They can't benefit from exclusives in the way that other companies can. The only way forward is to produce a console that is so dominant that it's reminiscent of that first Xbox generation a console that would be so expensive to make they lose the farm every time they sell one, this is the only Way to maintain interest in the Xbox ecosystem going forward that I can see

  • @InJeffable
    @InJeffable 4 месяца назад +10

    The last console I purchased was my PS5 Digital Edition last year, and I was motivated by two things: PlayStation console exclusives (the Horizon games, Gran Turismo 7, the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, etc.) and the immersion-enhancing features of the DualSense controller. I strongly considered getting an Xbox Series console since I had been an Xbox guy ever since I bought the original Xbox at launch in 2001, but I was put off by the bleak outlook for Xbox-exclusive games and the disappointing showing from Halo Infinite (a Destiny 2 wannabe with a boring villain and no local co-op). I also wasn't fond of the comparative lack of innovation in their controller (the new d-pad circle thing just isn't enough).
    I would still consider buying an Xbox Series console if there's a fire sale on them that cuts the price by half or more, because I do like the idea of having one as a multimedia console -- more for my Microsoft Movies & TV library than anything else. But at their current prices, they just aren't worth it. I may as well wait for the next Xbox in 2026 (assuming the rumor is true).

But it definitely didn't hook me in the first few hours, and it was a real shame that I couldn't play local co-op with my dad. Best console launch has to be Dreamcast, not a perfect launch, but the best by far. There were so many games, moreso than any before or after it, and all of them were grand.
    Best and worst launches for each manufacturer would be:
    SEGA: Dreamcast | CD
    Microsoft: Xbox | Xbox One
    Sony: PlayStation Portable | PS2
    Nintendo: Switch | GameCube
    I still remember launch day of the PS2 where there was a single game and it sold 10:1 against its games for years. GameCube could've been so much more if Mario had been there, and Zelda Wind Waker wasn't so poorly misjudged based on its art style. Xbox started on a real high but the problem with starting at the top is that you can only go down from there, and SEGA did as much bad as they did good, especially SEGA of America.

      If we lose our competition again (It's ridge racer, riiiiiiiiiiiiidge racer!) Everybody knows what Sony will do to the rest of us.
      It's bad for everyone if competition dies.

    Here is the bird’s eye view of everything, Microsoft is returning to its roots, software. Microsoft made all of its money in software distribution. Think about it, Microsoft never made computers, but they made the software that the computers ran. The first mistake Microsoft made was getting into hardware development. Hardware development is more expensive with a lower overhead.
    Imagine if Microsoft never got into hardware development, imagine if they had struck a deal with Sony to provide Sony with Halo making Sony the dominate platform of choice, Microsoft could have made it a timed exclusive then sold more copies to Nintendo. Focusing on software and software development is the right move if Microsoft want to stay relevant.
    What Microsoft needs is other companies to develop the hardware on which their software runs, much like the Asus Rog Ally/Valves Steam Deck. While Microsoft pulling out of the hardware business is going to hurt console games (less competition means less innovation and consumer choice, and which inevitably leads to higher prices).
    At the very least the beloved franchises will “survive” it’s just the hardware on which it is played that will change.

      Exactly and he's now still gonna make the stream as if it's true when it's been backtracked like you said from Jez lol this guy really wants xbox out of the market cause of total psfanboyizem when meanwhile if anything that hurts the business and sony starts to become more complacent which we've seen them do before. And if anything routing for xbox to fail then little do u know if Microsoft goes the way reforge wants then xbox still becomes number one then not excluding any platform while Sony still tries to not just be everywhere where you'll make the most money. Everyone at some point will convert to this way because as these games take more and more to make just like sonys games, that will also be unsustainable as well, u make the most money by being everywhere, this is common sense

    Microsoft/Xbox is looking at the pc gaming market and looking to lean that way. The next Xbox will be more of a home pc which is Microsoft’s wheelhouse.
