    Thanks for checking out BAND-MAID.
    They have certainly created their own distinct sound that is evident in all their song these days, but I would never say they are a one trick pony. There is plenty of variety in their work, and they often mix genres within the same song. Take the song 'RINNE' for instance - thrash, punk, jazz, pop all perfectly meshed together. Maybe you want an acoustic song? Try 'Sayonakidori' with Miku on lead vocals. How about 70's style blues rock? Ok, go with 'Manner'. Better yet, do the 2 for 1 combo of 'Manners & 'Black Hole'.
    The originator of the whole "maids who play cool music" was band founder, rhythm guitarist, lyricist, lead and backing vocalist, PR guru, Miku Kobato. She was working in a maid cafe when she came up with the idea. She went to her management company and sold them on the concept. They told her to put a band together. She found Kanami (lead guitarist, composer) online and convinced her to join. Kanami knew Akane (drummer) from a project they'd worked on. Akane knew bassist MISA from attending the Tokyo School of Music together. Now they a band, except... Miku doesn't have a "strong" enough voice for the rock music they want to play. So, in comes Saiki to round out vocals. The only thing left is for Miku to learn how to play guitar. She eventually learns so well that she now has a signature custom model guitar produced by Zemaitis Japan.
    Quick side note - the volume on this video is suuuuper low. I had to crank everything up 100% to even hear it. And it was still very quiet.

      Yeah, I knew many wouldn't agree with me(Doppler) on my view of their music, which is fine. It is just a personal feeling with the band for me. We appreciate the info about how the whole maid idea came along, it wad definitely a smart move on their part as it helps them stand out and be memorable. As for the sound it's been and on and off issue with our videos, Pincushion edits them and turns the volume down while he edits them and sometimes forgets to turn it back up before posting, unfortunately. He may fix it, he has had to before. Thanks for the reply.

    Thank you for the reaction. The "lack of variety in their sound" comment is confusing, however, because it's precisely this - the variety and diversity in their sound - that for me sets them most noticeably apart from their peers in the genre. I've been through their entire catalog numerous times tho, and I think your opinion on this point may change if you delve deeper into their music. (Here's an example: go listen to the The Dragon Cries, Rinne, Bubble and Page off their Conqueror album - how many albums can you think of that have this sort of variety in sound?)

    As someone who never thought I would be even the slightest bit interested in an all female Japanese rock band I assure you they have a variety of sounds throughout their songs. I(Doppler) love metal and rock music. While Band-Maid are insanely talented musicians, they don't do enough musically to stand out from other rock bands for me personally. Though, as I said in the video, I'd still go see then live if given the chance because of the whole esthetic they have going on.

    . Some of Band-Maid are the anime characters from this music video. It was done this way on purpose to promote the song. All the Maids love anime and this was the perfect vehicle for the song. Some of us Maidiacs were hoping there would be a Band-Maid anime series. Unfortunately, that was not in the plans. Oh well! It's still one hell of a song.

    They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive (10 year 130+ song) back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog mayhem to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. You haven't heard nothing!

      I'm just basing it off what I've heard, maybe 20 songs max, and the majority have sounded similar. Never said they don't occasionally mix it up, but in my experience of what I've heard is they have a sound they stick with, which isn't a bad thing, just for my personal taste it doesn't do enough for me. consistently.

    Thank you for the honest opinion. As for the video, the anime was designed for them, by the anime division of Pony Canyon, the label they are currently signed to. If you watched some of their MV's in the past, each of the opening scenes of each member is in a previous MV. Little easter eggs throughout the video. Just curious, you mentioned you listened to them in the past, how long ago did you listen them? Just trying to get a feel of where you were and what to possibly suggest which may be different. Taking a stab in the dark as "Unleash!!!!!" appears new to you. Try "From Now On" OMV. Or "Hate?" OLV from the 10th Anniversary Tour Finale at Yokohama Arena. These two are from the "Unleash" EP they released. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘

    The UNLEASH video is about the pandemic scuttling BAND-MAID’s campaign for World Domination, which was to include a high-profile “one-man” concert at Budokan. The band launched a new campaign, using the Internet to stay in touch with their fans and to win new ones, posting on RUclips songs from concert films, supporting the work of reaction channels, creating special video content for their fan club, and producing several online concerts. In the last two years they were finally able to perform live again, and have been very busy touring, including three visits to the U.S.

      Can't name exact songs, but for example, a year or two ago, I watched a video of a full concert(couldn't tell you which one anymore) of theirs just to see what all the fuss was about and to me 80% of the songs roughly sounded the same, fell within same genres and styles. There were a couple of songs that deviated, but most followed the same kind of formula, and with my musical tastes, I found myself wondering off. Doesn't mean they are bad, just not something I would listen to consistently. As I said to another person who commented, what one person views as variety may not be as much to someone else. Doesn't make either wrong, just personal preferences.

    That all BAND-MAID songs sound the same is the funniest joke I've ever heard in my life, hahahaha. Rather surprised at comment at assertion Band-Maid was a one trick pony and had similar songs. Perhaps songs recommended to you were from fans with similar tastes. Anemone, acoustic version of Sayanakidori are quite different. Don’t Let me down has a Motor Head Sound! Secret My lips, Afterlife, Non fiction Days, Matchless Gum, Take me higher, Puzzle, Turn me on, quite varied. Several punk style songs appear on New beginning and Brand New Maid albums. Blooming , Rinne from conqueror quite different . This Band has about 140 songs to choose from of many different genres! Suggest going off the standard trail of recommendations. Miku, the band founder, rhythm guitar, second vocals and lyricist came up with the idea of combining the maid theme with rock. As to there not being much variety in their music, I strongly disagree. One of the main reasons I love Band Maid is that there is so much variety in their music. Perhaps you've only had a limited exposure to them so far. Try this sequence of songs to give you an idea, About Us (live), Bestie, Start Over, Wonderland (live), Daydreaming, Endless Story (live), Choose Me, Dice, Domination (live), Manners / Black Hole (live), Bubble, Blooming, Puzzle (live), Hate? (live), Shambles, Rinne. And then there are instrumentals such as Onset (live) and From Now On or Gion Cho by their alter ego Band Maiko and finally acoustic arrangements of Sayonakidori, Catharsis, Puzzle and Anemone. I'm sure others could suggest plenty of others rather than those I've chosen.

    • @heavymetaltruckers
      @heavymetaltruckers  2 месяца назад

      For me, when you compare Band-Maid to a lot of these other rock and metal bands in Japan, musically, they don't have as much variety. Doesn't make them bad. They are a great band, and they know what works for them, and they do it well. That and what one person may view as variety in sound may not be to another. Doesn't make either one wrong. Just personal preference, and I can definitely see why so many love them. Definitely appreciate the info on them, always love learning more about different groups.
