Fishing the *NEW* Alabama Gulf State Park PIER

- The Gulf Shores Alabama Gulf State Park Pier has been closed for a while. They did renovations, Hurricane Sally messed it up and broke a few pilings. The state of Alabama has done an excellent job trying to get it open for everyone. Today was the GRAND OPENING of the "NEW" Gulf State Park Pier. Obviously, there are many repairs that are going to be made, but this is a great accomplishment anyway. Fishing was great, we caught Sheepshead, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and Pompano. Whiting were also caught in the surf from the pier.

Enjoy fishing with your mom. When we lived in GulfBreeze my mother, 56 years ago ,we would fish the old bridge together and she would get so excited when she would catch a big trout or .sheepie.🐟🐟

Nice haul! I just love your sweet, selfless heart! We were in GS for the first half of Sally. Headed home when the flooding started to get bad. Hopefully that gorgeous pier will be finished when we come back. That sunrise is breathtaking! Love the new ride!! Pretty cool getting recognized!

I'm so jealous right now....we came down for vacation last year only to find out they had the pier closed for the initial renovation!🤬 I was gonna try to take a long weekend and come back in the fall, but Sally threw a huge wrench in that for everyone. 😢

Giovanni P: It really is great. Best part about it.....it's in Alabama. Ya'll need to come on down. If you have never been, then you are in for a treat. Our beaches sand is so pearly white you need sunglasses. The beaches are not full game parks, nor commercialized (in the bad sense). Awesome high rise condos and hotels. Great food. Our coast is for family enjoyment. And yes.....Alabama really is incredibly friendly.....just as most of the South is.

Check out sheepshead “swing jigs”, if you’ve never used them, you will love them. Made by several companies. Reel habit jigs brand is what I used to use

The things I like about piers are the convenience, it gets you out in the water, structure and fish variety. But I really hate that its so high and it takes away the fun and connecting with the sea.

Hey Bama, nice rod/reel, nice catch, nice pier. You know, bro, when I used to fish bridges, and piers.. I would tie a loop in a little piece of clothesline rope, slip it over my wrist, and tie it off to my reel, just to prevent me, from dropping my rod/reel.. or having it snatched from my grip, by some big fish! You can also make a leash for your rod, with some mono, etc., and tie it off to your belt, or the pier, bro. I’’d hate to see you lose your gear, B. (I bet if you dove along that pier, you would find dozens of other hapless peoples set ups, littering the bottom, bro.
Yo Bama.. I’ll tell you a little known secret! If you ever get down to, North Miami, there’s a nice pier right at, Haulover Inlet. In the 1970’s, the pier was adding to the structure, in the water around the pier, to increase fishing. My Buddy was the professional diver, they hired to do the wet work. While he was there, he took about fifty old tires, cut several squares out of the treads, then cut completely thru the tire so they could be twisted and fit around the the vertical pier legs. He put several tires on each vertical post, and left them on, out in the water. The many little squares he cut in the tires, became a little known lobster hot spot. You ever get down there, Bama. Put on a mask, and take a look! ☮️
