

    How to Export the .PNG file inlcuding the opacity? Instead of having it as a separate texture map?

    Thanks for the video. What equipment are you using to capture the pictures?

    • @JasonFerry
      @JasonFerry  2 года назад +1

      All the equipment is pretty basic, actually. I used a Rebel T7 to take the pictures, mounted it on an Amazon Basics tripod, and used a portable light that I found around my house. As long as the camera doesn't move, you can even use your phone to do it.

    I'm having some performace issues with this software, maybe its my CPU which is kinda old.
    Which CPU you used for this video?

    • @JasonFerry
      @JasonFerry  2 года назад +1

      I'm using a Ryzen 9 3900X. I could be wrong, but I don't believe that Sampler is too heavy on the CPU, though.

    Hi ferry, I have a question about metallic map, how can we capture it? I need it for leather material

    • @JasonFerry
      @JasonFerry  2 года назад

      Metallic is a bit more complicated because of how reflective it is, there's nothing for the software to latch onto because every photo looks different. Your best option would be to spray it with some kind of paint or something (there are specific ones made for photogrammetry) though I've never tried it myself, I've only seen other people do it.

    Such a stupid rename for this software. Adobe should disappear from the face of the earth.

    • @JasonFerry
      @JasonFerry  3 года назад +2

      Yeah I'd agree that Sampler and Stager are a bit clunky for names but I think it'll all make sense when their 3D modeling software comes out. Then each one will clearly be a different part of the 3D pipeline.

      They've sucked out all the personality of Substance software. Not the end of the world, but depressing nonetheless.
