This kind of passion is self definition. Clubs are part of the community in the towns, part of the history, part of our own history. Ultras are pride. They represent their life, history, on football stands. The place where they can be very loud....if you know what I mean :-)
Can be dangerous to be the part of it? Well, numbers dont lie. Check how many students died in the US by gun attack and also check how many people died in the World because of any soccer/ultras related act...You will find a significant difference between these 2 numbers.

You're right but the difference in England for Relegation from the top division is 240 Million Dollars NOT $40m as it says in that video,
Also in England, there is a 4th Trophy The League Cup played by the 92 League Teams(4 Divisions). This is, as well as, The F A Cup for the best teams all thru' 7,000 National teams in qualifying matches and THe League itself and THe Top 7 out of 20 English teams play in one of the following season's 3 European Competitions.

That said however, I think it would be a good info dump in the comment section of that video when it comes out, which I assume it will one day

Everyone in Ultra's goes against the police.
There are recorded instances where the atmosphere was so intense back and forth but the police intervened to get the fans to stop singing exc.
The Ultra's of the home team, started chanting AGAINST the police in support of the very men they where singing death chants against on the opposite team.
It gets even worse becouse there are also instances where Ultra groups, groups who'd rather drive off a cliff then consider the person opposite them joined up together to fight the police.
    It really is that intense.
In terms of their support. Its nonstop, unforgiving and rain or snow does not stop them. Now fighting against the police I got a beef with to, it costs the community and the club alot of fines/financial compensation for repairs excetra. But if you are a player on the pitch knowing you have 10 - 65000 people behind you who simply WILL you to win.
How can you not give your best. Giving annything less then 100% is not tolerated.

I guess it's very hard to understand for an American , but in Europe and South America , like you PERFECTLY understood , football is a religion.
And you can count "ultras" as the most fanatics of this religion. Some people would litteraly die for their team and it's not a metaphore , it's the truth.
The clashes with the police is caused by the facts that first : they do things to support their team that illegal in a stadium , like cracking fires , destroying stuff by celebrating too hard.
Second : many ultra from different teams HATE each other. If 2 teams are rivals , their ultra are very likely to end the game in a big fight , and you can imagine thousand of people (often drunk) fighting can lead to a massacre , that's why there are MANY cops on these games.
In one hand , ultras are the "heart" of football , every club loves their ultra. Presidents of clubs , players etc , they know their ultras , they respect them and they love them.
On the other hand they can be very violent and very dangerous. And this video didn't show it but the real dark side of some ultras is racism.
Some (rare) ultra groups in Italy and France used to be known as very racist groups , it's over in France since this group has been banished from stadium for life but in Serie A (the Italian league) there are still racist ultra group who would "booooo" every black player , or throwing bananas at him when he touches the ball... terrible.

As someone who spent his whole youth in these type of groups i can tell you you are fine to come to football games in Europe. Ultras have their own space in the stadium, and they are contained. Just don't go to their side and you are fine. Their issues are not with neutral supporters. Just sit on the chair, enjoy the game and the show the Ultras make. It's a very good experience.

You must understand that there are different gates at every stadium. The gates of the first half of the stadium are for regular fans. The gates from other sides are gates for hooligans/ultras for the first team and gates for ultras for other team.
Other thing is that there is rule that woman and children MUST NOT be harmed. If you are ultras and do something to some woman or some child you will be kicked from group. And maybe beaten the shit out of you.
On the half where are regular fans everything is ok. Even after the game we can block the way for other team or the refferee, that's why the police is involved. But we ALWAYS make path to regular football fans, even if they are for the guesting team. So there is no drama.

Cannot speak on Europe but NYPD have started to become a huge pain in the ass here in the Bronx. For 1 smoke bombs & flares fall under fireworks which is not allowed to be used by the public so when we would use them, in the early days they would make arrests. Now more recently, after our first home game in over a month (due to the international break), we popped a lot of smoke bombs on the streets along with a lot of flares, which now the police have warned us about using it in front of the stadium & near the entrance of the train station, due to apparent public safety. In the first home game of the season, due to us blocking the street as we marched to the stadium together using our smoke bombs & flares which also blocked traffic on the street (specifically from the public bus that comes down on the avenue) one cop attempted to stop us by turning on his sirens & making us move as he tried to get past us, someone hit the car & he stepped out the car annoyed by us, while other cops just stood by watching him make a fool of himself. However due to some ways our fans support (whether us or fans in any part of the world) the teams, usually comes in clash with the police, with the excuse of public safety being the main reason for it. Then you got hooligans, who just flat out want to fight other fans & since cops have to try & prevent that, you also get problems with them.

generaly as a fanbase you need to have good communication with the club, try doing that by buying all season tickets pacage en masse so that they see that there is a financial benefit of them having your back and ffs try geting the team thats playing for you win by supporting them by being the 12th player and give em all u got,if ur lucky they will give you all they got...
now for the other stuff...as someone whos 17y in an organised hool group i need to say to you that you need to understand that curve life is like being in love with a bitch thats using u and abusing u,that is,better be fucking prepared to give and give and give and give and give and dont ever fucking dare to expect something back.could get all philosopical here but fuck me,what i wrote allready is too mutch.....keep up the strugle man, and maybe if we are lucky one day well get to knock the teeth out to one another in some back alley if near some stadium. greetings from serbia

@@maradonica10 our fanbase is kind of divided in what we call the supporters section (it's where you'd find the main groups). Only 2 groups that are organized well are recognized and in touch with the teams front office. To be recognized by them, you have to have a certain amount of season ticket holders (partial or full season tickets) as well as your group being legally a non-profit organization (which cost money to do). I do belong to one of those organizations and we're definitely the most vocal and active of the 2. The other one has huge numbers, does great tifos and banners but aren't the type to require their members to vocally sing our songs and chants, something that is required in ours. This is also New York so we get a lot of tourists in our sections who don't know shit about our songs and chants. There's definitely teams around the league (and even lower leagues) that have their shit sorted out on support. We're a struggling fanbase with a stadium problem that not even a championship has fixed (since they were MLS Cup winners last season). While we love our pyro, the stadium falls under federal guidelines (vs local) and to avoid outright bans on all of us, there's sort of a police ourselves mentality to avoid being banned from home and away games for doing shit like that. Our own team due to a smoke bomb being set off at an away game among with fights between ourselves put a ban on drums and banners in our stands for a whole month. But since most our away days last month were ridiculously far, we basically still had no drums and our home games were held in the stadium where we had the fight and smoke bomb incident so they still didn't allow drums. Literally tonight will be the first night you'll see drums in our stands since June. Wish there was enough people with the balls to say we're going to do what we want but there isn't. And if we do, most people will not stand by us as they do not have the same mentality. Want to be part of the atmosphere WITHOUT being active in it.

for second part way i see it,your biggest problem in states on stadiums is the indiffirence of people to one another eaven if they were gathered on the same place by the same love and goal

3.NO GUNS OR KNIVES you cant say you have won anything on stadium unless you did it in glorius meleee combat ultras way!
4.what ever happens nobody will be quiet in your part of stadium anymore i guarantee it

When you ask why the police? You don't even have to understand the old movements like hooligans or whatever, in fact sometimes the police are not impartial. You can see an example at 10:24 where the cops are beating fans on the right side and letting home fans into a supposed "buffer/safe zone where no audiences are accepted to avoid rivalry issues. Cops let the fans of the same city as them come to provoke and inevitably that annoys.
Discipline is however followed, if they decided to charge, even the cops could not stop them.

the thing with the police is from my opionion and point a crazy eastern european thing, some would call it problem. The police separates the fans of the home and away team, cause they have their own section in the stadium (away section is like 10% of the whole capicity of the stadium, 70.000 people over all, 7.000 allowed away fans in this section. mostly the away fans are at the other side of the stadium so that they dont start fighting. The police builds convios the bring the away fans to the stadium. Obviously both fan groups wann be the biggest, hardest group on earth and alcohol is a pretty common thing in the EU. So these (mostly) cheered up guys want fight for their group and their team. Like i said, the police separates the two groups and also sometimes gets inclueded to these fights. So the police is fighting back with teargas and batons. Conflicts here, conflicts theirand the police is the most hated group in the whole scene. I´ve never seen any fan group that was pro police activity outside of a stadium. A big part of these fights is the history of the clubs. These are not franchises build up from a billionare lik an NFL team. Its like a very old start up which started with 11 or more people that just wanted to play. This history goes back to 1857 when Sheffield FC was founded. This history must stay and must have a future, so it gets defended. The clubs dont have owners, the are build up from their members, the tickets, merchandise yada yada. For me its an honor to wear this logo of my club on a jersey, shrt, pants and other stuff. Its a lifelong bond for the most of the people i know and it will never change. No matter in which league the club plays, the fans are ready to support. From a small 30k village, to the biggest towns in europe. the follow. money, work, vacation doesnt matters when you´re jumping with 5k other people at 20°F in a old rund down ukraine stadium with a +16h train trip in your back. I´m in a luxury position to say that my favourite club, Eintracht Frankfurt, has the best fan scene in whole europe, for me in the whole world, but south america is a crazy playce too :D . I could write much more to help you understand the passion to football and to our clubs. But there are many videos out there to watch which could discribe it even better.
this is a very special video to me. ruclips.net/video/n0nQFqJpGgE/видео.html
edit: the police is like a security at every football game in europe. so they watch that nobody gets hurt or anything. stadiums in europe have extra cages around them so that you just cant walk in like in a park or something

See bro , in the US sport is family - entertainment .
    In EU , its war.
It has a lot of to do with the fact , that clubs cant move (there r some rarely exceptions ) and they r not a franchise . Clubs started most times in late 19th century or early 20th , like 1905 or something.
And if u a fan of a club , ull be almost ur whole life. In some citys u have 2 clubs , lets say in Greece/Athens , u have "Athinaikos Athen" and "AEK Athen" . Ur dad takes u to AEK , and u most likley stay with that club ur whole life. There is no way u become a Athinaikos- fan , and if they play against eachother , its fking war.
Has a lot of to with the history of EU , when we all has been tribes . Instead of killing , they started competition in all different ways of fighting . And sport is the modern way of this ish , over here.
Thats why u found so many fanatics in sports in Europe , and fking hell , i love it :)

Ultras control clubs bro alot of them have Mafia, Political, Religious, Racial beliefs behind them or linked to them. They say what goes not the club president. They experience alot of police brutality simply because football is the largest sport in the world, alot of their chants or messages involve political or other beliefs which is why the government don't like them resulting in the government basically allowing police brutality.
A club could be playing it's biggest game of the year one day but if the Ultras done want it to take place for whatever reasons, Ultras have shut down training centers, complexes and cities before that's another reason why they're look at as a criminal organisation by the government. There have been instances in the past were historically white built clubs in Eastern Europe specifically have made the club president terminate Multi Million dollar deals with players they signed a few weeks later because of their skin colour for example. Beitar Jerusalems ultras (a big club in Israel) have protested and forced the president to terminate players contracts due them being Muslim or Arab players because of their religious and political views... It's crazy man and I'm not saying it's right but every culture has their own values and cultural differences and they won't let anyone, no matter how rich violate them. Ultras literally control clubs for better or worse. (There's also a long history of violence behind big Rivalries in almost every country in the world, fights were so common between clubs ultras that they would almost schedule them before or after games which has led to so many lifes lost and fatal injuries, bombs, st*bbings etc)

To sum it up, it's basically bigger than football. A lot of football clubs have been around since the 1800s and 1900s, history and issues run deep in time. Each football is a part of a town or City, which themselves have had beef before the football clubs were even in existence, it's bigger than football, football is just the biggest stage were Ultras can make their voices heard

Watching Football(!) as an American is probably like me watching superbowl or nba.. i just don´t get it! i guess its more about eating and sitting comfortable. how could it be different if you don´t cheer for a real club but just an investor.. i got a lot of respect for these athletes, but the supporters love to a club won´t get bigger than the sticker on their useless pickups. if there will be halftime shows like in superbowl i will never watch football again unless i become a big fan of shakira, madonna or other super fancy pop music stuff
