- Xbox game pass is unquestioned as one of the best values in gaming today but despite that it is a constant source of debate on whether it is good or bad for Xbox and gaming as a whole. Leading up to the Xbox Showcase 2024 I thought we'd see Xbox downplay Game Pass but they came out swinging with a series of great-looking trailers with every single one of them followed by "play it on game pass" proving my theory completely wrong.

Playstations 100 million users...who claim they won the console war will take up the slack and pay their 2000 dollars a year in games.
10:15 How can it be sustainable or beneficial for developers to have people download Lies of Pi on Game Pass, play it for an hour, then uninstall it and give it a low score? Wouldn't it be more advantageous to have players on Steam and PlayStation purchase the game at full price, play it through, and give it a high rating, ensuring a return on investment? If the goal of Game Pass is to let people try the game but they end up rating it poorly, it seems counterproductive. As a developer, I'd rather they not play the game at all than risk a low rating from a brief trial on Game Pass. From a business perspective, this approach doesn't make sense. Can someone explain the rationale behind this strategy?
gamepass is sustainable because ponys will spend the money ....subsidizing gamepass for me.
Even with gamepass you have to own the game in order to review it. Also multi player is available with the "gamepass core" sku.
Their own org chart shows Xbox is a division of Microsoft Games. I think that alone shows the position Xbox is in.
Lets be real here, Black Ops 6 on Gamepass is their last Bullet to convince everyone to subscribe. I still think CoD´s core playerbase who plays the game basically every day mostly plays very little other games and I still dont get why they should sub to Gamepass + buy a PC or a Xbox instead of just buying the game since they basically dont play much other stuff anyway. Maybe it works for 1-3 months with a big increase in subs (Casuals), but if you know CoD, its multiplayer kinda dies everytime after a few months and most players probably wont go for a full year subscription anyway since (again) they could just buy the freaking game. The numbers will go down after 1-3 months Im totally convinced. I still think they will just miss out on so much more money.
Bobby kotic threatened to remove cod from xbox once to get a better revenue split. If bobby was willing to loose it its not a significant portion of the revenue from cod.

Than they will fail. Wanting to have Netflix numbers just shows how people at MS don't understand gaming. I said it several times over the years. You will never have Netflix numbers with a service like GP. Gaming is an active hobby, it requires work, effort, time and dedication. I'm talking about AAA gaming. TV shows on the other hand, are for general public (young, old, retarded, geniuses, armless people, quadriplegics, deaf, mute, ANYBODY) and requires 0 effort.

I agree. This is a short term play to appease the GamePass subs and maybe draw in some budget-restricted CoD players.

I would say there is a split in that department some don't care about owning games just playing them. The question I have is how long before microsoft start raising the price as we have seen with every sub service which eventually leads to people cutting the cord.

If all people really play is COD it's cheaper just to buy COD. But if they want COD and to try more things out gamepass makes sense. We shall see how it goes.

Gamepass is much much more than COD...as you saw from the showcase 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 if you add up the dollar amount of games Microsoft publishes that is coming out for ps5 ....that was in the showcase... its almost 2 thousand dollars. Where gamepass users pay 178.89 for all that and MORE!!!!!!!!!!!

Doom the Dark Ages, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War EDay, Halo, Star Wars: Battlefront 2015&2017..... I'm a shooter guy I love shooters and game pass has become very attracted for me this is going to be more epic than paying full price for games.

I think both are true to some extent, at least from my experience. I've played and later bought games because they either went off the pass or I simply wanted to support the developer. But at the same time, I've played games once and would not buy them unless I would somehow want to play them later on, which is not likely.

I’m old school I always buy my games and I buy them as a physical disc. I will not buy any digital only games as you don’t own them, same with subscription services as you own nothing. I have collected video games and consoles since the NES and have a huge collection safely boxed and with all the inserts etc. This collection has some games worth serious amounts of money, and you don’t have that with subscription services or digital only games. Physical discs is the only way to go, after all I always ask someone who goes on about the value of GamePass, how much is their games collection/library worth, and I guarantee you it’s Zero, nothing, nada. Xbox and GamePass offer me as a consumer absolutely nothing and has no value.

xbox ult $17 a month meaning after month 4 it starts being more expensive to play on gamepass if you're a dedicated player, but if add in 9.99 month for console online you have pay anyway it actually about even trade 189.88 a year (9.99x1+70) vs $204 yearly gp ult.
and ponys have to pay nearly 2000 dollars for all those games at the showcase... and thats just THOSE GAMES. OOOF

Nope because a lot of places sell GP in bulk, such as 3 months, 6 months or 12 months. I usually get the 3 month bundle which is the same price as subbing the normal way for 2 months, so I get 3 months for the prices of 2. Over an entire year that works out as 12 months for the price of 8.
All the games are about shooting things, this gets annoying, I want to build something or engage in fun gameplay mechanics with other people who like to build things.

i think PC players are the main target here. It's unlikely that PS players are going to switch ecosystems. Sticking with day and date for PC players and adding CoD could bring over huge numbers. I think we'll see WoW on gamepass soon too.

I don’t typically play COD. I don’t like the fast movement speed of the character. But I’m going to play black ops 6 because it’s included in Game Pass.
This might be one of the worst call of duty sales of all time sure the player numbers will be high, but the sales number won’t be as high as if it wasn’t on gamepass

One additional advantage of Gamepass is the ability to get the incremental upgrade. With Starfield it was only $30 to get the premium features, like DLC and early access. I will purchase similar incremental upgrades for CoD and Age of Mythology. For Vessel of Hatred, SW Outlaws, and AC Shadows I will have to buy the full price Ultimate or Deluxe editions. For Avowed and Indiana Jones I am waiting for the preorder info to decide whether only the Gamepass version is sufficient.
It won’t work. Call of Duty won’t save Game Pass, and Game Pass won’t save Xbox.

@@ReforgeGaming they’ve made it pretty plain they aren’t interested in exclusives, XBOX Games Studio games included. As a PS5 and XSX owner, I don’t really care either way, other than I’m happy to see Game Pass isn’t going anywhere, and that’s where I will choose to play every time. Lol.

Thats not true at all. Gamepass is consumer friendly as hell, but idk if you noticed : literally every single triple AAA Xbox exclusive which went day 1 on gamepass doesnt met expectations + feels like they did not try as much as they should. Im subscribed to Gamepass sometimes for a month or so if Im interested in games like Palworld for example and I like Gamepass. Still Im a believer of the Gamepass games quality standart which went down for sure. I like so many Xbox Ip´s and in no world Im like "yeah Fable will be great at release". For example if someone like Naughty Dog releases a game on console, Im 100% sure which kind of quality standart Im getting for my money. All Xbox cares about is putting out as many games as they possibly can to promote Gamepass and thats it. They have to prove me wrong after Starfield, Halo, Hellblade 2 etc until I can say "yeah maybe they just fucked up there, but they care about good games".

Enjoy the extreme lag you'll experience! My cousin bought the latest Samsung TV and subscribed to gamepass the lag is ridiculous! Yep you can play it anywhere but not all screens will perform like an actual console hooked up to a TV.

I don't think you understand the power of cod. cod sells consoles and if you think people won't switch because of cod or cod in game pass your wrong casuals wont look at it the way you do that $30 upgrade threw game pass for the skins and early Access will sell like hot cakes Sony only has as many cod players as it does because they had early access before everyone map packs and exclusive skins and that's all gone now. When cod is advertised everywhere by Xbox casuals will think just Xbox because of what they see like you say about Sony 3rd party exclusives cod players are not buying ps consoles because of Sony exclusives.
I don’t think you understand. If I play cod on Sony and I used it to, built my eco system and etc, why would I buy an Xbox and then GP sub to start all over again? Many people will prefer to buy it once and done with it

I can pretty much guarantee that some of the 48% of PlayStation owners still on PS4 only play COD, and they are going to be considering an Xbox Series S over a PS5 now because it's a much cheaper upgrade if you only play COD
I don't support gamepass because devs deserve alot more support from us then what they are getting. How the hell are they meant to make some coin? What with Microsoft paying them out? Whatever..

This only works if the games are good. They look good no doubt, but if it’s just that the PS dudes won’t buy the games. They want story, gameplay and great experiences. Graphics alone isn’t gonna cut it.
Do you fund Konami or Capcom when you buy their games?
If game pass doesn’t work neither will the current model Sony is running. The reality is games cost too much to make and unless there’s a model change and more games are released on other platforms then video games are in trouble. MS is just getting ahead of it. Sony know the reality they just have more time because they are the market leader.
And If anyone doesn’t think they are worried then they’re not paying attention to the industry at all.
Gamepass is stainable by putting there games on steam the biggest market. while other people get gamepass and the money per month from that grows. Combined them both and they are completely fine in long term and short term.

I think the many different games and genres in the service give you that choice. Also you can still buy all these games too it's not exclusive to the service it's another option of access.
