About time ! He'd love Skeletrix Language. Could prob get an hr long video from Skye just on that one .
So glad you covered this album. Edward Skeletrix feels like an artist in the truest sense of the word
He says he wants to present the idea of an 'Off Brand Rapper' . Very interesting
Not only did he release this after a Museum Exhibit where he was apart of the installation, he also released what I would call the “B sides” to Museum Music on a side account called I’m a Monster
Fire pfp🙏
That Devon hendryx
@@stillbussin2count784 I know🧐
it’s not a b side, it’s the first part of an album
AVAA I think you nailed it well done
Love your work bro
ur beats are incredible man
yep
🤍🤍🤍
thank you so much for your work 🖤
Been obsessed with Edward's music since discovering him around this time last year, and this newest album has only further proven my love for his music. In fact, his newest album has grown on me so much to the point it's become one of my favorite rap albums EVER ! But seeing his change in style with his music and his overall growth has just been incredible.
I thought I was listening to Skel but this whole time Skel was listening to us
hi thogga
Me too. I love experimental music
I listened to this album for the first time a few nights ago as I was going to bed. I usually don’t like to read lyrics the first time through an album because it’s too distracting for me, but I understood so little of what he was saying that I ended up reading a lot of the lyrics as I listened. Suffice it to say, I was pleasantly surprised and taken aback to find a lot of things worth thinking about and discussing, especially on songs like Plastic Body, God Made You a Monster, and others. Glad to see you felt the same way, and glad there are people like you to take seriously what a lot of people might not think is worth taking seriously. AVAA
We replaced God with consumerism. Sheesh thats a BAR.
Very Nitzschean
on what song did he say this
11:20
"Typical Rap Song" is a series of tracks by Skeletrix. #1-10 are on his first project, Skeletrix Language.
Holy shit this is why you’re my favorite RUclipsr you’re exactly how I see myself in 15 -20 ish years from always being interested in newer music, linguistics, foreign culture. It’s so cool seeing an older more mature version of myself
Incredible analysis - you’re such a stronger thinker and I love how you put music into conversation with philosophical traditions and authors. I learn so much from you every video.
i love whenever prof skye talks about frank zappa
So crazy that you reviewed that, also new set up is looking crisp! AVAA from a long time supporter
i wish you went over "god made you a monster" in more depth (im not sure if you even mentioned it could of been so brief i didnt realize or not at all.) he talks about a rapper who died in 2018 who he was previously friends with. im not gonna go over the whole song in this comment but i thought the concept was interesting but don't exactly understand it and was hoping you were going to explain it.
AVAA
one thing about edward skeletrix is that he studied psychology at georgia state university, really makes sense how he mentions mental health a lot in his music and has such wild perceptions
Edward Skeletrix is the new gen Kanye
If I host a museum visit one day I’m playing this album. This is truly museum music✨
bro the saxophone solo 😭😭
I interpreted the album as an entrance and exit through Edward's 'Museum". The entrance is Congratulations, and we go through his exhibits, such as the new tracks & the singles which act as callbacks to his previous work. The exit of the 'Museum' is the simple, chilling and short track 'Yo Bro Will Kill You For A Band'.
he is actually more akin to an art student out of New York since he is from New York and even held an "art exhibition" to promote for the release of the album
AVAA great to see you covering skeletrix amazing commentary and analysis as always
You absolutely need to check out Skeletrix Language. Production wise it's very similar to this, but he goes even deeper lyrically with the personal messages. Very interesting
Further proof for why this is the best music discussion yt channel. We appreciate your efforts and lens.
good release, cover fit perfect. peak of rap/trap.
in the future we gonna just listen beats.
we should get your thoughts on the exhibition he did for the rollout of this album AVAA
AVAA i love your random tangents keeps me stimulated
AVAA really happy to see you review this album :D
I'm glad you're approaching this album seriously, so kudos to you! I have some thoughts, though:
Fear and Trembling is a great book, I can't agree with your analysis of it, but I appreciate your mentioning it. I'm prejudiced against Camus, but I wouldn't import Camus into an analysis of Museum Music.
Regarding who I think we ought to look to instead, read "Crash" by Baudrillard and see if you think it has any connection to Typical Rap Song 7 -- specifically lyrics like "Did surgery on my car, hop in"
Then consider this excerpt from "Crash":
_From a classical (even cybernetic) perspective, technology is an extension of the body. It is the functional sophistication of a human organism that permits it to be equal to nature and to invest triumphantly in nature._
Or consider this passage from Baudrillard's "Transaesthetics" (Transparency of Evil):
_The promotional ignition of art is directly linked to the impossibility of all aesthetic evaluation. In the absence of value judgements, value goes up in flames. And it goes up in a sort of ecstasy_
In a lot of analysis and critique I see online, I see people almost always using the language of capital or absurdism, now, I don't think that it doesn't apply _at all_, but I feel that we rely too much on these ideas, and end up a little myopic. One extreme example of this I saw was a contemporary marxist saying that the orthodoxy of marxist theory is ill-equipped to describe our supposedly post-capital world (OK). However, they immediately adhere to marxist theory in their analysis. (Book is "Capital is Dead")
My suspicion is that this album (and things like it) is best analyzed thru the lens of more "postmodern" schools of thought -- media theory, cybernetics, etc. I've read _very_ little Byung-Chul Han, but I wonder if a deeper dive into his thought would pay. I'm not sure I feel confident giving any other recommendations, but I will say if we want to draw on other artists, it seems most appropriate to look to James Ferraro and Philip K. Dick. The latter I suggest because of his brushes with psychosis in his work (and life).
In any case, I want to disclaim I'm not very knowledgeable at all -- and, of course, I respect your expertise. Cheers
AVAA was surprised seeing you cover this album glad you did though
AVAA I was praying you’d get to this album
AAVA yo if u didn't see edward dropped another album the same day as the one also called "museum music" under the name "im a monster". its got the same title and its by the same guy and it came out the same day but its a completely different album lol. i dont wanna say 2 much but the song GOD from tbe other museum music (museum music 2?? idk what 2 call it) is probably the best rage song ive ever heard
ths was some sloppy analysis of my listening of GOD if anyone cares. @professorskye i hope u see this
"the dichotomy of it all. mama saying he needs god in his life, but her own child knows that he already is God and can control his life and destiny. either subconciously or consciously, the subject (edward) is understanding that the adults, elders, supposed-to-be more knowledgable ppl in his life dont kno wtf goin awn and cant help him adequately enuff. hes grappling with whether to let the external god into his life because maybe he can accomplish what he wants and more. his parents got to where they are with only the simplcity of having put ones own fate and faith into the hands of another "greater" being. but ed doesnt have that same outlook on life. he's struggling and 'GOD' is the manifestation of the push and pull he's experiencing. whether to give away his personal power to something he most likely doesnt believe in or to live in the constant push and pull of life without the backing of an omnipotent being and solely relying on his personal power that he isn't the most steadfast in. hes experienced and knows the throes of derealization, has grappled with suicid*l ideations. he understands psychology, and the spiritual aspects of life, but to employ all of this knowledge is incredibly taxin on you. you do this work alone most of the time, and overall the knowledge can separate you from life. and Ed clearly is separated. he has separated himself from the superfluous going ons of the majority of his peers in the music scene and in his age group.
GOD is such a good song and says SO MUCH. without saying that much at all. i love tht song
@professorskye are you taking apprenticeships?
AVAA So fucking glad to see bro cover this
you are the goat for making this video. Great analysis too
This video was awesome dude. Just got a new sub
I thought skeletrix language from 2023 was much more consistent, but glad to see him being discussed
thank you for reviewing this album!!!!!!!!!!!
this video is a beautiful work of art
Hype!! i just bought album from bandcamp. Havent had a chance to listen to it yet though
Did u listen to it?
ppl suprise because Professor review Edward..
i mean, Edward rn is all over the place
He’s def not all over the places I visit~and I haven’t seen any “mainstream” commentators (the ones I give myself time for anyway) discussing this artist. Thank god for prof skye and his offbeat ways lol
Never been so excited from seeing a thumbnail
Loved the album. Love your review AVAA
other half of this album is also rly good u should check it out. its under the artist name "I'm a monster"
YES.
Beautiful
THANK YOU PROFESSOR SKYE AVAA!!!!
life so funny it gotta be a joke
i love him so much
this album sounds like overdosing on fent
wow i actually recommended edward so its pretty cool you actually did the video. when i made that comment tho i did type some stupid shit about him that feels bery pretentious to me now, just hope you forgot about that and luckily you actually like the recommendation. Also: he dropped two albums named museum music, one under the name im a monster, but i dont think it needs a video necissarily.
what a great video
AVAA
Sounds really interesting. Will listen to tomorrow.
AVAA, i'll def check this out prof. Imma recomend u one of my fav rappers ever, lil supa. Specially his album yeyo. He is a venezuelan rapper that is just a hip hop legend. He has an interesting idea about an international hip hop movement that i think u will dig, he even has a deep apreciation for french rap
31:04 i just immediatley remembered the first note of onlyfun track
This album was such a surreal first listen. Loved it
awesome
looking for his musem ''gigs'' in europe
It’s like I prayed for this video
real same
thanks for talking about edward
AAVA, can't wait to hear what you have to say about ethel cain's new project
I manifested this.
have you checked out james ferraro's music? he's a genius and i would really love seeing analysis from you on something like NYC hell 3:00 AM or silica gel. he's probably one of the biggest influences on the modern underground and laid the groundwork for artists like bladee and ecco2k. AAVA
YOOO EDWARD SKELETRIX REVIEW 💪
AAVA Prof, a video about French punk music would be awesome (:
Hi, love this video if you liked this album you should cover James Ferraro - NYC Hell, and/or Skid row and also check out Triad God
great video
AVAA this album is a complete masterpiece 🔥
art
There is a second museum music by I'm a monster, if you look up museum music it should be there
you play any video games Professor Skye?
From time to time, but don’t have the time to play consistently. Mainly PokemonGo and the big Nintendo titles. Did play Alien Isolation recently on my phone
ion lie...i recently was suggested that 'congratulations' honda video, didnt know what that was but im glad coz that shit was weird asl 😅 i then was caught in a rabbit hole obviously, his exhibition too.❤
Banger incoming
AVAA didnt really enjoy the albums but enjoyed your analysis,! I would love your thoughts on ethel cain new ep "perverts", but i understand if its out of your confort zone professor.
Please keep commenting on these meta irony music creations!! I love how you unpack these so much and I love your context that influences your opinion. I also watched all the bladeE videos you made twice (I am a drainer) ((lol)) and the nettspend video was very well spoken
Thank you for commenting on modern art
AVAA
great vid
bro knows ball
As someone who has just gotten into absurdism this is a nice surprise
Hey Prof I highly suggest you check out Edward Skeletrix's Museum Music Exhibit. Very fascinating performance art.
I also hear the first note of “simply having a wonderful Christmastime” in typical rap song 12- it happens around the 1:20 mark of the song during the transition from the fast tempo portion of the song to the slowed/reverb/bass boosted portion.
1:23 to be exact (I’m listening to it on tidal). Happens exactly once
AVAA!! Will be diving deeper into Edward Skeletrix with this absurdist lens you’ve provided :-3
Avaa I'm not a content creator but I am a tattoo artist and have an LLC. What you need to do is find a cpa. They will help you set up an LLC they will help you file your taxes and do write offs and all that. And no amount of do it yourself will make up for the experience and education they can provide. My recommendation. Find a content creator in your area who you can take to and find out who they use. Then go to that person. They'll already be familiar with the ins and outs of your industry.
Also not for nothing. Set up a business account. Have all your income from your LLC hit that first, then transfer to your personal. That way your cpa can set it up that a portion of what you make is your salary. Everything else your business account gets is capital gains. Those are taxed at a lower rate. Buy anything that could even tangentially be for your business as a business expense with your business account and save the receipts. When tax season hits bring a list an receipts of all that to your cpa and that's the tax write off. But most importantly get a cpa. I'm telling you my first year doing tattoos proffesionally I tried to file myself without a LLC I'm still paying that tax bill 5 years later. Vs now i pay quarterly and the total comes out to maybe a quarter of that every year. A good cpa will change your life. My guy gets a Christmas card every year that's how important he is to me lol.
absurdism is so based
AVAA re; Zappa, highly recommend the only film he ever scored entitled The World's Greatest Sinner
Zappa yes great comparison..
very cool guy and cool video
Unless you’re going for the Mid-Atlantic Ridge the closest man-made locale near the middle of a direct flight between Atlanta and Stockholm would be the wreck of the Titanic. If you want land then Greenland or the Azores.
s/o 2 Frank Zappa
Ooooooo Im hypewd aboujt this one
AVAA! I think you'd probably like his visual stuff like the videos he did with AI around a year ago :)
The word onlyfan has also been used in kanye's work. Though it's in a different sense, it holds a similar meaning.
AVAA skeletrix a legend
This album is nightmare fuel
wow
"in the 21st century we had the death of god, which is a shame because god was pretty cool" AVAA
Yk there’s another half of this album right? Edward skeletrix dropped 15 more songs on another album by the same name it’s on his I’m a Monster account
I think you should definitely give the artist Semetery a listen. He is defiantly a controversial figure and his latest work is a bit uninspired however his album Rainbow Bridge 3 is a mix of the Swedish drain sound, death metal and early Chief Keef. I think the lyrical content is very interesting and reflects current Zoomer philosophy well. "There's no tomorrow, so don't be sad today.... Truey jeans on, it's a lovely day". AAVA !
AVAA 7:12 just describing babyfather/dean blunt
Definitely not Babyfather in my opinion. Dean was so heavily involved with the UK grime scene and he said that he’d never satirize such and that that’s not the intention behind Babyfather.
reading this album on release was insane i was drunk as fuck
super padre!
28:09 Did Quentin Tarantino's filmography not exist before 2008?
Remember Uma Thurman dancing barefoot in Pulp Fiction. And all the shots of Uma Thurman's feet in Kill Bill volume 1. And all the shots of Uma Thurman's feet in Kill Bill volume 2. Etc.
this is very profound
AVAA "A table"
Ohh shit
AVAA I gotta say I never expected you to acknowledge that Edward Skeletrix exists but ig that was silly of me
