We had so much fun making this short- I hope you enjoy watching it! A huge thank you to the wonderful cast and crew who put so much into this film.
💯
Had rewatch twice he was shoplifting lol so sad they need make this into a full movie
What year is this set in?
@@hunterslaptop2002 hi! It’s a non specific time- around 200 years or so… all records are lost to the wastelanders
@@patiencemyers1597 thank you! Yes we plan more films in this world! A feature is planned:)
Him shouting "buy one get one free!" Was such a good touch. To us, its something we hear everday. To him, its a secret code lost to the ages. And the grocery store is still in business! They just sell...off brand meat.
Thank you! yes we tried out many lines for that scene and that one just worked!
@jonathanbentley6548 it was incredible. I so hope you folks make a follow up!
@@blanketfortressofsolitude5270 Thank you! it really means a lot to us... we have spent so many years working on this! the next one is on the way!...:)
corpse starch
The world must have been in a pretty bad place before it "ended" if that was what passed for civilization.
Brilliant and chilling at the same time , echoes of solyent green for us older guys , loved it .
Ha yes - a big influence for me! I grew up on 70s dystopian sci fi! Thanks for watching:)
I posted the same thing before seeing your comment!!
wow so soylent but edgy bot/consumer
All will be consumed, the process awaits
the short coming soon
Solylent green…..exactly what I was thinking.
As my friend and fellow creative said, it was had work but so exciting to work on Wastelander. Soylent Green is definitely in there, and there are a number of other influences, too. Thank you for your words it truly helps, bud.
Well that's horrific, and quite sad. Amazing visuals in the forest. Would've liked to see more of that.
Thank you! Yes totally agree- we plan to do more stories in this world and it’s good to know what is working!
Truly horrible. And very well done. Please fix the subtitles so we don't get the USian "Mommy" when "Mummy" is actually said, in English 😉
@@williamstucke5445 Mummies are from Egypt.
@@TheRealSkeletor Hah hah.
Hi, I have already written a feature version of The Wastelander Sector 23. The world is even more terrifying, with splashes of dark humour. Thank you for your encouraging words.
Excellent work in every department. But, yikes, such a dark world. This is one of the few Dust shorts that I would like to see realized as a full-length feature. So many disturbing questions to be answered. Kudos to everyone on the project, especially JB, the director. You have real vision.
Thank you so much, thats too kind! We plan to make more stories in this world, we designed so much detail when world building that didn't make it to the final film. Many more characters and many more stories to tell.. perhaps not all so dark! :)
Hi, I have already written a feature version of the Wastelander, with detailed accounts of the terrifying fauna and plant insect arachnid cross species life forms. With may I add a good gloop of dark humour.
@@paulkavanagh1032 where can we find this? Be great to make it into a film. So many questions need answering about this world 😃
Falling into the Super Duper Mart is never a good idea.
agree! - Not even if theres a Deathclaw chasing you ;)
You said it, bud, and thank you for your comment.
What a twist on consumerism and religeon. Brillian story telling and visuals. A real gristly thriller. Thank you big time.
Thank YOU! glad you enjoyed it as much as we did making it :)
So true indeed .....
Your words are a breath of fresh air. I loved the collaboration with Jonathan and the team. Hang in there. We have some great stuff in the pipeline.
That's just beyond messed up! Great story and short! Goes to show, you best be careful what you long for.
Thank you! Yes... I still feel sad for him at the end!
How true my friend.
Absolutely amazing, I would watch a 2 hour version, we need more movies like this
Thank you! We are very keen to take this world into a feature and explore the other sectors!…
A very heartwarming motion picture for the whole family!
lol yes… it’s positively Disney-esque! Thanks for watching:)
Your comment tickled me. It was like listening to myself. Cheers.

10/10 Riveting action, charismatic acting, intriguing storyline, top notch cgi. Can’t wait for next week’s episode.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :) there will be more to come:)
got home after my hospital shift, on time to catch a fresh DUST video...
LFG!!!
thank you! :)
LFG!!! Cringe comment 🏆
Wonderful comments like this are the icing on the cake.
This was AMAZING! Was not expecting that ending but when he was dragged down the corridor and I saw the processing sign I KNEW this was going to be horrific but it wound up being worse than anything I thought it was going to be. Bleak doesn't even begin to describe this ending. Very, VERY well done.
Thank you! We grew up on 70s and 80s sci fi and wanted to capture that grimdark vibe! Thanks for watching!
Amazing - stunning world building !
Thank you so much ☺️
Outstanding camera angles when running from the Zerg creature. The chatter from the ring added a lot to the tension.
Thank you! Building that creature scene took so long! The challenge in getting those angles with limited live action plates was immense- so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and the comment! :)
Shorts like this are the reason I keep watching Dust. Great visuals, action progression, the inclusion of the nanny-bot was a nice touch. Nothing to add, just thanks for this, and keep up the good work!
Thank you very much! We are fired up to create more content!
Thank you for your encouraging words. I loved creating this world with Jonathan. There was so much more we wanted to add both with the visuals and dialogue, but time and dare I say costing stopped us. Still, there is a feature script in the safe, so watch this space.
Excellent work! Very exciting with a surprising ending. Very convincing VFX. Love it!
Thank you so much for the comment! glad you enjoyed it :)
Canticle for Leibowitz? That's some rugged and reliable business IT to keep running for years,
A book that is on my list! Thanks for watching :)
Absolutely brilliant, also very dark indeed... Well done, Wastelander team... this was an incredible piece of work. One of my favorite films on Dust!
Wow thank you! That means a lot to us! So glad you enjoyed it!
Your comment made my day.
Superb graphics!! another hollywood killer. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it:)
Awesome work everyone involved! Wow, loved it!
excellent Sci FI short with a good dose of dark humor ✌
Thank you! we had a blast making it
Amazing …great job!!!
i was on the edge of my seat the whole time. CGI?... i couldnt tell if it was or not!
Thank you so much! Yes we used 3D studio max and then adobe after effects… a long and painstaking process but a lot of fun! Thanks for watching :)
Surprisingly awesome, it's been a while since I've been able to say that, which is why I say 'surprisingly', so very well done to all involved in this. The story really pulls you into this world quickly & the pace was just right. Don't listen to those suggesting a full movie, we know the before & the after, so this was well enough to tell the whole concept, great.
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it. A great point...I think if we did a feature it would be a completely new story set in the same world. There’s still so much of the world to explore! Thanks for watching
I was unreasonably angry at all the grinder blades spinning the same way, making for a terrible grinder
yes... a fair point :)
Well done to all involved. Wonderful work! Very very impressive visuals. Loved it. Would love to see a Making of
Thank you very much! We are working on a making of and will share as soon as possible! - thanks for watching the movie :)
I was talking to Jonathan about this very subject. I want to do it.
Fantastic! Absolutely 5 stars all round.
Thank you so much!
Please keep making shorts like this. Seriously, bravo.
Thank you so much! yes indeed we will- the response to this film has lit a fire under our next project. thanks for watching :)
We are currently working on our big project.
Another awesome story! You packed a lot into a few minutes.
Thank you! And there’s a ton we left out! We went a bit overboard creating the world ;)- but plan to revisit to explore more. Thanks for watching:)
2:03 .... Moon destroyed. Nice touch!
Thank you! And Thanks for watching!
So happy you noticed it.
Great video! Thanks!
Thank you! and thanks for watching :)
That was entertaining...and a bit grim. Very cool world building.
Thank you!
kind of a modern twist to the old move Solin Green lol
Yes it (and other 70s sci fi) was a huge influence. Thanks for watching :)
Amazing work and so very well done. I am deeply impressed! Wow!
Thanks Mathew!
Thank you so much.
Thank you for your support.
Excellent!!! 👍🏻
Thank you! thanks for watching it :)
This looks fantastic!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed:)
Masterpiece!
wow thank you! that is too kind! glad you enjoyed :)
The store has an extreme punishment for shoplifters. 😲😲
Yes, a tad over the top.
So the "Oracle" is the dragon we all chase when buying material possessions in efforts to fill the lonely void we have in our lives. Only to be faced with the "Security" that will eventually plummet us into a financial hole of darkness.
Exactly! a rabbit hole we had best avoid...
Great insight!
Very well put.
Outstandingly exceptional!
Thank you David! :)
Wow! Excellent design and production values - and story! Thanks.
Thank you! we put a lot of effort into building the world! it means a lot to us that you enjoyed it :)
Thanks to the artists at Dust for this beautiful film. Hopefully, with the advent of AI, it will become easier and quicker to make such entertainment.
Thank you so much! You make a really powerful point.I think AI can be a useful tool, so long as we continue to use it as creatives and not let it dictate aesthetics or creativity. Thanks for watching! :)
Brilliant! I loved it.
Thank you very much HannahGuitars!
Terminator meets Soylent Green? Very well produced, top tier CGI artwork . . . but hey, given the problems we've been having with shoplifting in recent times, I could be good with the solution suggested here . . . OK, just an idea.
Thank you! yes... might be a step too far though :D
Reminds me strongly of a Crysis 3 setting. Very well done.... Fascinating movie with a good story. Thanks to all involved in this ! Good luck with other projects.
Thank you! that game world was a big influence on us. Lots more to explore though...
Wow! this is very good. Would love a movie of this.
Thank You! We have plans for more stories set in this world
I have with Jonathan written an entire world for the Wastelander. It will be terrifying and darkly humorous.
Wow, fantastic , very good story and quality
Thank you, that means a lot 😊
Finally some action here! Love it! I need more! :)
Thank you! the action scenes are just a fraction of what we completed. originally the opening scene lasted 5 minutes!... it was a bit too much. We may one day release the extended cut
@@jonathanbentley6548 Yes please!!!
And there shall be more.
It is already in the making.

I would love to see more stories set in this universe.
Thank you Thomas! we are on the case!...
I'm already working on it.
Fantastic! Amazing story line and affects…
Thank you so much! It was a monumental effort! Thanks for watching:)
Fabulous.
That was an amazing and dystopian future. Beautifully made.
Thank you very much! its been a passion project for some time :)
Wow!! Incredible VFX & story
Thank you! It means a great deal to us!
very cool how they made this ,its onbelieveable ,so much detail ,and maybe hundres hours of work to made city design ,super big respect 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much! Yes the estimate was around 12k hours on post production… then I stopped counting! :) thanks for watching!
@@jonathanbentley6548 woooow, empressive 12k hour wooow ,take a lot of patience to made it,but its worth👍👍👍
I really enjoyed this, thank you. It was nightmarish then...suddenly, and horribly, familiar.
Thank you! yes the grim cycle we portray here is not by accident.
I loved making it . More to come.
Great job on this film really enjoyed it special effects are awesome.
Thank you Jimmy! That’s too kind! Thanks for watching:)
The guys worked so hard.
Halfway through I was thinking, "this could be serialized...." Never mind.
LOL...yes we did consider that! :) although this is not the only story we have for this world! Thanks for watching! :)
Very, very impressive.
We need a whole series about this world.
Thank you! We have plans to expand this world into more stories

Awesome short film! 😍
Well done 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it:)
This was incredibly interesting, and now I have unrealistic standards for anything I create going forward haha, seriously though this was so good and subverted my expectations multiple times, I love it.
Thanks Adam! That’s too kind! - I’m sure you can do better than it - always set your standards to “unrealistic” and it will turn out better than you expected
Damned interesting. Damned dark. Damned good. Thanks for making this. Good science fiction never gets old....as long as it's good.
Thank you so much!
"It's better to be safe than tortured and killed."
Your carefully crafted comment made my day. The hard work as the writer and the physical exertion as the Wastelander has paid off. I wrote so much more in the script that did not make it into this short. But it will definitely appear in the feature as soon as we get the all-powerful green light. I love dark humour and that nature in the real world doesn't care about your feelings. Thank you once again for your creative and much appreciated observations.
One of my favourite lines.
Avec plaisir!
(Il y a de quoi. C'était très bien pensé.)
