Percy, Annabeth, and Grover must resist the alluring draw of a casino that feels outside of time.
Demigod Percy Jackson leads a quest across America to prevent a war among the Olympian gods.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is an American fantasy television series created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg for Disney+, based on the book series of the same name by Riordan.[1] Walker Scobell stars as Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri.
Development on the series began by May 2020, following a pitch by Riordan to Disney Branded Television. Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were announced as showrunners in July 2021, with James Bobin hired to direct the first episode in October. Scobell was cast in the lead role in January 2022, with Jeffries and Simhadri joining the cast in May. By September, Anders Engström and Jet Wilkinson were also set to direct multiple episodes of the series. Filming began in June 2022 in Vancouver, British Columbia, and concluded in February 2023, with additional cast members revealed throughout 2022 and 2023.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians premiered on December 19, 2023, on Disney+, with the first season consisting of eight episodes. The series received positive reviews from critics, who largely praised its faithfulness to the source material, the worldbuilding and the performances of the cast, with many deeming it better than the 2010-2013 film series.
Walker Scobell as Perseus "Percy" Jackson, a young demigod and son of Poseidon[3]
Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena who has been training at Camp Half-Blood for five years[4]
Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Percy's best friend and a satyr disguised through magic as a 12-year-old boy[4]

Grover caring more about the animals XD The cast was probably having fun shooting that driving scene because I was laughing watching that whole thing play out

Percy/Walker looked so stressed and his face was quite reddened that I'm wondering how much of that was real 😂

Lin-Manuel Miranda gave a lot more emotional weight to Hermes than I was expecting. I thought they would take a comedic approach like in the movies, but I loved the more serious route they chose for his character. His conversation with Percy and Annabeth is probably one of my favorite scenes so far. Walker especially did an amazing job acting opposite him

I just realized, they have the lotus trees in the entrance, covered in fairy lights
Percy said they pump the flower essence in the air
The trees are probably contributing to that, if not the reason for it. Maybe the lotus flower scent and pollen can also cause the memory loss?
Or I'm just spitting nonsense and the lotus eaters just mist a perfume from the flowers through the casino

it’s interesting i was watching with my dad and he said that they do pump air into casinos, a bit too over oxygenate and create a slight high feeling and keep people wanting to gamble. idk if that’s an urban legend or fact but it’s a fun thing to think about anyways and makes them saying it’s in the air fit well

They do loose track and forget in the book but time does move much faster in the casino also. They spend like half a day or something there in the book (they get a room to sleep) and they loose 3 days or something.
That is how Nico and Bianca are alive as Hades didn’t sire children after WWII. The casino kept them young.

    Spoiler filled response:
Love your videos! As for the 4 pearl thing it threw me off at first. But if you watch the trailer for next episode it sounds like they will still end up with only 3. So maybe they lose one otw to Hades.
As for Grover staying behind, that's from the movie. In the book I think he offers, but Percy leaves his mom behind this "failing to save what matters most in the end "
Thanks for the excellent reaction videos as always :)

Yeah, I think the change of the 4 pearls is to compliment the change of him already knowing his mom is alive because only giving him 3 on purpose would seem a little fucked up

What I am wondering is how they are going to make the “prophecy come true.” if he is able to rescue mom at first try in the show.
Though this does make Poseidon look better.

@@KAST96 "and you shall fail to save what matters most, in the end" was never about the underworld.
Percy fails to save Sally from Gabe, because he lets her save herself.

@@KAST96 judging by the preview, it will probably stay the same, so I'm thinking they're probably just gonna loose one on their way to the underworld

At 12:30 you can hear, Nico called Bianca... and they were tease in 6:09 mark of the episode, where there's a girl that fits Bianca di Angelo description in the book and the boy 2 chairs next to her is wearing a black shirt probably with the skull on it.. But hey, I maybe wrong but that is a strong theory.. hehehehehe.. Rick said that nothing happens by accident and when you see the 6:09 mark, the shot was focused on the girl that fits Bianca's description.. See for yourself hehehehe..

Nico isn't our little gothball until.... well, the end of the 3rd book tho. It's hard to remember that now but he used to be a really lively kid, I doubt he'd have the skull shirt. But I'm loving how desperate everyoen is to see or hear of the diAngelos, they're just so iconic

the moment when Percy and Annabeth walk up to Grover playing vr, right? Cause I could hear it quite clearly there. You can also see a girl playing vr _pulling back and releasing like a bow and arrow_ dunno if that's supposed to be an Easter egg but I think it could be, cause that would explain why Nico's voice seems close

The four pearls are interesting to me. Because yes, in the books there were only three. I'll elaborate more on that under the "read more" for spoilers' sake. But thinking about it, it fits way better with Poseidon's characterization to give Percy four. He loved Sally, and I can't imagine him not wanting to save her. Heck, in the book Sally said he offered to build her a palace under the sea. So providing a pearl for each of them makes sense. I'm sure book!Poseidon had his reasons, but I can't deny that four pearls makes sense for him.
Now for the spoilers: Yes both the book and movie had three pearls, but they deviated in how they were used. It was only the movie that Grover stayed behind in. In the book, the questers came under siege from Hades' guards and had to use them before finding a way to rescue Sally. After Percy cleared his name, Hades no longer needed her as a bargaining chip and released Sally back into the land of the living on his own accord. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the extra pearl, and how the story changes because of it.

Oh yea, it was Thursday by the time they finished talking to Hermes, but they stayed longer after that to go find Grover, which must've pushed them past the solstice. It's funny that you mention the pacing at the casino, cause while you're right -- Percy and Annabeth did also get lost in the books -- there was also a lot less content that happened in the casino originally. They basically walked in, got trapped for a while, and then Percy talked to a guy from the 70s and realized what was going on, so he grabbed his friends and left. So although only Grover got stuck in this version, there's actually a lot more that happened at the casino what with Hermes and Augustus and trying to escape with the car. Give and take, I suppose.

Grover doesn't stay behind in the book; Percy leaves his mother behind. One of the most maddening things about that horrible movie was how they perverted the character not just of Grover, but of Persephone (who never should have been there in the first place - not in the summer!!). Making her randy over a saytr was ridiculous. Anyway, it appears they're upping both the big picture stakes (missing the deadline) and the small picture ones (poor Hermes), which IMO is making the series much more interesting. Can't wait until next week!

yeaaaaah i think it made sense for them to realize aunts ems was medusas and was very interesting with how they rewrote her but here it just feels like a loss of stakes . we can’t just have them know every single story from the mythology and circumvent every trap…i get that they actually did get trapped for days but it loses a bit of umph. also medusa is one of the most well known greek monsters whereas the lotus eaters are like one tiny fraction of the entire odyssey, so it really would have made sense for them to not realize the casino was connected

In the books they stumble upon lotus casino accidentally while in the series Ares sent them there intentionally, so ofc they r aware of their surroundings and knew rightaway where they were going into. Annabeth is the strongest warrior at camp as it was mentioned, she trained for her first quest for so long and waited for this. Honestly, in this scenario, it just would've been stupid if they weren't aware of the situation since the myht surrounding the lotus flower is also one of the well known ones. And we saw how Grover forgot for a moment bc of the whole lotus thing and we saw them actually being caught off guard just bc they thought that as long as they r not gonna eat any lotus flowers they r gonne be safe which as we saw wasn't the case. And the way they also emphasized the part where percy says wouldn't it be unprofessional if they hang out there for a bit even tho they r on a serious quest. The writers know what they r doing honestly. My only complaint is that disney should give them more runtime for s2
