  • How to Perform Median Nerve Flossing and Tensioning
Have you ever experienced tingling or numbness in your hand, particularly in the thumb, index, and middle fingers? If so, you might be familiar with the symptoms of median nerve compression. This condition occurs when the median nerve becomes compressed or irritated.
When the median becomes compressed, symptoms can arise, such as numbness, tingling, weakness, or pain in the affected fingers and hand. One common condition associated with median nerve compression is carpal tunnel syndrome, which occurs when the median nerve is compressed as it passes through the narrow carpal tunnel in the wrist.
In this video, Erik Dalton demonstrates a neurodynamic technique used by osteopaths and manual therapists. It’s called nerve flossing or nerve gliding and is done to help mobilize the median nerve. He also demonstrates another technique called nerve tensioning, which is essentially a stretch for the nerve.
✅ The technique in this video is just part of a broader system of Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques that is used by massage therapists around the world. You can find out more about this unique approach at Erik Dalton’s website: erikdalton.com

I don't see the difference between stretching and strengthening. Can you help me see the difference in the techniques? I understand the theory.

It's not stretching and strengthening. In short, nerve flossing is a way to mobilize the nerve by pulling it back and forth through the associated tissues, like flossing your teeth. Nerve tensioning stretches the nerve by pulling on both ends at the same time to improve the health of the nerve through a number of mechanisms.
