Probably the only one who speaks English here but I just wanted to say that this is oddly satisfying to watch, even though I can't understand 90% of what he's saying.

@@apophisca2163 i think you just need to stop rolling the r, like in gRRass, but more like a soft, but crisp noise, a very quick D sound. after a while, it should be okay. you can try with grass, and then move on to other words that roll RR. soon enough, it’s easy to ra ri ru re ro :)

It isn't about learning Japanese, it's about writing it. So they'd probably assume you already know how to speak that language.

I don't understand japanese, there's no english sub on the video but I understood almost everything he taught. He did it so really well that language barrier doesn't seem to exist at all and I love that! In just a few minutes he caught my whole attention. 💖💖

The whole lesson has been filmed in one take and each letter is perfect on the first try. You may not notice it at first, but it's quite impressive when you think about it. The immense amount of practice this man put into each shape and stroke is mind-blowing.
I mean, he _is_ a calligrapher. You don't become one without dedication and outstanding passion for writing.

@@kionsuhana.1128 i think korean i relatively easy to study as long as u put ur heart into it. i think it was about 6 months since i my most recent korean self study and tbvh idt i have forgotten that much things. reading is still abit challenging but isok, you get there!! japanese seems pretty fun too. im a chinese @ blood and if i were to compare the difficulty level of these three languages it wld be 1. chinese 2. japanese 3. korean

This is easily one of the most satisfying videos I've watched. His handwriting is PERFECT... like eerily so.. And for those who just blaze through writing japanese and become sloppy, this video is actually very educational and refreshes my brain to how things should be written.

I watch this video every single morning and practice my letters. It helps my Japanese immersion and language listening. It helps strengthen my hira. And makes my letters so much more pretty. I enjoy writing in Japanese more now.
I've been watching this video for the past few days as an asmr and man, it's sure helping me to learn and memorize all those hiraganas. Four days and already can write and read the vowels and the K group. Going to the S group right now. This video is such a heavenly work.
for the G group, all you do is add a small altered quotation mark to the top right side of the K group
example: いき が (iki ga) which is part of the japanese word for "I can't breathe"
I found the notations for "fu" to be very enlightening. I never realized the continuous motion of the character until you connected them with the red marks. The geek in me likes these little nuggets of information.

Everybody talking about how they can't understand what he's saying when there's literally subtitles with direct English translations smh.
I mean I know not everyone uses subtitles but whenever you don't understand a different language on RUclips, unless subtitles are disabled, it's always there!
Not only that, it was specifically translated to english in the subtitles, it wasn't just auto-generated or translated.

I know that the first character is “a” (pronounced “ah”) but that’s it. Oh and when he says “sukoshi kaavu” it means “slight curve” This is interesting to watch!! Thanks!
Margaret Landry the first five are a i u e o and yes “a” is pronounced “ah”. “i” is pronounced “ee”. “U” is pronounced “ooh”. “E” is pronounced “eh”. “O”is pronounced “oh”
This is how it works for all of Japanese. There are probably a couple exceptions but I am not that far into the language to know. But if you read something it is almost always pronounced the same way for all vowels.
if it helps, he covers hiragana in alphabetical order. So yes it starts with A, and moves to I, U, E, and O (this is the vowel order in Japanese). After the set of vowels without consonants, he moves on to Ka, Ki, Ku, Ke, and Ko. And so on, the alphabetical order is A-Ka-Sa-Ta-Na-Ha-Ma-Ya-Ra-Wa-n.
If you can memorize the order of vowels, and the order of consonants (keeping in mind consonant vowel pairs are always together and progress in the same vowel order, so basically once you hit "sa" you'll move through "shi" "su" "se" "so" before moving onto "ta" and so on) you'll basically have memorized the alphabetical order of phonetic Japanese.
It's a bit goofy, but in memorizing the alphabet at first, I broke it up into segments, so I knew free vowels were first. Next was "ka-sa-ta-na" which I memorized by thinking of "KUSAnagi the KATANA" or KUSATANA = ka sa ta na. Then "ha-ma-ya-ra" I think of the word haramaki (waist sash) and imagine someone just misspelled it. And then in terms of Wa and -n I just think of the fact that Wa and Wo are fairly infrequently used, so much so that their other vowels have been essentially deprecated so it makes sense they'd be last in line. And -n always ends words, so it also makes sense that it would be the last character in the alphabet as well.
hopefully that helps anyone trying to learn Hiragana.

@@laynstevens And that's why knowing a Romance language can help with Japanese pronunciation. Our vowels and the sort are pronounced the same in Portuguese if that makes sense. Same with Spanish and Italian.

It's so weird but makes so much sense that so many of the characters have connected parts on a computer, like き, but look different. It explains the curves. I see the parallels to calligraphy in the Latin alphabet I'm used to. Moving your hand in loops, continuing a motion without making a line so the next stroke is balanced, is something that's improved my English cursive. Now it's time to apply that to Hiragana!
This made me want to go practice my Hiragana lol this video was extremely satisfying and actually really helpful! I've been learning Japanese online and the first thing I started to learn (before even learning any phrases or anything), was all of the Hiragana characters. The thing that sucks from learning on apps and websites is that a lot of the times they don't actually show you how to write the characters, they just show you what it looks like. ありがとございます！

I just pretend all my characters are cursive and very stylized. Sometimes nobody can read them but that's not my problem.

This video has been extremely helpful to me. This past month I’ve had to gradually fill practice sheets for my class, and even though I already knew how to read and write hiragana, there were a lot of details that I didn’t know of. Whether it was the spacing, the stroke order or the type of ending to the strokes. Now I’m confident that I know the characters up to the littlest detail and won’t make any mistakes :)

*Key tip #2:* Practice, practice, practice. Even if it seems redundant, keep doing repeats until you can do things (like writing hiragana here) consistently and unconsciously. I've dedicated dozens of notebook pages for all the kana until I could write them A) with a consistent shape, B) with pleasant curves and proportions, and C) without even thinking.

Oh my gosh this helps a lot. I suck at writing Hiragana (especially あ,え,そ) and I don’t know how to memorise how to write them without seeing them.
