  • Let me be honest...I'm out of practice. With all of this. But I'm sharing this update with all of you because it's been weighing on me for months and months now...that I (to borrow a terribly modern term) ghosted you. I did. And I'm sorry.
Sorry for the subpar audio quality.
Check out this video if you care to learn what I've been up to and why I've been, yes, a Gone Girl.

Gina, the phrase "'Ride your own ride" comes to mind. Not only as related to your bike but to you sharing yourself with us here on the "tube". Many of us here found you because of your joy in being a beginning rider and the content you shared with us, but found our own smiles in just seeing your happiness in exploring the world around you. You exude a spirt that is light and wonderful to see. Your fans don't judge you, we experience your joy with you ! And as for your bike.. just find that joy again with the bike that suits you... it's your ride !! ;)

Thanks for the lovely comment and the encouragement. I appreciate it! While I’ve never been a people pleaser, I find myself thinking of the expectations of others more often than I should. At least where this channel is concerned. Day to day I am a frank, straight talking person. I somehow need to allow myself to just be who I am, and go with the flow. And find a better motorcycle FOR ME too. 😊

Ohhhhh! That’s awesome! The play I did last year was set in Ireland and we had an Irish woman as our dialect coach. I was told I did pretty well with the accent (🤷🏻‍♀️) maybe it’s that 9% Irish in my ancestry. Have a blast out there riding. 😊

I watched an Irish comedian the other day that said most of the world can claim some percentage of Irish heritage. His setup was hilarious. I fear I’d just embarrass myself with the accent at this point. 😁

Ginger it's cool to hear your update - glad you're well & busy.
Did you ride the MT07 out to New Mexico ?
Now THAT would be a tour !
(I rode my Burgman 400 from Texas to San Diego & back - crazy adventure)
The bike HAS to work for YOUR circumstances & needs.
    Which only you're privy to.
For me, an ADV model bike is uber daily practical, and on board storage a must.
She needs to carry either $100 of groceries and / or moto camping gear.
Turns out a Suzuki V-Strom 650 aka DL650 is ideal, reliable & affordable.
$3600 for a PERFECT condition one owner with 12k miles.
    It's an 65/35 % street / dirt orientation.
Enough power to go anywhere doing anything but not overwhelming, ever.
    50-60 mpg & can carry 2.
If a person wanted more dirt orientation just get a Kawasaki KLR650 or Suzuki DR650.
I did add small sport Givi side & rear cases and windshield extension but otherwise she's stock.
Actually I did add "lowering links" to bring seat height down 1.75" as I'm only 30" leg & this is a tall bike.
Hope you stay into cycling - a poor bike choice / awkward fit can dampen ones hopes.
Doing that with new bikes can hurt you financially.
I found a really cool "clean, used motorcycle dealer" that had a huge inventory & let me test ride several bikes extensively - or I'd have not been certain enough to choose correctly.
There's a few of these type dealers scattered about but I had to drive 600 miles N to this one.
Feel no pressure to produce more content Tina !
But hearing from you is always appreciated.

I think part of my issue is that I’ve felt due to my age that I should be wiser about my decisions as it pertains to motorcycles. But the fact is, most of the people riding today have been riding for years and they’ve already been through multiple bikes. And they have learned through those experiences. I’m still years behind in that regard. But I will live and I will learn and I will find a new bike. When the time is right.

Well, it’s certainly nice to see you again 😎 I had an MT07 for a while. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. It was plenty fast and flickable, but my 50+ year old knees didn’t like the riding position at all. I ended up selling it, and I don’t really miss it at all. Life is too short to ride a bike you hate. I’m glad to see you back on RUclips. Motorcycle channel or not, I’d still check out your content.

Exactly! I don’t hate the MT, but don’t love it. Just like you. It’s a list of little things that add up to: not the bike for me. Oddly enough, the knee bend was similar but different somehow on my Suzuki - and my knees didn’t mind it. Better things ahead!

Howdy Gina!! I completely understand everything you're saying, as I have the similar circumstances with my channel (The Lone Moose). Yep, editing travel type videos, in my experience is almost a 10:1... 10 hours of editing to every hour of filming time. NM is a beautiful state, I cross it every time I go to Utah. I've been to both Canon and Kirtland Air Force bases in my line of work. I'm a big fan of northern NM, with the base of the Rockies... sheer beauty in a very rugged manner. Last year and early this year has been a very hard year for me as well, losing a son, brother and father. And on top of all of that the big move to Alaska is going to happen in May. I'll finally get to build out my shipping container plus (with additions) home up there. I think I was on my bike one, maybe 2 times last year... not because of the bike, but because of the crazy heat, humidity and weather here in south Texas. I'm going to be selling my Heritage Softail Classic in a month or so. It wouldn't be well suited for Alaska anyway... and for the next year or so I'll be buried with work and building out my place... plus enjoying some of Alaska!! I know there are a lot of moto channels out there, and a lot of single-focused channels... that's just not me, and I think you'd enjoy making other kinds of videos as well! I've got videos on my channel of motorcycle rides, travel, BBQing and cooking, visiting Alaska and other areas, getting back into my leather craft... Of course, I'm a Gemini so I need multiple areas of stimulation to keep my mind occupied... LOL!!! Speaking of NM, you should try to attend the Hatch Chili Festival in Hatch, NM sometime. It's a lot of fun, and great food!! Yes, I did enjoy the micro conversations I had had with you in the past! Maybe seeing you reenergize your channel will be a motivator for me to get back to mine (The Lone Moose) again. And Gina, should ever decide you want to visit Alaska, I should be ready to host guests starting in 2025... you would always be welcome, and maybe we could do some joint RUclips videos together. Take care young lady!! Bill

    • @GingerDashMoto
      @GingerDashMoto  7 месяцев назад

Hey Bill! I’m so sorry you’ve had a year filled with loss. I can only imagine how difficult that’s been. My sincerest sympathies to you.
I’ve heard that Alaska is a truly incredible place to live. It’s certainly the polar opposite climate wise from Texas. If I could afford to move, I would not choose to live in Florida. The heat and humidity has always been too much for me. Although I’m not certain where I’d want to live instead.
My son is at White Sands, so I stayed in Las Cruces and did some hiking. It was beautiful and very different from where I live and I think I’d be quite the hiker if I lived there or anywhere with mountains to climb. The Hatch Chile festival had just ended a week or so before I visited Mew a Mexico, but I did have some incredible homemade salsa while there made with Hatch chiles. I’m a fan!
As far as this channel is concerned, yes, I see it becoming less moto and just more…me. If that makes any sense. You take care and I hope you love life in Alaska!

Thanks for sharing this video - they are always interesting and "not your usual bike content" which is refreshing. As someone who finds it hard to say no to things it's easy to understand how you ended up. Also, I bought a Suzuki Boulevard sometime back and never rode it because I didn't enjoy the bike. I don't think it was a "mistake" in the same way the MT07 isn't for you but bikes are very personal things and there are just some that feel right and some that don't which is tough when you are putting a lot of money down on something that you end up not enjoying. I hope you find the balance you are looking for, I make content on here but it is not regular, I don't talk on the videos and I have no intention of trying to grow a channel, I do it because I like it and if others do too then that's great. I think it's important to find the "why" in things we do. Why make videos, why ride a bike etc. and when I figured that out, then I was comfortable with my choices. I hope whatever you do next brings you joy and if it happens to be another video ... I am sure many of us (judging by the comments) will be here to find out what it's all about. If it's not another video... then all the best with your future direction :)

Hey Gina, missed you young lady.
Glad you had such a wonderful experience working in theatre.
But, I’m sorry your not happy with the Yam. Your right to sell the Yam; many of us have bought bikes then realised, hey, perhaps this bike isn’t the right one for me.
That gives you the opportunity to purchase another motorcycle if and when you want one; when the circumstances are good for you.
I’m fine with you publishing content at irregular intervals; you have to do this in a way that suites your circumstances or it becomes irksome and a disincentive to do so.
I luved your early stuff, especially the local places of interest you showed us. But, time moves on. I look forward to seeing any new content you upload. At least we know your OK and not hurt and you will keep in contact.

I just thought about you a couple of days ago and wondered how you were doing. Glad to hear from you.
I can tell you a little story about the most fun car I ever had: a tiny little Daihatsu Cuore that cranked 44hp out of a 650cc, three(!) cylinder engine and drove like a cart (hard suspension, a very "direct" feel). Compared to that tiny thing, any normal car just feels a bit boring unless you buy a real sports car and become a speed demon on the German Autobahn. While with the Daihatsu I had fun even within city limits (without breaking the speed limit).
Greetings from someone who is the same age as you, also started motorcycling at 50 and rides a Yamaha XSR 125. I don't plan on going any bigger.

      @GingerDashMoto  7 месяцев назад +1

Yeah…small bikes are fun for different reasons than the bigger/faster ones. I don’t have any issues with the power on this bike. It’s just a host of other small quirks and existing problems from the original owner that have me gearing up to sell. I need to fix a bad mod first. But then it will be on to something better. For me. 😊

  • @karenbenzie

Hi Gina, I was really pleased to see a video update from you.
I’ve been wondering how you’ve been over the last year.
I’ve enjoyed your motorbiking journey being a 50 plus woman myself returning to biking after a 20 year gap.
I have 3 daughters and 5 grandkids, life takes over and you need to be doing what’s right for you.
I have a Honda Hornet, which I absolutely love but I started back riding on a Honda Rebel 500. Great bike to get me back into riding and I kept it after I bought by Hornet. I totally fell out of love with it after getting my Hornet, just didn’t enjoy riding it, so I sold it. As others have said, sell the MT and find yourself something you enjoy.

This has always been a bit of a struggle for me as I end up pulled in too many different directions. Regardless, I’m hopeful that I’ll find the bike that’s just right for this time around. I’d like to be happy with the motorcycle I own and look forward to riding again. All the best to you!

Funny you should post this now. Just a day or two ago, I got to wondering where some of the RUclipsrs I follow went. I searched “Ginger Dash” only to find year-old videos. So, as I’m getting ready to prepare music for church and an upcoming memorial service, I had to stop and watch this video. Glad to see that you are well. Congratulations on your theater endeavors. My wife has been on and off with local theater for years. Please don't beat yourself up over your MT-07, and follow your instincts to ride what you enjoy. I'm 64 and have owned dozens of motorcycles of all shapes and sizes, (excluding full touring models) my current favorite rides are a 2013 Honda CBR250R with a Corbin seat and slightly more upright bars, and 2018 KTM Duke 390 that is the same weight and REALLY fun to ride. I prefer the smaller bikes and find that the ONLY time I'm disappointed with them is if I ride with other bikes. So I don't ride with other people. You do you, and thanks for the update. I enjoy your content, whenever you post it.👍

Hey Porter! Theater is something I can't imagine not having in my life, although I've gone through dry spells when I just couldn't make it fit within my schedule. It was good to get back on stage. I have some parts on order to fix what the original owner messed up with half finished mods, so once those are all taken care of...I will definitely sell the bike. Not certain yet what I'll replace it with, but I suppose that choice is half the fun. Take care!

Hello! It's good to see you again! I've always found that a lot of what you say resonates with me; that started when I found your channel and realized that I wasn't the only one who started riding motorcycles as a 50-something. I also can relate to a lot of what you said today about your channel. I have a channel geared around my other hobby that has been a passion for most of my life. I came late to the RUclips game, and it's something I do because I enjoy sharing my work and having conversations in the comments. I don't have a business, I'm not using the channel to build my brand there, so I have a different view of what my channel is than others in that community, which I'm fine with. While I was working (2 jobs) and finishing up a college degree, I didn't have time to do videos regularly, and at one point it was 3 months between videos. I really felt like you did; coming back was almost harder than doing that very first video. Now that I'm done with school and have more time for my hobbies, I'm working to find a balance around how often it's reasonable to create videos and having good content to share.
Anyway, that's more than I intended to say (smile). It's good to see you again, and I'll be watching to see where your adventures take you and you take your channel here!

Hi!! And what you said in your comment resonates with ME. Balance is definitely the key, and something I've always struggled with. I've only just recently wondered if I have ADD...simply based on seeing someone describe themselves and their ADD traits and it sounded just like me. I tend to have too many interests, and not enough time to devote to any of them. Inevitably, that means none of them are properly served. I refuse to believe it's too late to learn to better manage my life though...so I keep moving forward with positivity (most of the time). It's good to hear from you. Take care!

My last video was a few months ago. It was the first video on this channel in years. Interestingly enough, it was my first motorcycle blog. Boy does it suck trying to get good sound on a bike. (Correction, I posted a video of deer trying to kill me just before that.) I still have an RV video filmed 2 years ago an only half way through editing. RUclips can be a job or it can be a fun hobby. If you are not trying to make it a full time job, there is no reason to post any more than you feel like it. I have several channels. One for gaming, one for farming an harmonica, this one for RVs an travel, an I am working on a social commentary channel. Not posting for years is not unusual for any of them. I go back to what feels fun at that time... You do you. Good to see you are ok though.
As for your new bike, I am a strong believer in the saying "its more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow." Bikgger bikes are cooler, but not as much fun. While I am thinking of getting a new Royal Enfield Classic 350, I dont need anything bigger. If you have the time to check out my motorcycle blog video, you will see my current 230cc bike has no problem doing the speed limit + here on these mountain roads, even the steep ones. It just slightly to slow to jump a few exits on the interstate. A 70MPH capable bike would be nice. But mainly I want ABS an fuel injection.

    • @GingerDashMoto
      @GingerDashMoto  7 месяцев назад

You offer us some great advice here. I think I’ve been too hard on myself. When I started the channel I had no idea how much of a time suck it would be to post every week. Or even every other week. My life is busy and yeah…this is only ever going to be a hobby. So it should be fun. As far as bikes are concerned, I have no issues with the power of the MT07. It’s a solid bike in that regard and nowhere near too much for me. It’s everything else. Lots of small nit-picky things that when added up just makes it less enjoyable to ride than a traditional sport bike - which is still my preference. Naked bikes with an upright seating position just aren’t the same…
I’ll make a note about your motovlog/video and try to get over there when the comments die down over here. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for the encouragement!

Thank you for the video, instead of it being an update for me, it was an introduction. I love your honesty Gina and I'd like to offer you that you OWE nobody ANYTHING for not being present on RUclips. You were just living life, and sometimes you need that, because what you explain as the pressures of content creation are so true. I don't have a channel, but have content editing software and have tried my hand at editing some video I have created, and it's not easy! As you explain, lots of non-linear splicing and stitching, it's so time consuming!
As for riding your bike, I am not a typical rider either, I am 63 years old, always wanted to ride, and bought my first motorcycle (Harley Davidson Street Glide) and learned to ride about 9 months ago. I love when I get to ride, but that is largely on the weekends here in Casa Grande, Arizona (Where at least the riding is good a large part of the year). I would encourage you to get the right bike for you and enjoy riding it as you have time. Don't let anyone tell you what is right or wrong with respect to your motorcycle journey. We all come at the experience from our own perspectives. I found I needed to raise 3 children first, then I finally had the money and time to explore motorcycles. Take care and be well Gina.

Hi Gina! Thanks for the update. I have been wondering what you were up to and how you were getting along with the MT-07. I started riding about five years ago also at the age of 50. I started on a Honda Monkey and loved that little bike. About two years ago I got the itch to get something bigger and bought a KTM adventure bike. I’m glad I kept the Monkey, because I didn’t really enjoy riding the KTM. Last Fall I traded in the KTM on a Royal Enfield Hunter 350 and I have to say I really like it to the point where I think I’m probably ready to sell the Monkey. I hope you find something you like to just hop on and ride. I think it’s great that you do theater and have other interests to keep you busy. Riding motorcycles is fun, but it doesn’t have to be everything or the only thing you do. Be well and God bless. 🙂

Definitely, in the world we live in, it feels like there is this constant need to update everybody in your network about stuff with the prevalence of different social media networks. And it can get tiresome at certain points.
About the bike, yeah definitely. Sometimes an "upgrade" may not really be an upgrade at all in hindsight. But that is part of the beauty of any hobby I guess: The growth that comes from experiences, insights, and eventually settling on something we are personally content with.

As much as I was looking forward to seeing what you planned to share - I am happier to have watched this and seeing that you were doing something you love ! As for the bike, I switched out my last bike to my current one - and I wasn't feeling it ... at least until I took a few extended journeys. It's still not ticking all my boxes, but I don't think I know what those boxes are - it's just something isn't ... and was more on my last bike. My friends say that happens ... but it's not enough to just keep switching to find that 'forever bike'

Thanks for the kind words and the advice as well. I think what I miss most about be Suzuki is the riding style that bike promoted. I definitely plan to return to what I consider a traditional sport bike, but not a 250. Probably looking for a 400/500 that will feel like just enough “oomph” while not breaking the bank. Once I get the MT half done mods “fixed” (it came that way), it won’t require disclaimers when I sell it. Parts are in order, so…onward and upward in the next few months. I plan to ride it a little longer and then I’ll probably choose a new bike in the fall, since I don’t ride here in the summertime.

So I've been riding since 2001 and I've taken a lot of time off in all those years. Literally my last break was 8 years! I still kept my motorcycle but I should have sold it. It sucks that the dealership didn't let you ride this new bike before you bought it. There are many dealerships that will. Just be prepared to walk away from a buy when they say no. "I've been burned in the past and simply refuse to buy without a test ride." Hell even Harley Davidson let me test ride my new bike when they knew I was serious and that was a $20,000 brand new bike.
    Ride what you want
    Ride when you want
    Ride where you want
And don't let anyone try to convince you to do what you don't want to do.
I had a friend that used to give me grief for not riding my bike all the time to work after I bought it. For long periods of time I wouldn't ride it to work and he was like "Why did you spend all that money if you're not going to even ride it." and I replied "Why do you even give a fuck? It's not your bike, it's not ever going to be your bike. It's my bike and I'll do what I want with it....including putting it in the garage to fall apart if that's what I want to do. Glad to hear from you. Life gets in the way of our other things sometimes. Theater is a huge commitment. Kudos to you for doing the show and being part of two others. I have a coworker that does a show a year so I see the commitment first hand. If you don’t care for the bike I would suggest seeing if any mods might make it better or removing some. If not look to trade. Being on a bike you don’t care for takes the fun out of the ride. Looking forward to your next video whenever it happens.

Hey Doug! I usually limit myself to one show per year as well. Performance wise anyway. I didn’t expect the other shows to be as time consuming as I was production “staff” rather than acting. But it’s a different kind of commitment and just as time consuming. I enjoyed it though. It was a fun, new challenge.

Congrats on the new bike and figuring out what did and did not work for you. I’m in the same boat here. The MTO7 is a great bike. But it’s a naked, upright, seating position style of riding. I kind of hate it. I want all of the things that my little sport bike offered with a little bit more power. So I see myself going more in the ninja 400 direction or something like that. We shall see. Enjoy your new ride!

Nice to see you again! Motorcycles are similar to guitars in that you have to bond with them for them to stay to be enjoyed. I’ve sold as many guitars as I currently own, not because they weren’t good, they just didn’t click with me. When you find a bike you bond with you know it almost immediately and the ride is fun and natural. Good luck on the search.

That is spot on, Robert. Despite it being underpowered (in a sense), I bonded with my 250 in a way I never will with the MT07. Fingers crossed for a better match out there for me motorcycle wise.

Good to see you again! Explanations aren't really necessary, but thanks anyway. Several folks I've followed haven't posted for some time, and one guy I know took his whole channel down, thankfully I did get his personal contact info some time ago so was able to meet up with him on my last NC trip this past October. Irish accent, eh? Sounds like fun with the theater gig, did the musical shows in high school (as part of the pit band), definitely adds up the hours when it comes to rehearsals.

    • @GingerDashMoto
      @GingerDashMoto  7 месяцев назад

The Irish accent was fun! The play was challenging but also rewarding. I think this channel probably just needs to be about me. Which sounds terribly narcissistic (ha), but what I mean is not limited to moto content that represents such a small subsection of my life. I come up with ideas and then discard them. Maybe I’ll discard less of them going forward. Thanks for stopping by!

Another aspect of having been in the band way back then was a trip to Ireland for ten days after we placed highly in several local holiday parades; we'd been there several days when I noticed I'd picked up an accent just from being around it that much. It was an interesting experience; I remember being on the tour bus, riding from Shannon up to our first stop in Galway, and having the distinct impression I had not just arrived in a foreign country but rather had left one.

Glad to see a new video from you. Hope to see another soon. Pursuing your passion, nothing wrong with that. If the MT doesn't fit, get something that does. You seem to enjoy riding so.... I've bought and sold quite a few bikes over the past few years. We recently went a totally different direction and bought a Harley. I'm not a Harley guy but for touring which is what we want to do, there are only a few choices, Goldwing, Harley or Indian. We came across a great deal on a Road Glide so we are trying it out for a year, then decide if we want to stick with it or go a different direction.

    • @GingerDashMoto

The simple truth is, I enjoy the riding position of a sport bike. And I like having a windscreen. And I like sitting in the bike, or feeling as if I’m one with the bike, whereas the MTO7 has you sitting on top of it. It’s a whole lot of little things. Sometimes the bike just isn’t the right one. Enjoy your new bike as well and I hope you get in a lot of touring.

Riding is dangerous as any age. There’s no avoiding that fact. Mostly due to other drivers though, no matter the skill of the rider. I’m selective about where and when I ride. I want to enjoy it while also not feeling as if I’m in a game of motorcycle-frogger. 😊

    @bradwoodard8289 7 месяцев назад

Glad to hear you're doing okay. As someone who started riding after 50, I can relate. At our age, we have a lot going on. I always thought being an empty nester would be boring!
Based on what I'm hearing from you, if you plan to sell your bike but keep riding, take a look at a Triumph Bonneville T100. I keep coming back to mine no matter what else I ride. Handles like a ballroom dance partner, looks gorgeous parked outside a cafe. It has enough power to keep you interested but not too much that when I get to my 60's and 70's, I'll be worried about taking it out around town. They hold up well and you can get some great deals on used ones.
Hang in there day by day, post when you can! Do some shorts if you want, a lot of Motorcycle Vloggers are having success with that format.
Wishing you the best of luck!

Good for you! My complaints about this bike are that it isn’t a traditional sport bike. That’s the prime issue I have.
