one of my favorite lines from this song is
"She like, "Come on, Neph, let me tell your future."
"I'm like, "Bitch, I'm off more molly than Future."
"I'm like, "Bitch, I might die tomorrow."
it truly shows that not only is his scope of our reality fully materialistic and skeptical of the spiritual, but it's a comparison of approaches to the fear of death. the woman in question is confronting death and the meaning/workings of life with the aformentioned tarot cards/new age spirituality, while nephew is completely disengaged with any approach to facing death and life itself. he describes not only being off loads of molly, but also how he would be completely okay dying in that state. it sort of points to hedonism in a vague sense. he points to the reality that nothing matters, is high off his rocker, and would be okay with that being his final state because it is the chase of pleasure.
regardless if that was the implication or not, his lyricism is insanely impressive for it to be heading arrows to a whole philosophy (hedonism) in 3 lines without mentioning hedonism nor specific philosophies whatsoever.
    tarot cards, molly, and death.
    AVAA.

Rxk nephew 100% a moralist. A generational talent at seeing right through people and dressing ANYone down with his words, and he'll always pick your biggest idols to do it with. I feel he is so against idolization that he even actively dissuades the listener from admiring he himself. This is why I feel there's this constant and deliberate juxtaposition in his music between criticizing anything and everything sacred before inviting scrutiny upon himself as well. He'll anyways intrigue you with some genius insight immediately before saying something intentionally upsetting and stupid. It goes way deeper than sheer edginess- it's true provocateur shit. Who is rxk nephew really? Is he a good guy or not? He doesn't want to paint his own picture of virtue and ask the listener to agree. I feel that he aims to provoke the listener into thinking for themselves and taking answers from no one else just like he does

Love this video. Think he says "Bitch im praying to my money rag" aka a bandana with a 100 dollar bill pattern which he owns, and is a reoccurring object/character in both RXKNephew and Rx Papi's music. I think this carries essentially the same meaning as "money racks" but with the added significance that a bandana holds: traditionally used to signal allegiance to a gang, Neph has a money rag since his only allegiance is to getting money.
Also "they both use water to convert people to their way of life" sheeeesshhhhh

Amazing video so far, very excited to finish it, love this song too
I only say this bc i love epistemology, think epistemology is more a study of the relationship of the knower + known than it is a theory of knowledge. Knowledge is like a category of object in that relationship, but epistemology applies to how i know my mom or how you know your kids, and there's far more than knowledge to that 😊 so, that's why I use epistemology instead of just saying theory of knowledge

Ngl I really thought this was a meme but it turned out to be an amazing hour of my time. I like that even when you criticize some of the lyrics, you take the time to break it down and understand what is being said. Also the last thing you said is so so true. I have an anxiety disorder and I struggled a lot during my last semester. Even though it was hard I finally communicated to my professors and they understood me and gave me more time to finish what I needed to finish. Now I get to walk the stage in a couple days when I really thought I had to retake a semester! I’m rambling but I guess I’m saying communication is essential and that I appreciate you saying that last bit as well as a really great analysis of a RXNephew song

You should review slither-man activated by nephew. I genuinely believe it is one of if not the best rap albums of the decade so far. It revolves around this provocative character named slither-man that he consistently plays throughout his discography, including on this song. It probably didn’t get the critical love it deserved at the time because he was considerably smaller than he is now but as he has grown people have identified that it is his best album.

AVAA - I have followed RXKNephew for a while and I believe that the critical thought process of Nephew is amazing. Obviously I also think that there are aspects in his songs like beating women are aspects of a character "slither man" where he can view himself from an outside point of view and critique himself in some aspects. I think that the thinking aspect of Nephew is the positive, but the negative parts are displayed openly to both humanize himself and accept what he has done and experienced. IDK tho im just a college kid and never thought much deeper than this when I was listening to this track a few months before this video came out.

Furthermore on the aspect of Eve I think that instead of focusing his anger and attention to god, he should find comfort that Adam loved Eve enough that he was willing to leave paradise to continue to live with her, demonstrating a powerful bond. In fact, on his instagram Nephew has been struggling to find his partner that he can love in such a way. Truly opened my eyes when you stated that this song can be interpreted as an autobiography.

This has barely anything to do with the video, but one word that always bugged me and my friend who is a philosopher is Gramsci’s “hegemony.” Not because it’s not useful (it certainly is), but it’s often used in textbooks that defang Gramsci of his Marxist beliefs. We also talked about how the same can be seen in everyone from Vygostky to Shostakovich to Brecht to even the diluting of Marx himself.
Random rant about terminology and Marx aside, this was an AVAA! It blew my mind the first time I heard it, and hearing your input about every little detail of it was really fascinating. And no, I won’t bring up Wittgenstein because I don’t wanna give myself a headache.

52:35 as you mentioned about nephew punching down on women you could go on the tangent of how hurt people hurt people and how the pains of marginalization and oppression is a vicious cycle God punches down on man man punches down on woman woman punches down on child child's punches down on each other and as you mentioned with the whole thing of Adam and Eve it's always so easy to blame another marginalized group for the all the world's problems for instance black people lgbtq people women Jewish people brown people etc instead of recognizing the actual enemy rather it be God himself the people running the system whatever it is but in the same breath as we punch down on individuals who are also marginalized the marginalized becomes the enforcers of

okay for the record i don't study philosophy OR believe abusing women is cool, but i think rxknephew uses the lines about that matter to show that despite the nature of the song literally being "question everything", there are still some parts of society and especially around the environment that are so deeply embedded in him, that despite his best attempts to remain 100% skeptical, he is still a product of the place, people and culture he was raised around and will never truly achieve this enlightenment he's trying so hard to reach throughout the entire song. i just hope it's satire and he's doing this on purpose 🤞🤞
    great video!

I think it’s great that you’re giving academic voice to this song and that you grant it merit despite disagreeing with some of the language and violent ideas. a lot of people just immediately get put off from that. I’m a toilet twitter philosopher myself and I love neph and this video couldn’t have been a better introduction to your channel for me.

Much love from Denmark. I find all of this very fascinating. Rap like this is very telling of todays society, what goes through our minds? Instead of hearing it from some talking head from a gated community. Also because you are american and your society is like GTA from over here

On your point regarding “How the F*** am I an African American, I’m an American Tterroristt” - I interpreted it as a statement on what it means to be an American regardless of background/ethnicity, etc.. as in no matter how different we are and wherever we fall on a scale of privilege as it pertains to our ethnicity, we all have a uniquely brutal mentality informed from American culture, and it presents in different ways based on how you’re defined within that framework. To be American is to be vindictive, self-righteous, and willing to stop at nothing for your ideology, same as any “t*errorist”. Just my two cents though. Loved the video

AVAA! I’ve been watching your videos for a while and love how I can always take away something new from the art you’re analyzing and learn something new in the process. Now that you may be open to doing past albums, there’s one I’ve been wanting to hear your analysis since I’ve started watching - Communist Slow Jams by JPEGMAFIA. No matter what your analysis or takeaway from it is, it would no doubt be a very interesting video that I’d absolutely love to see you do someday.
