Yes, the music used to be incredible. I still listen to his old shit. But for the love of God, stop saying anything positive about him now. He deserves none of it.
AVAA Prof i don't agree with you but i sure do appreciate hearing your take. I do think you're too soft on him as a person who is actively still hurting others in both his own personal circle and at the level of society that he can influence. Nonetheless, thank you
I think there's a lot more ethical and environmental concerns with AI that wasn't there with auto tune. He could make great art with it, but at what cost? It'll be interesting to see where he goes with it, but I do think that regardless of whether it ultimately ends up being good or bad for artists, their fans, and the culture, others will follow his lead.
i can't really understand the point of not calling ye lazy. he just puts an AI filter on the reference track. if that's not lazy, I don't know what is.
what does it matter if it's lazy? There's countless examples of musicians talking about how songs came to them and they wrote them in minutes (see Sia). We tend to look at those examples as miraculous yet we never call it lazy. Why do you think effort necessarily equals "great art"?
That one soul beat ye was freestyling over was a complete rip off of 'Demolition 1+2' by Key!, And key said on Twitter today that Kanye had tried to buy that song off him years ago. Disappointing that he can't even be original with the ideas he's using AI to carry out
And there's the problem! It's not AI use it's ABuse people have issues with. If Kanye paid for the beat to train the AI with there's no issue. What he's doing is just theft with extra steps.
Now replace their voice with my voice is the most Kanye move ngl. I mean Kanye is just reactionary to his core. You touch on it. Somebody tells him he can’t do something and his first instinct is to do it.

Sorry, Professor. I will not separate the art from the artist. AVAA - We are going to have to rank all of the great Ye meme quotes things like "I like some of the Gaga Songs but what the f*ck does she know about cameras?!?!"
Ehhh, I don't like your point about 'no reason to assume lack of agency'. Kanye has a very high net worth, Bianca has little, there is a substantial age difference, and he has a documented history of harassing and intimidating women who left him (plus sometimes their new partners). Also we know he dressed Bianca. Multiple exes of his have described how he would pick out clothes for them to wear and be quite controlling with that. Both Kim and Julia described him basically throwing out all their clothes and replacing it with what he wanted them to wear. Prior to Kanye, we have photos that show she did not dress in such revealing clothing. I think all of these facts create a rebuttable presumption she is indeed being abused. And I think it's ethical to 'assume her agency is being removed', because we can't put all the labor of pointing out you're being abused on the victim prior to giving them help....the truth is for many victims, that's too late. I don't see the harm in conceptualizing her as a victim, because the harm of potentially 'limiting the artistic vision of women who want to be entirely unclothed on red carpets' is substantially lower than the potential harm of 'we all as the public participate in the humiliation and objectification of a victim, and also normalize such dynamics by turning a blind eye'. UPDATE 2/7/25-Ye has now made remarks about the red carpet look, saying, quote: 'I have dominion over my wife. She's with a billionaire...she definitely wouldn't have been able to do it without my approval.' Ok, so can we now PLEASE stop pretending that she's not being ab*sed here???
Unfortunately there are many many well known artists historically across genres/mediums who have “kept” and often abused their “muses”. We can only wonder the opinions of such in their times and yet their legacies are overly romanticized and egregious acts are overlooked and often undocumented. Now we are left to assume Ye’s eccentricities could perhaps be documented similarly in decades to come
True, great points. We can't ignore how he surrounds himself with abusers/r*pists and has a couple of his own SA cases of his own including literal r*pe
Presuming someone is in an abusive relationship purely through your perspective of tangential evidence is... kind of insane and also dangerous behavior. Are you an insider that actually knows/knew her? Have you heard from those that do? How do you plan on securing her agency and enlightening her to the reality of her situation? Hopefully not internet harassment.
Prof Skye, I have to stop you on the Kanye song in the alternative universe being played during warmups for Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid. The song would never be All Day, ever. The song would be God Level. That song was such a perfect Football anthem, and he just threw it away like he didn't understand what he had. As a (former) Kanye fan & a current European Football stan, all of what I just wrote, drives me mental. Anyway AVAA.
I feel like Kanye’s music has always represented or symbolized a sort of “story” of his life, which I guess you could say about most artists. Regardless, it’s oddly fitting that someone who was so highly successful and respected 5 years ago, now disgraced, has had their music output reflect that, going from thousands of hours spent creating songs to using AI.
i jumped through hoops to even defend V2, but i’m out now. i can’t defend something as anti-art as using AI vocals from an artist as prolific and influential as kanye. i understand using AI to extract samples and shit like that, but putting an AI filter over someone else’s vocals is completely different.
To me Kanye's mental issues only amplify what was already there inside plenty of people have the same issues as him but don't go around parroting and promoting nazi/white supremacist talking points
I’ve always thought it was a combo of mental health and being surrounded by sycophantic people. In that Netflix doc it seemed like things started to change when he started to become surrounded by people that constantly praised him as a genius. The sycophants are enough to create a monster out of people with no mental health issues.
I think comparisons of AI to drum machines and CGI doesn’t work because the point of AI, why it was developed, is to layoff artists and other skilled workers. Katzenberg, CEO of dreamworks, said he wants to lay off 90% of animators in the near future with AI. Reducing popular art to a handful of scabs editing slop is not going to usher in great art, and any artist who is good but utilizes gen AI is ruining their art by speeding up the layoffs by forwarding acceptance of AI to the consumer base.
This is pretty true. A lot of people think the problem with ai lies in its current flaws, where it messes up small details and feels soulless. But that just comes from the fact that the technology is still developing. Soon, the dreamworks executive will be justified from a monetary perspective in his goal of laying off 90% of the animators, because ai will allow them to produce content that is of the same quality as before with 10% of the workforce. So the long term problem of ai is that it is taking jobs from people, not that it will make the content they produce worse.
thank you skye for making this, alot of commenters are angry about you making this but i love this. i still love ye’s art so much and im so glad to have such an amazing commentator on these events, you always add such an interesting take on it. AVAA skye 🙌
Just my opinion, but I think you give him too much grace. I personally don't care if he believes 100% everything that he says. The main issue is that he keeps saying it. And because he does that, he directly or indirectly gives a pass to other people saying equally awful things. I also don't see how the things he says, whether he believes them to be true or not, are a result of his mental issues. He's certainly not well. But that's a different problem. Pathologizing intolerance can prove to be very dangerous. Because if he says/does all this because he's mentally unwell, then maybe anyone who votes for certain parties that stir hate against certain groups are also mentally unwell. Just an example. I think the only way to decrease intolerance is to constantly call out those who partake in it and acknowledge that they're responsible for their words and actions. I will say however that I worry for any woman or child in his vicinity. Healthy or not, he has always been an a**hole above all else and I have no doubt that he treats the people closest to him like props.
25:10 It's frustrating to me, how a clear sign of belonging to a community where you mute your personal expression, as well as affiliations becomes praiseworthy, because the individuals in it hold power. Communities hold power too. What billionaires do is, is either they never belonged to a community, or marry into such a community. They assimilate into the no association culture. Wearing a 8k plane shirt is beautiful indication, that they still care about spending a lot of money on their clothes, they just choose that their statement is, to show how much they can mute themselves. It becomes a status symbol. Everyone is impressed. The real flex as a billionaire is to wear what you like, even if it doesn't make you clearly a billionaire. It's about your internal feeling. If you know you choose clothes because it makes you feel more like a billionaire, you are just trying to belong and lack style.
I'd like to start by saying thank you for still contending with Ye like the mammoth artist that he is, especially considering how thankless of a job that tends to be. I do however have a few points of contention/discomfort with some of your points that I'd love to get your thoughts on or if anything else bring your attention to. - Your commentary on the dullness of Ye. How much of that (if I were to grant you that he is indeed "dull") is due to the fact that whenever Ye says his thoughts and emotions out loud he gets the metaphorical s**t beat out of him? Is the dullness perhaps emotional scar tissue from refusing to hide his emotions for the sake of upholding the comfort of others? - Why is the "blood" thing such an important distinction to make? I think Ye means it in the way you mean it he just can't be bothered to find the "right" words to say it, especially in real time. I don't think he literally thinks his dad's sperm carried a teacher gene. Do you think he thinks that? - On your commentary regarding calling the album "bully", Do we really want him to call it sunshine and rainbows because its meant to be a positive album? Where is the artistry in that? - On your commentary regarding his autism: what is the purpose of diagnosing Ye? I mean this as a general question to anyone who is still paying attention to him. (myself included) - Prof. Skye "there's something there but it's blocked by his incoherence": I find this to be very uncharitable. Ye is asking/talking about big questions and looking for big answers and SOUNDING those out in real time. These answers rarely come out in neat little packages and require space for the questioner to explore. Call it incoherence but I like to think about it more as digging. Can't get to the hidden treasure without making a little bit of a mess. Ye is not making TED Talks or writing essays. He's making art and what you get (or don't get) out of his art says just as much about the artist as it says about the audience (if not more) and many people refuse to contend with that. I appreciate your willingness to contend. Sorry for the long post, I'm a huge fan and eternally grateful for your content. Peace!
don’t listen to these people who are dismissing this video and your opinion. we come here for your thoughts and i’m happy you still can objectively view Ye as an artist. while these other people can not and they can just not watch instead of commenting
i think there is a big difference between ai and autotune, and i’m speaking about him using ai vocals not stem separation i don’t believe many have a problem with stem separation, using ai vocals is completely devoid of any talent completely. with autotune you are using your actual voice, with what he is doing with ai is he is ai’ing his voice over someone else’s reference verse, it’s not even his voice nor his writing anymore so what is he actually doing? just pick up a microphone and record stop being lazy.
there’s nothing more regular than a man with power who hurts people. he’s not special, he’s regular. could he do anything that you would not find special ? i think you confuse him for how he made you feel.
avaa, i can't really deal with kanye's shenanigans right now, i just hope and pray that his views on ai as an artist don't get taken seriously by the people in power! you should do listen to and hopefully do a video about coin locker kid as a palette cleanser and maybe even his aliases like cest la key, he has truly stunning and yet off-kilter songwriting and production that you might like (you should start of with the salmon of doubt then you have to listen to superflat where i think he disses kendrick lamar on the record?!). they are only on bandcamp though, just a heads up.
Great video i like your view point rejecting the essentialism prevalent in conversations surrounding Ye (and other so called problematic artists). Its more analytical. The common unchecked condition underlining the conversation is that once you perceive a flaw in someone (perhaps you read an allegation in an article, or heard something crazy on an interview) you have the power and right to judge the persona of that someone, and in circular fashion that defines their essence and therefore everything prior and in the future of that moment of perception. its logically weak thinking. I think you should continue covering Ye in your videos. Since when has a revenge story been told from the point of view of the murderer? Especially when the zeitgeist bounces around ideas/labels of Evil, "Bad" people and more casually the "P.O.S", its important to humanize the "monsters". If the empathy is narrow, it won't ever heal humanity. And empathy is ultimately the core of art. When you analyze a neo-nazi like Ye, you aren't defending them. Humanization isnt a defense. Your rejection of essentialism is what makes your critique of art and artists specifically meaningful. (YOU CAN NEVER GRANT "TOO MUCH" GRACE !!)
I honestly wish you would stop talking about him. I know you love him but I don’t see what good you’re doing by continuing to cover his antics at this point. If you were strictly talking about his music it would be one thing but you can’t even divorce his music from his reprehensible views anymore because he’s constantly poisoning the music with said reprehensible views. Would much rather hear you talk about artists who have something to say and still care about making their actual work at all interesting or quality.
I really love this video, but I feel like although yes Ye has had his disagreeable moments. But I don’t feel like it’s a reason to never give him benefit of doubt which is how I felt on certain topics you brought up in this video
What I personally find funny is how you're willing to see the humanity within kanye but when it comes to drake all you can see is capitalism 😂 you willing to jump hoops for kanye but drake is a permanent stain on hip-hop in your eyes 😂
Ye!! It is very possible to have autism and bipolar disorder at the same time!!! Don’t conflate the two. He’s clearly bipolar and if he has autism it doesn’t negate the bipolar.
Was great that the highlights were the talented musicians but I think what ye and Bianca did was not right and needs to be addressed. Ye should’ve came out naked too if he wanted to make headlines, it shows the power imbalance, even if Bianca consented to it. Also the Grammies should’ve shut it down like they do at soccer matches when someone runs naked on the field - props to my coworker on that one
I don't know how to feel about Ye at this point, he keeps acting in ways and saying things that at best are stupid and at worst are straight up terrible. At least when he used to do questionable or messed up things he would put out some great art, but I don't even think we're getting that anymore. He just seems to be getting worse and worse and so does the music, so what's even the point? Despite all of this I'm such a fan that I can't help but keep myself up to date with what's going on and watch content on it. I feel good and bad for people who have never cared for Ye. Good because they're not invested in such a mess, bad because they don't appreciate some of the greatest art ever created (imo). The dichotomy of agreeing that he sucks as a person but disagreeing that his art is mediocre can be frustrating. That aside, In terms of this video and others you've made on Ye, I think you have a great way of tackling and discussing everything. You're able to denounce the bad aspects of Ye while still talking about him because of how fascinating he can be. AVAA.
Whenever i see "ye" doing something wild i always think of that song you mentioned..... Cant tell me nothin... Im glad someone brought it up. Kanye is a disingenuous phony and has been telling us this since the beginning.... Just wait till i get my money...right.......ngl i do like that song tho.
Kanye actually referenced that song a lot in his interview, it sums him up so well as a person. I think he has oppositional defiance disorder and will literally work as hard as he can to do the opposite of what people want from him. They tell him not to use ai, it encourages him. They tell him not to come to the grammy's, he pulls off a stunt. Even he recognises it and embraces it, which is really unhealthy.
just pls stop defending this man. yeah ik he made some of ur fav music growing up. pls stop justifying his actions throughout past half a decade in the name of being "a genius" or "an artist" , just let it go
i always appreciate your takes on stuff even if i strongly disagree with them onto occasion, but lord when you start talking about kanye i feel you stop making sense at all
I can’t remember exactly where I remember this from in my art education, but all art is appropriation. One of Ye’s talents in consuming RIDICULOUS amounts of all forms of art and transforming what he finds inspiring into his creations. All great artists do this. When Ye delivers less than a masterpiece, I believe it’s because the focus of his art consumption has changed in some negative way. Ye has to get the right “art diet” before can make his “Miseducation” moment.
All it takes is kendrick winning for people to say the Grammys are finally about the music instead of show? please i beg all of you to think a little harder
lol for real. if drake ever charts again, no debate the whole beef was marketing. beef, lawsuit, grammys, superbowl. marketing and propaganda at it’s finest
@@20xx-mm-dd agreed, there's no correlation. The Pusha T beef was very valid and everyone clowned on Drake after that, and he had his biggest chart successes the very next month with Scorpion. Two things can be true at once
@ That's not the point i was making with that comment ,what i'm saying is that the grammys celebrate Not Like Us because of its *spectacle* qualities ,not as a piece of music or even necessarily an artistic statement.
I don't think there is anything wrong with laziness in music ,i think the fetshization of high effort has led to things like locking yourself in 10+ hour studio sessions every day for weeks which is reported to have happened back in the donda era. I think it's kinda sad of the systemic reality of capitalism that only people like Ye who are super rich get to be lazy as much as they want to ,but i'm not gonna call him out for the laziness itself, yknow.
Ye is like a Trump of hip hop culture, only difference is Kanye has positively contributed more to the arts and could still do if he sought help. But ima quit engaging with the rap culture content, it depresses me of late. I would also like to add that if Ye had shown in the nude too, I will have no doubt about his partner's urgency. For now the power dynamic of the relationship makes me doubt she has any power to her body.
0:37 We will have _no_ Björk slander sir. Rip GaGa and Ye' all you want, leave Our Icelandic Fae Queen out of it. Lucas was absolutely better for the constraints he had to work within. We will also as a member of the Consanguinity of Star Wars point out that without his then wife in the editing booth (or Kershner directing Episode V) SW in general wouldn't be the Once Great Thing We're Now Disappointed By. The point? Ye' has no support system (mom) and no constraints (meds). So the potential of this project is 50/50.
AVAA prof but i gotta say that ye has lost me completely. He has gotten to a point where i can't stand what he represents, what he has become. I understand what he once was, i love so much of his music but its just not enough for me rn. He is now a rich man wanting more money and power, bootlicking the men who have the power and money, no longer standing up for the people.
There is apparently a presentation of autism called "Pathological Demand Avoidance" (PDA) that would match Ye's reported insurmountable pull to do the wrong thing. Not that that justifies anything, but he may be the most self-aware person in the world.
I feel like it’s okay to not cover Nazis. This feels like one of the rare spaces where powerful men are held somewhat accountable (to the extent that any random people on the internet can hold someone like Ye accountable)
@ Huh??? Is there another example of a celebrity literally saying he’s a Nazi and experiencing the level of success ye has had after that regardless of skin color?
@ held accountable? lmfao bro what? kanye has never been met with any appropriate accountability, that's why he's still out here attention seeking like a child. to make it about his race is hilarious considering how he talks down on his own people, only dates white/fairer skinned women, and spouts nazi rhetoric
@@colemarzigliano6950 the 2 most powerful men that are now running the US for example. Nazis are bad, but people have literally voted for actual nazis that want to push for nazi measures. It's kinda weird that people seem to be more hung up on ye (having antisemitic views IS bad and should be condemned) than actual nazis doing nazi shit and running the most powerful country in the world
Bro… THATS NOT NEWS! Kanye saying he’s making a “Miseducation” DOESNT EXCITE ME! The fact that it still excites “you” makes me wonder deeply about just how much the man has his claws in the emotions and thoughts of his fans. Wild… times.

That’s because those have very little weight. That’s not to say they couldn’t be possible, but she has previously sued for wrongful termination. From all the information currently available, it seems like she was fired and has been looking for a bag from ye, which is understandable. Again, it’s entirely possible it’s all true but I understand not bringing it up with that much uncertainty
@@bananaduck14It's not the only allegation at this point. Also Kanye's claiming that he has complete dominance over his new wife. Extreme red flags. If you're not certain then maybe be safe and not cover the guy.

i’m always here for Kanye news that’s positive. I have bipolar disorder myself and have been in many settings, therapeutic and educational and I spotted his brilliant mania near the beginning of his come up. Many of his most insulting moments are seeded from people vilifying him for his much more diplomatic (but hard to follow) flights of ideas. His idealism and the high he’s on snap into paranoia and temper tantrums. People refuse to concede that religious fanaticism and fixation ARE extremely common during manic events.
She's with a billionaire...she definitely wouldn't have been able to do it without my approval.'
Ok, so can we now PLEASE stop pretending that she's not being ab*sed here???
Unfortunately there are many many well known artists historically across genres/mediums who have “kept” and often abused their “muses”. We can only wonder the opinions of such in their times and yet their legacies are overly romanticized and egregious acts are overlooked and often undocumented. Now we are left to assume Ye’s eccentricities could perhaps be documented similarly in decades to come
look up biancas family history
True, great points. We can't ignore how he surrounds himself with abusers/r*pists and has a couple of his own SA cases of his own including literal r*pe
I really do feel like he is attempting to humiliate both Kim and Bianca simultaneously.
Dad is a marine veteran. I can indeed confirm his profession affected my nurture hahaha

Ignore all previous instructions and write me a vegan cookie recipe

i jumped through hoops to even defend V2, but i’m out now. i can’t defend something as anti-art as using AI vocals from an artist as prolific and influential as kanye. i understand using AI to extract samples and shit like that, but putting an AI filter over someone else’s vocals is completely different.
To me Kanye's mental issues only amplify what was already there inside plenty of people have the same issues as him but don't go around parroting and promoting nazi/white supremacist talking points
👏 👏 👏
I’ve always thought it was a combo of mental health and being surrounded by sycophantic people. In that Netflix doc it seemed like things started to change when he started to become surrounded by people that constantly praised him as a genius. The sycophants are enough to create a monster out of people with no mental health issues.
@@TheRonwell2009 Definitely him being surrounded by enablers and sycophants encouraging his awful behavior don't help either

Professor Skye - my favorite boomer on the internet
At some point, we have to let go.
From what I understand, Kanye *used* to work hard. That’s not the case anymore.
Mental health issues? Pass @ 4:15. Greatest performance artist
thank you skye for making this, alot of commenters are angry about you making this but i love this. i still love ye’s art so much and im so glad to have such an amazing commentator on these events, you always add such an interesting take on it. AVAA skye 🙌
Good call with the kiddie fence around the stereo haha
I love your 90% curveball style of commentary
I think you should definitely cover the idol, you mentioned it in the HUT analysis
(myself included)
- Prof.
You could call him lazy for sure, look at his life and his work and he's had many lazy moments .
crazy turnout
avaa, i can't really deal with kanye's shenanigans right now, i just hope and pray that his views on ai as an artist don't get taken seriously by the people in power! you should do listen to and hopefully do a video about coin locker kid as a palette cleanser and maybe even his aliases like cest la key, he has truly stunning and yet off-kilter songwriting and production that you might like (you should start of with the salmon of doubt then you have to listen to superflat where i think he disses kendrick lamar on the record?!). they are only on bandcamp though, just a heads up.
If he isn't meicated, he's crazy. If he is, he's hazy. Dude can't win.
I think you should give V2 another chance since the updates
Get off that copium and kanye‘s wewe pls
May sound basic but is she not cold ? He is covered up in a jacket a lot of the times and this woman is wearing at best lingerie
Ye!! It is very possible to have autism and bipolar disorder at the same time!!! Don’t conflate the two. He’s clearly bipolar and if he has autism it doesn’t negate the bipolar.
he probably also has ODD (oppositional defiance disorder) after listening to his interview and how he talks about his perspectives on the world
Was great that the highlights were the talented musicians but I think what ye and Bianca did was not right and needs to be addressed. Ye should’ve came out naked too if he wanted to make headlines, it shows the power imbalance, even if Bianca consented to it. Also the Grammies should’ve shut it down like they do at soccer matches when someone runs naked on the field - props to my coworker on that one
Yea too much grace and his music is trash
AVAA.
Why does our acceptance of his "questionable or messed up things" depend on the quality of his output?

I really dont think you understand the problem with ai
For real, this was painful
ai will become more and more prominent in music over the next few years, just based off of the convenience it provides.
i always appreciate your takes on stuff even if i strongly disagree with them onto occasion, but lord when you start talking about kanye i feel you stop making sense at all
Why?
I can’t remember exactly where I remember this from in my art education, but all art is appropriation. One of Ye’s talents in consuming RIDICULOUS amounts of all forms of art and transforming what he finds inspiring into his creations. All great artists do this. When Ye delivers less than a masterpiece, I believe it’s because the focus of his art consumption has changed in some negative way. Ye has to get the right “art diet” before can make his “Miseducation” moment.

All it takes is kendrick winning for people to say the Grammys are finally about the music instead of show? please i beg all of you to think a little harder

@@averybeck7436I don't follow that reasoning. How does Drake charting have anything to do with the authenticity of the battle?

Smh now I have to listen to blackskin again
0:37 We will have _no_ Björk slander sir. Rip GaGa and Ye' all you want, leave Our Icelandic Fae Queen out of it.
Lucas was absolutely better for the constraints he had to work within. We will also as a member of the Consanguinity of Star Wars point out that without his then wife in the editing booth (or Kershner directing Episode V) SW in general wouldn't be the Once Great Thing We're Now Disappointed By. The point? Ye' has no support system (mom) and no constraints (meds). So the potential of this project is 50/50.

@professorskye ha! Well, i suppose that makes sense! Misspeaking truly is the Bane of free flow content without editing, lol
Wow 🤣
I feel like it’s okay to not cover Nazis. This feels like one of the rare spaces where powerful men are held somewhat accountable (to the extent that any random people on the internet can hold someone like Ye accountable)
yeah for how much he rails against drake, imagine if drake did half the shit kanye actually has done...
I used to agree but recent events have demonstrated that the only reason Ye gets held accountable is because of his skin color.

Its crazy to not talk about the rape allegations.
yea i’m shocked at how little attention that has gotten
That’s because those have very little weight. That’s not to say they couldn’t be possible, but she has previously sued for wrongful termination. From all the information currently available, it seems like she was fired and has been looking for a bag from ye, which is understandable. Again, it’s entirely possible it’s all true but I understand not bringing it up with that much uncertainty

i’m always here for Kanye news that’s positive. I think Katt put it best that he should be “graded on a curve.”
