This is a very interesting and well thought-out theory. Personally, I am still a firm believer that the opposite occurs: the devil gains abilities due to the perception of their attribute. The fire devil can transform people's appearance and give them power much like a regular fire can transform normal wood or homes into something more powerful/dangerous. The dark devil has a sword in addition to its initial powers because people fear being stabbed in the dark.
I like this idea, and it probably was one of my top alternative theories! Recently I’ve changed my mind to disagree with this video since new information has come out. I explain my change of thought in this video (sorry for the shot quality it was my first live action):

And this theory makes sense, specially after the lastest chapter drop with the "Fire Devil" having completely different powers of what a "Fire" devil should have.

Okay so if I understand this theory right, it piggy backs on the idea of abstract concepts. I like that a lot, given the fire devil seemingly both burns but also gets stronger the more contracts it makes. Kinda like lighting small fires until it becomes a large forest fire and spirals out.
Conceptually speaking, Chainsaws were originally meant to help in child birth. An act that brings new humans into this world. Really makes ya think, how could such an ability related to birth be existence erasure on screen.
